(In any case, the study of History isn’t about sorting people into ‘goodies and baddies’. It’s about learning as much as we can. ) The Queen Mother was thinking of her daughter first of all. She aware of the fact that Elizabeth had never had a boyfriend, had almost never been alone with a young man, and was quite inexperienced when Philip began courting her. Which he did as soon as it was proper. (She was 13 when they first met, he was 17.) Philip had no real money and no country. That beginning may have led to a very happy ending - but you have to understand the Queen Mother’s fears . They were quite reasonable at the time.

His mother wasnt precisely 'royal', but certainly noble. It was some generations since any of her agnatic ancestors ruled in their own right (Louis II, Grand Duke of Hesse), and even then would be styled 'Grand Ducal Highness', not 'Royal Highness' or 'Imperial Highness', and as such is not royal.
Royal blood, yes, but not in any legal sense inherited.
As to his father, he never ruled any country as king, but Philip's grandfather did, but as to whether that could be inherited depends on whos laws and traditions are used. The use of titular 'prince' was continued to Philip, so that seems likely, even when no longer claiming the Kingdoms of Denmark nor Greece.

Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth's marriage/life very much mimics that of Queen Victoria. Her husband, Prince Albert, was also called a foreign, German "Prince from Nowhere" who very much modernized the palace after they married. They both had to fight to be something more than just "the Queens husband". Nonetheless, both served with great dignity until their deaths. There are so many similarities between both men. Amazing.

Give him a bit more credit, he was an intelligent, well educated, eloquent Royal who was part of OUR Royal family. His own family were the Greek Royal family who fled Greece after his father's brother, the King of Greece, was overthrown. When he came to England as a child he was sent to Gordonston school in Scotland and grew up more or less penniless. Philip was part of our Royal family for as long as I can remember, I'm 68, and was much loved and respected. He lived a life he wouldn't have been able to had he not married the Queen. The myth that Prince Philip somehow wasn't "first class royalty" is bizarre. Unlike Queen Elizabeth, her husband's ancestry is solid bedrock European royalty. Prince Philip is a direct descendant of Queen Victoria & Prince Albert, Catherine the Great & the Tsars of Russia, the German Kaisers, the Kings of Denmark and Greece and is related to virtually every royal house in Europe including Sweden, Norway, Holland, Romania and Spain. Prince Philip's uncle was Lord Mountbatten a great grandson of Queen Victoria, his Grandmother Victoria of Hesse's sister was the last Empress of Russia, his father Prince Andrew of Greece's first cousins were King George V of England and Nicholas 11 of Russia and his first cousin Princess Marina of Greece was married to the Queen's uncle the Duke of Kent. Forensic scientists even used Prince Philip's DNA to identify the skeletal remains of Russia's last Royal Children. Prince Philip is several times directly related to Queen Elizabeth sharing the same great great grandmother Queen Victoria and great great Grandfather King Christian 1X of Denmark. Queen Elizabeth's great great Grandmother Queen Alexandra of Britain and Prince Philip's grandfather King George I of Greece were brother and sister. Prince Philip was chiefly raised in France, Scotland and in England mostly under the sponsored guardianship of his British uncles the Marquess of Milford Haven and Lord Mountbatten. Prince Philip served in the British Navy throughout World War Two and was no "foreigner" to England.

I love when I watch these videos about Prince Phillip, they always talk about 'who was he' like they didn't know. His mother was a great granddaughter of Queen Victoria and she was born at Windsor Castle. Her mother, Princess Victoria of Hess later became the Marchioness of Milford Haven and she was a well known and beloved member of the family. His father was minor member of the Greek and Danish royal family. He also moved to the UK to live with his Grandmother and Uncle, and had a career in the British Navy. So they knew exactly who he was, they just keep asking that question in these videos for the drama that it adds....

Philip's grandfather (King George I of Greece) was the SON of King Christian IX of Denmark. George was ALSO the BROTHER of Queen Alexandra (wife of King Edward VII) and great grandmother of the present Queen. They were BLUE-EYED, BLOND LUTHERANS who spoke Danish and English (and provided excellent monarchs or spouses for monarchs). There was NO country of "Germany" until 1871. Philip's ancestors were SCANDINAVIAN not "German."
Elizabeth and Philip are DOUBLE cousins; both descended from Queen Victoria and from King Christian IX of Denmark. Christian IX was born in 1818 and Victoria was born in 1819. Christian IX delivered monarchs (or spouses of monarchs) to Denmark, Greece, England, Russia, Poland, Luxembourg, Norway and Spain. If Victoria was the "grandmother" of Europe, Christian was in the running for "grandfather" of Europe.

The SMART minorities knew that the Republicans treated them as equals and never demanded that they be "catered to" because they aren't able to succeed on their own.)

However, she was not above throwing her weight around in family issues. It is my belief based on things my Scottish grandmother told me, that it was the Queen Mother who required Charles follow the charges of marrying a virgin. Charles was in love with Camilla Shand, but the scuttlebut was that she slept with Charles and others and the Queen Mother forbid the match. My grandmother was the great great granddaughter of a Lady of the Bed Chamber or Dresser…and she spoke with authority! I know the Netflix series substantiated that if I remember correctly. I believe it for many reasons high on my list is her desire to retain power and authority over her daughter. As we know, Charles was able to marry a virgin, Diana, unfortunately, the whole palace thought Diana, because of her upbringing and familiarity with the RF, would accept her husband’s infidelity as many before her had done. After the Queen Mother’s death it permitted Queen Elizabeth II the freedom to permit the marriage. I’m pretty sure it was a topic of conversation after Diana’s untimely demise.
