    Since this was on Black Friday sale, I was contemplating purchase. Great review for what I was specifically looking for. The mouse wheel kills any hope for me - I love the tilt function in my MMOs and mobas. Even better when you combine it with other keys.

    My hands are fortunately big enough to comfortable reach all the buttons. As for build quality, it feels ok for a Steelseries mouse.
    The side buttons feel good for me, which seems like a common complaint with reviews.
    One thing I noticed is the front and back mouse feet look identical to the Aerox 3 I own too. However the Aerox 9's feet are smoother, and the Aerox 3 are kinda scratchy. I only am replacing the Aerox 3 feet with corepads.

    In regards to your comment at 6:30 about the battery life, I actually *will* be using it in bluetooth mode for basically the whole time I will be using the mouse. I need a mouse with 12 side buttons for productivity and Logitech has decided to not make a wireless version of the G600. I am not the only one interested in these type of mice for productivity rather than gaming.

      Can I ask what you do or use it for? $150 is too much for this as a gaming mouse, even harder to swallow for productivity

      @@Jaypher Photo editing is the thing I do that requires the most macros, but in most apps I find things to bind. Unfortunately, I have found the G602 (and therefore the G604) to be lacking in enough dedicated buttons.
      At all times no matter the app I'm in I want a separate thumb button for undo, redo, return/enter, delete, copy, paste, and cycle/switch applications. That's 7 buttons before any app specific or temporary macros. Preferably I have forward, back, tab right, tab left, and cycle windows as dedicated buttons while in a web browser. In photo editing buttons for crop, new layer, new layer with selection, zoom out, zoom in, bring to front, and send to back. Then there are times when it would speed up my workflow to have multiple large blocks of text in my clipboard at the same time like if I need to respond to/send a bunch of template emails. In those cases I will enter a macro that literally just types out whatever paragraph I wanted copied so I can have it ready while still having access to my clipboard.
      Are any of these macros *necessary* to live a happy and fulfilling life? No. Is it nice to have all these macros available so I spend less time constantly moving my hand between my mouse and my keyboard? Yes.

      i use mine for autocad 8 hours a day and agree with your assessment about how it improves your productivity.
      does the steelseries software support per application button profiles? reviewing the mouse is only half of it. how well the software works can make or break the mouse.

      Logitech better make a G600 wireless version eventually, being able to pair a fps wireless mouse and a mmo style mouse to the same receiver would be a great tidy convenience, its bit of a bummer using a wireless light speed 502 mouse then having to switch to a wired mmo mouse when a particular game/situation needs it.
      Paid close to $150 down here in nz for my 502 wireless totally don't regret it, it was way too much but i've enjoyed it so much i feel ive gotten my moneys worth.

    Although some of the issues you mentioned might be nice to see addressed, I think this will be the perfect replacement for my wired redragon mmo mouse. The wireless mmo mice from redragon don't allow for programming of all 18 buttons, which is a must for my use, whereas this is the first one I have seen that does. I suppose Ill get it off amazon so I can return it for free if its not up to par for me. Thanks for the review.

      I just purchased this to replace my Scimitar Pro RGB, and I absolutely LOVE it. The side buttons are extremely well designed and hefty. The clicks are very nice. And having a middle mouse button that clicks left and right was something I missed with my Scimitar. The software from steel series makes it very easy to set macros and keybinds. For $69.99 new(lightning deal at Amazon) it’s an incredible steal.

    Ive been a G600 guy for years and years and years. I enjoy the feel. The price is amazing to the point where I don't mind throwing $30 down every few years when the double click happens (despite the fact I could just replace the switches). And as a dual monitor guy, I prefer the software over other options. I say that last part as in the OLD software not the new one. I play a lot of games and I like having different configs for games. Its nice to have the diagram out on my second screen for new games with the buttons labeled as what letter they are as well as what they do. I randomly saw the Aerox on amazon and immediately went to see your review. I would love Logitech to update this mouse... but because its logitech, that ain't happening. This mouse has been the same one for over 10 years. Id be shocked if they ever release a new one.

    Can anyone tell me what is aproximate real time of use the mouse on one charge. I am using mine for about a week now and the battery life seems to be on the low side. Didn't measure it exactly but after two days of playing which i would say is about max 15 hours usage of it, the battery level dropped to 20%. That seems to be way too quick compared to the official number of 80hrs for 2.4GHz connection. Not sure if i need to return it or that is normal.

    It’s a pretty mouse, had it for one day. Too big for my hand, thumb placement was wrong on my buttons, had to press hard to do anything on the buttons. Still like it but I went back to taxer naga pro because I’m more use to it and goes well with my hand. Pick a mouse that best suit your hands.

    I have their Rival 500 wired which they don't even sell anymore... I was hoping that they would have an updated wireless version when I went to check recently.. I really wanted the same style of buttons but more ergonomic... I also wish they would do a small and large size option as all the mice they have seem to be only for guys with pretty big hands, and even then I see a lot of reviews talking about how the mouse is still kinda big for them.. I have super small hands (I'm 5'4'') so I have a lot of fatigue using even my Rival 500 because it's also really bulky in the butt area so I can't comfortably reach 3 of the buttons without moving my hand really far forward but then my wrist gets fatigue from having to hover too much. I can't use many of the wrist rest out there either cause they use that weird spandex-y material which I'm allergic to... Sigh, I'll have to find a different brand that sells small mice... I like SteelSeries headsets and keyboards but their mice aren't getting better for me

    Hopefully the good thing that comes out of the Aerox 9 is that future companies will be competitive in this market and do the PTFE feet, good switches, light weight, USB C, and have a sliding mechanism like the corsair scimitar(which I believe is underrated).

      Been using the scimitar since it was released and it is hands down my favorite mouse ever. I use it mainly for FPS games but also have the keys bound to different things since I work a lot in 3D softwares and FX. My only issue with it is the switches. Since I play mainly FPS games the switches are a little stiff and not as reactive and just slow compared to actual FPS mice. But thats an issue due to me wanting to use an MMO mouse, still absolutely love it!

  • @mrpixelator

    I like the app for this mouse. It allows acceleration and deceleration fine adjustments and the software just works, as opposed to Logitech's G-Hub dumpster-fire. I have small and arthritic hands so the side buttons may never be something I can reliably use, sadly - at best just the rearmost three. Would that somebody would make a smaller/shorter MMO mouse that didn't require a five inch long double-jointed thumb... My main complaints with this model are the non-lighted side buttons and the inexplicable cutout holes in the actual 1 and 2 buttons. If I keep it, I'm covering those with stickers or something. So far it feels better than the G502 X, especially the quieter, better feel mouse wheel.

    I have huge hands and it's perfect for me. Only issue is the side buttons are extremely stiff. I find myself having to exert my thumb in a weird way and long periods of usage tires out my palm.

  • @brodofraggins
    @brodofraggins Год назад +1

    My biggest complaint is the post travel on the main mouse buttons. I don't really mind the heavier side buttons, makes it feel like I'm less likely to accidentally press a key when lifting the mouse in general use. I switched to this mouse from the Corsair Scimitar and I definitely like it. I will say that I wish the side buttons were a little shorter, the overall footprint of the 12 keys is quite a bit longer than on my scimitar which results in having to reach a little bit more with my thumb to be able to hit all of the keys.

    • @user-xf3cu4le5z
      @user-xf3cu4le5z 6 месяцев назад

      Curious, what size of hands are you? What buttons on the side do you find to be hard reaching? I'm debating this or the schimitar, specifically for the harder to press side buttons, but i have read many with your complaint about the size buttons hard to reach on the SteelSeries.

    • @brodofraggins
      @brodofraggins 6 месяцев назад

      @user-xf3cu4le5z my palms are above average, but I have fairly average finger length, maybe a little shorter. It's not necessarily the fact that the buttons are too far, it's that the footprint of the layout is larger making the stretch from the front row to the back row a bit uncomfortable. Holding the mouse where the front row is easily reachable can make the back row hard to reach. Doable, but harder. I do prefer the size on the corsair, but I don't dislike the steel series.

      @@brodofraggins ty for replying, yes i think I'm going to go with the Corsair, like you mentioned i hate how most mice are using the clicky buttons, they are just too easily actuated when moving but this and Corsair don't have that which is nice.

    if somebody read this pls help.
    i use mmo mouse for design apps like blender/ substance painter/ zbrush and so on.
    i switch profiles frequently and i need it fast. razor naga has an issue with this, with 1-3 second profile switch lagging it may cause disasterous effects when i use side buttons.
    the same thing happens with LOGITECH G600. so far the best was Corsair scimitar, but the corsair thing always broken.
    anyway my question is, is this SteelSeries Aerox 9 have a profile switch lagging issue.
    Thanks :)

  • @jbond.007

    I love this mouse but the software sucks. I have several configurations setup for different games I play and sometimes the mouse won't even recognize the game is running and won't switch to that profile and even when you go into the software and tell the mouse to switch to that profile it won't and I'm forced to have to turn off/on the mouse for it to start working again. If they can iron out the kinks in the software I'd probably continue to use it.

    This mouse seems like the perfect in-between for an MMO mouse and an fps mouse. Not because of the weight, there are Naga models that are lighter (Wired Naga X comes in at 85g), but the shape. Ditto i hate the naga partly for that reason, i'd prefer the ring finger side of the mouse to have bit of a groove to it so lifting the mouse from the left side is easier and so there is less chance that finger will drag on/touch your mouse mat.
      I love these style of mice but because of the extra weight and different thumb grip that pinkie finger imo needs a better surface to grip for better level lift off. I'm intrigued how this mouse feels in that regard.

    Such a deep review, thanks man! + A Question:
    I got RAZER NAGA PRO (V1), and already my 1st copy went bad after 6 months (middle click actuated randomly x2 twice). It got replaced and I'm worried that these NAGA's all have a self exploding timer.
    1. Are there other options with 12 side buttons + Hypershift switch - which work with with macros and Adobe softwares? (being able to automatically switch to that App's profile?)
    Cause it seems like only the NAGA does that well (just self destructs though).
    2. I think that if I don't have internet access > Therefore, no access to RAZER SYNAPSE > Therefore all of my macros and key settings are just gone.
    Is that true? + Are there other brands that will work and remember all of your settings even if you're offline?
    Many thanks!!!

    Big thing I noticed is this mouse is very long, it's already difficult to stretch a thumb back to 10, 11, 12 on the older MMO mice if you want to do it fast. I was worried this one would require a grip change anytime I wanted to reach those keys. Combine that with honeycomb on the triggers and the price on the mouse itself and I gotta pass.
    I'm hopeful mouse manufacturers will keep pressing on the MMO mouse designs because right now it's basically the Scimitar or the NAGA, and both could definitely see improvements.
    Definitely check out the Scimitar if you haven't yet, I wound up switching off a NAGA after over a decade of using Razer. The Corsair software will drive you nuts compared to what RAZER offers, though.

      I always use the ahh how to describe it.. the area between your first joint and second joint on your big finger to press against 10,11,12 no need to bend your thumb alll the way back to reach the last 10,11,12 buttons have done this naturally since day one using a naga for a few years then logitech G600 6+ years i've always assumed thats how you are supposed to press the last 3 buttons on these mice. I have average size male hands :-/.
      I do ignore 7,8,9 for fps etc type games because reaching these can cause issues in some games that require you to have a good grip tho even then i just map less important things to these keys where when i use them its not a issue.

    I've tried the Naga and the wireless kept cutting in and out and mouse cursor wouldn't track properly. Also had an issue where the mouse sensor would start to track erratically after like 6 months of use. I am very gently with my electronics and I don't abuse them. I still have a 7 year old G600 that works perfectly with no double click or misclicks. I have an original G602 that still works perfectly and a G604 from release that works flawlessly. I don't buy Razer mice because they are garbage and break after minimal use or develop the ever so annoying double click issues. Just check any tech forum and you'll Razer getting blasted all over the place clicking issues. I might try the Naga Pro wireless but I am extremely weary and skeptical because I've had nothing but garbage from Razer in the past. Who knows. Maybe they got better since the last time I used one of their mice almost 5+ years ago. Right now I use the Corsair Scimitar and it's almost perfect. I just want it to be lighter and wireless.

    About to return mine, i hate how stiff the sidebuttons are. Also they are placed too far for my tiny hand. Biggest problem is that i use push to talk on discord, i use button 10 for that. When i press the button to talk and if i lift the pressure even slightly it cuts out my voice. So the membrane switches are so shitty quality that i need to press it with full force to keep it pressed (yes, it cuts out even if its pressed beyond the click, which it should not do). I am back to using my Corsair Scimitar, it has no such problems, Only thing is that its wired and i would much rather have wireless, but there are no options. It's good mouse, easy to use and quickly charged. I do not like travels of the M1 M2 at all, and as being RGB mouse, the lighting is poorly placed... should had have at least more leak of the light in the sides.
      While overall well, material feels annoying a little in my hand. I think this "brushed" surface may have in this unit being too harshly brushed... who knows. Therefore the price of this: Definitely should be under 100 bucks/euros/pounds/dollars.
      And finally.... this whole software from steelseries... absolute dog shit... big big let down.

    its on sale at around $100 now, and i still dont think im going to buy it. i keep hearing about how some of the thumb buttons are awkward to reach, and honestly, i have a aerox 3 and i think there is just something inherently wrong with the way the M1 and M2 buttons are designed in this series of mice.
    side wobble, spongey feeling when clicking close to the 'hinge', flexing when clicking close to the far end... the way the M1 and M2 plates are screwed on is just not a good design imo.
    its annoying because it has so many other good things going for it. but always feels like at a >$100 price range i may as wall just buy a razer for a little bit more. i'm waiting to see what the next gen of aerox's is like, or just gonna buy a razer naga pro tbh

    You must've received a bad unit. I had no issues with the left or right mouse clicks feeling "cheap" at all. The side buttons needed to be mechanical and not feel mushy or like membrane keys/buttons. The battery life is not at all near 100+ hours in 2.4Ghz mode especially with RGB turned on. Battery life dropped 10% in 2 hours of use with RGB turned on for me and it was set to a static color.
    I feel like Steel Series really missed the mark on this one and the mouse was developed by people that cared more about how it looked versus fit, feel, and function. The responsiveness, light weight feel, and slickness of the mouse feet are great but everything else about this mouse is not great. Definitely not worth $150. This is a $80 mouse at best imo.

    I appreciate the honest and detailed review. As an MMO player for 16 years (jesus I'm just realizing that) and an owner of this mouse, I'd like to weigh in a little.
    My biggest complaint is the 2 and 3 side buttons, as they require a slight grip adjustment. HOWEVER, there is so much that you can bind in an mmo, that having a slightly out of reach button is really a non issue. I usually have 2 and 3 keybound to eat/drink/misc functions that I SHOULDN'T use in combat. Having them sliiiightly out of reach is fine for these buttons. Generally, I don't think mouse buttons are great for main rotation abilities. In other words, you really shouldn't be spamming your mouse buttons. Instead, I find that it works a lot better to bind them to major cooldowns, defensives, movement abilities, buffs, etc. For that reason, I like the higher actuation force to avoid misclicks.
    That's my biggest gripe with this mouse, but I love nearly everything else about it. Personally, I think the Razer Naga Hex v1 was PEAK mouse button design. It's really sad they're discontinued. I'd love a wireless naga hex.

      literally fuck the ring finger that makes me mad i hate that lol

  • @Drewsterman777
    @Drewsterman777 2 года назад +1

    So I have 3 gripes with this mouse:
    1. The 12 side buttons are way too far forward. I have large hands. When I say large I mean that large size work gloves you buy at Home Depot juuuuuuust barely fit me and I have to squeeze my hands into them just a bit. So when I say the side buttons are too far forward then imagine someone with big ol sausage mits having a hard time reaching the front buttons and I use a palm grip and not a claw grip when mousing.
    2. The right side of the mouse is narrow, smooth and rounded. This makes it difficult to grab pickup the mouse using my ring finger and pinky finger. I found myself not picking up the mouse, dropping it early when doing large movements or having to concentrate on picking it up and moving into position.
    3. The side buttons, for me, were a little too stiff to actuate. The Logitech G600 has stiff buttons and I didn't like that. The Corsair Scimitar has easily pressed side buttons and I would place the Aerox 9 side buttons right in between those two as far as pressure needed to actuate the buttons.
    Other than those 3 gripes, the mouse is fan-freaking-tastic.
    The feet on this mouse feel darn near frictionless and it is incredibly light weight.
    The sensor is super accurate and extremely responsive.
    I am very sensitive to wireless mouse input lag and I can feel it with the Logitech G604 mouse but the Aerox 9 is incredibly indiscernible. I bet you money that you cannot tell the difference between this mouse and a wired mouse.
    The battery drops fast with RGB on but sips power with it off.
    The only mouse that I could see beating this would be if Corsair made a wireless version of the Scimitar.
    One more thing I forgot to mention as a gripe. The functions of 'Back' and 'Forward' to go back a page or forward page in a web browser are inherently set to button 4 and 5 respectively. Button 4 and button 5 are not labeled to tell you that they have this inherent command function in the software. So say if you want left tilt on the middle mouse wheel to be the 'back' command then you would assign the left tilt action with button 4 and the right tilt action with button 5 for the forward command.

    • @Jaypher
      @Jaypher  2 года назад

      These are all great points, I appreciate you sharing your input! What exact size are your hands on CM? Measuring from tip or middle finger to base of palm and from base pinky knuckle to middle thumb knuckle?

    • @Drewsterman777
      @Drewsterman777 2 года назад

      @@Jaypher Middle finger to base of palm is 8 inches or 20.32 CM using a converter online. I'm in the US and my measuring tape doesn't have CM on it. Not sure how you want me to measure my hand from pinky to thumb so I just measured from pinky knuckle to thumb knuckle across the top of the hand where the first knuckle starts at the palm which is 5 inches or 12.7 CM using an inch to CM converter.

    The issue with the Razer Naga is the software. Razer's software is aweful. I mean, how long has the razer synapse 3 software been in open beta, 4? Maybe 5 years? Not to mention the bug fixing is basically non existent, with people still waiting over 10 years now for them to fix basic bugs with razer keyboards & keypads. My daily driver has been the Corsair Scimitar ever since my original non RBG Naga broke back years ago. Don't get me wrong, I have tried many other Razer products over the years & even still use a razer orbweaver because lack of option but frankly... I wouldn't touch a new razer product with a 10 foot barge pole & to be honest I avoid the entire company like a plague. The only exception to that buying refurbished Orbweavers as at least they don't use the god awful Synapse 3 software. Which soon won't even be an issue as I have a Azeron Cyborg on the way.

    This mouse has issues for me, either the right click has connections issues or its the software, which I reinstalled 4-5x. My character constantly experiences delays between walking/stopping even though the 2.4 GHz receiver is just fucking 5 cm away. The lighting has damn issues syncing in the software whether prismsync is on or off.
    Buttons 1/2/3 are too far away from the thumb placement and I'm a palm grip user with normal sized hands. It's like their mice are meant for NBA players or something.
    All in all, bad experience with aerox 9. Stick to naga or try Logitech g600 or maybe even the Corsair one.
