If America can be proud of anything it is the musical talent she has in abundance and of such variation and style. Bluegrass is one of the world's most beautiful yet underappreciated genres of music and should take centre stage internationally more often. Thank you USA

This song tells a story from the sixteenth century. These are real people ralph and patty are singing about and you can feel it in the way they performed it.

This is the real music of America. Bluegrass elevates old time ballads that have existed for hundreds of years and added flesh and blood and bone to them. It gives me a natural high to listen to it every time.
that is because it is a much older song, that eventually became an Appalachian folk song. It's been 'bluegrassified' here. I actually prefer the more traditional rendition of the song for that reason, there is a disconnect between the feel of the rhythm/embellishments, and the content of lyrics. This is pretty great though.
That's because it's a white man's Soul Music..my dad played bluegrass all his life..I grew up back stage at the old Grand Opray..Rahlp Stanley is my great uncle. My grandmas Brother..I had no choice but to love it.
Dr. Ralph Stanley is a priceless treasure to all of us fans of Bluegrass music! And his band is great, awesome fiddle work by James Price! Patty is just excellent in this performance; Bluegrass is her REAL forte! Love this great performance! :)
That note at 2:46 always gives me chills, and just look at the look Stanley gives her when she pins the tail on it at the end...I think it lasts for a full 4 measures before she lets it go...Awesome!
This is about as good as it gets.....thank you Jesus for pulling me out of the mire, that I now have a chance to listen to beautiful music and appreciate life.
Patty is here, paying the utmost respect to a true legend. I wonder if she knows that she's a legend herself. Damn, when she held that note, I almost fell out of my chair, and the look on Mr. Stanley's face was priceless. This video, along with the Patty Loveless/Ricky Scaggs video of Daniel Prayed, are just two good reasons why Ms. Loveless is THE best country singer of her generation ... or any generation. This lady is truly something special.
