I think it's a bit of a shame MMO mice haven't really escaped the 'mmo' branding, since I think there's a lot of potential we might be missing outside that space. I've been using one for all sorts of media editing for a decade now and it's such a useful part of the workflow. I'd be curious to see if a branding shift to other customer groups would help push a bit of innovation?

I agree. My architect cousin introduced me to the Razer Naga mouse back in 2012. He used it for AutoCAD. I think it was standard company issue. He bought one for personal use and gifted me one as well. I was in awe when he explained to me it was for his work.
Seeing that Razer, Logitech, Corsair and now Steele Series have MMO Mice I am hoping that competition will push these companies to make them better especially Razer whose mice durability is always in question and their compatibility with Mac OS.
Hoping that Logitech and Corsair make their MMO mice wireless soon.

I originally got an MMO mouse for WoW, but I can't play any games without one now. Having almost all your hotkeys set to your mouse and keeping the keyboard purely for movement feels so much cleaner.

This is how I’ve felt for a long time but got interested on how most pros stick to keyboard keybinds using mechanical keyboards. I think there’s a certain advantage using mechanical switches on a keyboard vs regular button on a mouse but I can’t shake the convenience of the mmo mouse.

Finally I can make use of my thumb while gaming lol. On a more serious note, having more mouse buttons is more of a game changer than many people might think. You don't have to let go of WASD for any given action or selection which can make a huge difference in heated situations. Some games take more advantage of this than others but when it does it really shines. Not to mention all the use cases outside of gaming. I LOVED my G602 while browsing and working back in the day.

I have used Reddragon, now on my 3rd MMO style mouse in probably 5 years, cannot go back to a mouse with just a couple of side buttons. I really do think these should be rebranded, I have never played an MMO, but for productivity and general use it really should be adopted more. I use it for copy, paste, volume, skipping tracks, closing windows, switching windows, opening file explorer, closing windows etc. These should be called swiss army knife mice. Glad to see Steelseries doing this, hope more follows

Same here, I've been using MMO style mice for like 10 years even for FPS because you can bind the side buttons to all your weapon/equipment/melee etc and pretty much never take fingers off WASD. The ring finger button for me is the perfect discord PTT button. The only mouse I've found with a ring finger button like that is EVGA X15 but its also heavy and not wireless

this actually appeals to me as a video editor! i've been using the corsair scimitar with those 12 thumb macros for 3 years, and it's alright. but after trying lighter mice, it's a bit dummy thicc these days and the wire doesn't help.
i do wish the side buttons were textured; the corsair scimi has alternating textured rows so it's easier to recognize the buttons. but not a dealbreaker--when you use these types of mice, there is always a unique learning curve you gotta drill into your head!
the price isn't.. great. but for what it is, it's not horrendous. will DEF look into this! 🙌

I use cut to size velcro strips on my G600 mouse's side buttons to help get a feel which buttons are which ie num2 num5 num11 have a square velcro strip on them it helps make it more obvious where your thumb is placed, looks like this mouse would benefit from this as well.

I use this mouse for Apex. For the side buttons: key 1-=Weapon slot 1. Key 3-=Weapon slot 2. (I separate them so I don’t accidentally press one of them and key-2 is harder to hit without accidentally hitting 3 or 1). Key-4 =crouch (makes sense because it’s lower and became very intuitive over time for crouching, sliding, etc.) key-5=put weapon away. key-9= heal & heal wheel when holding. Key-8= map. Key-7= throwables & throwable wheel when holding. Key-12= emotes etc. I still keep reload as R on keyboard, and X as ultimate etc.

If I didn't use the G-shift excessively on the G600, I'd be tempted. I got mine initially for MMOs (and a wireless naga battery blew up in my hand) It's been the gold standard for me in the market, it's cheap feels good in my hands and I can always use the buttons for productivity and gaming, though I did get a second mouse for FPS/MOBA just because of the weight. It's tempting between wireless and weight, Bluetooth toggle would be handy for swapping computers too which is something I've had to do more recently. I don't think I can make the jump, but it's good enough for me to side eye it quite a bit.
As for the button lay out, I just mentally see it as a numpad, helped me jump into it quite a bit once it clicked in my head.

Hey, Frank! Great review on this mouse. Unfortunately not a pickup for me but it's great to see MMO mouses finally getting some attention again. Hopefully this helps some other companies to try and re-innovate the style.
Have you had any interest in odd types of keypads for review? We usually see the style like the Razer Tartarus, but I picked up an Azeron Compact last year and it's completely changed the way I play "keyboard" and mouse. More shocking, it's gotten no attention outside of a review years ago by one channel. Would be awesome to see you give it some attention despite it being a little pricier than some other reviews you've done.

I put any "hand items" on the mouse; reloading, interact, skills, lethal grenades, etc. and then I keep my left hand for movement. Am I any good at games? No.

Really cool review! I been waiting for Steelseries to release an MMO mouse for ages. I am a huge FFXIV player who has been using Razer Naga's since their first release but have been dissapointed with the drop in quality on the later models. Steelseries innovates a lot with their peripherals so I been eyeing up this mouse on amazon and this review was still awesome to see. The one thing I want to add as that it would be really hard for them to statically change the button order on the side of the mouse for the market they are targeting with the mouse, as at least with me I am a simple person who doesn't customize the buttons much, and like to have the order match the flow I have been using ever since the OG naga back in 2014 so having reverse numpad is a must ( I really tried to swap to the EVGA mmo mouse at some point but man that was weird, cool but so weird). That being said, having stickers to lay over them, or maybe something like mini elgato stream deck buttons so they can match whatever the user macros onto them (with internal storage to stay that way) would be a super cool premium option that could be so cool if any company wanted to go that far for a niche product.

Both this steelseries mouse as the corsair one has a lot of buttons, but the surface is flat, meaning that it can be hard to distinguish the different buttons, this wasnt the case with the Nyth. I personally got a great deal a while back on the Redragon “IMPACT ELITE M913” Wireless mouse for $35USD on a sale directly from Redragon. It ways about 125g on my scales (129g on website) and it’s an awesome wireless design with support and grip for ALL fingers which is great to see. If it was a little lighter i would says it’s the GOAT for me. I’ve tried Razer and Logitech, but the Redragon is the best for me by far with function and comfort!

all of the moba mouses have the keys in that orientation you get used to it super easy. the theory of the mouse is to use the 5 button as the guide because of the little nub on it. I feel like if you played with the style for a while like I have you would fell no different. My concern of the buttons on the side is the fact that the buttons are sized very strangely at the top vs the bottom

Picked this up on discount after being a religous user of the razer naga series since 2011 as an MMO player, I was starting to notice some wrist strain from how heavy the naga is so I figured I owuld give this a go. The weight difference is immediately noticable, I prefer the 12 button layout as well. I do miss the ergonomic shape and mechanical buttons for the 12 button grid on the naga though, but the tradeoff was worth it for me.

The lightweight refresh is way overdue for this class of mice IMHO. Been using the G604 and the Naga Pro. I decided to stay with Razer because of their optical switches and the mic mute option in Synapse. Their bluetooth absolutely sucks compared to Logitech and their software is occasionally buggy but you can't have everything. I guess I'll never switch to a mouse without the mic mute option in its software

This one looks really nice and a step above in quality, but I wish it was 9 buttons instead of 12

Well all you have to do to kow why is look at all the people whining in every comment video about it having too many buttons or being too big lol. The mouse was brilliant and wasn't designed for little girls and skeletion warriors. All we have got from Steelseries has been the same mouse re-branded for the past load of years, I'm fully done with them now. All they make is shit low effort products. My Rival 500 broke there and I'm raging having to use a different gaming mouse, it's completely put me off play stategy games now because I have way less control. I'm probably gonna have to buy a Rat 8+ or something.

I really wish that these wireless mice would have a hotswapable battery. I quite recently got the Steelseries Nova Pro Wireless headset & having the dock charge a battery while your using the other, especially since the batteries last so long & charge so fast. OMG gamechanger. I really don't see why they couldn't apply this same technology to mice as the mouse itself already has a battery that adds weight, so adding the ability to say eject it out the side & slap in a freshly charged battery would be amazing. No more having to worry about your mouse running out of battery & having to charge it, 24/7 365 computing with no wires. You can't tell me that wouldn't be awesome.

About 6 years ago I wanted a Logitech mouse but it was out of stock so my dad got the corsair scimitar pro, at the time I said "why would I need 12 macro buttons" although now I can't live without them. My mouse is starting to have a few hiccups, left click randomly unmapped itself when I was playing halo, and the scroll button died 3 years ago so I've had to remap it to the 6 key and overall the mouse doesn't start up with windows sometimes. I was gonna buy the same mouse or the updated model so I can use iCue4 cuz mine doesn't support it but considering I don't have many corsair products anymore so this may be my new mouse weighing it WIRELESS!

I've had 3 wireless naga pros now and they get extremely buggy and even briefly stop working all together while using them wireless, which can really mess you up during games. Currently I have to use my naga pro wireless with the wire to keep it stable. I loved the steel series rival 500 mmo mouse but they stopped making it. Steel series' software is way better than razor's, which I find, is kind of bloaty and obnoxious comparatively. The way steel series decided to alternate the raised buttons on this one looks nice too, plus its competitive enough to be considered fps worthy? I'll have to try this out.

No shift button for a second layer of commands for the side buttons is a deal breaker for me. All Logitech would have to do would be release the g600 as wireless and in white again and it would be an instant hit. I buying it to test it out. Can always return it quick and easy at BB. The whole mouse and if I keep it will come down to where my thumb will rest. The way I hold mice or grip. Is finger-tip/claw style and often my thumb can be further forward. All depending on shape of mouse of course. So if my thumb rest on the lower 4 keys in the front. so 1,2,4,5 then it might feel great easy click access and easy to memorize button position.
I mostly would use the first two 1-6 buttons and mouse side wheel clicks. The other buttons would be for "inventory", "map" etc that I don't use often but have ease of access to on mouse.
I love lots of buttons on my mice for any game. It's so convenient to be able to open up stuff in game and assign.
Just playing battlefield you need 6-7 ease of access buttons for guns, equipment and so on.
Anyway, I love buying at BB for ease of return.

Traded my G Pro wireless (which I got for free in a trade) for this mouse as I needed something bigger as I have big hands. Options were the Corsair Ironclaw (but I wanted wireless and I hate the extra buttons that sit next to the left clicks), Razer Deathadder v3 Pro (had a v2 pro and loved it), or the Roccat Kain 200. I saw the Aerox 9 at Best Buy and messed with it and was shockingly surprised how nice it felt. I'm not into MMO games so its a welcome feature that the 12 side buttons are actually stiff so no accidental presses. I love the grip and the feel as I have a resting palm grip. Don't get me wrong, I was worried at first trading one of the best gaming mice in the market for a MMO mouse that I has more features than what I will use but its nice. Recommended for FPS and for big hands. Glad I made the trade!

i got this mouse and its really awkward to hold in comparison to my old razer naga and current logitech g600.
its WAYY too long and MUCH heavier than the naga and slightly more than the g600. *(despite being advertised light weight)*
the side buttons are smaller at the front and bigger in the back, as well as slanted inward from top to bottom making them hard to press while holding normally.
ESPECIALLY when moving the mouse (y'know? the main thing mice are meant to do...)
the honey comb pattern continues to the left and right mouse buttons making it really weird to click, and i would imagine, painful after long use.
i decided to return it after using it for like 40 seconds, its really bad...
    overall just get a g600
