Has to be one of the best B road thrashers ever built. I adore my GR and I didn't think I'd ever utter those words about a Toyota in my lifetime. I'm never getting rid of it. Absolute joy to drive. Thanks for a fantastic video

Strines is where this car really shines, you're going through sections so much quicker than you would in any other sports/supercar, what a little pocket rocket it is.
Absolutely Gee. The speed that this thing can carry in the rougher sections, no other car could come close.

Did my test drive round Strines, Bradfield, Dungworh etc. back end of last year in the slotting down rain. Never put £ down so quickly.

What an awesome little car. Enjoy! We don't get it here in the US but I am not going to complain too much since I was able to get a Honda Civic Type R. I for one say get these cars while you can and enjoy them because being on the eve of the all electric future means cars like these with 3 pedals with a 6 speed manual are going to become more and more rare.

You are right Jonty, I own one of these little rockets and not happy with gears/clutch. 1st to 6th gear ratio is perfect, the stick is great, could be a bit shorter, clutch seems to be right for me. But you dont get that conection you get with other cars.

I use to think the same about the gearbox, always crunching gears in mine, made me question my driving ability, but as times gone on, 17k later, it’s perfect, slots in easy, precise, with loads of feel still, and no crunching.
I like it allot. One of my favorite cars to bash in and daily drive.
I think I would go with the Lotus if I had to choose only 1, but I really do like how that Yaris GR came out.

This Yaris by a mile best small car on the road, even normal Yaris undoubtedly best looking small car right now, different buying one of these, you're buying reliability unlike most other stuff.

Turbo engines that sound good...try the fiat coupe 20vt for a great almost old school ur Audi Quattro man....great video Jonny!
Why do people keep complaining about the amplified engine sound when Toyota offers for free to deactivate the system and even turn on ANC? By the way, having tested in all 3 modes, the amplification is actually quite minimal with only around 1-2 decibels tops in difference. It’s quite difficult sometimes to notice the difference.
Agreed. Not a fan of fake noise. Just get a new exhaust and remove the fake sound
I have one and adore it.
First mod: get a Cusco pedal - makes heel and toe easy.
Second: exhaust and turn off fake noise with Carista.
Seat: Recaro CS
Makes this thing awesome
We've lowered the driver's seat in ours, makes a big difference!

@@mannysingh6618 very easily - quite a few companies offer the option to lower the seat as much as 60mm. Not that it need's it imo

Got a Scarlet Flare CP as well 👍 HKS Legamax exhaust currently en route from JPN to give it a little bit of extra sound without sounding chavvy hopefully.

How the hell can you say turbo cars don’t sound good ? Volvo 5 cylinder turbo? Volvo b230ft ? Sr20? Rb26 ? Turbo miata ? Turbo e36 ? All amazing sounding cars !!

Considered buying a GR Yaris myself but didn't even test drive one. I was scared that it would sway me away from the hankering I had for a BMW 1M.
Nothing quite rivals a 1M however don’t overlook the Yaris 🙌

@@scd don't get me wrong. I just found it interesting. I've not yet driven the GR, but I've sat in one and stirred the pot. It feels tighter side to side than my ND roadster and the throw felt pretty good.
If i the monies, instead of a lowly ferarri i would buy a yaris. Because toyota is always king.
If the price was 30K, it would have been the perfect sweet spot for those contemplating this over day the MkV Supra.
Top Tip...Always press the traction control button off when you are a car tester and/or want to crash into a tree......

The only video I have ever seen where the driver says its like a normal yaris but faster. Literally every other reviewer says its nothing like the normal yaris.
It may drive well....but I simply don't like hatchbacks! Well, apart from the Brera!
Can't knock a fast hatch though! This Yaris will eat most supercars on a UK road.

I am tired of this "its just a yaris" its only similarities with the regular car is the name and front and rear lights. A normal Yaris doesn't have a 260bhp engine, variable four wheel drive, front and rear LSD and a body made of aluminium and carbon fibre. And most importantly its not a bonafide WRC homologation special...

Yaris instead of an S2 Exige is a bold move…Yaris doesn’t really have any feel but it is fast
Bit more practical for us too. Jonty didn’t mention that part but there’s a lot of use cases where we wouldn’t use the Lotus

Brilliant car however it's not a wrc car although it's homologation model the real wrc car will share as much with GR as GR shares with normal yaris , I'm ordering one however I know it's not a true wrc car but great all the same

Ace video, but I bet that car was more than 10% over £30k, if list is about £34k for CP / scarlet flare.
At least be honest about that with the wording, as if you had £30k you couldn’t actually buy it! You could buy standard GR in flat white otherwise you’d have to buy a Fiesta ST / i20 if going for a new small hot hatch.
Maybe the question is with a budget of £35k, which isn’t a good of a headline figure and puts it up against the Type R, Megane RS, Golf GTI, i30N.
However really it’s in a category of its own due to its size, 4WD and special background story to match! So is still the one I’d go for, with a Type R a close second (more practical).
I really love the technology behind it. But for me, it looks ugly. Like the WRC-One. Different model with same technology, it would be my dream car
