I'm so sad this isn't coming to the US. Understandable though, with so many mouth-breathers buying trucks and suvs that are much bigger than they need. There isn't much of a market here for it. But, dang. the way Matt talks about this car makes it sound like one of those rare initially affordable cars that become instant classic and almost disappears within a year because of rarity and people's obsession with them. If I could afford to get one of these GR Yaris sent over the pond to the states, I would in a heartbeat.
Not sure it will. In baring in mind in most countries petrol cars are going to be banned by 2030 (first hand market) so there will be no desire for them. Plus a 3 cylinder yaris, no matter how special, isn't anything to shout about. Its not like the 1M or a honda s2000, something special and kinda cool. I also predict not many of these will actually sell. People said the hyundai I30n would sell but when have you seen one of them on the road? Ultimately this basically is the same price as a golf gti but not as refined or user friendly
Not true, Mk8 GTI, Civic Type R, Megane RS, Focus ST, i30N, all are available with manuals. Also, Hyundai just launched an i20N, manual as well. The manual hot hatch is here to stay, until the world is highly electrified. Even then, you could be allowed. In fact, If I’m gonna be allowed one ICE car in the future, it will be a hot hatch or a hot saloon, not a supercar because I can realistically enjoy it on the road. No worries of reaching the speed limit in 2nd gear.
I personally love the 996. It's one of my favorite Porsche models ever created, but I fully encourage you to sell it and buy this masterpiece of a car. It is simply incredible!

Depending on where you get it, the Japanese version actually putting out 272hp, while the one in Europe sadly got reduced a bit to 256-261hp since they have to meet emissions regulations there.
Hope Mat’s having a better time with ‘his’ GR Yaris High Performance than I had with mine. Whereas the other two cars in my garage - the latest versions of Mini Cooper and Camaro 2SS - are a true joy on the Nordschleife at Nürburgring, I soon got bored of the overly 4WD-ish road feel, but perhaps a 2WD will always have better feedback through the steering and chassis. Not even Swedish gravel roads were much fun. Last but not least, what were they thinking of when putting all these panicky warnings from assistants and sensors into a fun hatch😱 … and forgetting giving the 6th gear a ratio that you can actually use on the motorways between your special stages/race tracks: this 1.6 L consumed more than my Camaro’s 6.2 L at speeds above 110 km/h (and only 98 Octane as opposed to the 95 that works for most new sports cars). It beggars belief. Anyways, I sold if after 8,000 km and less than half a year: a webuyanycar-rival paid €810 MORE than what a new one costs, so I guess I can’t complain 😊

Never thought I’d encourage someone to ditch a Porsche in favour of a Yaris, but the heart wants what the heart wants! 👍🏻
It’s so good to see Toyota making cars they can be proud of again. The 90s heydays will never be replicated, but this is a step in the right direction.
Top review mate.
Gt86, supra and now this. Toyota is going back to the golden era of japanese sports cars. (Ok, the supra can be a little disappointing because "iT's A BmW" and it doesn't come with a manual, and the design is a bit off, but it is a lot better than the a90 and it's a true and fast sports car.)
Imagine how good that car is if he really consider selling a Porsche for that...
Imagine how much support he’ll get from Toyota for saying it. 🙄
@@BikingChap Not much. They don’t have to support anyone to sell cars, unlike the Germans.
Well... we're talking about an old 996 here 😅
The car is nowhere near as good as a Porsche. Anybody who is that stupid will almost certainly regret the selling the Porsche.
Naturally aspirated Porsche cars are going to start to become very expensive over the next few years as their supply starts to dry up.
Toyota can build a world beating car when they feel like it

@R A suuuure I will. I'll take your advise into account !
I am genuinely going to consider buying this car. Definitely one of the last manual hot hatchbacks that will be worth a fortune in 20 years
Hmm in 20 years all cars Will have like 300hp
Not sure it will. In baring in mind in most countries petrol cars are going to be banned by 2030 (first hand market) so there will be no desire for them. Plus a 3 cylinder yaris, no matter how special, isn't anything to shout about. Its not like the 1M or a honda s2000, something special and kinda cool. I also predict not many of these will actually sell. People said the hyundai I30n would sell but when have you seen one of them on the road? Ultimately this basically is the same price as a golf gti but not as refined or user friendly
@@wezelhond5572 And? Nothing whatsoever to do with BHP figures
