  • Range testing the most extreme air rifle hunting pellets...
Accuracy testing some of the most powerful pellets on the market, in preparation for some ballistic gel penetration testing to follow
    the pellets on test are..
    Jsb Hades
    predator polymags
    polymag shorts
    Gamo lethal
    H&N red scorpion
    H&N Hornet
Ive also found some vintage copped tipped pellets from the early 1990s and some lead free versions too.
i used my Anschutz 9015 for the testing

I laughed when my mate showed me the polymag shorts he started using but was amazed at the accuracy and damage they caused through his hw100

Glad this test showed the .177 polymag shorts are serious kit not gimmick, I can confirm they do expand in "soft" targets. Sensitive to wind and not for long range 40 max.
I find .177 Hades give me a random fliers for no apparent reason, but also the highest BC I have measured in .177, 0.031.
.22 Hades are however amazing more ftld, more accurate and more impact.
I would still like for you to shoot the plastic crap at ballistic gel even if it's 10m just to show how useless they are.

I get great results with both caliber hades, RWS guve me random flyers, but they are very tight In my .177 and suspect I might be causing damage when feeding from the magazine..

My go to pellet is bisley long range gold .177 , enjoyed your video' 👍 a lite pellet but my sub 12 ft FX impact really likes them and they take grays out at good distance

I always look forward to new vids from you. One of my favourite streamers. Great info and a great style. I have never had good results with the .177 Hades but the .22 version seem to work well in all my rifles. The Polymag shorts also are a top performer but too expensive for general target work and plinking.

25 to 30 yards... .177 RWS Hobby are great pest control/hunting pellets.
That flat face helps prevent over penetration.

Polymag shorts fit my .22 brocock bantam magazines and are surprisingly accurate. My .177 FX dreamline generally shoots the 177 hades really well but they do throw a flier every now and again.

  • @Beesa10

My take from this is stick with the JSB domes, the polymag short can work well but the hornets look coolest and would make a good novelty gift labelled 'ultra deadly armour piercing ballistic tip, warning may shoot through anything'

The JSB Exact is my rifle's fave. I've tried the ball tipped ones too in the past. Complete rubbish. A third of the tin had their balls rolling around in the tin, many skirts bent, and the 'good ones' I got a grouping close to your results (PCP as well as a break-barrel magnum). Great testing video!

Dont forget to test knockout slugs when you go for gel, not sure they will expand correctly in sub12 but both 10 and 13 gr knockouts show amazing performance in fac rifles

Thanks for the intelligent and interesting test. I don't think any of those pellets will open up much at sub12 level. At sub12 to 30m I would use H&N Baracuda Hunter for stopping power on pests. I shoot .22 and .25 at higher velocities, a keen user of Polymags (ensuring all tips centred) but in .22 switched to Hades (due to price mainly) which are not effected by wind so much-especially beyond 35m. I don't use Hades in .25 as they simply wont group in my LW barrels; choked or unchoked, irrespective of velocity/pressure, sizing thimble or probe length. I cannot understand why manufactures can't produce consistently sized barrels and matching pellets.

    • @mrln247
      @mrln247 Год назад

I have recovered.177 Polymag shorts that definitely did expand, they do a lot lot more damage than any normal dome head, Barracuda Hunter extreme do also do a good amount of damage but less expansion than the Polymag.
Hades in .22 are a very effective pellet even at sub 12, they don't need to fragment like many think for that head design to change the impact.

    • @johnndavis7647
      @johnndavis7647 9 месяцев назад

I have seen the poly tipped pellets do a lot of damage in ballistic jell blocks. It seems to be that they go into the block about 15mm and tumble creating a larger wound channel for about 3cm.
They end up backwards in the jell blocks.
My issue these days is penetration for animals larger than rabbits.
Expansion with 22 pellets isnt really needed with head shots.
What kind of pellet has given the
deepest penetration with 12 pound rifles?
      Thanks for all you do.

Ran hn baracuda hunter xtremes against 1/16 steel sheeting, would leave moderate dent. Hornets at same fps would blow through one side of the sheeting of the vent boxing, and would leave a dent similar to the cudas on the other side. Groupings were amazing.

Another interesting and great test. The Polymags really surprised me as did the Hades. However, having used both l have found that the Hades are much better in .22 than in .177 and certainly both are not that accurate past 25m.
