This is a big mistake and extremely sad. The GS has a huge following.... all they had to do was re-imagine the GS.. not cancel it.
The GS name plate is worth its weight in gold. The car was almost perfect it just needed to be updated. It wasnt selling good not because it was bad it wasn't selling good because Lexus was not on top of keeping the car competitive. The GSF should have come out way before it did

    • @TheShadow941

Kirk, you totally nailed it when you said the GS holds a strong emotional interest. People who have owned a GS develop an emotional bond with the car. I still have my LC but Lexus will not get my daily driver replacement.

A good all-rounder with great reliability. The infotainment setup could have used a rework though. Now I'm not really sure what's out there to get that has that package with the reliability the GS was known for.

I got a low mileage 2006 GS 300 AWD 2 months ago. As I like luxury brands, comfort and quietness, I had 2 Volvos before. The GS does everything the S80 does but better, plus the handling is second to none with the longitudinal layout and the RWD biased AWD. I like the car so much that I was already thinking to the new model I would buy in a few years after saving a bit, then these news came out. The IS/C-Class segment etc. cars are too small for me, and the LS and equivalent way too expensive. The mid-size segment cars are juste perfect, ES not being counted in because it is FWD only. I am really, really sad.

I think I come off too critical for some of the "fan boys" (people) that are usually in your comments but they haven't had anything more exciting than the competition in a while. IMO they should have redesigned the GS and made it look like a 4 door lc500. They have been more than complacent with their SUV's too, not really sure what their engineers do every day

I think part of reason the GS always languished behind the Germans was its lack of providing a "best fit". For starters its styling always seemed a bit bloated... not that it wasn't a handsome and accomplished car in its engineering, but the Mercedes E Class and the BMW 5 Series always had a balance, at their base, which could either go serious (business/affluence spec), or sporty (Avantgarde / M Sport). Furthermore this was achieved with distinct equipment and appearance lines, with different interior trimmings, seat material options, and on the exterior, different bumpers, grills, and wheel options, depending on the line chosen. The GS by comparison always appeared to have one "look", with just a few engine options. The F-Sport packages didn't do enough by way of differentiation, and the halo GS-F seemed half-baked since it couldn't hold a candle to any AMG or M product. So basically, the majority of shoppers out there who may have been tempted to give Lexus a try after they decided to move on from their old Mercedes or Bimmer, would not have found a GS model that ticked all the boxes.

I know I’ve comment on this several times lol But after this, I really hope they uplift the ES to the next level and/or even the IS as well!
    No excuses.

The ES model is their better seller due the luxury styling, and affordability, the GS didn’t sell too well because it’s more money, and it wasn’t anything special over the ES model, Lexus needs to up their exterior designs their 90s vehicles were the best looking luxury brand.

My dream car as a 18 year old was the 2nd Gen Lexus GS. I bought it when I was 19 and fell even more in love with it. I'm 32 now and owned 4 other 2GS. I will forever keep a 2GS. Best car ever.

This hurts my heart so much. I owned a '99 GS 400 and a '07 GS 450h. I would drive those cars on the West Virginia Turnpike like a madman, and they gave me nothing but the confidence and reliability to do so. I really wish Lexus would have updated the powertrain and internals to compete with the Germans. Will never forget those commercials for the Gen 2 that had the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes and the GS out their doin donuts Stock!! I really hope they bring this back at some point because the mass production, family oriented ES will never be the iconic GS. Gonna pour out a lil liquor today...damnit.

Man that's unfortunate. Within 2 months, I recently bought a low miles 2016 GS350 AWD. So far I really love the car. Even though the GS does not have apple or android play, it's still a wonderful car. Lexus should of at least adapt or just remodel the GS. Now I guess I will hold on to my GS for as long as I can.

Ugh. I guess if you want AWD in a mid-sized Lexus sedan people will have to wait for the ES redesign, but there are so many design elements in the GS that I like & wish they would have kept & updated it. Ah, well. I felt the same when they discontinued the SC. My brother-in-law had one and loved it.

2:22 so true. That is the problem with the Lexus brand as a whole. Just letting things be as see what happens. Toyota seems to be constantly evolving but Lexus (especially the F brand) is just left alone. Hopefully the next mirai based sedan will have some GS DNA in it...Be more of a coupe styled GS? Anyway...Sad time for Lexus. Sad sad time.

In 1992, I was still a college student, and was completely enamored by the 1993 GS 300. For me, it truly stood out over the LS, let alone Infinity or Acura models. I was a big fan of the Q45, but once I laid eyes on the GS 300, I was totally hooked as it's lines reminded me of those european cars in the 1960's with similar lines but were in 2 door coupe form,

I always felt like the GS was that halfway point to a Lexus LS from a ES or a IS because it had the same drivetrain as the LS for a long time and you could get that for less than what a LS costed.

Tonight: The three GS killers are still on the loose. They were last seen heading north on HWY 1. They are described to be of German descent. One of the killer was described as classy but elegant and was frequently referred to by others as… Mercedes. As Mercedes raced towards the onramp, she was beaten by the faster, yet sexier killer, Bimmer. We don’t know the identity of the third killer yet but witnesses say she looks a lot like Volkswagen (possibly related)???

    4. 400+hp engine

Need some advise. I haven't seen a single GS F in South Africa, and now I am considering importing (Purely because I want this car and recently came into a little bit of cash). I went through 5 Lexus dealerships in South Africa and none of them can help me buy second hand overseas. Do you know which route I can take, to import a second hand GS F (i.e from Japan as they have right hand drives) into South Africa? Can I go through Lexus or is there another way to do this?
    Thank you in advance.
