At least Young Animal and Doom Patrol are back. That's one good thing. And the whole setup with the Watchmen and Rebirth as a whole was initially really good and interesting. But since 2018 DC had been having problems. They had a good thing going for awhile just to shit on their own work.

Is it wrong to blame Bordertown for Vertigo’s demise? Also, Arron; Batman is GETTING HIS ASS WHOOPED BY THE HULK RIGHT NOW!!! The Vertigo books might do fine!
it was all of those new series. they were bad. all of them. also bordertown was pretty racist towards minorities and stereotyped them by their race. and the whole if u disagree with illegal immigration then you're a trump supporting gun wielding nazi. zoe quinn (the girl that started GG by sleeping with a critic and then playing the victim after being exposed) and that dude who tweeted his ass at ethan van sciver didn't help either. the book making fun of Christians didn't piss off people because it was attacking their religion but because it was a double standard, as many people said: "u would never see them mocking Islam". this new vertigo relaunch was super politically motivated, it had nothing to do with telling good stories. but to be honest vertigo died when hellblazer was cancelled. blame didio and bob harras for that smart move.
@@21swords76 okay dude I'm not trying to start an argument here but first off I don't think being political equals bad comic books have been political the whole time also I don't care what happens to Ethan van sciver where he swindled people out of their money in with a book that he never released I never read these books so you might be right i just don't think being political is going to do anything to Comics because they've always done that okay not trying to start an argument here I'm just saying that it's not unusual for politics in Comics or any form of media for that matter
@@thenightmonkey5932 ofc politics are okay. the problem is when it's heavy handed politics over story. when the message is you're racist or open the borders or you're a nazi then it's bad. the problem is that most writers these days ain't claremont, he showed both sides equally and fairly and never pushed an agenda. that's not the case with most writers and artists these days. also ethan van sciver did apologize for the delay and he says it will ship soon. if it doesn't I will be pissed because I supported his kickstarter. Okay, but like, I am going to go out and stand by the Harleen Book, because that one is being handled by an amazing author who has shown his ability to cover this topic before in some smaller (though unfortunately now gone) comics he had drawn in the past covering Harley's character.
I begin that general think how DC comics is they most would change their change their name to Batman Comics and then have Batman appear in every comics they produce if they thought it would make them more money than Marvel. we are talking about the same company cancelled Swamp thing after the first episode aired or wanting to get to The Avengers style team box office smash with just the Man of Steel as the starting film .or are complain the DC universe streaming service not doing Netflix or Amazon money only releasing it in the United States
I think they were thinking of it like. Okay we're not canceling it we're just using it to promote bat sorry black label but everything youbsaid is valid.
Wasn't vertigo gonna continue doing wytches and American vampire this year? Now I'm bummed that wont happen either on top of everything else thorgi said.
Honestly i'm just glad the Sandman Universe books (as of now anyway) will be continuing. Overall my biggest gripe is DC having different books in different imprints helped things feel more organized & curated. And yes I know they'll keep doing their Vertigo, Young Animal and Kid/Young Adult Ink/Zoom books just without a unique label, but it's still annoying. DC homogenizing things could make things as chaotic as Marvel's book curation/collected editions have been for over a decade now (No offense). But yea, overall its annoying DC needs to stop its over dependence on Batman, I mean even Marvel broke away from its over-dependence on X-Men (albeit in the worst possible way) Also may be in the minority but gonna miss the Hannah-Barbera Books. :(
Also I wonder how much of this is "impulse" and how much is a forced moved from Higher-ups at Warner Media or AT&T!? I think doing things even remotely right or being creative doesn't seem to be what big corps want, as said they sadly just want money. :( I will say though I do understand DC not waiting till Doomsday Clock is over to bring back the Legion in a new Millennium event or JSA in Doom War in Justice League in September, given the final issue probably won't be out till November at this point. Though i'm sure it'll still find a way to fold/consolidate all the events that happened since it started and a Proper JSA ongoing probably won't start till 2020
That's the point. These writers will probably graually feel the pressure to be more like Scott Snyder. He's saying that when they end, they'll get DC book replacements.
On the subject of rapidly changing course and the Black Label itself, I still find it funny in retrospect how mature and uncensored the line was pitched as and that there were no limits. Yet, the second the Internet and late night hosts made jokes about "lol, Bat-dong" (guilty, I might admit) they went and republished Damned #1 and turned the first attempt at this principle into a collector's item.
Dc is really struggling so they’re desperately trying to stay afloat by pushing Batman to a point of over saturation because he’s their main money maker. So sad, dc has so much potential
Are we going to pretend that Sejic is just going to write a conventional Batman/Harley Book? Don't get me wrong, it is Batman adjacent and Sejic isn't a new face, but he's also a guy that doesn't get tons of jobs and does tons of cool and interesting things. If anything, I hope this goes well and they let him write and draw a Wonder Woman, because I love his Wondy.
Vertigo was really cool because it was able to stand on its two feet without really using any of the big names that sell any of their books they didn't use Superman they hardly ever use Batman it was mostly characters that the character sold the story because the story was very bold and badass that's the impression I got for vertigo. Yeah vertical deathly gave a lot of creators that have bold and Innovative stories a voice that really have a chance to let their story be told. It feels weird that it's at me it just I don't want it the end man it doesn't feel right what I want to do without vertigo around. Even though I'm a much more of a Marvel guy but vertigo was something that made DC special because it was able to allow like you said the video creators to tell bold and Innovative stories. Yeah man this sucks. But hey man I think that image and all the independent companies we'll start getting some of those Innovative stories coming down their way because of vertigo is that supposed goodbye. This is like a lost for DC and in a lot of ways it's a win for image and Aftershock in a few other companies to pick those type of stories and really run with them. It's just I shouldn't be mad but yet I am but I shouldn't focus on the anger and it just it's not good to focus on the anger. So I'm just at a Crossroads because I don't know what I'm going to do without vertigo I'll be honestly as a Marvel fan I don't know what we'd do without the vertigo because I do read DC and vertigo line
Another casualty of the Vertigo demise will be Astro City being published at DC in future. It's anything but Black Label material and I feel like its quiet exit last year as a monthly title is anything but a coincidence. No amount of Batman books can make up the difference.
One of the comics I did hold into from my youth is death the High Cost of Living and I managed to get them signed when I was like twelve... pre-internet s*** well AOL
I hate saying that that they fire some of the executives and hire some new blood. But at this point maybe they should so we can have a clearer image of what is going on. I don't know maybe hire executives who are in the publishing business and not just some random person who never had any experience with it. I know it might not help in the end but it never hurts to suggest it.
I'm not at all interested in any of the 'new imprint; offerings. One by one, I've been dropping my DC books and until now, this week, I was holding onto to Justice League but I read #26 and realised how utterly boring it was and decided to drop it. As I did with Marvel a few years ago...I will no longer be buying any DC books until they get their act together.
I feel like even for the past few years people were just doing what vertigo did but at Image instead. Im not upset mostly because it feels like Image is just what vertigo was at its prime.
Which is ironic as this was the stated goal of Image's founders (one of whom was Jim Lee, who went on to climb DC's corporate ladder) but the goal was to become moguls for most of them.
And the thing is Joe Hill (and I mean this in the kindest way possible) is that they kinda... don't need him. They literally have James Tynion who is an AMAZING fucking horror writer already!!
So did the “brilliant” architects behind WBs DCEU films get fired and move over to run DC Comics after the AT&T merger!? Cause thats what it feels like frankly! Lmao!

@@gabrielhughes8221 but at the same time all those new series they're going to be dark they have to compete with Batman.
It's not really giving them a opportunity to shine if they have to compete with Batman.
Most of the Black Label has been Batman and one Superman story that is it and a Harley Quinn story that's coming up soon but mostly Batman.
Not giving new voices a chance to be heard they have to compete with veterans there in the imprint right now it's not letting these new voices get a time to shine and may see the next innovators of the industry
@@gabrielhughes8221 I mean there's other avenues for these next generation of writers and artists the go through but like vertigo took the time of not really worried about half have huge names in the imprint and let series have a time to really show what it was made of it give writers that really good voices
@@gabrielhughes8221 I'm not saying Black Label will not be great that's not what I'm saying but at the same time I just feel that really vertigo should still be around I'll be if they want to promote Black Label that's fine but it's just booked for be mostly just Batman and I don't like that.
I mean I love that bad but I rather Black Label stand on its two feet without any of the Big names really pushing for it.
What the reasons why I like where to go because it didn't have super big names like Superman Batman Wonder Woman Etc to really push that there was great books there it had characters that you really did not know could be potential Big names it gave them a chance to shine.
And we got a lot of amazing work non the last few years but we had a really great stuff
No more Batman please! NO MORE BATMAN!
Has it been confirmed it was hulk outselling batman that got king kicked off? Ive also heard reports there was general disappointment in the sales outside of that and some higher ups didnt like what he was doing
That played a bigger role in the decision to get King off of Batman early. The Immortal Hulk outselling Batman was the factor that gave DC a reason to pull the trigger.
I have always had a bias for Marvel over DC for multiple reasons, can you blame me after watching this video
Lets be honest, marvel wasnt exactly smooth sailing after secret wars
megamonmon yup indeed
megamonmon wasn't going too well before either
Nobody cares about u
You made an excellent video here. You voiced well reasoned concerns without going over to the dark side of rage culture. You've earned a sub. I like the way you roll.
I thought batman damned was going to be talked about in detail. But yeah, goddamnit!!!! DC, why cancel it!!!!, FFFFFUUUUUUUU@%%%%!!!
They didn't cancel it, they delayed it.
At least Young Animal and Doom Patrol are back. That's one good thing. And the whole setup with the Watchmen and Rebirth as a whole was initially really good and interesting. But since 2018 DC had been having problems. They had a good thing going for awhile just to shit on their own work.
I'm so done 😂😂💀 your intro is so funny!
We need a management restructuring over there stat.
Death...you were too good for Vertigo. I'm gonna miss u beautiful.
DC seems to be panicking and then going with the option who gets them most money in the short term as a way to "fix everything". I was excited for DC Black label until i saw it was mostly Batman being weird. And i love batman, but man... I'm sad vertigo is gone cause i was just starting to get into them. My faves are now Oni press and I'm just gonna pick up DC randomly. Do a vertigo recs vid though, please?
I'm speaking from my experience so take it with a grain of salt. This my be the basic bitch answer but hop over to Image, Image is your friend. If you dont know what they have or might intrest you go to their website, they classify all their stuff by genre if you like westerns click on westerns and see what intrests you. There's even blog like posts that tell you the currently running comics per genre. Sorry i know it's basic but Image good. And there's Vault comics, BOOM comics are pretty nice and current Archie if you want dumb teenage drama fluff
Wait, so the Other History has actually been cancelled? I just thought it was being delayed indefinitely
That's code for cancelled, they said the same thing for all star batman and robin
Watching the fire burn higher and higher.
The fire rises...
I'm always Leery of people who use the term "new voices"...it's right up there with "my truth"
But just because your book has been delayed doesn't mean u deserve to have a man sexually assault u (yes that is a form of assault). if it was a man doing it to a woman I bet u would think differently.
Yup it is wrong. That was ONE bad book
@@nikolasmokalis3425 that's your opinion.
So do that mean the DC continuity black Label comic going to be Canon or cannon?? Writers was talking about it. Because it's kniw as Elseworld comics.
it's gonna probably be in that grey area that the killing joke is in of parts being cannon
This is why I barely read dc or marvel comics the terrifics and immortal hulk are the only exceptions give me Image comics, idw, dark horse or any independent comic label any day this is coming from a former dc and marvel comic fan.
The intro was hilarious lol, Marvel low key does the same thing with Spiderman. When in doubt just pitch a new spiderman or batman series and it will sell
It might be 3 for 3 if that wally west rumor is true.
14:42 - I think I found another fan of Jim F---ing Sterlingson.
Okay, but like, I am going to go out and stand by the Harleen Book, because that one is being handled by an amazing author who has shown his ability to cover this topic before in some smaller (though unfortunately now gone) comics he had drawn in the past covering Harley's character.
This was a long time coming. I thought this was going to happen after Flashpoint when they merged the other lines.
What the.... Is this what it's like when people see Clark Kent without his glasses?
I begin that general think how DC comics is they most would change their change their name to Batman Comics and then have Batman appear in every comics they produce if they thought it would make them more money than Marvel.
we are talking about the same company cancelled Swamp thing after the first episode aired or wanting to get to The Avengers style team box office smash with just the Man of Steel as the starting film .or are complain the DC universe streaming service not doing Netflix or Amazon money only releasing it in the United States
From what I understand they cancelled swamp thing cause its expensive to make and they didnt get the tax return they were supposed 2 unfortunately
Like "Black Label is going do better than Vertigo ,All those other "IMPRINT" Wonder Comics, & Jinx world, Even the basic Comics really do SUCK
Alex Bailey I think wytches is image?
@@nikolasmokalis3425 oh right. I had forgotten that.
But yea, overall its annoying DC needs to stop its over dependence on Batman, I mean even Marvel broke away from its over-dependence on X-Men (albeit in the worst possible way)
Also may be in the minority but gonna miss the Hannah-Barbera Books. :(
Also I wonder how much of this is "impulse" and how much is a forced moved from Higher-ups at Warner Media or AT&T!? I think doing things even remotely right or being creative doesn't seem to be what big corps want, as said they sadly just want money. :(
I will say though I do understand DC not waiting till Doomsday Clock is over to bring back the Legion in a new Millennium event or JSA in Doom War in Justice League in September, given the final issue probably won't be out till November at this point. Though i'm sure it'll still find a way to fold/consolidate all the events that happened since it started and a Proper JSA ongoing probably won't start till 2020
I'm going to miss the sandman titles like Lucifer and the dreaming
Sandman and Lucifer still going to be around. Just move over . I'd just hope their make it better and more interesting
Sandman universe is joining black label and their adding Hellblazer to it
I'm pretty sure that Vertigo will become Just part of Black Label.
That's the point. These writers will probably graually feel the pressure to be more like Scott Snyder. He's saying that when they end, they'll get DC book replacements.
Yeah I would also agree about DC's Black Label it's just mostly Batman titles just with adult themes.
What is Hill House? It's weird, also that semi-Conan new Black Label book... They could just have Vertigo under Black Label.
Great intro man this was really funny
No I liked vertigo comics
Me to man
Nice, the only form of DC comics I used to read. Bye, I guess
I wonder is there a way to find out how much it would cost to get every comic that has batman in it for every single month......
🎶 Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah Bat-Butt🎶
A fellow Jimpressions watcher
😂 best intro I’ve seen
True
Maybe they're doing it to diversify Black Label. It's still a bad idea, but maybe that's DC's thought process
One of the comics I did hold into from my youth is death the High Cost of Living and I managed to get them signed when I was like twelve... pre-internet s*** well AOL
Sounds like this decision will be great for Image
I love this new guy
Oversaturation is a damn plague at DC
I hate saying that that they fire some of the executives and hire some new blood. But at this point maybe they should so we can have a clearer image of what is going on. I don't know maybe hire executives who are in the publishing business and not just some random person who never had any experience with it. I know it might not help in the end but it never hurts to suggest it.
Other than Last Knight On Earth, I'm disappointed
I'm not at all interested in any of the 'new imprint; offerings. One by one, I've been dropping my DC books and until now, this week, I was holding onto to Justice League but I read #26 and realised how utterly boring it was and decided to drop it. As I did with Marvel a few years ago...I will no longer be buying any DC books until they get their act together.
The intro gets me every time🤣🤣, you are hilarious
I feel like even for the past few years people were just doing what vertigo did but at Image instead. Im not upset mostly because it feels like Image is just what vertigo was at its prime.
Which is ironic as this was the stated goal of Image's founders (one of whom was Jim Lee, who went on to climb DC's corporate ladder) but the goal was to become moguls for most of them.
All your fears came true....
And the thing is Joe Hill (and I mean this in the kindest way possible) is that they kinda... don't need him. They literally have James Tynion who is an AMAZING fucking horror writer already!!
You look a bit like...Frank Miller
Healthier and saner than Miller.
So did the “brilliant” architects behind WBs DCEU films get fired and move over to run DC Comics after the AT&T merger!? Cause thats what it feels like frankly! Lmao!
Well that mind would of been Geoff Johns. So im guessing not.
And we all know who to blame
