Fun Fact: This movie would’ve been rated NC-17 instead of R if it contained 400 or more swear words. So what did Trey and Matt do? They used exactly 399 swear words.😂 And that's currently the Guinness world record for most swear words in an animated film.
When the arbitrary swearwords reach a multiple that can be counted on your ten fingers, it's now the same as a sex film. Reminds me of a horror film that got NC-17 until reshot because they considered a murder victim's death scream "too erotic." Also another reason I don't support the metric system; learn to count outside of tens.
It was supposed to be called something like "Hell on Earth" and having hell in the name was too much for the the rating they were going for so they changed the title to a dick joke.
South Park is so good at doing meta humor a lot of it is done unintentionally lol. but I think that says more about us as a society than it does about South Park.
Brian Boitano was a figure skater. Fun fact: He sells Tshirts that say “What would Brian Boitano do?” that he had to get permission from Matt and Trey to use.
Fun Fact: George Clooney had a hand in popularizing South Park. He helped bring attention to the short film "The Spirit of Christmas" which ended up becoming South Park.
I took my 13Year old daughter to see this and the theater owner looked at me like I was insane. I wanted to explain to her how satire and comedy can be an effective tool to learning about prejudices and racism. It worked, but damn, the backlash was unbelievable. This is a true story. Trey and Matt (creators) were pissed that when it came to who had the best songs at the Oscars (Blame Canada), it lost to Phil Collins' song You'll Be In My Heart from Tarzan. Apparently, they weren't pissed that they lost, they were pissed that they lost to Phil Collins, so they made an episode lampooning him.

It does all the things that makes South Park great, all in one epic storyline: - It has tons of stupid/offensive humor - It has a really deep and sophisticated message underneath all the humor - It has TONS of genuine creativity and ambition
They actually planned that trilogy to be the South Park movie, but then they changed their mind like last second and they just made it into a three part episode.
At the time this was SHOCKING. When Terrence and Phillip started singing, I literally fell out of my seat in the theater. Funniest damn movie I'd seen to that point in my life.
This movie was mostly satirizing the controversy how real kids snuck in to see South Park. This film was released alongside the Will Smith comedy Wild Wild West. The reason that movie made more money than South Park Trey and Matt believed at least was cause most kids bought a ticket for that movie and snuck in to see this.
I remember a review I read when this came out, and the ending line was, "disney could learn from this movie on how to make a musical". Also, there were so many little kids in the theater. About 3/4's of the theater got up and left, at the point where every one leaves the theater in the beginning of the movie. Perfection.
In reference to the "drop shadows," the original South Park was literally made by animating cut out construction paper figures. They had actual drop shadows. Later they used computers to make the episodes but added drop shadows to make it still look like construction paper.

This opened the same time as Episode 1. The really funny thing is most times you had both theaters side by side, so the people in Star Wars could hear the music and insane crowd response through the walls.

7:30 you have met me buddy 😂 That part with Conan they used as the movie clip when Matt and Trey were interviewed by Conan around the time they released this movie.
Matt and Trey both went to college for music and theatrical arts, all their movies are musicals. Cannibal The Musical is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen.
Sadam was still alive when this movie came out, so after he was captured by the US, the soldiers guarding him forced him to watch this movie repeatedly and would have him autograph copies of the videos. Occasionally you can still find autographed copies for sale.
Great reaction! This was a musical because most animated films made before the 2000’s were all musicals. My favorite episode of South Park is Imagination Land, which at one time was going to be the sequel to this movie. They instead decided to spread it out over 3 episodes.
Both Trey and Matt went to school for music, it's why Book of Mormon was so phenomenal and won so many awards. They just kinda happen to be hilarious too and made it big with that first.
"What did Kenny do to deserve going to hell?" The quick answer is: he skipped church to see a movie. The longer answer is: he's one of the raunchiest of the children. The REAL answer: In South Park, only Mormons go to heaven

The first South Park video game was actually just called South Park... it was a first person shooter for the N64. The Fractured But Whole came out much later.
Almost every song in this is a parody from something. The opening song is the opening to "Beauty and the Beast", "Uncle #$÷@&*" parodies "Oklahoma", the Les Mes song, a song from "Rent", Kyle's mom parodies "It's a Small World", there's a few I'm missing, but I'm sure someone wrote an article about it somewhere. 😂
Fun Fact: The song “Blame Canada” was nominated for Best Song at the Oscars but lost to Phil Collins for “You’ll be in my Heart” from Tarzan. The creators of South Park said that they knew they were gonna lose but were shocked it was to Collins. As a way to show their frustration, they made an episode mocking Collins and his Oscar victory.
I remember watching the premiere of the pilot episode at 9pm and then recording the replay of that episode at 11pm because, while I thought it was hilarious, I assumed this was a show that would be lucky to make it 6 episodes before it got canceled/negative public reaction to the script forced its shutdown. I was like, "I need to save this and show it to my friends before its gone forever!"
If you listen to the words of the song by Metallica, Kenny "didn't go to church and said naughty words, now this is your hotel! Hell isn't good Hell isn't good It's HEEEELLL!!!“ 😂😂😂😂
Top tier editing! May I make a small request? When you throw text jokes could they stay on screen just a second longer, I find myself rewinding and pausing to catch the jokes. Keep up the great work!
I'd have to say my favorite songs are Kyle's Mom's a Bitch, La Resistance (a hilarious nod at Les Miserables - I definitely like this South Park musical more than Les Miserables, though), and Satan's song. They're the ones that get stuck in my head the most, at least. My favorite South Park episode has to be Woodland Critter Christmas (season 8 finale). I also love a lot of the episodes where Butters plays a big role (Good Times with Weapons, AWESOM-O, The Death of Eric Cartman, Marjorine, Butters' Bottom Bitch, etc).
terrence and phillip weren't a thing when the show first came out, but people kept criticizing south park and saying "this is nothing but bad animation and fart jokes"....so matt stone and trey parker went.." no no...THIS is nothing but bad animation and fart jokes" and created terrence and phillip
A couple fun facts: When watching South Park, you can sometimes see what Kenny is saying when you turn on the subtitles. More so during the newer stuff. Kenny's lines are actually written out for Stone and Parker. Parker and Stone are big into music. They even have a Tony-winning Broadway show called The Book of Mormon. Might wanna check out their 25th Anniversary concert at the Red Rocks in Colorado. Many news people in the early seasons were completely crazy like The Quadriplegic Swiss Man on a Pony, A Good Looking Guy with a Funny Name (Creamy Goodness), and others like that. As far as my favorite song in this, it's got to be La Resistance. Overall best song for me has to be Let's Fighting Love from the episode Good Time With Weapons. An entire episode made in a Japanese anime style.

LMAO, getting his Barry White on. more like getting his Isaac Hayes on, i think ;P
Not gonna lie, when this popped up (never saw you channel before) I skipped to the emancipation proclamation part. Subscribed lol
If you listen to the words of the song by Metallica, Kenny "didn't go to church and said naughty words, now this is your hotel!
Hell isn't good
Hell isn't good
It's HEEEELLL!!!“
😂😂😂😂
31:34 Well, where else is he gonna go? Detroit?
"What did Kenny do to deserve to go to Hell???"
You heard his momma earlier: he didn't go to church 😂
I absolutely LOST it when you called a Goat a Boat 😭
25:38😂
fun fact, when the US marines captured saddam hussein they forced him to watch this movie before he was exictued
Interesting
Satan gets the "I want song" which is usualy the second song in a musical to introduce the audience to the protagonist and their motivation.
Top tier editing! May I make a small request? When you throw text jokes could they stay on screen just a second longer, I find myself rewinding and pausing to catch the jokes. Keep up the great work!
One of the jokes in south park for heven and hell is that the Mormon were right so everyone else goes to hell
Can’t forget the “butters episode” where he even had his own theme song. I named one of my dogs butters. He’s definitely my favorite character.
"Did the mommy cheat or did the daddy cheat?"
............. no one had "the talk" with you, did they?
It's south park, anything goes
Well, you know what neurotypicals are like - they absolutely *suck* at anatomy.
terrence and phillip weren't a thing when the show first came out, but people kept criticizing south park and saying "this is nothing but bad animation and fart jokes"....so matt stone and trey parker went.." no no...THIS is nothing but bad animation and fart jokes" and created terrence and phillip
Canadian here. We don’t really say a-BOOT. Well, USUALLY not. 😆
A couple fun facts:
When watching South Park, you can sometimes see what Kenny is saying when you turn on the subtitles.
Brian Boitano is a revered and respected figure skater. Also highly decorated.
