Sandman, Hellblazer, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Fables, Sweet Tooth, Preacher, Transmetropolitan, Y: The Last Man, Lucifer, Ex Machina, Scalped, 100 Bullets, Coffin Hill, American Vampire, Astro City, Invisibles, DMZ... soooo many great titles which is absolutely all time classics. Can't believe that this imprint going down but i think it's cause of other companies, especially Image.
Came here to check back and sad to see he's still missing... damn shame, some of the few good youtubers end up leaving because RUclips's algorithm never gave them a chance
Damn been 9 months since this channel made video. I found this channel last year because i wanted to get into the hellboy comics and i would love and updated video on that reading list
I didn’t see not-a-one person bring up Grant Morrison’s Doom Patrol! Maybe I’ve got a poor taste for comics, but the run on Doom Patrol is one of my absolute all time favorites. There’s three big books, I’d suggest it to everybody who’s into the weird and wild and, maybe, slightly goofy. But it’s heartfelt, brilliant, conceptually psychedelic (and visually, sometimes, too). I tried watching the show and it felt so not even close to being as good. For real, check it out. All these other books are really good, too. Vertigo made most of all the best comics around. Seriously special.
Oh, P.S. Morrison’s Animal Man series was pretty fun, too, and it ties over with Doom Patrol (and the Invasion! event) in a few little ways here and there.
I think a few things led to the end of Vertigo...The firing of Karen Berger, and subsequent editors didn't seem to have a clear vision for the label. Probably most important, they changed the way the did contracts for creators, so it became less attractive for big name artists/writers. And then although it happened a few years before now, but moving DC's company owned properties back to either the main universe or Young Animal. The Vertigo revamp didn't really seem to know what it was going for and didn't know how to attract fand or creators who were looking towards indies ( Image, Dark Horse, etc).
I remember reading Codename: Knockout from Vertigo. First series I started collecting. It had about 24 issues, full of boobs and guns. Was awesome. I collected them all, including the alternate cover for the first issue. Was a great read and kept me going for about a year but a bit anti-climactic at the end. I started on another one then called Beware The Creeper, which was a murder mystery set in the 1920s in Paris. Great read. Only 5 issues but well worth it. I used to go to the middle pages and look for other Vertigo titles to start on but never got around to it, as I grew out of comics in my adulthood. Gave them all away to a serious collector friend of mine. Now I want them all back! Ha! Just started Preacher. I'm an old dude. I'm 35!
Hey there, haven’t found your email so decided to tell you here - just found your channel, you have great content imo, thank you for all the work! Please don’t take it down. 🙏
Y: The Last Man is a really good title. I got very invested in the story and the characters, while i wasn't a fan of the ending i still would highly recommend it. Scalped and Sweet Tooth are also ones i would highly recommend. Coffin Hill is an honorable mention cause it's an enjoyable title.
Bert Fechner Well supposedly Preacher could go out of print and Ennis could let some other comics company like Dynamite or Avatar publish it since he owns Preacher if he wanted to, Not that I’ve heard that’s going to happen.
When will you be back to making RUclips videos? I used to watch them years ago because they have a good pace and are informative. I just made my first video which is quite frankly terrible but thought I’d give it a go. You are one of the better reviewers out there and miss your updates. Come back!
Excellent choices, I never got around to reading Y: the last man, but given that the rest of the list is made up of most of my favourite comics I think I should probably put it next on my reading list. Slightly bemused that there's no Grant Morrisson works on the list, The Invisibles is for me the most imaginitive, innovative and challenging series of recent years, and also quite prophetic - forseeing a world of shifting identities and gender-fluidity. It's certainly not for everyone, but it's defintely up there with Sandman, Transmetropolitan and Preacher as one of the best. I'd also put other Morrisson works on the list, primarily We3 and The Filth. Really tragic to hear that Vertigo has come to an end, for years it's been a pretty reliable source of quality non-mainstream comics, and I get the feeling that DC black label is just going to be standard super-hero stuff with a bit more sex and gore. Now that comic adaptations have become the mainstream of cinema, it baffles me that all we get is the most pedestrian superhero guff, and the attempts to film anything interesting (V for Vendetta, Watchmen, not much else) have been competently made but missed the point almost completely.
Vertigo was my favorite publisher/imprint they remind me a lot of Image Comics where they have the freedom to tackle a wide variety topics and subject matter that the big two shy away from. I agree with the quality of the titles you listed and would personally add Astro City, Swamp thing, Sweet tooth and Scalped to name a few. Thanks for the spotlight on some great comics.
@@matthewm47 yeah that's one thing i was worried to bring up. It will be sad if all of the Vertigo books will be reprinted wil Black Label books, cause it would erase all of what Vertigo has done
I appreciate the effort but man, you used the exact same descriptors for each title. I think this channel would be a lot stronger if you approached your subjects with a little objectivity. Think about "do i have anything new to say?". if you answer no, maybe there's not a need to make a video. Honestly not trying to be a dick, hope this advice helps you. We need more quality comics channels

Best comic books ever? Yeah I think maybe. Art writing storytelling all so good
This thrift store in my areas has a whole bad full of vertigo comics for 100$ I’m scared to take the chance tho cuh I can’t see the comics in the bag
Can anyone recommend the best dc comics of 2019
Adam Aksoy the stuff written by alan moore
the Sandman Universe stories are good
For me that would be Jeff Lemire’s Black Label series of The Question.
Is vertigo still part of dc
no longer vertigo since last year
No animal man or doom patrol?!
