    This could be a good time to remind some of the deck and interior department that the engineers (more specifically on larger yachts) are engineering officers. Just like the Officer Of The Watch OOW that the deck have, they also have Engineering Officer Of The Watch licenses.

    Marine engineering is a very tough vocation. To get from cadet engineer to Chief Engineer takes a very long time and hard work. Accidents happen quite often and engine room/pump room environment is terrible - noisy, dirty and hot. Many gave up once they decided to get married and will look for lower paying jobs on land. Better to study conventional engineering, not marine engineering. Travelling on the sea is fun when you are 21 years old but you get homesick soon.

    If I was building my own yacht, I would most emphatically have a private cabin for the chiel engineer. You want your engineer to be as pampered as the captain in that regard IMO. You want your engineer married to your ship. Give them no reason to leave.

    Just wondering with regards to safe manning and a private yacht not engaged in trade? Would this vessel be subject MLC 2006? If so would it be dependant upon Flag who regulates the safe operation of the ship. From what I gather Class can carry out surveys on yachts on behalf of Flag but not vice versa.

    Why do engineers typically come from the depth department and not the steward's department?
    And would it be different for someone who comes in with a degree in say diesel engine engineering?

    How did you get on with the Raffle of the charter on your previous boat? How much money did you make out of it?

      The winner won a cash prize, If I remember he was from either Norway or Denmark. I made a total of $0 from the competition. The real goal of the competition was to give the average person the opportunity to experience a week on a superyacht.

      @@SuperYachtCaptaingot you. I remember looking at the amount of tickets you wished to sell at the price and comparing it to the weekly charter fee, food and costs. You would have had a huge overlay if you sold all the tickets.

    Can you discuss medical insurance. You go to a lot of different countries. I am American so we dont get anything from the government. Does the NHS cover you overseas?

    • @thomasdalton1508
      @thomasdalton1508 7 месяцев назад +1

      The NHS isn't an insurance-based system. The NHS owns the hospitals and employs the doctors and nurses directly. That means the NHS only covers treatment in the UK, since that's where the hospitals are. As long as you are resident in the UK, you'll be covered even if you spend most of your time outside the country, but you'll have to go back to the UK if you need any treatment. British people need insurance when they are outside the country to cover any emergencies. I imagine that's provided as part of your compensation package, but I don't know that.

    Just a suggestion for a video ... After you do the Chef / Steward video maybe do one on total crew costs for various sized vessels explaining how many are in a crew of various sized yachts . What was the total crew salary cost for all crew on the AWOL size vessel etc.

    Hey just wondering. The pay mentioned for the various crew positions. How does rotational periods affect them. I know crew get time offf, but is that period time off the yacht paid? How does the flag state effect yacht crew pay?

    They deserve every penny…and if we start seeing nuclear powered yachts…salaries will jump to a significant degree because of the extra training required…I could see Thorium powered yachts soon…
