Hi, I tested the Yaris GR in Poland and in city traffic I noticed a problem with slow reaction to gas from idle when the car was stationary. It prevents joining traffic and turning at intersections because you either have to move very slowly or too fast. Have you noticed such a feature during the test?

Not to worry; though we won’t be getting this specific little pocket rocket, Toyota has promised that we too will be getting a hatchback power by the same engine. That of course means it’ll probably be in the form of a Corolla, which we hope will be available then in a hatchback. Being a bigger car it’ll probably be slower, but by then there would be enough aftermarket support for the engine to make good power, at least, the way I see it. We can all hope and dream that maybe, just maybe, we’ll also get it in AWD instead of the standard FWD.
This might just be my perfect car. Narrow for the little highland roads, 4wd for the shitty weather, light, fast, fun, simple, engaging. It really is a GC8 impreza reincarnate!

His upper body is normal, it is the legs that makes him tall. Good to know for long legged people.
@@Franzino the Alpine has way more space (not storage space) than it looks from the outside. I was never able to fit in a Mazda MX5/Miata, even less so in the Alfa 4C, the Alpine on the other hand is big enough that i can see the road from the drivers seat. So i can't see why he wouldn't fit inside the A110.
Henry is an absolute gem of a presenter. His enthusiasm and style of delivery to camera, is priceless. He keeps it fun and interesting throughout especially with the ‘trips down memory lane with the Rally/wrc’ story keeping the story alive. Also the camera work isn’t bad either. Fantastic job as always at @carfectionfilms
This is literally my dream car right now
ive held out getting a new car since my first a diesel manual. granted i have a 2020 outlander i daily but its not really my personal and paid for car. ive always wanted a true old school purist car to buy as my very own personal driver, but nothing new felt as good as an old type r, e36 2.8, golf gti, etc. modern manuals are still so disconnected from your feet. i literally made up my mind that my next car will be an ep3 type r until this came along. the red line reminds me of the ej2, the whole three cylinder high revving turbo with a genuine manual plus good old toyota level build quality. im getting this instead for sure. the ep3 type r is lovely but the UK are really being hardasses with older vehicles. this ticks all the boxes and i want it whilst im still young and single. god bless you toyota x
The best GR Yaris video I've seen, and I've seen a few lately. Great detail and beautifully shot as expected from Carfection. Its so nice to see a car company pushing the boat out and creating such an interesting car.
Henry catchpole is a journalist at the very top of his profession. Keep up the good work. Would love to see a feature with this and some homologation specials from the past. Chevette/sunbeam/nova sport/rs1600
Toyota needs to give this to Canada, now. It's so utterly perfect.
Yes I really want one, I'm Canadian
@@TrippingUnicorn They sold 2x amount of expected volume for this year in our country and that is while NO ONE even sat in the car yet. So i doubt they will be entering another markets soon... although i wish you the ability to buy one for sure. It is kind of unique car in 2020.
in India too.
I'm hoping for an AWD GR Corolla hatch, since they at least sell that chassis here. Real shame they didn't release this car in North America though, there's definitely a market for them.
@@dln.sweeney You never know in NA. It is small car with manual transmissions, which is exact opposite of what people buy there (in Europe, we like small cars and Manual). But considering it is limited series i still think they should offer it there, they would sell quite a few for sure :)
Yaris GR is the new BMW 1M, they said the Alpine would make the same impact, but I think the GR will end up being more remarkable.. like the 1M
Toyota are going to make 25,000 though. How many 1M did BMW make? 3000?
@@v4skunk739 They intended for 2700 but made about 6200. I don't think Yaris will retain/ increase its value right from the get-go like the 1M ( since Toyota will continue to make it as long as we buy them ) but it ticks all boxes to be a modern classic.
@@thatcopenguy I agree. But it will hold its value until next batch in 2021. They all sold out already.
No, its a mini GTR 😂
@@v4skunk739 Toyota already announced that they will make more of this car if there enough demand for it, which is honestly really not a bad idea.
As an owner of a rally car road model it is great to see them coming back. To the new generations to enjoy them for years to come, I hope you like it.
Hopefully this GR Yaris will inspire others to make similar cars. Very well crafted video! Fingers crossed it comes to Canada.
Hey, Thanks for the videos. I drove one of these today, I'm a mechanic In a dealer in Australia and we go one in today. Your summary that is 'a fun little car that puts a smile on your face' is spot on. It does have sport and track modes and does sound great in all modes ( where ever that sound is coming from). Coming from another brand its great to see fun little things like this. Regards from Australia.
04:29 Certainly irritating when so many reviews say if a car has Apple Car Play, and then ignores mentioning if a car has Android Auto. Other than that, the only problem is that the GR Yaris is not coming to North America, but perhaps there will be a Corolla version here sometime in the future.
The best automotive journalism on RUclips. Thanks for continuing to pump out consistently fantastic content in what's likely a very difficult environment amid the COVID dynasty.
So happy this has analogue dials. Plus it'll age better
Carfection is the most beautiful and classy car show there is. Thank you guys for being amazing!
11:15 might have looked scary on a different perspective but look at that GR shimmy! I do hope the performance Corolla GR comes true for US.
Man the fact that Toyota is able to make this car is just awesome
This is the attainable dream car
we have come a long way to appreciate the basics
The only person i trust enough to watch their video before considering buying one to get detailed and true information.
Ordered a black one...can't wait for June 2021...it arrives here then.
Me too, but will arrive in January.....👏👏
@@mariobotti1952 You lucky bugger. This will be my third Toyota. I had an 2012 GT86 and Yaris 1.8TS that was eventually modded with a supercharger...I am hoping this GR rekindles the fire on the old Yaris, man I miss that car.
Beautiful cinematography and eloquently delivered as always. A small, relatively light, quick, affordable and, above all, fun car. The rally development doesn’t hurt either. It’s easy to see why it’s grabbed the attention of enthusiasts everywhere. In a world of zillion pound hypercars and when even many sports cars have developed to such a stage that their performance is only exploitable on a track, this looks like the perfect road car for our times. Even the badge isn’t shouty, so captures the zeitgeist. Yep, perfect. Let’s hope we see more of this type of car.
I hope this car has massive sales numbers so more manufacturers start focus on simple fun small cars again
Catchpole, you are by far one of my favourite Automotive Journalists (amongst a few others). Love your work and keep it coming
Who have thought that a Yaris is cooler than a Zupra!? Great video as usual!
There was never a better name for this channel than Carfection.
Best review of GR Yaris so far! Thanks Henry and team for great video. Im glad ive ordered one in standart white with Circuit pack.
when being first to publish is not the goal...as always...carfection is worth waiting for..thank you. and a much more measured response than many other reviews
What a car! So glad Toyota had the balls to make this 👍
Those POV shots at the beginning are just insane! No room AT ALL for error, or it's Goodnight Vienna for an awful lot of people!!!
Superbly purposeful, and looks like a Sith armadillo.
@R A You must be a troll for sure. A roughly 5 second 0-100 is slow for you? From a Yaris? Are you crazy?
@R A there’s always one 🤦🏻
The legendary carfection overdub, there’s nothing like it. Great production values. And the sound of that engine.
This is one of if not the only pocket rockets worth having right now as far as I am concerned. For drivers car enthusiasts anyway.
I am so sold on as a package.
How about the Focus RS and the M2? But yes this is the first car to get up there with those guys.
Would rather have the veloster N DCT so I can have fun, and not kill my foot in traffic
@@TheTemplarnight good to know. however he was talking 'for drivers car enthusiasts' only.
Thanks Henry the best review so far! I expect nothing less from Carfection perfection 👍
To carfection: Is it just me or did Henry sound different in this video?
Great review guys. Keep it coming.
I thought that too. 🤔
Maybe some combination of tired and happy.
Bit nasaly I thought too!
I haven't really had a dream car be released in a long time but man, this for sure is one... What an awesome vehicle, massive props to Toyota!
And so the stereotype 'Yaris is a Grandma car' dies out.
if your grandma is Michèle Mouton then it still checks out i guess
The GR YARIS is what the grandson inherited and put some mods not from eBay

You can be sure the carfection vid will be great when they take their time to post it. As always it is amazing. Great work!
Truly wish we were getting this car in Canada!
That would be the perfect place to own one for sure. No one has explained why North America has been left out. Perhaps it's because the US doesn't buy small cars in general in large enough volumes, that their giving it a miss but it seems unfair to include Canada, if that's the case.
I know, but there are rumours we'll be getting a Corolla with this powertrain. TBD
@@ThePilotGear A 4wd Corolla with this engine would be absolutely SICK, this will bring back the Toyota of the 80s back

Wonderful review Henry and superb editing.
The 15th review I’ve seen and I’m still excited. Great car and a great video as always
Hi Henry. Watched your 981 Cayman GTS video from the Evo days and bought that car. Watched your Alpine A110 video and bought that too. You are expensive to follow. Can this video complete the hattrick?
Ha! Stay tuned for the incoming 992 GT3 😂 congrats for your machines!
Henry, you truly are one of the best car presenters of our time. Appreciate your work!
Hi, I tested the Yaris GR in Poland and in city traffic I noticed a problem with slow reaction to gas from idle when the car was stationary. It prevents joining traffic and turning at intersections because you either have to move very slowly or too fast. Have you noticed such a feature during the test?
Isn't it common with modern cars? A lag to curtail emissions
Heavy flywheel to cater for the torque
@@95lal It's probably not a heavy flywheel because the engine has a balancer shaft.

Engine noise 'Piped through the speakers, I think the term is 'played through the speakers' is correct. The pipe reference is overused/miss used with these systems and comes from when the sound was piped through the cabin.
7:56 - That shot though.
Throwing in a comment after a year-ish of ownership (there was a bit of a wait, and now they're sold out.)
Remains an amazing B road chuckle machine, capable motorway cruiser and perfectly usable as a daily. Gorgeous car.
thanks for such a high quality content.
I've been waiting for this film since I first heard about the car, fantastic filming and commentary as always :D
I need one of these in my life
Of course the cool homologation rally hatch is only being sold on across the pond... Europe gets all the cool rally cars :(
It’s tuff being a rally fan in America
Not to worry; though we won’t be getting this specific little pocket rocket, Toyota has promised that we too will be getting a hatchback power by the same engine. That of course means it’ll probably be in the form of a Corolla, which we hope will be available then in a hatchback. Being a bigger car it’ll probably be slower, but by then there would be enough aftermarket support for the engine to make good power, at least, the way I see it.
We can all hope and dream that maybe, just maybe, we’ll also get it in AWD instead of the standard FWD.
Simply the most exciting, refreshing vehicle to come out in years!
brilliant automotive journalism!
@R A well RA please explain?
Another one for the enthusiast!! A simple car, a basic car, but a brilliant one! Mostly simple everywhere, except under the bonnet.

FINALLY. A proper hot hatch from Toyota.
My dream car has always been an Integrale. Never going to own one but this is the nearest I’ll get. I love how basic the interior is, I love how well thought out it is. I’m putting a deposit down on a low mileage 12 month old example this week. I don’t envisage I’ll ever get rid of it either. Great review
Toyota : Our 3 cylinder is the most powerful 3 cylinder, makes 257 HP.
Koenigsegg : Hold 3 bottles of my 600 HP beer...
I think Toyota do say most powerful mass production engine.
Toyota can claim that because the Gemera hasn't gone into production yet
I mean technically Toyota is producing the most powerful 3cyl IN PRODUCTION, while the Gemera isn't right now.
Anyone notice the unusual movement of the car at 9:57? It appears the car suddenly moved power around, I wonder if there is something unusual with handling due to the short wheelbase?
Nice. It's like the hot Focus, but parts don't start falling off and no blue smoke after a year.
I’m glad you enjoyed it Henry! 😉👍🏼
Unarguably one of the best hot hatches to date.
I've been waiting for your review Henry, you didn't disappoint. Great review, great film, fun looking car. I have to wait until June until mine arrives.
So good to see a proper journalist reviewing it and not some fecking “influencer” in a pair of bad shades and a posh watch.
Kudos to Toyota for making this car. Biggest surprise of 2020, gonna be a classic collectors car in a couple of years for sure.
Should be an example for other car manufacturers that you do not need 500hp in a heavy chassis to have fun.

At high revs the engine really sounds like a small V12 😍 or the speaker part at least 😄
It's a unique sound as there are elements of an uneven cylinder count such as Audi RS engines however also has elements of a six cylinder, I wonder what it sounds like with the speakers disconnected. I'll try pull the fuse out and give it a spin!
Definitely all speakers, there is zero intake and exhaust noise from my experience. It's all artificial.

For those of us of a certain age the Yaris is a definite throwback to the Impreza of the mid-90s with it being based on a dull reliable car but with interesting running gear, and at an affordable price point.
Now if only Toyota would have decided to bring it to the 🇺🇸
