I know the pricing thing has been beat to death, but it really seems like automotive journalists are very delicate about not criticizing car makers for obscene pricing. Are journalists afraid of being black listed by these companies or something?

So what do you want them to do? Whine for 10 minutes about how much it costs? What does that accomplish? There are a gazillion videos of people whining about the cost. But it or don't buy it. Who cares? I don't want the government telling them what they can charge. If people want to spend insane money for it so be it.

As you said. It's been beaten to death..
I will say I had a 23 Tacoma Off Road rental and those are usually around 35-40k in the past. I also had a 19 Colorado Z71. That was around 35k with a 40k MSRP.
I got a 24 Colorado ZR2 loaded up the wazoo at 54k MSRP. Well it definitely feels like a much more premium vehicle over the last gen Colorado and Tacoma. There's color in the interior, ride quality and power is superior, the interior materials feel higher quality. The tech is much better. Definitely feels like they have put a lot more money in the design of these new generation vehicles at the high end.

It’s as if they forgot that it was us subscribers who gave them the fame, not the automakers. The screen is pretty dope man. You’d be surprised how quickly you get used to better things 😂. I agree the pro and trailhunter are stupidly expensive. Even the premium trd models are way too expensive, but the base trd models are right where they should be as far as price goes. It just depends on whether you want all the fancy crap like moon roofs and electric tailgates (the tailgates are aluminum and extremely lightweight btw). I think the pro is the best looking mid sized truck out there at the moment, and looking cool can be a big selling point for a lot of folks. The Ranger raptor and the top gmc/chevy trims are sharp looking too, but there’s just something extra awesome about the way the Tacoma sits… I dunno, just my opinion.

I would say in the midsize pickup truck market that the answer is no, it’s not worth it. The reason being there are good alternatives to this truck from both GM and Ford. However, I am a 4Runner owner and I’m more likely to hold my nose and pay up for the 6th Gen 4Runner TRD Pro when it finally comes out later this year and I think a lot of other people will be more willing to pay up for that model as well. The main reason being that there’s really no alternative to that vehicle on the market right now. The closest currently is the Ford Bronco or Jeep Wrangler but then you have to want to have a noisier cabin due to the doors and roof that come off. Most of us 4Runner owners don’t want that or we would already be driving those other options. I know Ford has said they may bring out the Ford Everest as a direct competitor the 4Runner, but that isn’t a guarantee. So Tacoma TRD Pro, no, 4Runner TRD Pro or Trailhunter….maybe.

I absolutely LOVE Toyota trucks. I’ve owned a few throughout the years and they have proven time and again that they’re more reliable and better built than the trucks I’ve had throughout the years from the Big 3. My current truck is a Toyota. It’s 20 years old and has 300,000 miles on it and it runs like a top. I’d drive it cross country with zero hesitation ! But $67,000 plus for a new Taco ?!?! I don’t care if it’s the TRD Pro. I’d balk at 57 let alone the extra 10K ! I’m also thinking the Raptor is a better choice, and at 10K less expensive I’d buy it long before the Taco. Of course the reality is that I’ll just keep putting the miles on my 4.7 and avoid the payments altogether by swapping out the timing belt and water pump every 100,000 miles and keeping up with the oil changes. The only thing my current truck doesn’t do well is drive past a gas station…
