Also what Cruijff is explaining, is what you see nowadays. A wing back playing in midfield to create space and more players in midfield.
Guardiola and many others use this also nowadays.
Cruyff was far ahead of his time.

    • @jamesbarker9819

Guardiola was a DMF when Cruyff was manager of Barca. It was called the dream team. So, Guardiola learned how to play Cryuffen football, under the man himself, and then created total football 2.0 when he himself became manager of Barcelona during the 2008/2009 season.
I still have the jersey’s from that season. I bought them before the season started and we lost the first game. I didn’t think the season was going to be very good, but then Guardiola is not a man who is afraid to make changes and not afraid to take risks. He took Cruyff’s unsolicited advice and made a young 18 year old player the right side of his strike force. That young man was Lionel Messi, whom Cruyff had described as “the player who will win it all”. And he was right! This was years before any one of us would even know the name Lionel Messi.

I think what Johan Cruyff meant when he said he always played diamond is not a rigid 4-1-2-1 or false 9, instead it meant a player in possession will always find himself in a diamond formation with 3 options to pass. That's the fluidity of his system!

His entire book is just fantastic and very inspirational, so yeah, even when he was on the youth team, they ridiculed him, despite him being the key play maker and goal scorer. When he scored, non of the people in the youth team celebrated. So, he’s had to deal with ridicule most of his life.

Remember when Guardiola put Messi at what we call it "False 9". Well it is exactly what Cruyff is saying about his way of playing diamond formation. And now when Enrique has player like Suarez that is striker he brought that player in ST position. And this is just an example how legend Cruyff influenced Barcelona. Their managers are following his legacy, he created todays Barcelona style, not Pep or Rijakaard.

The thing is whoever's old than the current , people would say he's better . I agree on that , sayin n letting People do the thing u want is different . Tiki taka was never Barca's style but he created it. False on paper seems like diamond but it's different , u can't play if u don't have the likes of Messi or Maradona . Fabregas played but not for long n the reason is known. Cruyff had ideology n pep followed but he has his styles too. Look at city ,they may not have ucl but can u analyse the game ? It's very dynamic n prolly best after Barca 2011. Cruyff imo is the best but in current era ? Name me anybody better than Pep .

Heynckess won both the Bundesliga and the Champions League with Bayern Muncih and Guardiola took the team the year later and was unable to win the Champions League despite having the same team than Heynckess. Heynckess also won the Champions League with 2 different teams (Madrid and Bayern) while Guardiola won 0 Champions outside Barça. Ancelotti won the Champions League in 2 differnt teams (Milan and Real Madrid), smoething Guardiola never achieved. In fact, Real Madrid in 2013-2014 played the best football at club level ever, destroying Guardiola's Bayern 0-4 at their home stadium in the Champions League. Guardioal won the Champions League in 2009 thanks to robbering Chelsea, the referee did not call 3 or 4 clear penalties. With VAR, Barça would have never defeated Chelsea in the 2009 Champions League. Then you get Zidane, who is the only mister in the hsitory of football to win 3 consecutive Champions League titles, smoething Guaridola never did. And Mourinho won the Champions League on 2 teams (Oporto and Inter), soemthing Guardiola never achieved. But because mourinho had really bad seasons in CHelsea and Manchester, I would say he is euqally good as Guardiola.

@@jameswalker6864 getting trophies and coaching a team for the betterment of players depends upon certian things n probably very different things imo . When Zidane won his consecutive league titles ? Except for first season, the football he played was shit n there's no denying fact. That man was on par with Valverde if u analyse their games , both used Messi n Ronaldo as their main target n nothing more , winning a UCL is often based on luck rather the quality of players n there r multiple examples on that , talkin' abt Gaurdiola , his management time is just 10 years while the others been on the same page with more than 25+ years . The difference of 15 years is huge , it's a not like Pep's never achieved anything with Barca n city , last year he won almost every trophy except UCL n lost to Tottenham coz of luck rather than football tactically , Talkin' abt Winning UCL with different teams , we both know this season City has the best chance of winning it . As u said Barca won coz of the robbery 😂 ik they did n I agree but what abt the robberies made by real ? Scoring an offside equaliser against Atletico Madrid in the 92+ minuted , Zidane couldn't hold the league title nor the CDR. When u talk abt all the other things. Why don't u talk abt he's the only manager in the world with 2 Trebles ? of we talking abt Humiliation games , the oke that comes to my mind is Barca vs Bayern 7:0 coz that was the only time when a team who played better football on the pitch than Pep's team . Last 2 Ucls won by zidane were probably coz of UEFA so when u accuse Barca of that ? I think u should say the same thing for Real madird as well . Incase u don't know , real already won 5-6 Ucls in a row , I don't knw the year. SAF won just 2 Ucls with United ? One of the greatest teams ever so according to ur logic SAF is nothing 😂. We both know Pep could have achieved more if he had stayed at Barca but he moved . Then we have the thing that Pep took over Bayern which had won UCL in the previous season , well Pep has set his standards so high that people wants him to win the UCL every single year n winning that as I already said depends upon different factors not just on management , Barca before he took control was not a world-class team at all while they're below 3 in Laliga , UCL campaign was shit n so were the other campaigns n in 2007-8 season Barca didn't win anything while in the very next season by letting the likes of deco , Ronaldinho go ? He won every possible trophy. But some people just criticize , when he was at Barca - people said it's an easy league n everybody can win it with that team , when he was at Bayern - people said anybody can win it with that team but he didn't win ucl so he's a flow n not to mention he didn't spend anything in good amount there as well as in Barca n these were the times people said he can't win league in p.l coz it's hard but he won 2 seasons straight 🙂 n then we've people who say he won coz of the money ? Really ? United has spent the same amount as city but where r the trophies ? Liverpool spent 600M but couldn't win a single p.l ? Another thing I prefer Pep over anybody is how he utilizes new talent n creates them. I don't think u even saw when porto won the ucl , teams at that time were next to nothing n he played the same game there as well by parking a plane . Sayin Mourinho is on the same page as Pep is a crime lmao and one more thing that I forgot to add is , when Pep coached Barca ? Spain won the w.c ( Spain's golden days started when pep started to coach them n ended when he left Barca , Germany won the cup with same tactics too ) both del Bosque n J.Low didn't change anything in the team n played the same way as Pep was playing coz Germany National team = almost Bayern n Spain's national team at the time had 9 Barca players in the starting eleven. U can see the inspiration there , upcoming generation of Managers would dig for Pep more than anybody.

That one is so wrong lol...92 minute goal was in 2014 when Ancelotti was the coach. The one you're referring to had still lots of time to play.We can't know for sure how things would've played out.The fact of the matter is Madrid has Atleti's numbers in UCL while Atlei does the same against Barca in the UCL.In the league it's a different story. The only team Madrid has a huge difficulty against in any competition is Barcelona and they were the last one to knock them out decisively in the last decade...like you feel they got properly outclassed in both legs.. So what he's saying is that everyone thinks diamond is 41212 but actually the diamond in that formation breaks and loses its shape during the match because the wingers have to defend.
So he's suggesting a 433 that turns into a 343 with a wingback pushing up and leaving three at the back, leaving one of the opposing strikers forced to do fuck all and get bollocked by his coach or to track back a dozen times and get tired as fuck.
In the 433 to 343 the diamond shifts but always keeps its shape.

It's fascinating how Cruyff's coaching philosophies have transferred over to contemporary coaches like Guardiola and Bielsa. Both Bielsa and Guardiola like to play the +1 defensive system that Cruyff suggests in this clip without sacrificing the diamond in the middle. If playing against 3 forwards, then a 4-3-3 (false 9) system is implemented to have an extra man in defense. Then playing against 2 forwards gives the freedom to play a 3-4-3 (diamond) system.

I also noticed that the team was better with coman on the right as he is a true winger. Cruyffs tactics (or peps tactics) needed the winger to stay out wide to put in crosses to muller and lewa

Its quite funny how he starts his explanation by saying that people have different ideas and definitions as to what the diamond is, and as he starts explaining what HIS diamond is, he is told that his interpretation is wrong. In reality both guys are probably right to some extent. To cruyff the fluid diamond is a team based on the diamond, where the diamond is maintained and the team shifts to maintain it, while the other guy (dont know his name) thinks the diamond can be broken out of and into during the match depending on the necessity of the situation. Both approaches probably have a great deal of merit to them.

Johan cruijf is the einstein of football, People dont understand him because his football intellect is above anyone els, His amazing style of play, The worldwide impact he had as a player for ajax, barcalona and the dutch national team. his major succes as the head trainers of ajax and barcalona, Where he created two "super" teams and a tactic that would be used for many many years. Along side his great eye for talent (debuted the likes of bergkamp and van basten) and not to forget his famous quotes (Every disadvantage has got it's advantage) In spain his use of "uno momento dado" became so common, That it got accepted into the spanish dictionary.

Football evolves constantly, like everything. Every influential figure takes something from someone before him and pass it on. Cruijff learnt his trade from Michels, they passed it on together at Barcelona, but Cruijff really installed it there when he became a coach. Everyone built on a bit on that style - Wenger, Guardiola. And Ferguson, Ancellotti, Capello had their own ideas. There were greats in past like Guttmann, Chapman...
But Cruijff was certainly major influence.

  • @leerobbo92

Barca still play this way to this day, just a little more flexibly. Either Busquets drops back and the full backs push up, and suddenly you've changed from a 4-3-3 to a 3-4-3, or more rarely Pique pushes forward with the full backs moving towards the center, and you get a similar result. This is why people say Cruyff created the modern day Barcelona, if some people didn't understand or weren't aware of his team: they're using all of his principles, 20 years later. He also created La Masia.

I loved when he was explaining the moment in the tactic where you make an opposing striker constantly run away from the goal. Of course nowadays the deep lying forward or defensive forward is not nearly as rare as it was back then.

This is crazy, the way he thought about tactics, no one can even come close to his understanding of the game

2:03 I play this form of the diamond and let me tell you, it's very effective. The fact that a player from CAM can go near the box but pull back towards midfield with the two midfielders connecting the CAM and the CDM is just insane. This locks the whole midfield and with the defense just being a wall of players it makes it very hard to counter when the CDM can also pull back and support them. This pattern is effective for tiki-taka I'd assume.

That's TV in a nutshell nowadays, the only difference is they transmit garbage between the commercials, that are garbage as well

Too many coaches and players think that a formation is a fixed pattern that the players must keep. They call it "shape". A formation is just a division of responsibilities. The physical patterns on the field are fluid. Football is just pressure and support. Pressure when they have the ball, and support when you have it. And the best way to support Johan when he had the ball? As he said: "Get the hell out of his way!" Except he was to polite to say hell.

    • @fanfam
      @fanfam 5 лет назад

Yes that one of those moments...I never saw him in real live. As a Dutchmen. You know the kinda guy that was saying to himself every year ''now I am going to some event, no matter what, just to see him in person''. But ends up going to his old home in Amsterdam, lighting a candle.

And today people give Pep credit for inventing the inverted full-back when AGAIN it was Johan Cruyff. Guardiola played under Cruyff in the 90s for Barcelona in a side that was using an inverted full back.
A lot of people have short memories in football....
