Before my Great Grandmother had indoor plumbing, she had an Outhouse, and when it was wintertime she kept a chamber pot in each bedroom. I was so thankful when she put in indoor plumbing! I'm 70 years old and I remember Chamber Pots well !!!
Omg. I loved this episode! Mapperton house is like an adult Disneyland. So much fun and Julie always is genuinely surprised at new things discovered in her ancestral home. Her reactions are too funny! Keep the episodes coming! You guys have too much fun!
"Are my hips over my knees." You may not have been born into the British Aristocracy but sometime you display all the bazar eccentricities that go with being a member of the British Aristocracy.
In the 1950's I visited with my friend to her Aunt's old house in our village. The lavvie was at the end of the backyard, built against a high wall behind which was a steep drop down to a brook. Early one evening I had to make a visit, there wasn't a light in & it was dark. I perched on the board as far forward as I could. It was a "tippler" toilet & I was worried about falling down it & ending up in the brook!! It was some time after when I discovered they don't work that way. Mary xx
One of the best ever videos.. Love it. I too check out all the toilets wherever I go around the world!!!! One thing a bit unsettling was not being able to flush toilet paper in Greek toilets due to small pipes not able to handle the load!! LOL
Luke’s enthusiasm to talk about the various toilets is golden! The old ones use so much water that my modern Eco-conscious mind cringes a little with each flush, but the history lover side of me is also fascinated by old toilets that still work!! This is my new favorite channel! 🥰
Hilarious and informative. Absolutely love the interaction between you two. Adore Luke's dry wit and British wit in general especially after having been fortunate to have spent 4 years in England. Can't wait to return one day and visit your manor.
Luke is a gem- always provides a laugh. And just to add - I like Daily Mail. They are the only news organization that seems to get U.S. news stories right. Congratulations on your feature with them Julie!
As an American I side with Julie and don't understand the humor ONLY until it's explained and then I laugh out loud.. just saying.. Blessings from 3 bowl manner in Texas..;)
..."no we don't have a crapper." ...."Oh that's a bummer!" Says Julie! 🤣 that was very funny! And don't worry Julie, I also didn't realise the report was a joke until your husband told us (And it's not a cultural thing as I'm not even American).
Me too...love Julie's humour (no crappers?...that's a bummer!) and her honesty and spontaneity. I am from New Zealand and this opening up of Mapperton vitually is so appealing with this candid and down to earth approach it's wonderful!! Love Julie's gorgeous personality. What a lovely family!!
I just love this channel and Julie's as well. I'm a Chicago girl and she is my fairy tale princess that I tell my daughter about. That she can do everything that Julie does in the manor. You both are very hands on with renovations. I have learned a lot from the both of u. Thank you and bless u both.
Wow the pride in Luke's heart very vivid in his words! You both lift each other up so well. What an inspirational and hard working couple! love you both! Happy HOlidays merry xmas! Hope we will get to see some of your favorite holiday recipes Julie and perhaps Luke's mom Mrs. Montagu will be able to share her recipe with Julie too. Thank you
Fascinating!... I live in Japan and here they've got something called a washlet... even the public restrooms have heated seats that wash your crack after you crap!.... I may not be a Visountess but my loo's "throne" is very warm and comfortable...
Oh, my goodness!! You two had me rolling with laughter. I have several poses that I rotate through in the morning, which takes about 15 minutes. It's meditative. Plus, my body is limber and strong. At 58, I don't have batwing triceps like so many women my age. Still, I don't think I'll ever get to the standing splits. I think that's for people who started yoga in their 20s.
Julie is very energetic. Luke, thank you for all the WC history. So interesting. Luke is so lovely a man to his wife. She deserves the praise. Look at the tree. So pretty and homey for a huge house. Merry Christmas 🎄
Julie - I’m not sure if it was your idea or someone who works for you - but just want to say, modernizing Mapperton and keeping with the times, monetizing it by making this delightful RUclips channel, was really a brilliant idea. You do a really nice job, and make stuffy british society approachable and interesting. Not to mention, taking advantage of the platform the shows you’ve been apart of have afforded you, giving you a nice audience to start, ans growing nicely with each post. Congrats doll.
Love Julie's whole vibe and energy ... an American desperate to learn as much as she can about English history. Totally relatable. Luke has great style, even with his 90s hair but totally works for him. Saw him in Ladies of London a few years back and he's aged so well!
Wonderful video! Luke's idea to have a tour through the water closets was hilarious, and SO INTERESTING! They are vintage, and valuable, and don't you ever let them be taken out for something more "modern". Luke is right... they are a treasure! Luke's wife is a treasure as well! Cheerful, helpful, and busy.... I am envious of her slim, strong self! You make a wonderful pair and I hope I can come and visit your home someday.
Aww Luke being the impressed and proud husband at the end did it for me!! “Your hips look perfectly aligned to me”…uh huh I bet they do!! Lol too cute, Love you guys!
You are both so charming! I enjoy how much you love each other! The yoga moves are astounding! Greetings from Canada and Happy Holidays to your family!!
Next year it would be so lovely to ask viewers to send to you ornaments from where they come from. You do a great job honoring those who have donated-it shows the type of good character you have.
What a hoot! From PA, USA … perfect American/English humor… slightly bi-polar but hilarious nonetheless. What a delightful couple you are. Love your vlogs and the beautiful Mapperton Manor. Merry Christmas! 🎄
My favorite part of all of this is seeing your English husband honor and respect you while slightly taking the piss at times. You are so loved and it speaks to his character (your character was never under question) 💖
I am an American and I see so much of myself in Julie. I’m quick with a question and an exaggerated reaction and I absolutely LOVE British culture (obvi…I love these video blogs). I find Brits to be so naturally cool, unflustered with the driest sense of humor. The combination of Luke and Julie is hilarious 🤣. I’m cracking up in my living room all way in North Carolina.
Many ancient privies empty directly into a moat or a pit and was used to help keep enemy armies at bay. Sometimes the cesspits would get so bogged with methane they could explode.
What a hoot of a topic- the loo. But really quite interesting to see that Mapperton has kept the old style toilets and refurbished them- so much more fitting than putting a shiny new modern toilet in. Well done Julie on the yoga pictures for the news paper. And beautiful Christmas tree.
So happy I found you . Just a lovely couple and beautiful children. Julie and Luke you are doing a wonderful job. This Manor is absolutely breathtaking. Love that Julie brings some American customs into the holidays. Merry Christmas from my family to yours.🎄🇺🇸
The friendly banter betw the two of you is hysterical!!! You know what you should do is when the two of you are debating which word is the 'right' word to use...... is put the words at the bottom of the screen in white lettering. For instance, Loo / bathroom, Hoover / vacuum, banger / sausage. That way you'll help to either educate or enlighten your audiences. If for nothing else it'll give us all a good laugh. 9:02: The pull-up or pull handle system is something that was a part of the designs for some of the Pullman Train cars in the U.S. You'll sometimes see this in the trains built before 1932.
I love the education that both of you give on various topics!!!! I had never heard about Thomas Crapper who designed the Loo! Amazing! It should be a Jeopardy question! 😆 Thank you for sharing!
With all the darkness of today's world, thank goodness for you and your husband and the bright that you bring to us across the pond. Hope I am terming this correctly. LOL The Rocket! Too much!. I learn something every video you post. Seriously this is an amazing experience and a beautiful historical home. Thank you and Merry Christmas everyone.
a Mr. Jennings that made the crystal palace for the 1851 Great exhibition. He got a metal from Prince Albert for making toilets. That firm dissolved in the 1960's. A few years ago the workers at the sewer authority got a hold of a photo of the crystal palace and some of the back story. The photo is still up at the sewer plant.
You go to the basement and there was a ghost of the first chamber pot wandering around lost!? Not knowing where to go because there not used anymore feeling left out! Lolol Julie is just amazing!
I don't know why I had not seen your vlogs before - but I am glad I found them! Thank you for sharing your 'adventures' and the interesting little details about Mapperton that make it a home. Cheers!
Been watching for awhile and now i have subscribed! one more advance toward 100k,yeah!,.my situation is opposite of Georgina's ,my grandma was an English woman,a nurse in WW2,my grandpa was a sailor stationed offshore around England, they met and married in England had one son then moved back here to Newfoundland Canada,I'm obsessed with English history, back in time mostly medieval.good luck and merry christmas🎄
Really enjoying this channel. Love seeing Julie and Luke together. Such kind, respectful, and genuine admiration of a wife from her husband. Very nice to hear those comments. Hope to visit Mapperton one day. Best regards from North Carolina.
If any would like a children's book on this subject (and equally as funny), Flush! The Scoop on Poop throughout the ages is a must have...my son loved it so I thought we had a future plumber, lol. He now wants to go to culinary school, go figure... I think there's a connection.
I love your loos! We had a Burlington Original back at Miss Ironside's School. Years ago we came across a very decorated old porcelain loo in Germany and an 18C water closet in Italy. They used to call them "necessaries" btw and some places had them early on. It's too bad that since the pipes are there, the fixture itself tends to just get replaced and the old one discarded. The Duke of Wellington liked Crockford's Club because they had the latest installations. And the Duke also persuaded Queen Victoria to have them installed at Buckingham Palace. When he was happily talking about his porcelain loo choices for Apsley House, Mrs Arbuthnot got offended so he stopped talking about it. One of the reasons the Albany was popular was because they had water closets. The word crap is actually of Middle English origin and predates its application to bodily waste. Its most likely etymological origin is a combination of two older words: the Dutch krappen (to pluck off, cut off, or separate) and the Old French crappe (siftings, waste or rejected matter, from the medieval Latin crappa). Strange coincidence though. When I was a child there was still a Crapper showroom on King's Road.
I was afraid that we might just have lost Julie down that last loo! I must say though we don’t live in a mansion, we have unparalleled luxury with plastic cushioned seats on all 3 of our potties!
'...no crappers here'. 'Well that's a bummer!' I'm dying here🤣
I'm the daughter, wife, and mother of a plumber. I found your lav tour interesting. The interaction between the two of you is quite entertaining.
Luke, your words about Julie were so kind and thoughtful.
when they were doing makeup "for a person like her it can take a long time!" he said this about Julie! Why would you say that?
British sarcastic humor.
19th century, not the 18th century, surely... You're right about Julie - you're lucky to have her energy and drive! A FINE American import!
Before my Great Grandmother had indoor plumbing, she had an Outhouse, and when it was wintertime she kept a chamber pot in each bedroom. I was so thankful when she put in indoor plumbing! I'm 70 years old and I remember Chamber Pots well !!!

Another funny episode! Just enjoy the American/British humor and these two are the best!
So sweet. Your husband’s loving words about you, Julie. Yes, you’re amazing!!
Who would have ever thought that lavatories could be so fascinating and funny! Love it!

lol tbh that is pure coastal American
One of the best ever videos.. Love it. I too check out all the toilets wherever I go around the world!!!! One thing a bit unsettling was not being able to flush toilet paper in Greek toilets due to small pipes not able to handle the load!! LOL
My favorite bit was the Vana-White-style gesturing toward the features while Luke described the newest wc bowl.
Luke’s enthusiasm to talk about the various toilets is golden! The old ones use so much water that my modern Eco-conscious mind cringes a little with each flush, but the history lover side of me is also fascinated by old toilets that still work!! This is my new favorite channel! 🥰
It's surprisingly interesting
Hilarious and informative.
Absolutely love the interaction between you two.
Adore Luke's dry wit and British wit in general especially after having been fortunate to have spent 4 years in England.

Well, it would since it is owned by murdoch. British people call it the daily fail.
LOL i have 2 of those plastic snowflakes... got mine from the Dollar Store. Chesapeake VA LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!!!!
As an American I side with Julie and don't understand the humor ONLY until it's explained and then I laugh out loud.. just saying.. Blessings from 3 bowl manner in Texas..;)

Came here to say the same. Best lines I've heard in ages!

Aw, Julie's disappointment upon hearing "We haven't got a Crapper" was poignant. You guys are hilarious together.
Thank you so much for dedicating an ornament to your patrons. That is so sweet and thoughtful and very much appreciated! 🎄

“Toilet has such a nasty vowel sound”. I almost wet my pants from laughing. You two are are so much fun to watch!
Please show more Christmas decorating!!
😆 I’m laughing out loud about water closets! Well done you two!
Very beautiful tree. Lovely ornaments too.
You're very inspiring, Julie. During lockdown we really do need to remember our health

Julie, you are our honorary ambassador to England
Oooo! And the statues on the gatepost looked as if they were working on the same pose as Julie!
Love watching you two together!! 🤣🤣🤣
Hilarious! Poor Julie 😂. Laughing at the terminology. And Julie made a bum pun. 😂😂
You go to the basement and there was a ghost of the first chamber pot wandering around lost!? Not knowing where to go because there not used anymore feeling left out! Lolol

LOVE IT! What a fun time. Think I might put a Dibben in my home.
Well I thought the pool one was my fav... NO! This one!!! You guys rock!!!!!
Watched this twice! Super entertaining as well as days spent at Mapperton is just a better day! ♥️
This video was gold! I learned more than I knew there was to know about loo’s. I can only imagine the talk you all have over the dinner table.
Uplifting, a good video you can tell they are both from loving familys

so glad you saved the loo. New ones are good but the old one is special.
Another fantastic episode! Here’s to a million views! Thank you for the information and the laughs!
Wonderful information and even better laughter!!
You two are so funny.
Hello 👋how are you doing?
Oh, Julie, I'm so enchanted by Mapperton and wish I could visit! Much love from Texas!
If you start your lights at the top and work your way down the tree i find it works easier. and closer to the outlet
What a lovely pre Christmas video. Thanks. I hope you have a happy and healthy Christmas.
OMG...this episode is killing me!!!! And so fascinating!!!!
Love! Love! Love! God bless.

Beautiful Christmas tree! I love your storage area!
Loved you 'loo' review. Reminded me of my school days (1970's not 1870) we used to remove the chain in the staff wc.
I’m American and I totally got the joke about squatters 🤣🤣🤣 This is top notch content 😆👌
Adorable and amazing. Thank you for your post. 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the Tudor door. And there's nothing like a decent loo - modern ones are anathema & contribute to all these sluggish sewer systems!
Lovely video and fantastic yoga!Would love to hear more about the Tudor door or similar .
Thanks for sharing!
My favorite episode so far!
Julie at 11:00 doing her best "Price is Right" prize demo lol
I can watch these videos for hours.... lovely! Thanks for the good times :)
This was actually quite fascinating! Ty for sharing!
You guys have the best content on the internet.
Thank you!
At around 9:45 Luke says, "Let's have a bath here later." I love the idea of the aristocrats talking about taking a cozy bath together. Pretty sweet.
Luke gushing with admiration for Julie during that photoshoot has to be one of the most wholesome things I've watched recently.
Just so enjoy you both and all the content, thank you..
I was afraid that we might just have lost Julie down that last loo! I must say though we don’t live in a mansion, we have unparalleled luxury with plastic cushioned seats on all 3 of our potties!
Hello dear how are you doing?
You are such a fun couple. I fully see how you are "up to" eachother.
Love the Christmas tree!
Love you guys!!
Hilariously entertaining and funny😀 Merry Christmas from Denmark
My dad always told me about John crapper it's so funny to hear you to talk about this. I love your vids.
And a perfect book while sitting on these brilliant bowls.
