- I designed an argentavis trap, for ARK: Survival Ascended, that's simple to build, easy to use and works automatically, so you can trap and tame an argy without having to operate any doors. Argys can be safely kited into the trap on foot, or with a Pteradodon. Anyone on your server can use the trap, without worrying about locked or pin coded doors, when trapping and taming an argent.

I've finally made my first ever trap video! I know there's already plenty of Argentavis traps, but I really wanted to have a go at coming up with my own design, that was different to any I've seen, for my ASA playthrough. I set myself the goal of making my trap doorless, so that it worked automatically, and was useable on foot and PT. This is what I came up with. I hope you find it useful. It's not the simplest/cheapest trap, but @captainfatdog already has that covered, so check him out if that's what you're after.
I believe that costs of the trap are so low that being "cheap" isn't most important. Your trap is minimalistic and - of course it works

For ground dinos. Everyone thinks the old pit traps don't work anymore due to pathing, but they do... just have to put a trap door on top of it and set it to open in, and when the dino chases you up onto it, open the trap door... easy peasy. Note make sure the walls are doors so you can run outside. Also nice simple build.
Thank you! And indeed, they didn't work when the game released, but they've made a few tweaks to the pathfinding already and things are much better! People had to get extra creative at first, but the pathfinding is better balanced now. People might not have realised and think they still don't work now, so I'd imagine you're right!
You can also make pit/cage traps with ramps work by building the ramp seperate to the trap, the AI doesnt like to run up a ramp that is part of the pit/cage, but it will run up a ramp that isnt joined to the pit/cage
Either build the ramp a little higher, or just let their inertia carry them into the pit/cage
I find it easier or best to use a pillar to attach the ramps to, you pause briefly on top of the ramp and make sure their following then drop down and out through the back of it, they should follow
As always it may not work 100%, but it works a lot more than if the ramp IS aattached to the trap

@toastbloke lol 😆. You know it's rite. Stand at top of ramp dino comes up. You fall in trap and walk out door. Dinos in trap. I do have 550 health charachter so let them attack me at top of ramp for extra guarantee they go in but don't need to and now they've fixed ai a little bit it works from being on dinos to. But game is still severely broken 😢

Cheers very much fella! Took me many iterations to figure out how to get it to go in and not be able to get out, but make it so I was still be able to get it out at the end! 😂 Doorless traps are my favourite, so it had to crack this one!
Dino gate argy trap always causes me issues with closing the door. I miss it or am too slow often. I am gonna try this trap. No doors or mess to hang me up.
Worked really well! Had trouble at first but I accidentally got too far away and the argy lost agro got out. I did it again and made sure to stay close and it worked.
Great stuff! They did something two patches ago that meant you really have to wait until the argy gets all the way in. It used to just do it right away as you can see in the video. Hopefully that gets fixed!
Awesome little trap, being so small is handy on official pve. I managed to find a small non pillared spot on carno island to fit the trap and it worked a treat. Thanks.

This is brilliant, and truly inspired dude! Love your stuff, and have been using your boat /foundation leveling trick (and throwin all the props your way) since I saw that vid. You really know your stuff! Im currently noodling to figure out a way to build on platform saddles without having to leave an "empty spot" where the harness is in order to be able to fly/guide the beasts.. no luck so far, but there's a nut to crack if you're in the mood for a fine puzzle :)
You're proper kind! Appreciate you! I'm glad you're finding things useful. A lot of it's just messing around, and trial and error, until something strange happens you didn't expect. Can be infuriating, but when you crack something it feels so good! I've not even looked at a platform saddle yet, and didn't use them much in the old game, but I can certainly take a look into it! Like, sink foundations down so you can build and fly?

Very nice design and indeed no doors and no pickups needed so good trap for public use. Also small footprint so no visual pollution like dino gates.

A trap you can walk straight through is perfect. less fluffing around lining up dinos the better.
Glad you like it! Too many times something stupid, like a sabretooth, or a badly placed bush, would stop me getting a trap's door open in time, or I'd take unnecessary damage doing it, so I've always loved any trap designs that do the work for you!

Would be very interested to see some versions for larger dinos. Getting them to walk through gates and up ramps is problematic 😁

Trap worked. Was a little hard to get the argy in bc my flyer has high movement speed but overall pretty good.
Lovely stuff! It's definitely easier to run them in on foot with how low you have to keep you flyer to kite one in, but glad to hear you were able to. Cheers!

And as you say, there are alredy other traps for Argy, but it doesnt hurt to make more, in some cases or places sometimes, one is better than another, youve given people more options 👍

I've spent forty minutes trying to make this trap work and it's failed every time, it either flies past the trap or it gets in the trap and just flies out. It worked first try on my first argy so I'm pretty sure this broke in an update
I've just been on the test it, on server and single-player, and it worked both times. Are you using the same trap, or did you rebuild it?
@@toastbloke I was using the same trap as last time, I honestly have no idea why it didn't work. The first time it was as simple as flying through it with a pteranodon, but this time I must have gotten it into the trap seven or eight times and it turned around and flew back out every time
@@thomasdevlin5825Could it maybe be that it wasn’t fully inside? Sometimes it looks like it’s in the trap, but it needs its feet over the door and to fly down. Standing or land on the ramp once you go through makes sure it comes all the way in. It’s harder with a flyer as it flys up into the roof more if you don’t land or fly down behind the ramp. Thank you! I didn't mention it because it's not trap specific, and is fairly well known, but yes, structures can stop spawns. That's why one simple simple trap, that's easy for anyone to use, can be helpful! 😎

Anyone know how to lower/raise pillars on ps4?
If you're on ASA, you just look up and down after the first click to place. Would be your right analogue stick, I believe.

Nice cheap trap for servers with structure pick-up disabled.
For the rest I'd still prefer good old 4 gates-2doors one since it's easily reusable and can trap almost every dino from argy to giga.
Cheers! I've never been a fan of gateways, coming from PvP, as cheap, quick and discrete is king, and building is my favourite part of the game, but I completely get why people use them. One trap solves all, especially with pick up being official now, like you say!

I need/use a trap, and I shall continue to play Ark. Depends on your play style, I am not much of a shooter. Something for everyone.
Cheers! I'm pretty sure using a trap doesn't mean you shouldn't play ARK. Just means there's people out there who enjoy building and want to make life a little easier by preventing other things getting in the way. It's not like you desperately need any traps in that case! Maybe nobody should play! 😜
Nice trap, but IMO if you have to trap an Argy in ASA you should find a new game. You can knock out any argy on foot without ever getting hit. Pathing sucks in ASA so you only have to sidestep it when it gets close.
Cheers! There’s lots of things that aren’t needed, but are still fun to play about with and/or make life a little easier. Never a bad idea to future proof either, just incase the pathing improves and they end up pulling out Street Fighter moves. They are odd though. Love to just fly back to you right away deciding to fly off atm!
It's not a pain when it chases you, it's a pain when its torpor goes up, you get a xbow glitch and it starts flying off... And knocking it down anywhere wiht such a long taming time gives it so much time to be attacked by so many different creatures and you lose taming effectiveness.
Helpful for us peeps many miles from a server with high ping who can't shoot arrows due to rubberbanding. Also great if you have subpar eyesight and reflexes but love ark. Something for everyone. I always use a trap, have no intention of finding another game. Horses for courses.

asa dinos are broken you don't need traps anymore, just run circles around them. they dumber than last time
You never really even needed traps in ASE for The Island creatures, but they make life easier and building is a big part of the fun to be had in the game! Hopefully, they get sorted out soon regardless and add some extra challenge!
