Crossing the Pacific once, I woke up to find a sailboat right in the middle of our formation, between us and the carrier. Must have been a bit of a shock for them to wake up surrounded by a half dozen warships.
The Japanese vessels weren't worried probably because they saw which vessel it was and are big fans of the channel. Knew the Captain was one sharp mariner.
Hey Alejandro (I think that's right). You really had the perfect conditions, it looks stunning. I'm loving the new boat experience, feels like a really personal and relaxed yet informative.
A beautiful cruise that shows why yachting is so wonderful. I would tease a fair weather Captain but my sea sick prone daughter truly appreciates a Master who carefully plans their voyages.
I have a friend who is retired from the US Navy and was a certified conning officer on a aircraft carrier. His challenge wqas " chasing the wind" to keep the ship in the proper course for aircraft launch and landing.
When I live in Hawaii, I sailed with a friend who kept his boat in Pearl Harbor. Once we were on the way out (under sail), we ended up on the port side of the channel when a destroyer started heading in.... I hailed him requesting a starboard to starboard passing to keep from crossing her bow.. Whomever answered the radio seemed confused. We held course, and everything turned out great! Are you editing your videos? They are really good! The B roll shots are great!
I hope you are getting enough human interaction, comradery and fellowship to create a healthy sustainable environment Thank you again for sharing your experiences and allowing us a look into your world
very unusual to see en route vlogs, usually just a tour of the boat in port. Thanks SYC, please create more of this style of content so we can see how you operate the ships.
Grew up outside Groton CT. Prior to 9/11 we used to chase nuclear subs out of port on our little Grady White. Way too shallow for them to dive. The wake from one of those beasts is something to behold.
Hi to Ali. That was a lovely trip and love the drone shots. It would be a great to do a bit of training with the coastguard/navy. That is a lovely final destination.
Great passage and video, thank you for taking us along. It must be something to be alone in the wheel house at night with just your vessel and listening to the water..... Do you use technology to video with your family back home when you are on the water? Thank you for sharing your adventures and expertise with us.
@Super Yacht Captain For the Murphy Engine monitor brightness control - hit the bottom round middle button for "USER SETTINGS" Brightness and Contrast are right there.
The Mediterranean Sea is clean and very blue. It used to be quite murky but it all changed with the construction of the Aswan dam which holds back the massive yearly outflow of sediment.
The engine displays look like Jardum PV480 But seems to be a generic display as it's also available from "Enovation controls" as the 'Powerview 480' or 'Powerview 485' The 485 has a day/night mode accessed in the settings menu. But it will depend what software you are running probably.
Very true, Fishing Captains, Military Captains and Merchant Captains do not have the luxury of being 'fair weather' sailors, fish, operational requirements and delivery schedules do not stick the weather forecasts.
Must be interesting to move in so close to another yacht! The water was beautiful and I also enjoy the water at night. It hard to put into words the feeling of nothingness but beauty at the same time.
I’m very surprised that the Japanese Navy didn’t ask you to alter course. I was on a dive boat recently and got close to HMS Dragon and it was made very clear to our skipper where we had to go!
hello Alejandro! hello Captain! how are you doing? Christian that was a real fun video. I enjoyed it. I’m really glad to see you back on running ships again. I wish I didn’t have anything tie me down. I’d love to come and help. I guess you probably can’t do that these days like the old days cause you have to be current on new certifications and all that stuff. I guess maybe I should’ve kept my Masters ticket current under the US Coast Guard. oh well, I say that every time I watch some of your videos. Looking forward to the next one take care and thank you. Great video.
Seeing you sail across the wide open seas it dawns on me I could never do this! The reason, I can't be armed to the teeth for defense if the time arises. An attack will likely never occur, but I'd be uncomfortable knowing I have no defense, not even one gun! 👍😎✌🗽
Loving the new ship, I know you have answered this question before, or maybe not. But I was wondering the number of crew and their positions thank you.
Waterproof Speaker - you need a Altec Lansing Lifejacket bluetooth speaker. 10 Hours play time per charge, great quality sound for a smaller speaker. Waterproof, Shockproof and Floats! Just replaced the battery in mine after about 7 years of use. I think the "Jolt" model would fit well - a bit more power but still very easy to carry.
5:50 you and watch officer playing chess sitting on the sopha. was it underway and thus with no lookout at 11 knots speed or that was just a fragment from another video being anchored or alongside?
Wow, awesome vlog... btw di your radar detected the navy ships or did they suddenly pop up in front of you?... 😁 Looking forward to the next adventure. 😊👍🙏
Not to contradict, but I've been ordered out to sea with the onset of a cyclone. Different to cruising, this was offshore work. It was a sick it up buttercup. Ride it out the best you can.

Hello there! Thank you for all the valuable information, great images/videos and teachings, a question, what is the hull speed in Espiritu Santo? Your over 10 knots speed "seems" a bit high without knowing what I am asking about, keep the videos coming!! Thank you in advance, kindest regards.
The Japanese are working with us, the US. I thought they were in the Red Sea protecting merchant vessels from the hootees. I don't remember the correct spelling. 😮 Where to next? Back to Palermo? Did you go ashore and do any filming? Hello to Alejandro. Ciao.😊😊
I've heard about the night sky at sea, but I've never seen it. I have seen the night sky in the mountains at about 6,000 feet (1800 meters) and in the desert at about 3,000 feet (900 meters), but it can't be the same as at sea with nothing interrupting the horizon.
