Video Summary:
00:00 Introduction
The Upmann Magnum 54 was reviewed using the Bespoke Unit Cigar Formula, a quantifiable review matrix. Furthermore, the cigars have been stored in a Boveda acrylic humidor with 65% Boveda packs for a period of three weeks to ensure that they were properly acclimated and ready to be evaluated.
01:05 Cigar Overview
Released in 2016, the 54 is the newest addition to the Magnum range following the 46, 50, and 48. It is made using the characteristic entubado style. As it's a Cuban puro, it is only made from tobacco sourced from Vuelta Abajo in Pinar del Rio.
02:03 Look & Feel
The Magnum 54 features a firm spring and a straight roll. Its dry clay hue features a mildly oily sheen. Meanwhile, it delivers notes of manure, hay, and cinnamon.
02:41 Prelight
In the prelight, the Magnum 54 reveals notes of metallic chervil, zesty grapefruit, and cinnamon. The dry draw is a little tight but it can be massaged open.
03:21 Tasting Notes
The first third produces notes of peanut, anise, and terracotta. Meanwhile, the second third develops cashew nut, nutmeg, and black pepper. Finally, the last third offers coffee grounds, cacao nib, and mustard.
While quite complex, the mouthfeel is particularly impressive. It offers balanced stimulation but the lifecycle can be regarded as bordering on linear.
08:54 Burn
The Magnum 54 sports an excellent ash throughout the cigar, which holds well and feels solid when removed. The cigar is overall cool when smoked and the draw eventually opens up for the smoker.
09:34 Overall Experience
The Magnum 54 sports two bands with the main one for the brand and the second for the range. They're classic and elegant but nothing spectacular. The box is a tubo three-pack, which is modestly styled. In terms of price, expect to pay around $18 per stick. Generally speaking, this is a formal and occasional smoke.
11:46 Pairings
Given its spicy seond third, consider something a like a Bombay mix or even an assortment of chutneys with popadoms. Of course, a mild curry would also be a great choice, too. Meanwhile, a rabbit stew in a mustard sauce would be a French option. As for beverages, a classic añejo rum would be fine. You could consider espresso coffee with a grappa bianca.

Smoked this whilst you did the review and it really made me realise what I was tasting. I’ve just started out so bit of a novice but thanks for this review. It’s broadened my palette!
Very glad to hear this! Part of the reason we review these is indeed so that other may compare their own tasting notes to those we encountered.
Rafael
Thoroughly enjoyed the review. Started recently & friend got me few Cubans, one of which was this Magnum 54 & a #2. What a way to start out, absolutely delicious
Sounds like you've got a great friend, then. We've got a ton more reviews of cigars, both Cuban and non-Cubans, so check those out if you're wanting to expand your knowledge base before expanding the actual collection.

I just had one with my cafe latte this morning and it was delicious. Even though it was relatively young, it was not at all harsh which really lead to an extremely enjoyable hour before heading to the office.
Hard to beat a cuban + coffee, especially before heading in to work.

Great review box of 10 on the way. Haven't had this one yet. Great vitola. Looking forward to it. Thanks for the great reviews.
Many thanks! Let us know how you like it once the box lands.
Regards,
Rafael
Your background is so retro, like 90s UK decor it brings back good memories
CP lives in the French countryside! So that's what you're seeing here - not too far from your guess, though.
Rafael
Great video CP! Great review.
Thanks, much appreciated!
Hey. Great review, cool room, keep them coming
Thanks!
Excellent review! I love these cigars. So moreish. As you discerned very nutty. I find them to have similar bready/toasty notes. Cheers from oz
Thanks for sharing!
Great presentation and review bro
Very through
Keep it up
Blessings
Have a wonderful life
Many thanks!
Best,
Rafael
Hello honest question…How many cigars a day is too many? Thank you 🙏
That's a tough question! There's really no limit? Who's to say how much is too much? Surely there's a point, but I believe it's more of a personal limit. If it ever starts affecting your regular life, then maybe that's the time when you should consider cutting back.

Haha someone used a cedar spill to light this cigar up. One can tell because those fluffy lighter-than-air ashes it produces flew right into your hair CP haha Nevertheless, great review, as always!
Haha, those are just grey hairs, sadly! But yes, I always light the cigars up with cedar spills. I imagine that you noticed in the intro!
@@Bespokeunit Oh haha I was 100% sure those were cedar ashes! Use that excuse next time someone in your entourage points out the grey hair! Hehe Those little fluffy ashes go everywhere every time I light a cigar with a cedar spill. It's impossible to contain 'em lol
Love from India ❤️😊😎
Thanks!
Good Rh (65) for non wood. I tried 62. Cigars went too dry.
I agree. 62% is generally too low for my taste, too.
Hear in the uk their £150 gbp for pack of 3 tubos 😢still great stick tho
Some of the most outrageous cuban cigar price anecdotes come out of the UK, and that one falls right in line.
Rafael
you like the 54 better than the 50?
We've only tried the 54 so far, so can't really speak to distinct differences between the two.
Rafael
This cigar should be kept in a wooden humidor for several months then you can smoke it. Try it you will have a great experience smoking it.
I have one left and that's exactly what I'll be doing! Thanks for the input!
Dry terracotta earth ? Wow!
It's a wonderful note!
I have smoked a 1 meter cigar
I'm impressed!
cigars do not like light ,..that storage container is not a good idea
Agreed that it's not a great container for well-lit rooms, but many folks keep their cigars in a sort of "man cave", in which case this humidor is fine.
Rafael
Выкурил такую: подарок жены. Ничего особенного. Нет глубины и насыщенности аромата. Камачо интереснее!
Did he say the aroma he gets from it is MANURE(2:28)?
Don't be shocked because that's really not an unusual note used to describe a cigar. It's usually just referred to as "barnyard" so people don't react the way you just did!
