    Nice aircraft and sorry for the mishap.
    Here is what I will normally do on all foamy models( especially those make in China). Its call pre-integrity check.
    1. I give a gentle tug on vital join part , like fins, stabiliser, to see if they hold up
    2. Then I check if the servos are secured to the wing wells. There were cases where the servo just drop off from the wing.
    3. I will check all the hinges and surface for sign of weakness. This include the canopy and battery compartment, wing installation bolt.
    4. Adequate wing spar strength and integrity.
    5. Any vital glueing joints for integrity.
    There were cases where the foam part had paint over the surface area that need to be glued on. I had to remove the foam, poke holes to create pores ,then re-glue the model again.
    I hope this tips will help you.

    Use the two black T shape anchors and screws for the canopy! 6s 5000 30c works perfect 50c will not fit, when your landing gear comes loose install wooden blocks then you can secure them with screws this is a great plane. I have a few of them my boys and I really enjoy the P 40. For a warbird they fly a lot better than the FMS F4U 1700mm Corsair.

      It refused to die. Not its time it seems. 🤣 For its size its a really light plane. Guess it just floated down when the battery ejected. Just make sure you secure everything. I didnt have a battery that fit in the intended area. So i just rigged up a temporary velcro extension. The balsa block wasnt designed to hold the battery in the way i had it. And the balsa just gave way. Dont take anything for granted. The magnets on the canopy arent very strong. If you can put a mechanical latch on it before maiden that would be the best. I should have just trimmed it in the air and brought it down as originally planned. Luckily it barely took any damage. Just waiting for the replacement prop and will be back in the air. Have a good maiden man!

      @@capnhardway didnt make a permanent retention system for the battery. I just extended the strap from the existing setup since the battery didnt fit in the intended location. Didnt think the roll would throw the battery out. Also didnt help that the entire canopy was just held on by weak magnets. Simple fixes i should have done before maiden. Just got anxious trying to do more aggressive maneuvers even though i knew it wasnt designed for it.

    Pretty good, finding it wasn't totaled after all. I've been following these large P-40s since they first came out and have the 1.7 Hobby King model which came out in 2012 and I loved to fly. It's not been flown since it's canopy departed followed by its battery and it pancaked in with no power while a friend was flying it. There were some videos of the LX version on RC Groups years back, many had sufficient pleasure with it though the quality fluctuated a lot.

      I thought it was trashed for sure. When it nosed down toward the ground, i pretty much expected to be picking up packing foam. 🤣 something caused it to pull out of the dive and climb just before hitting the ground. Then finally the wing hit the ground and absorbed most of the impact. Pretty amazed at how it kind of saved itself.

    • @all_rc
      @all_rc  Год назад +1

      LX planes are built to a price... a cheap price. We've had quite a few LX planes and some are decent and some aren't good. Pretty much all are underpowered and have delicate gear. This plane is no different. Take a look at the video again... I do apologize for the wide shot but the sun glare was so bad, I couldn't see anything! The plane didn't fly straight into the ground. When the battery fell out, no control. It dove to the ground and recovered at the last moment. Went back up and and then landed on its roof. In other words a much more gentle hit than straight into the ground. ANY plane would have been disintegrated if it went straight into the ground. And any plane would have had minor damage with the hit this plane took. I stand by my statements... I think LX planes are built very cheap but they do make some unique planes that aren't available from other manufacturers. If you spend the time to rework the cheap stuff, LX planes can be great but usually, they are sub par compared to the quality competition.

    • @all_rc
      @all_rc  Год назад +1

      (Im the actual owner of the P40). Just making jokes man. But LX is definitely less robust in terms of quality and construction. Regarding the battery, i was using a 6S 6200 100C pack which did not fit in the balsa box that you are familiar with. I made a velcro extention to retain the battery in the bay. Fortunately the pack was much lighter than other 6S 6000 packs and was able to get CG. My mistake was assuming that the existing balsa plate would hold the strap extentions with the battery placed in a different location. Yes i should have made a more permanent modification. And that would also include modifying the canopy so there was a mechanical retention rather than trusting the weak magnets that came with the kit. I was well aware of this before maiden which is why i joked about my expecations. Most people who buy LX are well aware of this. But some people are not. So giving others fair warning is to their benefit. Not every plane is perfect out of the box. We all take our chances with every plane we fly. But there are definitely some companies who a better job. Anyone who flies would think that a roll would be simple enough to execute. But having flown other LX kits where landing gear comes apart during take off, control surfaces get disconnected, or other quality control issues, i was wary about pushing this P40 too hard on Maiden as i didnt have much experience with it yet. What happened is the result of taking things for granted. That's on me. So i just laughed it off and hopefully others learned from my mistake. This thing will definitely fly again. And i look forward to it. Just need to make proper mods to avoid the same problems.

      @@maxun1 yeah. Its upsetting to have to do so much work on a plane that most other manufacturers provide as standard. But it seems like LX thinks they are giving alot of value for a lower price. There really isnt another kit in this size for around 500 bucks. But the amount of work trying to fix or improve something that isnt engineered or constructed well isnt worth the relatively few dollars saved. I initially i thought upgrading the motor, prop, ESC and maybe going to 8S or even 12S would really make the kit more enjoyable. But the bigger problem im seeing is that STRUCTURALLY, the kit cannot handle that kind of power. Its a novelty to see such a big foamy in the air. But i dont see myself taking this one out to the field very often. It takes up too much space during transport, which means i cant bring as many other planes i would need to get my fix for the day. There is no way i would go to the field with JUST this one plane. Its just not that thrilling to fly.
