It's like we were meant to be. I just brought out my Breville Bambino from it's box after having received it months ago from my wedding registry. I haven't steamed milk in almost a decade. I can confidently say your tips have me steaming microfoam better than I've ever had even in most of my local cafes. I can't wait to see more videos from you!
As such a passionate and experienced guy - i really like that you aprreciate such a entry level machine and accept that their is a market for those. Most „experts“ in online forums just do trash talk about everything below dual boiler.
Dual Boiler has better thermal stability, better temperature (no swings like with thermoblock), capability of changing temp from 195 to 205, preinfusion control, 90sec shots, etx
I know this is old review but enjoyed it and to be honest glad you pointed out that its not for the snobs..as sometimes like wine, I feel what people say about espresso taste etc is something well beyond what people will normally experience.. I went to a well known coffee house in London to try real espresso to see if I could get the 'chocolate, sweetness etc etc' and nope was sour, all of us were very disappointed. So for me knowing that I can make great tasting espresso with a cheaper machine at home (and coming from a guy like you who knows his stuff) keeps me away from going down that coffee rabbit hole!
I recently purchased my bambino because i was tired of having bad tasting coffee of another generic brand machine. I changed grinding, beans, amout, monitored time of extraction and still bad coffee. I read the reviews and and were good based ob price point. However I could not make one good cup. After seen your video, i frothed the milk BEFORE brewing the coffee and used the frothing milk video you posted and wow you are awesome. THANK YOU. I am a rookie on this no experience whatsoever. Is not that I can make a latte art, which is a nice to have, but my coffee improved so much is unbeleavabke. My husband is not going to believe me. Waiting to keep seen more of you. Now my part is to keep practicing. GBU
I love that you didn't totally knock the cheaper machine. I have a $50 Mr Coffee espresso machine that I got like 5 years ago and have been able to make pretty good latte art with trial and error. Stretching the milk takes a little longer than a fancy machine and you've really got to hold the cup steady and lower it verrry slowly to stretch it (it only has one hole on the steam tip, and the pressure isn't as strong as an expensive machine), but it can be done. I'm really glad I found your channel today because my latte art has really not been very good due to technique. Also I tend to over-stretch, so I will take your tips and tricks for tomorrow when I make a cup. Thanks for the great and thorough videos! I always appreciate a detailed teacher.
Thank you! I've been teaching online classes for Breville and williams sonoma all pandemic. I figured this would be a natural transition since I've been speaking to a camera for a year 😂😂 new to what the youtube community wants, so hopefully videos will improve as I keep doing them

this makes me feel better about my smaller budget for an espresso machine lmao hallelujah i don't need to spend so much just make lattes for myself! thanks lance for this!
I’m definitely a home brewing enthusiast, and this video was great! Thank you for pointing out that it’s a smaller basket & better for those who want more milk-based beverages. 🥛☕️
@@LanceHedrickIs that why my cappuccinos using my Bambino machine always taste so watered down?? Been doing some digging to find out why and came across this video. I've made about 20 cappuccinos so far and they all taste more like milk than coffee or a real cappuccino. I've tried medium dark, dark, and bold coffees and it still comes out tasting weak and plain. I would love some info on what to do about it using this machine. Thanks in advance!
Thank you so much for this video! I just got this machine for my 40th birthday and there seem to be so many reviews for the Bambino Plus and hardly any for the regular Bambino. This was very helpful and informative!!
As I was browsing through the RUclips videos, I ran into your video. You got me hooked because you just tell it like it is without any bull droppings. Thank you for this video I was thinking of getting this one.
I got this two years ago since we are working from home for making latte, I was actually quite impressed by it. I'm no professional, but we have a La Marzocco in the office that I missed a lot, so I at least know what a good machine can do. This is definitely enough for a decent latte.
Watching from the Philippines and just purchased a Breville Pro. Great content with an underrated creator! Super helpful for someone who’s just learned abt coffee researching over the internet (me) - no commercial experience or whatsoever. Will wait for more of your videos as I’m a beginner in coffee making and would want to be educated on how to make a proper latte - i.e. proper espresso extraction and milk steaming, and a lot more abt coffee. Why has Lance only got 8.5K subscribers????? This content is excellent, with great quality videos! Also, I now need to go and buy an espresso machine...
It is not the price or brand of the machine, it is the person who uses the machine that can make the differences in the taste and presentation of the coffee. Thumbs up and sub.
I just find you Lance Hedrick, wow! I'm a humble coffee barista coach to the Deaf students in the Philippines, Valenzuela City, Metro Manila. God bless you!

Great video! I've had this for over a year now (with a non-pressurised basket) and it's awesome, even for straight espressos. The only downside is the small capacity drip tray.
Yeah. Very small capacity. But helps with the tiny footprint. And non pressurized will allow lower pressure shots, which can actually be quite incredible since you can do coarser grinds (high extraction and less channels)
Watched your milk foam video. Your tips made a difference for me and ive been at it 5 yrs at home. This is another interesting and fun informative video and im sure your channel will grow.
This is great. I have loved coffee most of my life. Grew up drinking espresso from a Moka Pot and have been using a pressurized Cuisinart appliance. I'm ready to set up my new BBP and take my espresso to the next level. Thanks for making this information available to the masses.

I love that you used this example specifically because I have the Bambino Plus myself. It was for my first ever venture into espresso, hoping to upgrade soon, I think I'm ready for a big boy machine now 😂
@@LanceHedrick the Bambino does make some excellent lattes, good Americanos, and decent espresso, but like you said to get better espresso and extract the intricate flavors gotta upgrade. And I use a naked portafilter and standard non-pressurized basket, so I can see if there is channeling etc.
Thanks so much! Putting out a latte art tutorial on the matter of hours, so stay tuned! Your milk will be killer on the express! Lovely machine Thanks for watching!
I just uploaded a video on my channel with attempts of using botomless portafilter... disastrous is understatement haha watching your smoothness in doing this makes me jealous please do a bottomless tutorial for this machine!
Thank you! I have this machine and enjoy it. Still learning to dial the right grind. The milk is silky and lovely, but sometimes the thicker creamy is at the top (I do fold it in) but kinda glops out when I'm pouring and trying to practice basic latte art. Any tips? :)
I took a class from Cole McBride years ago and have been practicing since I am getting better at it and recently bought the Ascaso PID dream because I have the Breville Oracle Touch that does everything for me so i cannot use that steam wand manually which is annoying. I am used to the double boiler on that tho so that Single boiler is not really working for me either. Now thinking if i should bite the bullet and get the La Marzocco Linea mini 😖 do you have any thoughts?? Or any video on that? I have been watching your steaming one and latte art one over and over again all this morning!!! You are amazing at explaining thank you so much for sharing. I also roast my own beans at home too with my IKAWA home roaster and I love it. I actually live minutes from the La Marzocco flagship cafe in Seattle so hence another reason why I really want that
Coley cole! Love that guy. Very kind and passionate. And you can manually stean on the oracle touch! Just pull the wand out and it will be manual. I do it all the time at trade shows at the Breville booth. That being said, if you have the means to snag a linea mini, I mean.... Lol! If you want something a bit cheaper that is still incredible, the Lelit Bianca seems to be like crazy good. No direct experience, but friends who swear by it. Believe it is $3k. And you can pressure profile. Linea mini is $5k or so. Anyway, let me know if I can help further!
@@LanceHedrick omg i tried after watching you said that you can just pull the wand out but it wont let me!!!! It keeps on saying that the wand is not in place!!!! I dont know why. Am i doing something wrong?? Cole is very kind but since that time he had moved and I have no one else to take class from. Maybe I should do a zoom class from you and you can tell me what I am doing wrong with my steaming I just do not seem to get it right after all these years of practicing almost every single day!! Do you have direct experience with the Linea? If i were to spend again I want to get one more and that will be it for me if you know what I mean. Dont want to crowd your comments here do you have an email so that I can email you instead? Or maybe I will message you on IG. Sorry to be this lengthy but I watch soooo many youtube and you really do a great job and very inspiring, very generous of you to share such in depth details with us. Thank you 🙏
Bro your videos are excellent! I have had a krups 6040 XP for about 7 years and still can not perfect the latte art! Some people have that talent and I don’t have it! Thanks for the videos
You can do it! Don't give up! Seriously. You'll get it down with proper practice and a better understanding. Follow my milk steaming guide and latte art basics and you'll get there.
Love this video! I’ve bought a Bambino Plus a couple of months the ago. While I don’t desire to become any type of barista, it just makes me feel good about what I’ve bought and knowing the possibilities. I do plan to order a bottomless portafilter since mine did come with the non-pressurized baskets.😊
This is a really great review, you explain everything well and don’t assume we all know what all the parts are for and why they are made the way they are. You’ve got yourself a new subscriber.
Just bought a Bambino based on your review. Now I'm thinking about getting your signature portafilter! You should spotlight your new products some more.
Hey Lance, I can see how quickly you've improved the quality of your videos. So great! And your presence on the video is amazing. My new favourite coffee youtuber! (sorry James Hoffman)
Great video. I bought the Bambino Plus about a year ago, so I could gauge whether making home espresso was actually worth it. and something I wanted to pursue. Before that I was strictly V60/Chemex/Aeropress (I still love these too). I love my Bambino, and will be sad to see it go as I am researching what to get next. Anyone contemplating the Bambino - do it. You won't lose a ton of money when you decide to sell (or keep) and upgrade later. Great videos Lance. I'm now trying to digest your fantastic milk stretching video. It definitely hits the spot for me. Thanks!
Haha thank you! Any ideas what machine you'll go to? And latte art basics and espresso dial in are the next videos on the docket! Cheers and thanks for the support and comment
@@LanceHedrick I am looking at Lelit (Mara X, Elizabeth, Bianca). I would ideally like something small footprint, so the Mara ticks that box. There are some good deals in the UK for those. The Mara X is currently £999 in the UK.
I currently own a delonghi ecp 3420. I use unpressurized baskets and a bottomless portafilter but even with the same puck prep i get wildly different extraction times depending on how long it's warmed up. Because of that, I'm looking to upgrade. I know they're not in the same category but am between this and the profitec go. Want something for mostly milk based beverages for 2 people. I enjoy the process of making it. Which do you suggest?
Great video. I have the Bambino plus, and have really enjoyed using it for about two years now. During quarantine I finally started to focus on manual milk steaming. I’m getting decent with milk, I have the texturing down pretty well ( thanks In no small part to your recent video ), but really struggle with actually getting any decent art out of the nice milk that I have made. Will you have a video soon on actually creating hearts or tulips etc.?
I have it too, I have two main struggles: 1) Dialing in specialty coffee (lighter roast especially): comes out sour as hell 2) This probably because of my skills, but I only manage to have good microfoam for one cappuccino at a time only
Excellent video of the bambino! I’ve been comparing this to the B+ and a few other options and this vid really helped answer a lot of my questions about the Bambino. Keep it up!!
I know this is an older video but we bought one a few months ago for $199 and it's been a little workhorse in my house. Wife and kids absolutely love it and it's so consistent. Honestly the lattes and americanos are just as good as a cafe around here that we're saving a bunch of money by making them at home.
Nice channel, good info, I have a Breville Barista Express that I bought last Christmas, I wanted to go higher end machine with a grinder but it was much easier to talk wife into the Express and I make Latte's every morning for Wife and myself, now she is OK with the purchase. I think that getting local roasted coffee makes big difference plus I picked up a 54 mm 18-20 gm basket on Amazon by MacMaxe that holds more coffee than Breville stock basket, it's taken me around 3 month to get it where I pull some great shoots, great machine for beginners. :)
Hello lace! I recently got this machine and I've been using different coffees and grind, tools and stamps and portafilters. I still get sprayed with coffee allover. Any advice on that?
Hi Lance, I just purchased a used Bambino and a refurbished Sette 270 from Baratza. What setting do you prefer on the 270 for a shot in the Bambino (assuming a non-pressurized IMS basket and not the original pressurized basket/portafilter provided with the Bambino)?
BOISTON! Another great vid. I use my Sage Barista Express multiple times a day for lattes, and looking forward to using your advice and tips for creating better drinks! Especially your milk frothing guide!
Hi Lance. Great video. I bought the barista pro porta filter and it fits, however, coffee keeps squirting to the sides. Any tips? Am I doing something wrong?
Dude - You Rock! Democratize good coffee, even on a budge, I love it. And you did all of that in 10 minutes. Well done! I am just getting into this home coffee thing because I now work at home. I don't want to be a barista but I do recognize good coffee due to my travel pre-covid. I am seriously considering this espresso machine. So here is the two-part question. 1) Would I be happy with the results of the coffee (no milk) buying pre-ground coffee and would this machine produce espresso consistently (not the best, just consistent)? 2) If the answer is no, and I need a grinder, is there a grinder that I should buy that meets your same criteria and allows everyone to enjoy coffee affordably. Thank you again - your enthusiasm is contagious.
I recently purchased this machine, I am not sure if it’s because I’m in the EU but mine came with non pressurized baskets as well, I was curious to know how this machine performs with a grinder and the non pressurized one.
Was always impressed by the way you articulate your thoughts about espresso. Didn’t know you had the receipts for dat latte art… damn son!!!!! 😂😂😂 very impressive, Lance! 🙌🏻
I have the dual boiler in my milk steaming video! Give it a watch. Will perfect your milk regardless of machines. And both the pro and dual boiler will make appearances in different videos! I've got a lot of equipment at home 😆😆😆
I was given the Bambino Plus recently, and used your steaming technique video to excellent effect. Thanks for highlighting some of the more entry level stuff in this video. Keep up the educational content!
Love your content! Please do a tutorial/review on the Breville Barista Express. Whenever I do a google search on 'affordable' machines, that always pops up.
Great video! I recently purchased the Bambino but I don’t think Im using it right because my cappuccinos come out weak. Any tips or other videos that can help?
Hi Lance, great vid as always. I know you mentioned and show once in the video but I wanted double check with you. Dose the 54mm barista pro compatible portafilter fit perfectly on bambino? Also do you recommend upgrade from 51mm to 54mm for better results?
stumbled upon your channel and love the content so far! Just bought the Bambino and was hoping to get a decent grinder recommendation! thanks in advance!
Not for espresso, sadly. The grinder is actually more important than the machine. I'd probably advise the Breville as the lowest budget option to get proper espresso. Don't want you to waste your new machine!
Great video. Is this machine still capable of producing good espresso though without milk?? With upgrades such as a good grinder and a nonpressurized portafilter?
Very new to coffee, and bought a Bambino a whim. I'm finding I'm really enjoying it - my plan is to use it for a while (6 mo? year?) and then upgrade to something more 'serious'. I'm trying to stay out of coffee forums due to my hyper-fixation, tendency to dive too deep, too soon and to protect my finances near term. Videos like this one that take an inexpensive machine and treat it seriously have been helpful. Thank you!

Apologies. Thermojet. Mine does too..it has been tested and showed to go from 84C to 102C in massive fluctuations.

Thanks so much! Putting out a latte art tutorial on the matter of hours, so stay tuned!
Your milk will be killer on the express! Lovely machine
Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Most of us aren’t snobs and this will more than do the job!
May I ask how long time you let air in for steaming milk for the breville bambino ?thanks
I just uploaded a video on my channel with attempts of using botomless portafilter... disastrous is understatement haha
watching your smoothness in doing this makes me jealous
please do a bottomless tutorial for this machine!
Absolutely! Thank you for the suggestion! I will do a video on how to distribute and prepare espresso, which I think you'll find super useful
Impressive amount of knowledge in a such short video. Thanks!
Thank you! I hope you found it helpful! More to come
Thank you! I have this machine and enjoy it. Still learning to dial the right grind. The milk is silky and lovely, but sometimes the thicker creamy is at the top (I do fold it in) but kinda glops out when I'm pouring and trying to practice basic latte art. Any tips? :)
I tried your steaming technique today 4 times and it is definitely getting more consistent thanks for your videos extremely helpful!!
Incredible! Let me know if there is anything I can clarify further
Thank you 🙏
Sure! Feel free to email or DM. Email is kylelancehedrick@gmail.com
Thanks Lance. Coffee education, that's what I get from your videos, just as you want it.
Thank you for taking the time to make a super helpful video. I just subscribed as well
Bro your videos are excellent!
Great info, thanks so much for the vid. I got my Bambino for Christmas and am learning to use it. I love it!
Wonderful! Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you for these videos, really enjoying the content and learning a lot everyday!
Thank you so much! Truly means a lot
Keep going - I have binge your channel haha. Honestly the best explanation on coffee and late art!
Thank you so much! Will do. Filming again Thursday for a hopeful Friday release 🤗
Great review, and espresso lesson/teachings. Thanks!
Thank you so much!
First time watching your videos, really looking forward to the next one. Awesome work sir!
Thank you so much! Really appreciate it. Espresso dial in and latte art soon!
This is a really great review, you explain everything well and don’t assume we all know what all the parts are for and why they are made the way they are. You’ve got yourself a new subscriber.
Thank you! Means a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed the review!
I’ve ordered this machine and in the Uk it comes with 4 baskets. 2 sized pressurised and 2 size non pressurised. Can’t wait to use it
Oh wow! That rocks. Use the non pressurized, for sure
Just bought a Bambino based on your review. Now I'm thinking about getting your signature portafilter! You should spotlight your new products some more.
Thank you! I will need to do that. Appreciate you support!
Oh nice! Very good price. I do like that Bianca tho 😍 in any case, sounds like it'll be a fun upgrade!
@@LanceHedrick I like the Bianca too! Pricey....
Haha yes. Yes it is. But you get to have some pressure profiling fun 🤗
Very nice video: to the point, no non-sense and actionable. I am convinced and bought one.
Love that. Appreciate your comment and view! Cheers
Thanks I just bought one and makes me happy to know I made a good choice!
Heck yeah! It's a solid little machine, for sure!
Yes! Filming latte art basics next week! Be on the lookout 👀👀👀
I have it too, I have two main struggles:
1) Dialing in specialty coffee (lighter roast especially): comes out sour as hell
2) This probably because of my skills, but I only manage to have good microfoam for one cappuccino at a time only
Excellent video of the bambino! I’ve been comparing this to the B+ and a few other options and this vid really helped answer a lot of my questions about the Bambino. Keep it up!!
Awesome! So glad you enjoyed it!
How did you know when to stop the espresso extraction? ❤
Brilliant content Lance! Can’t wait to see more of your videos.
Thank you so much! Espresso dial in and latte art basics coming soon!
I know this is an older video but we bought one a few months ago for $199 and it's been a little workhorse in my house. Wife and kids absolutely love it and it's so consistent. Honestly the lattes and americanos are just as good as a cafe around here that we're saving a bunch of money by making them at home.
Hi. Where did you get it for $199?
Where did you find it at that price?
MORE SOUND EFFECTS YEAH BABEY!!
Hahaha! Will keep in mind for future vids 🤣 appreciate you watching!
Another great video Lance! Look forward to the channel growing and the content.
Appreciate that! How to dial in espresso and latte art basics are up next! 🤗
Fantastic! And I agree. It is a solid machine for a good price. Thanks for commenting and watching!
@@LanceHedrickGreat video. Is the Bambino like an Express but without the grinder (in terms of quality)?
Not quite, no. The infuser is like the express with no grinder. The bambino is closer, tho not the same, to the pro with no grinder.
Hello lace! I recently got this machine and I've been using different coffees and grind, tools and stamps and portafilters. I still get sprayed with coffee allover. Any advice on that?
Thanks for the vid Lance. Love these reviews. Good luck with the big move!
thank you so much!
Love *short, rapid, breathy* it!
Love your videos, great explanations, thanks !
Thank you! Really appreciate the kindness. More to come 👀
Excellent content! Subscribed and actually bought Bambino Plus. Hope to learn a lot of stuff from you, man.
Awesome! Thanks for the support!
I'm sold! BTW, I love your sound effects! LOL
Hahaha! Thank you! So happy you enjoyed the video
Great video!! I hope you cover other breville lines like the pro and dual boiler
I have the dual boiler in my milk steaming video! Give it a watch. Will perfect your milk regardless of machines. And both the pro and dual boiler will make appearances in different videos! I've got a lot of equipment at home 😆😆😆
@@LanceHedrick Omg! I just realized that was the dual boiler. Idk why i saw the pressure gauge and assumed it was the express 🙈🙈
Hahaha you're good! No worries. Thanks for watching! Going to be doing espresso dial in and latte art basics soon!
I was given the Bambino Plus recently, and used your steaming technique video to excellent effect. Thanks for highlighting some of the more entry level stuff in this video. Keep up the educational content!
Heck yeah! I LOVE hearing this! Thank you for taking the time to drop the note. Latte Art and espresso dial in vids coming soon!
Love your content!
Please do a tutorial/review on the Breville Barista Express. Whenever I do a google search on 'affordable' machines, that always pops up.
Lance, what dose do you typically use with the Breville 54mm double shot basket?
Great video! I recently purchased the Bambino but I don’t think Im using it right because my cappuccinos come out weak. Any tips or other videos that can help?
Will any 54mm portafilter work or should it be Breville brand? Also will a bottomless filter be an upgrade on this machine?
This is what I was looking for, thank you bro.
Incredible! Stoked you enjoyed it! Espresso dial in and latte art basics coming up!
I'll be following that you do bro, ty
Absolutely! Thanks so much for the view and comment, friend 🙏🏻
Hi Lance, great vid as always. I know you mentioned and show once in the video but I wanted double check with you. Dose the 54mm barista pro compatible portafilter fit perfectly on bambino? Also do you recommend upgrade from 51mm to 54mm for better results?
Thank you Lance. It was very helpful for my decision. . . .
I loveeeee lattes and have the express but I don’t mind switching. Do you think another brand, the express, or bambino with a decent grinder ? ❤
stumbled upon your channel and love the content so far! Just bought the Bambino and was hoping to get a decent grinder recommendation! thanks in advance!
Absolutely! You have a budget in mind? The Breville grinder does quite a solid job and is under $200!
@@LanceHedrick thanks for the reply! i’m still new to things and don’t want to dive in too deep. anything worth buying for under $100?
Not for espresso, sadly. The grinder is actually more important than the machine. I'd probably advise the Breville as the lowest budget option to get proper espresso. Don't want you to waste your new machine!
Great video. Is this machine still capable of producing good espresso though without milk?? With upgrades such as a good grinder and a nonpressurized portafilter?
So helpful! Thank you! Just bought this machine and trying to improve my latte skills lol
Really appreciate your knowledge. Thanks for bringing it.
Thank you so much for watching it!
Thank you!
