  • The Lexus HS 250h was by far the worst-selling Lexus of all time. Several key factors led to the early demise of this hybrid-only Lexus.

Here is my take on this car. I have been driving this amazing car for past 4 years, extremely reliable, 700km in city for 45lters. Honestly not many people know how good this car is, I only bought it because it was Lexus and its amazing ergonomics front panel.
Now I started to feel harder drive in winter than summer, so I am replacing its shocks even though I dont see any oil.
Sometimes people fall for things differently how you market them.
I love this car, its heavy and quality car, not like carola, light weight.
Another big factor in this car, it is the only car which is much higher from ground for a sedan. Comfortable to get in and out. I pay attention to everything

I have owned 2 HS250h’s. The first lasted for 265,000 mile until it was totaled by a drunk driver while parked. I am driving the second HS250h now. It has over a 170,000 miles and except for regular maintenance I have only had to change the passenger front wheel bearing. With both cars, I have averaged over 36 mpg in winter and over 39 in summer. As an Uber driver, this gas mileage has made a positive effect on my profit margin.

My HS250h is now a 10 year old car and still love it. I maintained it since purchased. Always covered every time parked in my driveway. Never have problem since other than the 2 recalls. I just passed 150k and my engine still fresh. I do parked it side by side with 2019 Rx450h and both are worth keeping preciously.

Lexus should bring back the HS to compete in the entry-level compact sedan segment. It would be a good competitor to the Acura ILX , Audi A3, and Mercedes A Class.

No I think Lexus has enough things that need to be worked on. Literally half of the lineup is aged sadly. I still remember 2012 when the 4 GS came and it made the Germans look old as hell. This impression needs to come back.

@@freshklinki93 bruh, that is the dumbest thing I've read. What do they need to work on lol?
You'd prefer Lexus dump the cars that have done so well in favor of new planned-obsolescence model similar to that of GM or Mercedes?
I hope you realise that EVERY manufacturer keeps the car that works/sells well . Mustang, Camaro, M Series etc. All of Toyota's cars work/sell well right now though, so why change? It's not "aged"...

@@callang9 see that, triggered Fanboys like you are the main problem of the Lexus brand. You contribute NOTHING to the brand, you give no feedback, you just like everything they do. Lexus DOESN'T sell well at all! Compare them to the sales numbers of the competition! All models you listed don't sell at all either. They're literally overtaken by Volvo and go the same way as Infiniti. In no single aspect - neither driving performance, driving systems, infotainment, engines, fuel efficiency and comfort - they get close to the competition. Wake the F up. Go to any Mercedes dealer, sit inside an E-Class and lets see if you still see Lexus on top. Do the same on a Genesis dealer, Audi dealer or whatever. What do I - a middle class person - have from cars like the amazing LS and LC? Nothing. (considering they don't sell either). The cars that are actually affordable have no chance in the competition. Lexus' high rise was 8-25 years ago. They're dead.

@@freshklinki93 yeah, I'm not reading all of that lol, it's evident you don't know what you're talking about haha
Lexus literally sold double Volvo last year, and look at Volvo resale prices and cost to own vs Lexus.
Lexus is on a sale decline, but their peak sales was 2015, which was when most manufacturers peaked... every manufacturer has been on the decline since then, even big movers like Mazda.
Lexus was still the 4th highest selling Luxury Brand in 2020, and has been the 2nd highest selling secondary brand (eg Acura, Cadillac, GMC, Lincoln, etc) for years, behind Audi.
And if you're bagging on Lexus' quality compared to other brands, you're really dumb.
I detail cars for a living in a big suburb. I'm inside Audis, Bimmers, Lexus, Mercedes etc all day, and I drive them too. None of their interiors compare to Lexus' except for the true AMGs.
And when lexus decides to release a forced induction V8, I'm sure no BMW/Mercedes will keep up, just like when the released the 2GR-FSE.
Go look at the LC500 and talk about class.

    • @freshklinki93
      @freshklinki93 3 года назад +2

@@callang9 1. While Lexus sells about 750.000 cars in 2020, which yes is more than Volvo with about 600.000, Volvo grows much faster.
      2. Stop using resale value as an argument when it's not. It's dependent on the market and nobody wants a Lexus here in Europe. Hence resale value is not got at all.
      3. I am not talking about the reliability and the quality of the high end models at all. It's the affordable cars that have disappointing interiors. The ES is the best example, worst interior in its class. Cheap scratchy plastics all over the place.
      4. If you call a forced induction V8 the future of Lexus, you show the perfect example of another big Lexus problem, maybe the biggest. V8 engines, petrol engines in general, are outdated. And they have no electric car or plug in to offer except for the UX 300e, which isn't even CCS capable. Laughable.
      5. AMG interiors are essentially the same interiors as from normal models, hence all models apart from some SUVs from the United States have that good quality

Bought a 2010 model back in 2014 with premium package. Navigation, adaptive headlights, 18’s, auto high beams etc. Lots of features and luxuries that even 10 years later, don’t seem as dated. Quality wise, it’s typical Toyota. Other than a few recalls, this car has been problem-free. Also the interior quality is top notch, the leather on the seats have aged well, with just a few creases but no tears. Every single button, bell, and whistle still work flawlessly. Only thing I’ve changed in these six years in the tires and battery. Oil is changed once a year. Only thing that’s been gradually degrading is its gas mileage. In 2014, I was getting a manually calculated mixed city/highway of about 34mpg’s. Nowadays I’m lucky if I get 30. As the hybrid battery pack ages, the engine cycles on and off more often. I think it’s a great car to buy used for the right price.

I own a 2010, I bought it in 2018, it has been extremely reliable and the only thing I had to replace was the 12v battery which was if kinda expensive. But other than that it's a amazing car and has all the bells and whistles you can't get into a Prius, such as radar cruise, memory seats, power rear sunshade, automatic high beams, heated and cooled seats, rain sensor wipers, and the best feature is the 15 speaker Mark Levinson stereo which I have. I had my transmission replaced in 2018 due to a recall. Some vehicles have experienced oil consumption problems in higher mileage, I have 160,000 miles so I haven't experienced anything like that due to faulty piston rings that was a flaw when Toyota developed these engines, it also share the same drivetrain as the 2007-11 Toyota Camry Hybrid so it can be serviced at a Toyota dealership. Another plus than taking it too a expensive Lexus dealer. All I can say you can't even come close to comparing too a Prius. The gas is quite good too, I average 36-42 mpg in the summer and 32-36 in the winter so alot better than the estimates that were given of 35 city 34 hwy on the sticker when new.

In 2013, my wife and I were looking for a small sedan to replace our aging and very unreliable Volvo 850 GLE. We found a 2010 HS250h with 34,000 miles. The original owners had kept it serviced by the dealership sold us the vehicle for $24,000 USD. The vehicle was well equipped with Navigation, Heads Up Display, optional 18 inch tyres and wheels, front camera, heated and cooled seats, auto dimming side and rear view mirrors, memory seats and side mirrors, homelink and other optional upgrades. The vehicle was in immaculate condition and only required tyres due to tread wear. As of February 2023, out car now has 104,200 miles of mixed city and highway driving. In town, the vehicle gets around 33-36 MPG. On the highway it routinely get 38 MPG. Tyre selection has a big impact on this vehicle's fuel consumption. Low rolling resistance energy tyres must be used in order to get the EPA Sticker fuel economy. As for repairs, I have replaced the headlight bulbs, recently the trunk latch and lift struts failed. I also installed a new 12 volt battery that replaced the factory original. Body internal parts as well as exterior panels/trim/components are getting very rare for the HS250h. Most of the vehicle's unique components are very scarce due to the lack of spare parts which were primarily manufactured in Japan. Aftermarket parts are non-existent. The more common Camry parts used on the HS250h are still very plentiful and can be sourced at any Toyota Dealer. the Toyota Dealer tested our Hybrid Battery and reports it was still at 92% of its original capacity. Despite widespread reports from other HS250h owners of oil consumption issues with their 2AZ-FXE Engines, our vehicle still does not use any oil.

@@KirkKreifels I'm just happy that somebody finally made a video about this unsung hero of a car. I love everything about my HS. It truly was ahead of it's time. It has aged very well too and still looks very modern. I love how rare and unique it is. Hardly anybody knows of it's existence since they were only a 2-3 year model. I was just saddened that it's replacement, the CT, was such a POS in comparison. The HS rides smooth and silky. Tons of space, and the interior is plush. The CT is complete trash in comparison. Rough, noisy, small, cheap as hell. Lexus should be ashamed to bring out such a POS in replacement of the HS. My HS is definitely the best car I have ever owned next to my SW20 MR2. Your basic wear item replacements, fluids, and that's it! The only drawback is the lack of folding rear seats due to the battery location. But other than that, my HS has been a beast when it comes to daily driving. I couldn't purchased a better daily. Mines in Ruby Mica Red too so it's pretty hot. Tech package too... No point in getting a luxury car without it. Cheers.

I purchased a used 2010 in 2012 from Carmax. It has 22K on the clock and it is still running great and now has 155K. This car is the greatest car I have had in nearly 50 years of car ownership. It has reliably provided 30-33MPG in combined driving which is far better than any American made car I have had. They only car I had that did better on fuel economy was a 2009 VWJetta TDI, but then we all know how VW achieved that. The down side of the VW was that the turbo died after 140K and the cost to replace was nearly 8K at the VW dealership. I leased a 2021 UX250h last year and gave the 2010 to my daughter. I can honestly say that the UX is far less the car that the HS still is even though it gets about 10 more miles from a gallon of gas. I can't even put a large suitcase in the cargo area without turning it sideways making the cargo space only good for 2 suitcases when I could het 2 big ones and 2 small ones in the trunk of the HS. UX may look sporty but looks are only skin deep!

I bought my Lexus HS250h in June of 2010. I am not up to 280,000 miles and still on the original battery. Interesting that the CT caused the demise of the HS. I didn't like to CT because I couldn't fit into the car. I guess if the average person was taller, the CT would have met the fate of the HS250h, because the HS250h is certainly roomier. I intend to keep this car for as long as possible as it is still highly rated for used hybrid sedans in consumer reports.

Driving my JDM right-hand 2012 HS250h with 105.000km mileage in 3R1 (Red Matador) color. Have done completely new look of it installing restyle front bumper, restyle tail lights and stock restyle 18" rims. Together with ceramic coating this appearence is attracting sights of many people (more to that - there's Tanabe NF210 low-down springs set installed which makes the car look a little bit more attractive).
Fuel consumption is 7.5-8 liters per 100km in summer (if you're not driving it ful throttle). Have installed many Lexus original options together with TOM'S tuning and styling stuff on this car.
My annual mileage is about 5000-6000km, so you can make conclusions regarding it's condition. Nice car. Love it.
BTW yes, there's JDM Toyota Sai which is HS250h's twin brother in terms of engine, drivetrain, suspension and doors. Some people say that restyle Toyota Sai has great appearance and outside lighting, I agree, but materials inside are crap together with the absence of noise-reduction.

Lexus HS250h had an old design when it was launched. The joy stick interface is typically for millenials but its exterior design is a sedan for mature drivers.. It might be the reason of its marketing failure in the American market. Driver sit was a problem too. It was not comfortable despite all the electric adjustments available.

I owned one and it was ahead of its time regarding features/tech. Especially the 1st gen remote controller on the console. It was very elegant and best version ever fielded. I have also owned every generation of RX300/350 and own two presently, a 2010 with same controller as HS250 and 2016 RX with later gen controller. 2010 version was best. Better than track pad version that is in ascendancy now. Auto writers unanimously hate Lexus remote controllers, Lexus should go back to 2010 tech controller. I may never sale my 2010 RX, but I love heads up display and 360 camera system on 2016 RX. When I can get both features on an NX hybrid FSport I may make a move. Enjoy your videos!

wtf, why wasn't that sold in Germany? or other European countries
and they cut it off production in the US
i think the problem was the demand of the home market in Japan and thats causing no sales in the US
but this car would have been perfect for European conditions

    Hi Krik,
Would you consider the 2010 version reliable? I'm guessing since it's mostly or maybe entirely a Camry, it's easy to source parts. But I have an opportunity to getting into one for about 14k and it has 75k miles on it. Not too concerned about the 33-35 MPG figure I've read and you talked about, but I'm sure it's doing 28 MPG without issues.
Any other known issues that could deter a purchase other than the recalls that Lexus would still fix that you mentioned? The biggest thing I've read is something that you mentioned, is that the HS 250h doesn't feel much like a Lexus.
    Thank you!

06:12 have a 2004 Avensis, but even the generation after wouldn't come close to the lexus quality, the HS would be a better car then the Avensis, my Avensis is very noisy, but with the executive trim its makes a bit up with the nice interior, but the Avensis is no replacement for a Lexus HS, i think it would also have tough competition with European car manufacturers
there are not many Lexus found in Germany, i would consider it as a rare car here, i am interested in buying a hybrid model like the RX450h but they are used still expensive to buy 17k€ - 25k€ for the 2010 - 2014 models in good condition
