"The Car" is directly tied into the first issue of Action Comics. In the issue the guy with the green hat tries to run over Superman thinking he was a normal man, he doesn't hit Superman. Superman jumps over the car, lifts it and smashes like we see on the cover. in "The Car" you can even see Lois in the back seat when it flashes back. That's because green hat guy kidnapped her for not wanting to dance with him.
I used to hate Superman when I was a kid, but now that I'm a young adult and kinda just entering adulthood I've come to enjoy and respect the character of Superman and his stories. Which is funny because usually people say that you like Superman when you're a child and then you grow out of him, but it's actually the exact opposite for me. Happy 80th birthday, Supes!
Chad Benjamin Eh, for me it was kinda different. I didn't really start showing any type of interest in Superman until I got in my teens. I liked Batman as a kid because I had a thing for characters with masks and a certain mystique to them. And spending my early childhood watching shows like Justice League/Justice League Unlimited only encouraged me to like him more. If I remember correctly they pretty much tried to make Batman outshine almost everyone, including Superman, or at least that's what it seemed like to me when I was a kid (I haven't seen the show in years, so I'm not sure). I think that's partially the reason why Batman's fanbase has become kinda gross with the way they overhype him sometimes. I mean, I still like Batman, but a good chunk of his fanbase is ridiculous.
I Am The Master Baiter Bro I had the same problem as a kid my first favorite super hero of all time was Spider-Man I've loved him since I was like two year's old i used to watch the first movie with tobey maguire over and over and Spider-man 2 but then Spider-man three came out and man was it awful well maybe not awful but there could have been a few minor tweaks they could have did to make the movie better but Sam Raimi was forced to use Venom in the movie instead of using Sandman and the Vulture and useing Venom for a fourth movie but Andrew Garfield was also good too but Tom Holland really nailed the fuck out of his role as Spider-man and Peter Parker but when I was in my early teens I started to show more of an interest in Batman when I was in my teen years when the Dark Knight and Batman arkham asylum first released a real Fucking crying shame the arkham series ended best video game franchise ever but don't even get me started on The Dark Knight Rises it was just complete shit that cock lickin film was just Fucking lazy but now after they have come and gone (the arkham games) now I am in my early adult hood and I am now interested in Superman lmmfao I don't I mean it's a little awkward to me I mean don't get me wrong I still love Spider-man and Batman but to me I think Spider-man is kind of more like a hero for little kids and that Batman and Superman are for more mature teens and adults well guess we all grow up sometimes right ?
You know....it’s an actual freaking miracle that such a niche section of a certain medium like a comic book reaches this milestone given that within the 80 years that Superman and Action Comics, who knows how many other mediums like print or television has declined or even faded away like the Drive In theater. Respect Siegel and Shuster...RESPECT
As an avid Superman fan, it saddens me to think that Action Comics would have hit this milestone 2 years ago if the New 52 wouldnt have reset the numbering on all comics, and Detective Comics would be at number 1000 right around now :/
It's been awesome hearing so much praise for this issue over the past couple days. If I didn't already pull 40+ new issues each week, I would have bought every single decade variant.
Jon didn't even grow up in Hamilton. He grew up in California. They'd just moved to Hamilton in Rebirth. He was there for like... 6 months in comic time. Superman #45 was more Tomasi and Gleason saying their goodbyes than the Kent's.
I would have been FINE with Bendis writing Superman like a street level hero while Snyder does the crazy stuff over in Justice League. That would have been a refreshing change of pace. Seeing him write Superman as equal parts reporter and hero would have been interesting. Hopefully he just gets this space shit out of his system quickly.
DC are absolutely crazy for kicking Tomasi/Gleason off of Superman. I really can't believe it, and I'm so disappointed. So much for the Super Sons too, I feel like there was so much more story left to tell. 😑
BeardedDudeFromSpace super sons & supergirl will be back, they jist ended so far because Bendis is making a story that will affect them all ( hopefully bendis won't ruin it all ;n; )
I suffered through Bendis destroying characters that I love for over a decade; my condolences to Superman fans who are going to have to put up with his crap for the next 5+ years.
i think you forgot one story about superman and lex ( i think it's placed on the silver age) of both of them playing chess and superman trying to look for the good of Luthor. Other than that, i agree with everything you said, my favourite one was "the car". Keep the good work on the cahnnel
"the car" was literally about the car from the action comics cover. At least, that's what I assumed. It's my favorite story out of all the ones in this book.
And now Bendis is coming in and everything is getting worrisome because I don’t think Bendis gets Superman, Tomasi got him and so have all these other writers, but I don’t think Bendis gets him so it looks like everything’s going to crap.
Superman #45 is actually the perfect way to end your Superman marathon. Kinda wish it was the final story in action comics but it's a good conclusion to Superman rebirth.
Bendis sucks. He is the best Exempel for a writer that outstayed his hype. Hate it that he took over Superman. Tamadi did a amazing job and is for me now the better writer between the 2. They should have gave Bendis the Damage Comic.
"The Car" actually is a direct sequel to that Action Comics #1 story. I didn't know at first either, but apparently the car hit Superman before he picked it up.
Superman's powers have nothing to do with his bravery, it's the symbol he wears that drives his bravery, he's fought people stronger than himself and has admitted many times there are times when he's genuinely afraid, yet he does whatever he can for the people. He flew headfirst into doomsday for round 2 knowing full well his powers means dick to it. He's fought gods, new gods, reality warpers, beings that are above him in this plane all for "HOPE And there are MULTIPLE scenarios of Clark either landing on earth differently, being raised differently, or losing his powers and still fighting either out the love of his friends, are to help his friends. That's literally the point and and core of the character And that’s what I love about this character
This book was great. I bought all the covers at a midnight release party at my LCS where Tom King signed them all. Great night. Great read. Great vid, Thorgi.
The only thing I missed, was a Story Illustrated by one of the most Important and most talented artists to date. Alex Ross. If we couldve gotten a Story illustrated by him I would've been so incredibly happy.
Thorgi, the Marv Wolfman story was actually 4 pages of found panels from some artist who has passed away and he was asked to make a story out of them. If that makes any difference to you.
Great video! Truly an iconic moment in history that WE can say that we lived in. Action Comics #1000 was good, not gonna complain too much about it, but for 80 pages, I would have liked to have seen a one-page bio on Jerry Siegel, and a one-page bio on Joe Shuster. In THAT regard, DC dropped the ball because we wouldnt even HAVE Superman or Action Comics without these two instrumental giants of the comic book industry. My favorite cover of Action Comics #1000 is Gabriele Dell Otto. To me it seems to 1) pay homage to Christopher Reeve, 2) seems to place Superman in a "King" position of royalty because after all, he IS the King of superheroes, and 3)...well...after 80 years of fighting villains shouldnt anyone deserve a rest break? Have a great week!
Now I know that it sucks that Peter J Tomasi was kicked off Superman but just think about it. Peter Tomasi's Superman run is announced to end, one week later Robert Vendittis run on Green Lantern Corps is announced to end. Hmmm.
That Simpsons Gabbo thing you're talking about was really Burns confusing Gabbo with Garbo. That's why Smithers was dismissive, Burns was happy about that Garbo chick.
the car story is what happen after action comics number one, you should read it again, Lois is in the back of the car and superman says that he forced women to dance with him. i read the scott snyder story as lex realizing that superman is clark and if he erase superman he would die to and trying to decide.
Nothing about Superman vs a giant space monster is "real." This was just a teaser, so I'll wait until Man of Steel 1 to fully judge Bendis on Superman.
Man, i felt exactly the same way with all your points. Sadly i already made the mistake of pre ordering the Man of Steele mini series from HoneyBendis, cuz i had to make the order before Action Comics #1000 and thought ill give him the benefit of the doubt. Mistake were made. I'm not like this story one bit. That scene in the coffee shop was like an episode of Seinfeld if it took part in Metropolis
I'm wearing a glow in the dark superman shirt rn 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 but how can you not own a superman shirt he is the best super hero ever and he was the first dc hero ever made
As someone who DID NOT like Superman Pre-Rebirth, I am so fucking mad about this. Tomasi made me love Superman. It's been one of my favourite books out of Rebirth. I'm not supporting Bendis until he proves himself. But probably by that time whatever good he brings, he'll quickly ruin. Fuck this.
Am I the only one that feels it's time we do away with the red trunks? They were part of his costume because in the early 1900's circus strongmen wore trunks on the outside, and Jerry and Joe wanted him to look strong. Now it just looks odd and outdated.
Julio Garcia seven years vs 70+ years of him wearing them. It's time we move on. They were an effective visual statement when he was created, but that was a very long time ago. Now they're just unnecessary.
Though I agree that they are unnecessary for function, they are definitely needed for color break up. Maybe a complete redesign but, I personally like the trunks.
Some lowlife punk stole my Superman shirt off my clothesline during the small hours!!!! It was an Under Armour MoS navy shirt that I'm having trouble trying to track down another....
Didn't you read that promo stuff the 'big' question for the superman books is "What happened to Lois and Jon?" There's an easy answer to that Bendis didn't want to write them. The guy is a handful of pages and he already retconned the death of krypton even though in Tom Kings story and in this weeks Superman it was important that krypton just died. Somebody should've warned DC editorial. 1610 wasn't to save new readers for decades of continuity, that's just the spin. It was so Bendis could ignore all of it. I'm gonna enjoy this garbage fire
Marv Wolfman's story was made by taking unused Curt Swan artwork and repurposing it. Its totally understandable that its one of the weaker stories. Just the fact that it used the legendary Curt Swan's art makes it really special. Bendis' story shouldn't have even been in 1000 imo. It didn't fit the whole spirit of the rest of the issue. Bendis can write brilliantly human characters. I would rather have seen Bendis focus more on that and tell a standalone story rather than set up another story. Every single story in action 1000 can be read as a brilliant one-shot standalone tale. Except Bendis'.
One piece does chapters by the week with fewer pages so it really doesn't count. Also if you include the other Superman comics like Action,Superman and Man of Steel it's over 3000 lol
Doesnt count since its weekly and less pages. When one piece reaches 1000 then celebrate. Plus unlike Action comics, one piece will have an end (unless the shonen franchise milks it like dragom ball)
Having the comics selling every two week did speed-up the amount in numbers we won't be 80years old if this was still selling monthly? Where have you been ?Didn't you know that Villains are now reformed Heroes" Take Suicide Squad, all of them, Harley Quinn & Deathstroke, even the Joker & Lex Luthor are heroes Now, There Not Villains, they're people with Bad-judgement ,you can get away with that. Shame a good comic book can't be adapted into a movie? Superman need that.
"The Car" is directly tied into the first issue of Action Comics.

Pass the Salt
Agreed!

I think you like Superman when you're a kid, then you like Batman when you're an edgy teen and then you go back to liking Superman once you mature.

I feel the same way

I Am The Master Baiter Yep, Happy 80th birthday.

I feel the need to point out that while Doctor Who isn't as old, it's still really old and still going strong.
Luna Snyder LOL silly me XD
Respect to Doctor Who as well
As an avid Superman fan, it saddens me to think that Action Comics would have hit this milestone 2 years ago if the New 52 wouldnt have reset the numbering on all comics, and Detective Comics would be at number 1000 right around now :/
I'm disappointed that we didn't get some Alex Ross art.
Jacob G same!
Jacob G I think he's got a Marvel contract right now
Jacob G I'm disappointed that he didn't wear a superman shirt in this video
I think it’s in one of the variant covers to show off the golden age.
It's been awesome hearing so much praise for this issue over the past couple days. If I didn't already pull 40+ new issues each week, I would have bought every single decade variant.
I should mention that it is also Zimbabwe's 38th Independence Day. And we currently have a cabinet member named Supa Mandiwanzira, sooooooo.....
Cyril Makwembere woah
Ungreatful Duck (´-ω-`) Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. You'll break the new continuity.
Is he from krypton?
Illuminati confirmed?
Jon didn't even grow up in Hamilton. He grew up in California. They'd just moved to Hamilton in Rebirth. He was there for like... 6 months in comic time. Superman #45 was more Tomasi and Gleason saying their goodbyes than the Kent's.
In Superman we trust
Axel Tman
Truth
Justice
And
The American Way
Bendis works best with street level heroes... the moment he moves anywhere outside that? HOO BOY
I would have been FINE with Bendis writing Superman like a street level hero while Snyder does the crazy stuff over in Justice League. That would have been a refreshing change of pace. Oh man when you started playing the classic Superman Animated Series theme while talking about Tomasi's final story I seriously started tearing up
Loved Action Comics 1000 buuuuuut I CANT WAIT FOR DETECTIVE COMICS 1000! WHOS WITH ME?!
I suffered through Bendis destroying characters that I love for over a decade; my condolences to Superman fans who are going to have to put up with his crap for the next 5+ years.
Oh i wished you were joking I really did but turns out you were right from the very beginning
i think you forgot one story about superman and lex ( i think it's placed on the silver age) of both of them playing chess and superman trying to look for the good of Luthor.
Other than that, i agree with everything you said, my favourite one was "the car".
Keep the good work on the cahnnel
Santiago Romano That story wasn't included in the physical copy of Action Comics 1000
"the car" was literally about the car from the action comics cover. At least, that's what I assumed. It's my favorite story out of all the ones in this book.

Yea I was thinking the same thing when I saw Deathstroke in that shot!
Bandis will write Action Comic ... PANIC ... PANIC ... PANIC ... PANIC ... PANIC
so the whole "BENDIS IS COMMING " they had on the averts was actually a threat.
The only bad thing about this issue was Rogol Zaar, who resembles a villain rejected from Youngblood because his design was too ridiculous.
Superman #45 is actually the perfect way to end your Superman marathon. Kinda wish it was the final story in action comics but it's a good conclusion to Superman rebirth.
6:54 Oh wow I didn't even notice. lol
Yay action conics 1000
kinda wish you did what superboy prime did and drew the s on your chest
True actually Prime CARVED that S on himself.....not exactly the smartest way to get Superman merchandise :-/
not sure if thorgi has the power to carve it into himself so i settled with drawing
True Yeah true enough :-)
Overall though, good video
Bendis sucks. He is the best Exempel for a writer that outstayed his hype. Hate it that he took over Superman. Tamadi did a amazing job and is for me now the better writer between the 2.
They should have gave Bendis the Damage Comic.
I would have given him blue beetle, batgirl, nightwing or maybe even detective, not batman though
Greg Pak and Aaron Kuder's Action run was freaking amazing!
"The Car" actually is a direct sequel to that Action Comics #1 story. I didn't know at first either, but apparently the car hit Superman before he picked it up.

If Bendis kills Johnathan Kent or have Clark and Lois divorce than we burn the world down Devilman style.
This book was great. I bought all the covers at a midnight release party at my LCS where Tom King signed them all. Great night. Great read. Great vid, Thorgi.
One small detail you didn't mention about the Marv Wolfman story, is drawn by legendary Superman artist Curt Swan..... who is been dead since 1996.
The only thing I missed, was a Story Illustrated by one of the most Important and most talented artists to date.
Alex Ross. If we couldve gotten a Story illustrated by him I would've been so incredibly happy.
you forgot to talk about "The Game" story line by Paul Levitz and Neal Adams
Great review, you make me want to buy this one. Have a great day and thx again.
That Bendis story + the melancholy last issue of Tomasi's Superman made me pretty sad. :'(
Thorgi, the Marv Wolfman story was actually 4 pages of found panels from some artist who has passed away and he was asked to make a story out of them. If that makes any difference to you.

bendis could have been worse i do like the guys weapon.
I'll admit. I felt a shout out to electric blue superman should have been done
Both Superman books? 😰
the car story is what happen after action comics number one, you should read it again, Lois is in the back of the car and superman says that he forced women to dance with him. i read the scott snyder story as lex realizing that superman is clark and if he erase superman he would die to and trying to decide.
Dude, You Rock!
Hey Thorgi! But what did you think of the premise of why the generic alien was there?
Loved that opening.
Nothing about Superman vs a giant space monster is "real." This was just a teaser, so I'll wait until Man of Steel 1 to fully judge Bendis on Superman.
Retcon Man is here..
Man, i felt exactly the same way with all your points. Talk about the Neal Adams story, you dammed Golem!
Great review! (I'm going to get the issue.) I especially like your "Speeding Bullet" review/description. I think of it as the Anti-Zack Snyder story.
Dexx Star plushie is amazing btw!
Wait, you never read Superman under Dan Jurgens?
I hate Clark and Lex being friends when they Were boys. WHO DOESN'T RECOGNISE THEIR CHILDHOOD FRIENDS!?
Ciaran Murren But they weren’t ffriends. Same school, same class (I think) but not friends. Why would the child genius look at the farm boy?
Waiting for BND Clark kent version. Oh wait, Quesada's not here xD
It's an awesome book. I got to get my copy of it.
Did Thorgi forget the story where Superman plays a game of chess with Lex?
GonicWarrior921 Apparently it's in the digital version? It's not in our print version.
jabezcreed That's weird 😅
GonicWarrior921 Yeah. And I think the digital did not include a few pin up images. Maybe it was a tradeoff?
Won't be long till we get super heart
Who signed it?
Joe Moran Dan Jurgens, probably. He did sign an Action Comics 1000 issue on TV, after all.
Sorry it's 2 years late but that's Peter Tomaso's signature
Ultimate Spidey, Daredevil, and Iron Men were great. He just needs to leave team books alone.
.... Seriously? Superman is wearing the trunks again? Goddamnit...
20:50 This story remind me of an old FanFic I read long time ago, Best Superman fanfic by the way
www.fanfiction.net/s/4247639/1/Imagine-That
You kept saying "storyline" when you mean "story."
Don't you run a comicbook shop? Take one off the shelf
You had seven years of no trunks. It's time we get them back.
The thing is that, with the way the belt is, MORE attention is drawn to his crotch than when he has the trunks.
No, no you are not. A lot of people don't like the trunks. And mostly, they are people who don't understand Superman.
Harley Quinn should not have been in that image either, she's a villain not a third rate Deadpool
Hearing peopple judge what Bendus can and can't do all the time gets really fucking annoying.
Bendis loves to make smart characters sound like shallow idiots.
I'm kind of glad he's DC's problem now
I been a superman reader almost 40 but I didn't read the new 52 superman cuz I didn't like the new look and he was not that powerful
I haaaaated the Bendis story. Why DC? Why are you dooming Superman to existence under the thumb of Bendis?
Superman, imma letcha finish, but one piece hit chapter/issue 900 and it only took 20 years with one author... OK carry on.
One piece does chapters by the week with fewer pages so it really doesn't count. Also if you include the other Superman comics like Action,Superman and Man of Steel it's over 3000 lol
You've already been told by now all of the other reasons which are true but he also said AMERICAN
Doesnt count since its weekly and less pages. When one piece reaches 1000 then celebrate. Plus unlike Action comics, one piece will have an end (unless the shonen franchise milks it like dragom ball)
But when the artist changes very issue who cares? I'm not buying that. Give me artist continuity.
My Caulifla would crush Super Man under her boot! you forgot about that part.
Having the comics selling every two week did speed-up the amount in numbers we won't be 80years old if this was still selling monthly? This is what I was thinking when I saw the "Bendis is coming"-adds
