Luke and Julie, you are both perfect for Mapperton. With each of you loving history, preservation and the environment, Mapperton couldn't be in better hands. Luke's parents must be both relieved and pleased that Mapperton will continue to advance into the future with you two using the technology, research and science of today to save the historic builds of Mapperton while working to restore the land to a more natural state. Truly a wonderful and worthy endeavor.
Love you guys, Julie, it is so refreshing to find an American who not only loves her own country but loves and respects ours, you and Luke are the future of the aristocrats in the UK
My grandmother, Nora, was an Irish immigrant in America, who worked as a household maid in Chicago. The lady she worked for was very good friends with Kate Buckingham. She met her a few times. We knew the story about Buckingham fountain, and found it very interesting. I still live in the Chicago suburbs and see the fountain once in awhile. Julie, what a wonderful story and connection! I can't wait to hear more.
I can't help to remember the comedic teams like Stiller & Meara, George & Gracie or Ozzie & Harriet when watching you both in lovely banter. It is quite refreshing along with lots of giggles. Luke is definitely the example of witty/dry British humour and Julie the more serious but sweet responses. I also loved the music you chose for removing the garland which was perfect for the ending of the un-decorating party. Bravo!
My gosh! You two really crack me up! I’m so glad we got to witness one of Julie’s “piles”. 😂 If things are to be done right Julie, you just have to do it yourself. 😁Wellie washer? I think I’ve seen it all now. 😂 Wonderful vid!
I have to say, you and your husband make me smile. I love seeing how you both are working so hard to preserve such a beautiful home. Also, your decorations were beautiful.
Julie, I just love the information you found about Kate Buckingham and the fountain in Chicago! So exciting! One of my best friends lives in Chicago, and having visited her there, I found your information so interesting. Also, I hope once you finish your dissertation, that you make it available for us to read. Keep making these great videos about the estate. I really enjoy them. 🙂❤
Hope you're feeling better Julie ~ you look amazing! Loving the beaver reintroduction project in Mapperton's stunningly beautiful woodland (I wonder why they disappeared from the UK countryside in the first place?). It's as if Alberta's diaries/papers/photos were biding their time...waiting to be discovered, curated and researched. It's heart-warming what you are doing, and that something of Alberta's legacy will survive, to feature in your dissertation.
@Joanna (London) I was wondering about why the beavers can't be in the wild in the UK, and then it dawned on me that most likely that rule was installed as a way to protect trees. Beavers are adorable creatures, and sooo hardworking, but golly, can they ever destroy a woods! They are so industrious that they cut down huge swaths of woods. My dad is an Erosion Control Scientist, and beavers were an area of study because their removal of trees can cause riverbanks to erode to the point that the entire river path changes. It's a delicate balance like always, though, because without beavers to thin them out, too many trees can choke each other out for sunlight. Anyway, I wondered if that's the reason they disappeared: too many frustrated farmers eliminated them for destroying the woods and changing the water paths? Another thought was that when the Beaver Hat Craze swept the UK and the continent, maybe that's what did them in. I know that at some point the UK had to turn to the US Colonies to fuel the Beaver Hat Rage, and nearly caused the US and Canada's beavers to be endangered, so I assume that happened because the UK had gone through all their beavers-? Just theories, but now, like you, I'm rather invested in the answer! I hope the Maperton Beavers are in a controlled environment so they don't completely destroy the woods, but I'm positive all the advising experts have thought through all angles. And I have to admit I'm really looking forward to seeing the busy little (well, often quite large) guys around Maperton! 🦫❤️
She had covid for crying out loud…. By the time you finished complaining… it could have been done. You are going to try and enclose the beavers…. Good luck. Those babies are sneaky.
I absolutely LOVE your decorated staircase! I would have so much fun decorating there! So beautiful ❤️! You and I are just alike in our decorating! My parents always said I put too much out also! The beavers are amazing 😍! The sound of the stream is beautiful ❤️!
I absolutely love your videos! They are so interesting and it’s like traveling in the comfort of your home. During this trying time it is so nice to have a something to take our minds off all the bad going on! Your estate is beautiful , thank you for sharing it with all of us. And I enjoy the banter between both Julie and Luke! I have learned so much about England from your videos ! I probably will never get to travel there from Michigan in the USA but this is almost as fun as I imagine it could be! Again thank you! 🥰
The producing done by Steven and Claire is fantastic. They way they now integrate different stories under one video. It makes it so much more entertaining. Great job by all!
Love, love, all You and Luke are doing. I live on the west side of INDIANAPOLIS called Eagle Creek. Of course, I think the Chicago connection is fascinating. Thanks to all of you. You and Luke are doing Noble work. Until next time I send you love and prayers. Miss Peggy Kate
Julie, my family and I live at the North end of Grant Park in a highrise - We literally walk by Buckingham fountain every day. When we pass it by, I will smile and think of your connection (what a small world)!
It is so incredibly fascinating to see history and these connections unfold out of an old manner closet than already behind glass somewhere in a museum. Love it so much! Keep sharing!
It’s always a little sad when Christmas is over , I just love the holiday season . This year we had half the family sick with Covid , it all happened at the gingerbread house party . All the Moms & several toddlers were also sick so sadly we were all separate but we will be together next year .🙏🏼
This is such a great variety of updates! Sorry you had CoVid over Christmas. It is a difficult time to be sick! I love that you are working on your Masters in Country House Studies! It looks like you can do a PhD as well... Go for it, Dr. Julie!
You have such lovely woods over there; I’d give anything to have a wander round. In Florida where I’ve lived my entire life, they’re full of vines, scrubby palms, and tree spiders galore. You can’t go for a nice walk because you’re impeded by all of that. So your woods look like heaven to me. 😍
Glad you got over it quickly!! Undecoratng reminds me of the Un-Birthday party in Alice in Wonderland. Looking forward to seeing what the beavers will do!! Thank you for another fun and interesting episode!! Take care 🤗
An undecorating party? Right up there with make the bed party and clean the pantry party! Actually, Julie’s decorations are just beautiful and how lovely that the materials were gathered from the estate. The beaver project is fascinating, and who doesn’t love going through the family archives. Always interesting to see what you are all up to. 🌺
I love the way you and Luke interact. You give out an extremely young vibe (not an insult). It does make me wonder though if you're this way in your normal family life and if so, did either of your sons ever wish you'd act your age and not theirs? (Again, not an insult, I find it endearing)
I love the fact that as a couple, you project how real couples disagree, argue or embarrass each-other. The mysterious cloud over the aristocracy as a whole is lifted in your videos and that is what I like about you both.
Very sorry to hear you had Covid over the holidays Julie - but hopefully you are fully on the mend now. I work in museum/private collections care and research and I find your exploration of the Mapperton archives absolutely fascinating! I cannot wait to hear more about your dissertation and what sort of questions you want to consider answering. I feel like one of the most unknown things in America in 2022, is that of how important it was (or the overall impact) that American heiresses used their inheritance to save so many British stately homes. Even to the point that introductions were made between eligible bachelors and bachelorettes in the hopes that her money could help the family estate in England! Wishing you so much luck and energy for your dissertation! 👏🏻👏🏻
I love how old letters can teach us so much. Glad you are feeling better Julie. Perhaps, what was the impact Alberta made on Mapperton could be a great question for your dissertation. 🥰
Luke said to tell you how much I love your decorations. 😁 I really do think they're lovely, and I'm so sorry you had COVID and no one could appreciate them!
I love the idea of an "Un-Decorating Party". The staircase looks beautiful. I've never seen a boot cleaner. I enjoyed Luke telling us the plans for the property.Alberta must have been a very interesting lady.I look forward to learning more about her.The connection to "Buckingham Fountain" is remarkable. Love from Vermont
I’m so glad you’re better, Julie! It doesn’t matter that no one saw your beautiful decorations. You did it for YOU because Christmas gladdens the heart! and all your viewers did get to see how lovely that staircase looked. Believe it or not, I don’t even mind undecorating because it feels fresh and welcoming to the new year when you’re done. I’m so looking forward to 2022 adventures!
I would be more then happy to help you, Julie. Your house always looks fabulous!! Now, fight nice you two. Your so entertaining & much love to you both! I’m glad your feeling better now , Julie. I’ve had COVID twice & it’s no fun!love your decorations. You have to spray them with water so they don’t get to dry. I’d help you if you let me. The pomegranates or are now dried, Julie. No picking on Julie, now!!
I just discovered this series a few days ago and have been totally captivated by it all. Thank you for letting us into your home and into your lives. Also, the decorations are lovely.
You are such a cute couple and apparently vie le difference as the French say really works! I'm a widow now, but married into a weird dysfunctional family, but my hubby of many years had a great sense of humor and we also had many laughs together over many scenarios. You two happily remind me of those wonderful years!
I have so enjoyed y'all as a couple and a wonderful resource for juicy British history! But now I know Julie that you and I are kindred spirits because I too was laying out garland on Christmas Eve much to my husband's chagrin. "Leave it alone", he said. "We missed anyone besides us getting to see it" But no, I was in a certain tizzy to put it up and not make it one of those "things" I once again "Intended" to do. And I loved it just as I loved what you did to the stair railing....beautiful and perfect. And, just like you I have put Mapperton on as I......take down decorations.....by myself. Ah, well. At least I am in good company. God bless you and your new year!
I got chilled when you mentioned in the letter / the clipping from 1927 and realize what a rich history your house has. An American lady of the house and her American cousin. The exchange about the fountain, a landmark in America and there you are, am American lady 95 years on leaving you own mark on Mapperton. Chills. We are living history.
Julie, I truly appreciate your hard work! We do something similar here and the "fun" is taking it down when it is, um, dead! We use that spray florists use for greenery to keep it looking green although it was dry. Great stuff. At least YOU got to enjoy the decorations!
Excuse me Viscount Luke but I love that pile! Makes me feel at home . xxxx But seriously, so sad to hear that you had covid over Christmas but so pleased to see you back here doing what you love doing and what we love to see too. Thank you for all you do Luke and Julie. May the year be ever so exciting and full of accomplishments. Take care always. xx
Everyone in family, * Except for the Earl and his wife, of course, they are the senior members of family* takes place in the un-decorating party and then you can get it done quicker "Many hands make light work" . Refreshments would be served when all is finished! Viscount Luke, you are right about the Beavers and how they can work to build up your steam of water! My grandparents owned a whole road in the country of a small village in America, with the whole family living on it, in our own homes, and they had two large bodies of water and one was just a creek, but when the beavers did their work the water was very, very high! As children * My five female cousins and I but, my brother was a bit young for many years and could not join us* But we would often play in the water. But it was not over our heads. It would be lovely to have the bodies of water built up. So interesting to learn the 'history of the family'! Thank you so much for taking the time to share all of this! Love it when you have time to add this to the vlogs.
Thank you for the lovely video, always fun to learn a little history and see your future plans for the Estate. The idea of a Beaver enclosure is lovely but I do think I would definitely discourage contact with the water around them; Giardiasis is a common cause of waterborne disease in humans and often called "beaver fever" after an outbreak in which hikers at Banff National Park became ill from drinking stream water contaminated with Giardia from Beavers.
I love your channel(s)! My heritage is English and Scottish and I lived in and was brought up to appreciate historic homes, furniture, art work, etc. I appreciate everything you are telling us about this history and so interesting that both you and Alberta from Chicago! So interesting as well with Luke showing and explaining the beaver project. The decorations on the staircase are lovely and so wonderful how you kept saying from the Estate,(except the "plasticized" haha pomegranates)! I'm sorry you had Covid and hope that's well behind you now.❤️
Great job Julie! ;) Actually, I leave a lot of woodland like Christmas decorations throughout the winter. I'm glad to see you guys do what all of us do but in a larger historical house! I can see he's the 'supervisor. ' lol
I did not make the connection until now when you mentioned Buckingham Fountain, but it sounds like Alberta was related to Rosalie Buckingham who married Harry Selfridge (founder of Selfridges Dept. Store in London on Oxford St.) I wonder if they ever met or corresponded.
I’m loving all the history surrounding Mapperton and Alberta! Just fascinating 🥰 I hope the beaver enclosure works out the way you envision. They are amazing creatures, but I know they are also incredibly destructive😢 Blessings 🙏
That place is soooo beautiful, I can’t imagine living there. I’m so sorry you had Covid at Christmas Julie🥲. Two of my grands have Covid now, they are so sick. Love you guys. I need the humor.
I really like the way Julie and Luke constantly talk over each other, and never cease teasing. A sign of a strong and truly loving relationship.
Luke and Julie, you are both perfect for Mapperton. With each of you loving history, preservation and the environment, Mapperton couldn't be in better hands. Love you guys, Julie, it is so refreshing to find an American who not only loves her own country but loves and respects ours, you and Luke are the future of the aristocrats in the UK
If you look into American women marrying into Aristocratic families. They were sort of the heroine of these high British families.
And I have not commented on this yet, but I LOOOOOVVVEEE the dynamics between you two. Thank you for this channel!
So glad you are feeling better Julie. Love when you and Luke work together on a show. You both are great together

Julie, I just love the information you found about Kate Buckingham and the fountain in Chicago! So exciting! Julie a un- decorating party should be a thing now. You have a brilliant idea here. 🎉🎄🥂
Luke, you should have helped by finishing it up for her!! No need to trip over anything if you had picked it up yourself.
Right!
Ditto from me
He is just playing with her 😂❣️
@@lorismith5369 But it was still there, untouched by the others. Even if they did not trip over it, someone could have moved it.
She had covid for crying out loud…. By the time you finished complaining… it could have been done.
You are going to try and enclose the beavers…. Good luck. Those babies are sneaky.
So sorry to hear that Julie got covid. Hope she didn't have it very rough. Happy to see you are back to your healthy self.
You guys are just great fun.❤️🙏🏻🇬🇧
Love this Buckingham Fountain connection! Have it enjoyed it during the summers!
I enjoy watching Luke talk about the beaver project.
Thanks for showing the boots cleaning. How clever to have an easy way to clean them!
Julie was my fave on “Ladies of London”. Mapperton reaffirms my first impression. What a breath of fresh air and fun! The garland was lovely.
I love your videos on the history of Alberta, the homes, archiving and it's just amazing at the treasures you're finding!
Another great video ! Julie and Luke you are so charming with their antics and cute sense of humor! 💕🤭
Beautiful woods you have and will be more so once the old fencing is gone. Such beautiful walks or hikes you cuisine do there.
I love the natural way you bring up your sponsors.
My boyfriend and I adore you both! Someone below said it perfectly; a sweet romantic comedy ❤️ we love you guys and all you two stand for!
Sorry you had COVID over Christmas, but good to see you are healthy now! The decorations look great! Mean Luke for not helping.
Naughty Luke!

Hello from America! Just discovered your channel today and am hooked on the beauty of Mapperton, history, and fun you two have together 🤍
The producing done by Steven and Claire is fantastic. They way they now integrate different stories under one video. It makes it so much more entertaining. Great job by all!
Couldn't agree more!

The garland on the stairs is just lovely, nice job Julie!
You two are so funny. The pomegranates were a wonderful touch. Good decorating!

Lovely greenery! And so nice about the beavers 🦫
You guys crack me up. So real.
I'm so sorry to hear you had Covid over Christmas! I hope you're feeling back to normal now. No lingering effects.
Such a beautiful garland. I love decorating with pomegranates.
Interesting finds. Happy beavers are being returned to estate.
As a former Chicagoan, this was a special episode. Thank you.
the garland was beautiful...i especially like how it was draped over and fed through the railings...
It’s always a little sad when Christmas is over , I just love the holiday season . This year we had half the family sick with Covid , it all happened at the gingerbread house party . All the Moms & several toddlers were also sick so sadly we were all separate but we will be together next year .🙏🏼
There were multiple mini videos in this. They all are so deserving of their own video and title. Just something to consider.
I love that you decorate using real greens foraged from the estate when you can.
Julie, glad you have recuperated from COVID. I’m sure your healthy, active lifestyle contributed!
This is such a great variety of updates! Sorry you had CoVid over Christmas. It is a difficult time to be sick! I love that you are working on your Masters in Country House Studies! It looks like you can do a PhD as well... Go for it, Dr. Julie!

' lol
Hello from Medford Massachusetts❤️
A beaver enclosure sound interesting! Can we see any of the build?
I did not make the connection until now when you mentioned Buckingham Fountain, but it sounds like Alberta was related to Rosalie Buckingham who married Harry Selfridge (founder of Selfridges Dept. Store in London on Oxford St.) I wonder if they ever met or corresponded.
I hope Julie can find out for us. Loved the Selfridges show on PBS. That would be such an interesting connection.
Very interesting to hear about Buckingham fountain for this Michigander transplanted to Chicagoland. Thank you!
I’m loving all the history surrounding Mapperton and Alberta!
Just fascinating 🥰
I hope the beaver enclosure works out the way you envision. They are amazing creatures, but I know they are also incredibly destructive😢
Blessings 🙏
That place is soooo beautiful, I can’t imagine living there. I’m so sorry you had Covid at Christmas Julie🥲. Two of my grands have Covid now, they are so sick. Love you guys. I need the humor.
Truly loved the stair rail garland !!🌲
