She is absolutely brilliant. You can see her mind constructing elaborate tapestries of knowledge before she distills it all into a response that educates and guides people toward what her research has uncovered. She is a master teacher.
And the best part is that this master teacher won't sell her pupils a bunch of bunk. I think it is so confidence inspiring that she busts many of the traditional myths--like the "love at first sight" meeting with Albert. She researches until she finds substantial validation ("skewers it" in her words) for the facts like the hand holding while going down the steep stairs.

So nice to see Lucy responding to questions she’s interested in during a casual conversation. Rather than when she’s presenting more formally (which I also like).
Have just bought Lucy's book on Victoria, and I absolutely love it. Her enthusiasm for history and its stories are infectious. Also really enjoyed her documentary about the Princes in the Tower.
Growing up in London we used to call what was described as the lake in front of Kensington Palace the round pond. A few winters we were able to ice skate on it in the 1950’s.
Just watched her Jane Austen house video last night and assumed this was recommended to me because of that. Now I see it's a brand new upload! How serendipitous. 💫 Absolutely love Lucy, I'd listen to her talk about anything!
I absolutely love Lucy’s ability and knowledge of being able to enthuse and engage even the average armchair historian on a level not previously seen in an academic of her level. Everything I’ve watched with her in has left me far more informed and eager to hear even more. In fact I’d love to just sit round a good old fashioned English pub fire and listen to her, really excellent x
Aw. Michael Wood (the original cool historian), he reads Latin and old English, he’s seriously awesome, still is, , back in the the day he was the “thinking girls crumpet” lol. , Tracy Borman, she’s also a Dr. curator. There’s a few more! Look them up! Dan Jones, Susanna Lipscomb. . But I know what you’re saying. I love her, her books are wonderful too.
When Lucy is describing Victoria as the perfect monarch of the 19th century, it’s almost identical to the way Elizabeth II will be described, in my opinion (whether she was or not).

I was surprised to see twice, the photo of the young woman which seemed to suggest it was Queen Victoria as a young woman. She is not Victoria the Queen. She is Victoria’s daughter and eldest child, Victoria the Princess Royal.
If you are lucky to live near a theatre that she does one of her live shows go and see it. We seen her twice in our local theatre and it’s the best ever.

Love this lady, Lucy you are wonderful. Love history, especially British as my ancestors came to the Colonies in the 1600’s. Would love to visit one day. Windsor is my great love, could spend days there I bet.
as an architect, I am blown away by the pair of stairs at the end of the video. there just doesn't seem to be enough depth to the stringer to support the stair for the length of the run. and I am sure that there is stone treads and risers. would like to see how they are constructed.
As a non-architect, I must say I was fascinated also by the very same thing. At times, my eyes were trying to "fill in the gap" with the back wall but no - as the camera moves, one can see the very striking thinness/lack of vertical depth of the stair and one concludes that there's more than wood holding it up. It is, after all, called the Stone Stairs...
I love Lucy! Her special called "Victoria and Albert: The Royal Wedding" is absolutely smashing fun. You can't help but be fascinated by Victoria; the woman was quite remarkable, yet so very fragile. This was a woman who loathed pregnancy and babies while enjoying every part of making them. A woman who railed at the idea of losing one's sense of self and power to a man but loved having a strong, dominating man in her life to put her in her place. A woman who was jealous of her own children taking their fathers time, and being envious if they dared to like, let alone love each other.... What's not to enjoy learning about? She was quite the little character, ha!
Dr. Lucy should auction off an hour or two of a personally guided tour (in person or virtual) of a British historical location of choice. Funds could go to whichever non-profit associated with Dr. Lucy at the time. Her little anecdotes as she walks throughout locations are even better than her scripted broadcasts…and I rate those quite high already.
Yea. Noticed that. Lucy seems ready to criticise the patriarchy but ignores it when it comes to criticising a woman. I’d noticed several things in this program that changed my view of her a little bit.
Actually she wasn’t. In fact it came out about a year ago that Victoria had left so many diaries, that most historians have not read through all of them. It turns out that much of what we have been told about Victoria’s parenting actually came from the snarky snippets when she was having a hard time with her children. Historians are now going back in and reading her diaries and finding out that she was actually quite a loving and devoted mother, but that many male historians pulled out just the snarky tidbits when she was tired and frustrated with her children! Also, Victoria loved sex, she just didn’t like being pregnant! It caused her to put on so much weight, as she was small in stature, and it also slowed down her capacity to exercise. She has been quite an avid horse woman and exercise walk her, but the medical thought of that day was that a pregnant woman should not exercise, hence, she gained so much weight.
