I've been using the B8's for about the last month through my 9015 and I'm really happy with how they're performing, the fitment in the barrel is consistent, and although I've not weighed mine a mate has and he said they're all very close to each other. If they can keep things up throughout future batches they'll be onto a winner.
Yeah mate they feel lovely into the 9015 barrel. You soon notice if there's any odd sizes the way they load. They feel pretty consistent in the wind which is great.not yet had the feeling they have done anything odd downrange. If they keep them priced sensibly I'm sure a lot will swap over.if they don't then alot wont ditch the jsb made
I always thought of the Braccuda FT as a pellet for FAC air rifles, since the normal sub 12 does not have enough pressure to properly seal the thick rim of the skirt to the rifling. JSBs have always been more accurate due to thin rim of the skirt and the softer lead alloy used.
Just bought a Red Wolf in .177, and had about 15 different pellet types to try, all of the well known and widely used ones from JSB, QYS and H&N etc, as well as a few odd ones. I shot 5 shot groups with the Red Wolf firmly in a rest, indoors at 35 yards with all of the pellets, and i did this twice. The Baracuda 8 was by FAR the best, absolutely unbelievable groups! I was using 8mm targets and in the last group set i shot, ALL 5 B8's were completely inside the 8mm target... Only the JSB Exact 8.44's came close, but they were 4.53 skirts, so will try some 4.5's and compare them to the B8's again, but at pretty much half the price i think i have a winner, at least in my Red Wolf... Want to try the H&N FT as well before i buy 100 tins of anything though :)
Nice video Tommy, I have both the AirMaks Krait and Katran, and I have been using the Bisley Magnums in .177 10.6 gr, It was Chris Roberts who told me that the AirMaks likes Bisley Magnums, he has been testing different pellets and found that Bisley worker best.
I had the katran out earlier today mate with the jsb ultra shocks, really surprised with them as they are ridiculously accurate and hit so hard. I've yet to try anything that matches them for all out clout.
Great video Tommy. I was out with the Krait and the HFT 500 today trying these pellets out. Both rifles love the Baracuda ft and JSB pellets, but neither of them liked these. Nevermind, I'm sure they'll be ok in another rifle at some point. At least i got to try out the new hamster you sent me, I couldn't be happier mate 👍
In all my 50+ years of using air rifles i have never had any H & N pellets that any of my rifles have liked. I picked up my first .25 & a local shop only had .25 H & N. The gun was dreadful but i had forgot how bad H & N had been for me!!. Got a tin of AA fields ... spot on! The days when i used to be able to buy 500 Beatle slugs for 50p are long gone & i cant justify £12 for what is literally hit or miss!!
Largely had similar problems. The odd stella performer such as H&N Sillouette .177 that were brilliant in MK1 TX200 but they ended those, sadly, 30 years (?) ago. H&N are just too hard. Still no consistently better pellet than JSB.
@@Marcus1954s Tried a lot of H&N in my OLD BSA Meteor MKII .22 and they are all over the shop now i know a part of the problem is the Barrel mounting but still the ultimate pellet i have found are the JSB HADES (the barrel fix is being worked on ) Barrel now sorted piece 0f 7.006mm steel rod and 2 4mm countersunk allen bolts NO movement at all bostin
Managed to get some baracuda 8's, tried them in my AA S510TC Carbine and Daystate huntsman revere safari at 25yards and would say that their up with the airarms Df's.nice to have an alternative pellet that's about £5-6 per tin cheaper than jsb.
Another great vid with lots of info. I have found Daystate Rangemaster Kaiser .177 out perform JSB 8.44 in my HW99s (tuned to 10flb by Shauny AGF) I am using it with a little Vector Calypos x3 prism scope at up to 20m. I plan on shooting it up to 50m very soon. I also plan on taking my Daystate Mk3 RT .177 out to 50m and seeing if the JSB Heavies out perform the 8.44's
Another great video! 😎 I do HFT competition and just stick to what the top competitors use! Of course you still have to batch test and all the rest of it but narrowing it down certainly helps! I'd rather pay the extra and get the consistency!
I use bisley magnum which is a H&n pellet…as for £10 a tin? How many years ago was that? In London? Can’t remember finding tins for under £20….for me jsb always lead the market until qys started cornering the market…can’t believe with all the science we can’t get a lead free alternative that works! But to be honest I don’t think they should try…cleaning plastics out of drinking water for humans should be the priority…ooopps of topic
I actually find H&N far more reliable and consistent than QYS. Over a tin of pellets, QYS have 7 weight categories (i use 0.05gr increments) whereas H&N baracuda FT and Baracuda Match only have 3. And you can find them for £10 or siflgnificantly less per tin online.
Jsb are very good in my gun, however at £16 a tin expensive and hearing to many people complaining about jsb quality thesedays , qys good but yet again expensive , went to baracuda 8 good quality and just bought another 5 tins also tried baracuda ft .451 and a very good so ordered more of them so thing ft is the go to pellet and baracuda 8 as a back up pellet
I've found the spitfires domed are a great cheap plinking pellet very accurate and if you look at them next to a super field domed they are identical but half the price
Its strange how some pellets perform differently at various ranges , my pellet of choice in my hw 100 seems to pefer Qys heavy streamline ( best group’s i have ever shot out to 50 yards - 0.4 inches ! ) . However after seeing posts on facebook of 1 inch groups at 100 yards ( lol ) i thought i would give it a try - 8 inches However changing to jsb exacts which are awful at 30 yards gave consistent 3-4 inch groups ! Conclusion , i think i will stick to qys as i’m never going to hunt past 40 yards and they seem to thread the proverbial eye of the needle at that range .
I tested some at 25yds in my Daystate Mk4 iS on Friday. They grouped all right, but even with weighed pellets, my rifle still prefers Rangemaster Sovereigns. I can say they were very consistent, with most weighing 8.4 or 8.5 grains. They don't feel as nice as QYS pellets, but they are cleaner than the Sovereigns. Noticeably thinner skirts. I'll try them in my other rifles, suspect my MPR will like them.
That's good Info thanks mate. I guess you used them ss loaded and not via the mag? The MK4 and the AA have similarly specced barrels, I'd love to know how they go in the AA. I'm going to run these though my ultimate sporter in time.thats another one that's quite unfussy 😉
Just shot a 15mm 5 shot group in my club's monthly 50yd BR comp with my MPR and Sovereigns. Then I tried a couple of groups using the Baracudas and they grouped even better. I might give them a go next month. Perfect conditions tonight though, be interesting to see what a bit of wind does to them.
Good vid very informative till can u do a vid to show the difference with rifle set at 11"5 ft pound 10 .5 and 9.5 IE pellet drop at same zero and down range energy thanks
Hi mate. It's on the cards but not that easy to do fairly with the rigs I've got currently. All of them are set up for say 11.5 but just winding them down without adjusting the reg pressures and valving will really be problematic in the low powers. I'm keeping my eye out for something more suitable.so I can just back the hammer off and drop the powers for the test 😉
Nice one, proper job. I haven't tried them, but have always found the BFTs go well in my 3x Weihrauch and 1xFX guns. That said, I find JSBs better in the Weihrauchs, and QYS (just) better in the FX (where JSBs are awful). BUT, I do find the consistency of the H&Ns good and there seem to be very few damaged pellets cp JSB. Also, that head shape loads nicely into both magazine and barrel.
Hello I like the videos your doing but just a few comments, marking the targets clearly with the range is good many forget to do that. i do a lot of testing 4.5 and 5.5 but since a few months now all on 5.5 fx impact at 50 meters, sorting pellets by weight first.. this for me is essential and here's why....first it shows how well or badly the pellet batch has been made, 2nd compares the tin to your last test batch , and sorting into very close weights produces the best accuracy possible with that pellet. of course resizing to a conform diameter also helps but weight sorting is critical. We need to know why a pellet is performing badly or well and this data is very important. I measure and sort mine to three decimal places..eg 0.895 g Next single shot loading....using a magazine to pre load 10,20,or more pellets means your not damaging them on inserting them one by one, also you can shoot your groups far more accurately by not having to move about, rummage in the tin for another pellet, remove your hand from the grip and re position and take aim again....the military doesn't do that !! to test any pellet or slug for accuracy YOU have to do everything too that increases accuracy to eliminate variation and loss of accuracy. finally when doing group tests, having a card holder that has a steel backplate with a 6mm hole directly behind the bullseye and a bell behind that, is really superb for confirming each shot when you've put 5 through the same hole but the target is destroyed and has a big ragged hole in the centre.. a clear ding confirms the pellet has gone dead centre, if the bell ring is not as clear, then the pellet clipped the hole ( but still covered the bull) and only part of the pellet hit the bell. so not dead centre. Also for the video as well as personal satisfaction that helps for the next shot, ringing that bell on consecutive shots is a very powerful motivation to get another bulls eye . on my target backplate the hole is actually a hardened steel tube inserted through the 4mmthick steel backplate and 8mm long with an internal bore of 6mm, at 50 meters using sorted graded and resized pellets hitting and hearing that bell ring hard 7 times in 10 shots is awesome , not only a great auditive add on to your video, but a great improvement on just seeing the edge of a ragged hole move a bit , and at 50 meters you cant even see that without the go pro help !! hope my comments help. Colin Martin
Great video as always 👍 Tried the 8's through my Krait and they were ok but not great through my HW100 and FX Dreamline they were very good 👍 Have you tried the H&N Baracuda FT ? In my AirMaks krait they are outstanding 😁
Cheers Tom, I've not tried the ft's as yet. I got them mainly to test in the xti. A few of them are doing really well with them, but if the ft perform like the qys streamlines in my katran I'll be very happy. The qys tolerances have been poor of late so might swap the kat' over to h&n.although it does run the jsb heavies really well and they are better at the extended ranges than the qys.
My Air Arms hates all Barracuda varients but loves FTTs. Go figure. Every gun is different. I tried Barracuda Match and Barracuda FT recently, and they performed badly. But that testing session resulted in me switching from JSB 8.44s to FTTs. Never would have thought that would happen.
Nice vid, on the constructive side if I may, would probably be a bit more cautious with your titles /headlines as it could lead you exposed to some liability. The shape of these do not look like they are sailing close to any other mainstream makers IP infringement, so good on H&N for making a pellet that people are used to using weight wise. Have also bought a batch and like you very different results depending on barrel - my old pro target , direct feed barrel loves them, but my custom gun with high quality barrel, also a direct feed doesn't like them as much. Ended up doing over 300 on the range last weekend in conditions similar to what you had, although I went out to 55y instead of stopping at 45. Keep on with the vids, they are useful atb Rammy
Hi Dave, they feel nice and consistent and shot nicely through the 2 target rifles. I'm looking forward to doing more with them, it's almost like a completely fresh start with the xti and ammo that i've no idea/long term experience about. I'm looking forward to delving deeper into the size/weight and then speed variations for a fine tune for them. I've only got 3 tins for the moment, what I'm hoping to do is keep a tin aside for a month or 2 and then grab some more and then compare the 2,which hopefully will be from different batches. I know alot the nr boys see almost no discernable differences . Im excited to do more with them tbh. Question for you mate,if you don't mind.. Id happily have a little extra drop and drift at range, as long as it's super consistent in the wind. Would you be of the same mindset? Cheers😉
@@tillysgunstocks yes for me its repeatability without any of the headscratching ones where you think where the hell did that come from. On HFT trajectory with the better barrel, I was on the same zero was getting 0.2 m/d more drop at 45. However, If i gave a couple clicks so the pellet hole @25 was sitting on top of the cross hair (in effect moving to 30 ish y zero) this brought the 45y aimpoint back to 0.7m/d. With that in mind, I do expect downrange MV to be circa 30 fps down on the usual figures, but if the side profile doesn't catch as much wind, then it may not be a big deal. I did start weighing the evening before the range session with them, gave up after 50 as it was a waste of time, they consistent as per my previous tests weighing H&N. Imho, H&N should have gone down this path a long time ago instead of giving away 2 decades worth of HFT/FT competition shooter sales away. I hope the consistency and cost stays, if they can pull that one off then they are onto a good thing. I hope they do make smaller head sizes as there will be bc gains to be had there i'm sure, and no this isn't the same thing as running through a sizer as that changes the contact patch size. Good luck with your testing.
Tommy, sorry to be off-topic, but what is the best way to contact you to discuss modifications of an Aeron chassis for an AA S500, especially the butt rest and the grip? (I don't use Facebook). Regards.
Yep I like the superfields, there's a couple vids of them on here.they aren't as stable at the longer ranges as the likes of the jsb ,but for mid distance work they are great and a good price
Where do buy your pellets in bulk , ? Thankyou for your video's , all barrel like different pellets, but still really interesting. More sea sea fishing please
I'll usually just shop around online for the best bulk deals nowdays tbh. Not all firms offer the best prices on all the particular brands so it's worth checking all over. I've had little chance to fish of late, the weather has been terrible here. I'll probably whip together a vid or 2 towards the autumn though 😉
Nothing wrong with H &N pellets my gun loves pretty much all the range they have in 177 and dont have to change my zero on my scope accept for when using heavy and light
got 2 tins inbound to try in the spring gun to be fair the red wolf i use shorts and it’s like a laser if i do my job right . spring sun i use the qys 8.84 but they all come out at 8.9 however it don’t like the shorts so i am curious to if the 8’s go through it 🤪
Hi mate, I reckon they would be worth a try in the redwolf. That and the xti have high spec walther barrels. I've shot a few more since filming with the xti.without the sun right behind me the groups tightened up a touch more. Very encouraging tbh.😉
Hi mate the BSA goldstar are a rebrand of the h&n ftt. I've actually seen the BSA version cheaper at some places than the h&n too. Definitely a pellet that has the potential.. in the right barrel ofcourse😉
@@tillysgunstocks thought as much ! Only tried a few yesterday but so far seem to group half about at 30m. Which works for me as only shoot out to 40m max unless messing around with targets
😭🤣 I dont know mate, if they can afford to keep them around the 10quid mark,it would make good business sense. A decent saving over jsb and might pull in some customers who would use cheaper stuff normally. The cheaper stuff is going up,so the jump to the h&n is less felt on the wallet. They are very clever these Germans 😉
I’ve got some on the way but paid £17 delivered. If they’re any good, and everyone can get them locally, you’re spot on. A definite coup. Fingers crossed for a price war 🤞 😄
HAs anyone done a comparrison of a quantity of pellets from the same tin ie diameter of head Skirt and overall lenght i have just just that for JSBHades Bisley Pest Control H&N Excite spike and a real cheapo you would be surprised how much a sample of 25 pellets varies the JSB were a real surprise not what i would have thought . .
£10.25 ?? , well there WERE , now every man , woman and there dog wants them they have shot up to £12.50 ( see the pun there ? ) bought me firsts tins @ £10 .. soon hiked the prices up .. I can see them going up in price by 10p every time you say " potential " ... soon be £16 like QYS ... rate the 9.57grn higher btw ..
There cant be that many designs , its all to the same basic spec ,,, think pencil ,, theres about two or three variations on the theme , then they all get a bit same old same old
I’ve commented on how bad the H&N pellets I used today were. They were .177 and about 25% fell through the magazine. I’ve commented twice and they haven’t appeared. So please accept my apologies for my suspicion.
I'll have a look when I'm on the laptop later. I only get limited options on the phone app. Occasionally yt hides some comments if it thinks they are spam or abusive or whatever. If I can find them I'll approve them. I've nothing to hide on the channel 😉
Thank you for the video... My HW 97 in 22 stacks HN FTT on top of each other. Second choice is Crosman premiers then JSB.

Baracuda 8 is the same like RWS Superdome !
On 25 yards group must be in 6 mm to say it's good.
When you do a pull through, do you use dry patches or lubed patches then dry? If lubed what do you use?
@6:54 - I was like 'what the f***!' ducking and looking around me!
Are these soft lead like jsb air arms ? My 100 kt won’t group with aadf or jsb but loves h&n or qys might try these if there a harder lead
They feel much the same lead mix as the rest of the h&n range so relatively hard compared a jsb 😉
Keep on with the vids, they are useful

@@daveramshead8029 thanks for that mate. It's quite exciting times, for us target shooting nerds anyhow...
Tommy, sorry to be off-topic, but what is the best way to contact you to discuss modifications of an Aeron chassis for an AA S500, especially the butt rest and the grip? (I don't use Facebook). Regards.
Hi mate, I can be found on a few of the UK airgun forums too 😉
Any love for the RWS Superfield?
Thanks very informative 👍👍👍
@@tillysgunstocks i will give it a go my friend and let you know how i get on . shorts i have to import from germany
i think h&n had this years before JSB
Interesting bud cheers 👍🏻
Just bought a tin of bsa gold star pellets pretty sure they are made by h&n as stew top tin the same as is the sealing sticker aound the outside…
Where did you get the shooting mat?
Hi mate, these were made by a lady in Essex. I think she's packed up now though unfortunately.
@@tillysgunstocks thanks for the reply, enjoying your output, particularly the vids including the Xti-50. Might have to get one!
Regards Rick
Can’t find stock anywhere. 😂
Let’s see if they’re still £10 when back in stock. 🤔
Edit:: B&K have some left.
£17.25, delivered.
HAs anyone done a comparrison of a quantity of pellets from the same tin ie diameter of head Skirt and overall lenght i have just just that for JSBHades Bisley Pest Control H&N Excite spike and a real cheapo you would be surprised how much a sample of 25 pellets varies the JSB were a real surprise not what i would have thought . .
These are .177 or .22
So far everything on the channel is .177 😉
@@tillysgunstocks .177 users 😁🫶
H&N are made with stif lead compared to jsb which is much softer and my gun loves them, yep the H,N can go straight in the bin
£10.25 ?? , well there WERE , now every man , woman and there dog wants them they have shot up to £12.50 ( see the pun there ? ) bought me firsts tins @ £10 .. soon hiked the prices up .. I can see them going up in price by 10p every time you say " potential " ... soon be £16 like QYS ... rate the 9.57grn higher btw ..
There cant be that many designs , its all to the same basic spec ,,, think pencil ,, theres about two or three variations on the theme , then they all get a bit same old same old
theres a lot of variables in a pellet, head size, skirt size,, thickness of skirt,,, length of pellet, depth of skirt, head shape, lead/tinament ratio
@@colinstevens6837 theres a lot of variations on a theme ,,, the basic design remains a constant
@@tomthompson7400 yes just like all cars are the same
@@redauwg911 yep ,,, basically they are
Deleting comments that’s that contradict your findings on the H&N pretty pathetic but guess this will be deleted too
I have literally no clue what you are talking about?
I’ve commented on how bad the H&N pellets I used today were. They were .177 and about 25% fell through the magazine. I’ve commented twice and they haven’t appeared. So please accept my apologies for my suspicion.
I'll have a look when I'm on the laptop later. I only get limited options on the phone app. Occasionally yt hides some comments if it thinks they are spam or abusive or whatever. If I can find them I'll approve them. I've nothing to hide on the channel 😉
