It was at that moment that I pulled the plug and laid my mouse to rest. Rest in peace m009, may your light live on in steelseries rival 5.
85g isn't that bad, 100g+ is when I feel it's just bad for fast movements. Too bad it's too big for my hand. I wish companies could make 3 sizes, and everyone would be happy.
I've rocked the Steelseries 600, and the 650 wireless the last year or two. One big problem with steelseries mices is the clickers. They tend to fail relativly quickly. 3 of my buttons on the 650 wireless ( about 1 year old) is glitchy and works only sometimes. Going to skip the rival 5 and go for a logitech
eh ive gone through a few mice but after looking up what mice were best for cs go back when i cared about the game i heard about the rival 500, so i got it. its definitely a great mouse. i havent had a problem with the clicker going early on either of the 3 i had. ones clicker did die but that was after a few years and i managed to fix it. plus steelseries comes with an auto clip for multi kills which has been nice
@@meowmeow9326 Meh. I am over steelseries products. They are very overpriced for what you get if you compare to other Brands. Been using Xtrfy since my last 650 wireless without any problems.
I honestly only wanted the holes on the surface on my mouse for sweaty games. My palms get sweaty as is playing with controller, I might need that feature.
It's a multi tasking mouse(moba, fps, battle royal all with a single mouse), it isn't meant to be light, the mouse fells in the same catagory as Rival 600, g502 hero or Basilisk V2 which are 128g, 121g and 92g respectively, so it's the lightest among it's compitator and its own ancestor! Anyway great video either!
Rival 600 user here, planning on getting this one since my mouse wheel is broken. just gonna ask if the silver button is a little awkward to press? Because on the Rival 600, the button 7 is a little far from the thumb to press on. I really liked the lighting effects of the rival 600 but the button 7 is just really hard to reach for my asian hands so I'm a little worried that the Rival 5 mouse would be the same.
I might have to try this one. i really like the extra buttons that this mouse has. my left hand dexterity sucks, so having the option for more keyboard binds is great.

Nice review👍👍 Also i got a question what keyboard should i get Ducky One 2 mini,Alloy origins 60,Huntsman mini or Corsair k65 mini? (all the same price in my country)

just got this for £25 second hand. Should be a solid upgrade, I was using a G402 before, g402: 144g, no RGB, 3 thumb buttons Rival 5: 87g, RGB, 5 thumb buttons
hey techne thank you for the review! I just had a question: does it feel like that thumb button gets in the way while you hold it? I’m wondering because I’ve got fairly big hands (20 cm) and I’m considering buying this
@@TheTechne thanks so much! One more question, if you don’t mind. would you recommend this over the prime mouse for people like me who like palm gripping and ergonomic style mice? the prime looks like it has a great ergonomic shape but it does look a lot smaller for my big hands, and it also seems to be more for claw/fingertip people...
as somebody with one hand i really "need" that lil button in front of the wheel. The logitech G400s is my forever mouse because of it's layout... NO other mouse has come out that services this need since.. Companies have all but given up on this great design!
I have big hands, my perfect mouse is rarely the same as other people. Took a chance on this one and first impressions are model O and g703 and mama elite levels of utility. I actual do intent fully on Swiss cheesing this mouse and using my helium pipe technique to litigate and mitigate the shortcomings because it fits my hands very close to perfect
In the spirit of reviewing mice that swims against the current of being superlight, holed, etc. Maybe review the Razer Naga Pro? not alot of reviews on that one either. which i found weird considering how legendary the OG Naga is
Any chance you can review any lefty/ambidextrous mice? I like your vids but I pretty much have no idea what to look for except the Viper Ultimate or Logitech G903. Carpal tunnel has forced me to swap hands lol
😅 I have this mouse right now, actually. Using it in place of my Razer Basilisk because I ran out of batteries to keep using it and decided I'm just gonna get a new wired mouse in the future.
Bought one yesterday, gonna return it. Have a weird twist in the cable giving a slight force which is annoying. the plastic is super cheap, right clicking makes a 2nd sound which bothers me loads. And the software has to run 24/7 or its a discoball. I dont like to have 200-250 Megabyte loaded in my RAM all the time just for the RGB to be turned off, its stupid.
My experience with SteelSeries and why I avoid their peripherals: I have used over four different SteelSeries mice in the past, and they all are among the worst mice I ever used. I had other products from SteelSeries too, and I can't say I liked any of them, but the mice are the worst. The main issue for me with their mice is, they don't last very long. The glue for the rubber pads is horrible, and they start to move after only a couple months of using the mouse daily. The worst scenario I encountered was that the rubber pads came off completely, and the glue basically wouldn't hold them anymore. The plastic and basically the entire material they use all over their products ware off a lot faster than on the products of other brands. At least in my experience. So, I can't really recommend any of their stuff to anyone, at least not for the price. Especially their flagship products are outrageously overpriced when comparing their quality to products from other brands. What other brands am I talking about? Well, in my experience, ANY other top-tier/well-known brand has better stuff than SteelSeries. That's just my two cents about SteelSeries.
Hey techne since you are almost an expert in this area which mouse from steelseries has the shape of the steelseries rival 100? Used the mouse for years and i really love that shape
Big mouse fan here 🙌🏻 I just returned the Deathadder V2 Pro, it’s size was good, but my pinky just slides around on the mat and idk it just drives me crazy, would have been perfect with a pinky rest.
looks like a great mouse, but the cable can be annoying for fps gamers. i love the extra buttons that can be use for other functionality. overall, a good mouse, but the price tag is not for me. would consider buy it if its a little cheaper. and yea, i agree with what you said about mouse community or any other community. it can be a little toxic at times
the ammount of buttons seems like it could be very useful for a productivity mouse lol, i actually had no idea that one big thing above the side buttons was actually another button lol, thought it just was part of the shell
Too many buttons? Can't say that's a thought I have never had. WoW player here, over 50, need a big mouse to fit my man hands. I prefer around 9 usable buttons not counting the scroll wheel, which honestly shouldn't be a button but whatever. The thing I find frustrating is the trend towards less buttons. I have two Rival 500's with the front index finger button broken. I have tried 5 other products and the Logitech 502 is the only one that came close. But in the end, the broken button 500 is still better.
Very detailed review, The Rival 5 feels like a decent buy, it's a big boi. I agree with you that we shouldn't judge what mice we use, it sucks that some people go wild if they know your mice doesn't have holes in it 😂
I LOVE the Rival Mouse and this style in general, but I wish they would put a few extra buttons on top of the mouse!! As a healer in World of Warcraft that would make all of the difference. I am never going to click with my Thumb -- it ain't happening lol :) My Thumb is for clicking to run only...
does the side pad seem to detach like the rival 6? I have had to replace them twice in my year of use because the glue used seems to be sub-par to say the least.
Does your ring finger ever get pinched when right clicking this mouse? Just wondering because the right mouse button comes down pretty far, does that feel awkward having to keep your ring finger below it? Thanks.

no not at all. many other mice with this feature to get in the way, but this one does not at all
@@TheTechne thanks so much!
Steelseries:
Headset: 🔥🔥🔥
Keyboard: 🔥🔥🔥
Mouse pad:🔥🔥🔥
Mouse: 🍆
Actually steelseries has the best mouse sensors
Techne: So stinkin good
Me: sniffs* mmm the sweet aroma of good quality
In the spirit of reviewing mice that swims against the current of being superlight, holed, etc.
Maybe review the Razer Naga Pro? not alot of reviews on that one either.
which i found weird considering how legendary the OG Naga is
is the white button used by the thumb hard to reach? ive been having speculations about that....
My experience with SteelSeries and why I avoid their peripherals:
I have used over four different SteelSeries mice in the past, and they all are among the worst mice I ever used.
Exactly! I would also like to see a wireless version.
Techne! Do you have any plans for a review of the newly rumored/announced Steelseries Prime wireless? Maybe a teaser coming soon?
I will review all SteelSeries Products
Hey man big fan, I’ve been wondering for l
Right now what would be the best budget 144hz monitor like under $300 or $200
Sure hope they don’t have crappy adhesive on the rubber side grips like on the Rival 600.
It's a great mouse, but if you are even mildly aggressive, expect to replace every few months. Not built to take much abuse.
Could you review the msi optix 24 g242 montior as it's so cheap for a ips 1080p 144hz monitor and please can you review the jbl quantum 400 headset
Hey techne since you are almost an expert in this area which mouse from steelseries has the shape of the steelseries rival 100? Used the mouse for years and i really love that shape
Dude that opening was all i wanted to say. Ty from covered me.
Big mouse fan here 🙌🏻
I just returned the Deathadder V2 Pro, it’s size was good, but my pinky just slides around on the mat and idk it just drives me crazy, would have been perfect with a pinky rest.
wait till tomorrow, I'll have the prefect mouse for you ;)
@@TheTechne 🙏🏻
looks like a great mouse, but the cable can be annoying for fps gamers. i love the extra buttons that can be use for other functionality. overall, a good mouse, but the price tag is not for me. would consider buy it if its a little cheaper.
and yea, i agree with what you said about mouse community or any other community. it can be a little toxic at times
the ammount of buttons seems like it could be very useful for a productivity mouse lol, i actually had no idea that one big thing above the side buttons was actually another button lol, thought it just was part of the shell
Id recommend the rival 3 then
My thoughts exactly: wireless with the same weight. Maybe make the shell a bit more one piece, it looks a bit like a transformer.
I agree with you that we shouldn't judge what mice we use, it sucks that some people go wild if they know your mice doesn't have holes in it 😂
I really like this mouse the aerox looks great but it is too light for my likings im happy that i got the last rival 5 in stock at the store :D
take a shot everytime techne says "you know what I mean."
Would you say the shape of this is similar to the 310? I love the profile of that mouse and chose not to get the prime series because of it
nice review, i bought it on CSGO and its really nice :), i had 155gram so many years :D, i like full size dimensions and RGB
does the side pad seem to detach like the rival 6? I have had to replace them twice in my year of use because the glue used seems to be sub-par to say the least.
Does your ring finger ever get pinched when right clicking this mouse? Just wondering because the right mouse button comes down pretty far, does that feel awkward having to keep your ring finger below it? Thanks.
i need to choose steelseries comfort grip and accurate pointer and confident which one is best?
a few cs:go pros still use heavier mice like the rival 300 and earlier zowies
I miss their MMO mouse. It's unobtainium here nowadays :(
I'm settling with the G604 now.
