      If you liked this drop goal, you should go check out Reece Hodges penalty kick against the All Blacks.
      He kicks from about 55-58m out, the ball sails through the swirly wellington wind and doinks the top of the upright with enough energy to make the post sway like a waving, wacky, inflatable tube man.

    RIDICULOUS!!!! what an unbelievable strike, he was 60 metres out and it still had, conservatively, 5+ mtres on it.... can't call it the best ever, as the best are under pressure, but shit, this must be the biggest. What a wonderful drop goal. Hats off to Francois, what an absolute monster of a kick. Good on you, mate. Not even at altitude ! He could kick 70+ in some of the Bokke stadiums I bet ! England salutes you, sir.

    @rugbyking32 The reason Francois kicks so well is, because when he was younger his dad made him kick a rugby ball filled with water ! I remember him as a schoolboy in 2005's annual derby day between Grey College and Selborne College in East London. He kick a penalty off the Tee from his 10m line over the posts into a Gusty east-wind and it still landed on the middle of the Astro which is directly behind the 1st team field !!!!

    Anybody who says that Kirchner is better than Francois, or suggest that he is overrated is just plain THICK. He played a huge role in winning us the World Cup from 2nd-five. He kicked two drop goals to beat Australia in the final minutes of a game, one from the sideline. He kicks 60-metre drop goals as above. If he misses it doesn't make a difference because we get the ball back from a drop out with our players back in support!!!

    He's about 3 meters from the 10 but it's not dead centre, so call it 58m from where he kicked...
    But then it goes well over the heads of those stood close to the dead ball line, which is between 10-22m further. Eyeing it up I reckon it would have just about cleared the posts if they were at 70... Which is just mad :-)

    @MickJaggerr1 I just dont agree with 3 points for a drop goal or 3 points for penaltys for that matter, it just means some teams play for penaltys or positions to kick drop goals where I would like to see more running rugby being played.

  • @mylesdube1996

    south africa is above sea level and the air is less dense so the ball can go aloth further than normal if i remember correctly cape town or durban is the only ground at sea level but when you are playing in south africa beacuse of the thinner air you get alot more fatige beacuse of amount of air missing and that air missing can add anywhere from 0-10m on your drop kick depending on hight

    it was a low kick so it coulda gone further if higher. also, he coulda made it from 70! in american football, the longest field goal in an actual game (with a slightly lighter and more aerodynamic ball) is 63 yds (about 57.6 m)!

  • @RabbitholeIsrael

    SOUTH AFRICA INVENTED THE UTILITY BACK IDEA. it means a player plays anything from scrumhalf to linesman. previous coaches didn't know where to use francois on the field since he can play just about any backline position. He played full back, then flyhalf and eventually inside centre which is his favorite position.

    • @RabbitholeIsrael
      @RabbitholeIsrael 10 лет назад +2

      and he used to be fast enough to play wing since he could catch Bryan Habana. this happened once when Habana intercepted a ball. he chased and caught him before the try line. But now his too fat.

    @FrayOfLight Steyn is more consistant but cannot kick as far as Frans, Kirchner is a decent runner but as youve seen in the last couple of tri-nations matches he is getting pummeled, loses the ball in the contact situation, also in contact situation he never puts forward pressure as when he gets tackled he eithers stops completely or goes backwards. Steyn could also be HUGE with defensive kicks and being a much bigger player if he decides to run it up he will make inroads

    Why do people keep saying this is a punt, it's clearly a drop kick. He drops it, it hits the floor and then he kicks it = drop kick. It doesn't have to bounce a foot in the air to be valid. Are these people watching a different video or something?
