    Thanks for this. I am sure that I will be referring to this again in the future as I just ordered a Bambino Plus last night. I have owned other machines so am familiar with descaling but the the back flow cleaning technique is new to me. Hi, very useful video. I’m in the UK and I have just ventured into the world of espresso. I bought the Bambino plus but found the special grinder rather expensive, perhaps I will progress to that later. Watching other videos, I took their advice and bought a bottomless portafilter, what a mistake that was. After clearing up all the mess from liquid shooting out in all directions I went back to the provided portafilter.
    Your explanation of the cleaning and descaling processes are by far the best I have seen, and I will no doubt be referring back to this when the time comes. Thanks for your hard work.

    Just want to say your review is by far the best in comparison and because of your excellent work through I'm now much happier in the future use of the Breville Bambino Plus. So take a bow. Also in the near future I shall get their grinder and get back to beans and forget buying ground coffee. Thanks again 😊🤔 Frank

    I noticed that you put in the descale powder and were then trying to mix it with a large spoon or something. My suggestion is to put the descale powder in a separate cup or bowl, mix it in a cup or 2 of water and then pour that in the water reservoir. This way you would not have to use the spoon and it would have mixed in perfectly.

    it was a great help watching your video. I used to drink “la llave” pre ground coffee. Is it fine to use a pre ground coffee or do you recommend to buy a grinder? which coffee grains are better to use? Thank you so much for your support! Blessings!

    • @TheHappyKitchenChannel
      @TheHappyKitchenChannel  2 месяца назад

      Hi there! Sorry I missed your comment. I used pre ground for a long time before we purchased a grinder. Meaning I would buy coffee at the store and use their grinder in store. Grind the entire bag to an espresso fineness. It was totally fine. However I did see a big improvement in the quality of shots when we started to buy fresher coffee and also starter grinding it right before we were going to pull the shot. The fresher the coffee the better shot you’ll get. If you can buy coffee with a roasted date printed on it. Our Costco sells a locally roasted coffee that’s amazing and a much better price because it’s in bulk! Hope this helps and thank you for watching !

      A lot of this has to do with the basket she is using as well. The dual wall, and it’s pressurized. It’s why she’s able to get away with such a light tamp and a seemingly rather course looking grind to my eyes.
      Not to say she’s doing a bad job or anything. She clearly has more knowledge than like 95% of people if we’re being completely honest.

    • @TheHappyKitchenChannel
      @TheHappyKitchenChannel  3 года назад +1

      Hi there! Thank you for watching! We make americanos every day. We do iced normally but also will make hot ones. For iced we brew our espresso into our cup, add ice and water. But for hot we take the step of heating water in our kettle on the stove. I start that first and usually doesn’t take too long. I had a comment on here about how to brew hot water directly from the bambino but it didn’t work for me. That’d be an excellent feature for them to add on in future models!

  • @gagegr
    @gagegr Год назад +4

    You probably want to buy a non insulated basket for your portafilter. You will find an immediate improvement in your espresso, but you might find that you will want to grind your beans a bit finer. Those insulated baskets you are using (per the manual) are only for pre-ground, coarse ground or older coffee. The new machines come with both insulated and non-insulated baskets. Wait til you see your crema on a non-insulated basket!!!
    Thanks for the great video.

  • @buug76

    The grinder at 15 makes coffee coarse perfect for Moka. I usually set it at 5 and 3/4 for medium roast coffe, and 5 1/4 for medium light roasted coffee. I'm curious about the settings of other users

  • @downonthestreet
    @downonthestreet Год назад

    Excellent video - so clear and detailed. The best I've seen. Thank you. I'm on the point of buying a Bambino Plus, but I have seen some complaints on online customer reviews that the machine does not produce coffee that is heated to 200F as specified in the manual. I do like a reasonably hot coffee (not scorching of course, but not luke warm either). Would be most interested to hear from you or other viewers with the BB Plus whether this too-low temperature claim is valid or not.
    I'm actually thinking of going for the Breville Infuser instead, just because it provides the option to change the brew temperature. If it wasn't for this apparent temperature issue, would be happy to go with the BB Plus because where I live Breville offers a 2 year warranty on this, but only 1 year on the Infuser. Cheers!

    • @TheHappyKitchenChannel
      @TheHappyKitchenChannel  Год назад

      I think it produces reasonably hot coffee. I haven’t ever measured it before. But when I do steamed milk for a latte I usually set it to the second hottest setting. And my husband does the hottest. You can change the temp setting that way when steaming milk but the espresso itself you can’t change. For beginners like myself who are interested in an easy to use product that saves money purchasing coffee I love this machine. It’s extremely easy to use. We have had multiple friends purchase a breville because they loved our coffee machine. Some have opted for this one and some have opted for the fancier ones with grinders attached. It depends on what you want out of your machine. If you really want to get into perfecting your espresso I’d go with a higher price point breville. If you want something fool proof and easy I’d go with this one. Thank you for watching!!

    • @downonthestreet

      @@TheHappyKitchenChannel Thanks very much for your response - all makes perfect sense. I have 2 more questions please, if you wouldn't mind answering.
      1. With the Bambino Plus, can you pull an espresso and steam milk at the same time?
      2. Can you pull 2 cups of espresso, 2 shots in each, at the same time?
      Cheers!

    • @TheHappyKitchenChannel
      @TheHappyKitchenChannel  Год назад

      No problem! You can’t steam milk and pull a shot at the same time no. And there is only one spot for a portafilter so you can only pull one at a time. But that’s pretty standard for a home machine I believe.

However, your calculation of savings is kinda flawed but if you adjust for annual vacation when you aren't home, depreciation on the machine of $100 over say 5 years, the cost of descaling tablets and the savings in gas from not actually driving somewhere for your coffee, its still pretty clear that this machine will save you a fortune in time and $$$! ;-)

      Hi there! I use oatly it’s my favorite. Make sure you don’t get the reduced fat one and I usually have good luck with foam. They do have a barista blend that works well but in my opinion it’s about the same and it’s more expensive. I also really love the barista blend oat milk by the brand elmhurst. That one foams really nicely! I have never really been able to do latte art or anything with oat milk but it’s tastes amazing to me and that’s what I focus on. Especially with this beginner friendly machine 😊 hope this helps!

    Great video! Thanks, as I am fairly new to this. I just got the Bambino Pluse today but my portafilter is sooo hard to lock in place and sooooo hard to losen to remove it? It is almost like it is not made to go with the machine. There is no way I could deal with that while the machine is plugged in and has water in it. I have to hold the machine in a headlock and even sometimes I still can't get it in or out. Something is not right. Any ideas?

      Thank you!! Ours was like that too. Maybe not quite that intense. But it does need to be tight for the seal. Ours kind of loosened up a little over time as well. However, if you think it is unusually tight then I would call customer service and talk them through the issue you’re having.

    It looks to me like you are brewing with the dual-wall basket. Those are designed to be used with ready ground coffee which you buy at the shop. As you are using coffee you grind yourself then the single-wall baskets are the way to go.

    Go get a funnel, this will prevent the coffee spill all over during the grinding.
    I spent about 2 months playing around with pressurized baskets before switching it over to non-pressurized basket. With pressurized basket, you can still play it around with the dosage, playing around the manual programming, preset the pre-infusion time and so on.

    1) Love the cleaning part - nice things deserved to be nicely maintained , especially at such a cost of a espresso machine 💰💰
    2) LOVE your calculations of how much it saved you and your family! Savings for the win ✊🏻!
    I do have a question- sometimes I use the 1 shot portafilter cup and as it’s brewing there’s just so much water! Like there’s half a cup of water mixed with the espresso 😰 and a waste of my yummy espresso. Im not pressing the button long, just a quick tap. When I press the 2 shot brew, it comes out perfectly. Is 5e 1 shot just a manual brew while the 2 shot button is auto? Thoughts?

    • @TheHappyKitchenChannel
      @TheHappyKitchenChannel  3 года назад +2

      Thank you so much for watching!! I'm glad you enjoyed!! The one shot should be auto programmed just like the two shot. If there is too much water coming through then maybe the programming is off. I would brew a one shot manually to see if that works just to rule out the one shot button malfunctioning. To do that- insert your portafilter with coffee per usual, then hold the one shot button down for how long you want the pre infusion to happen. Then release and it will brew the shot. The one cup should flash at this point. Then press the one cup button again when your desired amount has come through to stop the water (Page 11 in the manual). If it comes out better then I would reprogram your one shot button timing. Those instructions are right after on page 12. You can mess around with the timing of how you like the one shot by manually brewing a few times, then once you know how many seconds for each section of the brew use those instructions to redo the timing so it will auto brew just by clicking the one shot button. Does that make sense? Please let me know how it goes!! I hope this helps!! Again, so glad you enjoyed!!

      @@TheHappyKitchenChannel Thanks so much for your reply! So you were right, the auto program was weird- I must've reprogrammed it accidentally when I first got it. I tried it again tonight, and was able to program it correctly. The 1 shot now hits exactly at 30 ml and 2 shot hits at 60 ml .

  • @ThorMaxx

    This routine might work for you... but this is hardly a decent shot produced. I counted about 10 seconds to dispense. A decent shot should take between 20-30 seconds including the pre-infusion time. Basically what this means is your grind settings are way to coarse...and your tamp pressure is too light. On the Bambino, tamp as not as important, but if you follow the manual it. Will tell you what to expect from a decent shot and how long it should brew for. Oh and the layer on top of the shot is not called creme...it's called crema.

      Thanks for your feedback! I never claimed to be a professional. It tastes good and I like it this way. The main reason I created this video was to show how to clean the machine since the manual is very misleading. And I am just showcasing that anyone can make great coffee on this machine, even if it isn't textbook perfect. Anyone reading my comment...if you aren't a professional you can still make great tasting coffee! I will continue to learn and improve my coffee skills over time and so can you! I am a professional at drinking coffee though and let me tell ya...even though it is not a textbook perfect shot it still tastes AMAZING and we save a lot of money. Don't let anyone discourage you because you don't know how to brew a perfect shot. You can still do this!!! Todd, I will take your advise and continue to experiment on our beloved Bambino! @@TheHappyKitchenChannel sorry...i didn’t mean to be overly critical. If the coffee is how you like it, then that is great!
