Francois Steyn: Treating rugby balls like they owe him money since 2006.
That drop goal against Clermont is unbelievable. Hit it from a different post code and still had loads left on it when it went over the bar. And looked so casual whilst doing it.
repetition during training must be insane. steph curry like
That is the most monstrous kick I ever seen... could ve done.it.for 80 meters...
Frans Steyn stands as a titan in my all-time GOAT rugby squad, grossly underrated yet profoundly impactful.
Luckily Rassie Erasmus noticed him. He was the single key factor in our 2019 world cup strategy, because he can cover any position in the backline with world class performance. Its because of him that Rassie gambled with the 6-2 split and created the bomb squad.
My idol growing up. One of the most understated and underrated players of all time.
He 's never been in the right team at the right moment, unfortunately. At least in his French career.
No one ever played him strategically. Boks should have excelled and built a team around his excellents. But for some reason they always seemed to play him like an extra

That drop goal for Racing 🤯
Holy shit, I’ve never seen those drop kicks before. That’s something else.
Frans Steyn makes so easy to see the difference between being the best and being a LEGEND
You'll should see his 50/22's, even before they were a thing! What I love about Steyn is his BMT, kicking those in WC, WC finals, BIL series, last minutes in games. Can always count on him.
Imagine facing a player you daren't risk kicking out of your own 22 to or giving away a penalty to even in his own team's 10 metre line. Insane.
His accuracy was better than his distance. That says it all. Double world cup winning legend.
Thanks Andrew. Those long penalty goals are brilliant, but the drop kicks - AMAZING!
What a boot! One of my favourite springboks and so good as a versatile back. The amount of muscle he put on after his stint in France though… Beast mode!
Happy retirement Frans, we'll miss you!
1:05 Is just unreal, that's a 70+ metre drop kick. Biggest I've ever seen
Imagine if he was playing at altitude as well! That thing could've had 80m in it! Absolutely absurd power
Some of those kicks are unreal, I mean 60m in NZ!!!😮
Easily the longest drop goal from point of contact to landing ever😮
I've been waiting for this
Puts a smile on my face every time !!!!
The Roberto Carlos of dead ball kicking
Im 66. Been a rugby league man all my life. WTF!!!! This guy is incredible.
An absolute wand of a boot! One of those players you grow up watching and every so often hearing "Did you see Steyn's kick vs XYZ at the weekend?" To be fair though, has he ever done it on a wet Thursday night in the Sportsground vs Ensei in the Challenge Cup? 🤣
A wand? That's a siege gun!
An absolute legend,in my opinion the most valuable player in our country because he could play at so many different positions and he was a great long distance kicker.
Best long range kicker to play for the Boks since Naas Botha. Incredible all-round talent as well, worthy of a more rounded tribute vid. Architect of the 6-2 bench split due to his versatility. One of those rare seasoned players who started as a pacey utility back and closes his career built like a heavyweight loose forward. Would love to see this man win a 3rd world cup
Absolutely agree. Makes one wonder how far Naas would’ve been able to drop or penalty kick these modern balls. You just know Naas was beaming every time Frans kicked a drop goal. I remember he really seemed to cherish his drop goal against Australia, shown in this collection. It’s a shame he couldn’t make another World Cup. Forever a Bok legend
Pity that New Zealand were cheated in the RWC final. South Africans should not be proud of a fallacious "victory".
Frans Steyn is significantly better than Naas Botha, but maybe that's just my opinion.
we outplayed the allblacks in the final there was never any doubt so dnt talk things you dont know about
@@user-ri7lz5lu5m Even if we outplayed them, it was not a final worth watching because I know what I know, and that was match fixing. And I know that red card was bs .I do not mean any disrespect to any of either sides' players, but if the officials are corrupt...
We do not have to argue about this any further, you are allowed to believe what you want to believe.
Biggest drop goal kicks of all time
We need another Francois Steyn 😍
This mans boot is outta this world 😮
He should be in the Springboks starting 15 - all the time!
Yes- very underrated player/ France had the boot + knowledge/ could plan his backline + versatile- they wasted his talents 😮
This guy was absolute monster
Without a doubt the best long range kicker in South Africa's rugby history.
Was fortunate to be there at the stadium for his Currie Cup debut. What a great talent
Legend
Unreal player, Bok LEGEND
Hugh Bladen commentating on Frans Steyn's long distance kicks gives me nostalgia
He is a machine
LEGEND
Damn this guy doesn’t miss
Wow, I didnt know how many drop goals he kicked!
Arguably my fav player of all time
Francois (and Percy) with the good hair ❤
a rugby god for sure.
One of my very favourite Boks. Not only the BOOT when younger with his speed and foresight . Then the older Frans, the brains and the power. What a champ.
Playing 12 for the Boks is no free ride. That`s some tough stuff. Thank you Francois Steyn. I am sure Rassie has you in the future plans of Bok rugby.
Edit to add ---- Australia 2027 lookout !! SA are coming to win.
If Mannie and steyn were the same age I would choose Frans steyn
the prodigy
Like André Joubert, he could kick equally well with both feet. If he was left of the field he'll use his right boot and visa versa.
Yes - Andre j was jewel/ both him and Frans were underated + not appreciated
Now Francois has beautiful hair 💥🏉💜 his kicking is also pretty awesome
All Bokke support finding this video today us crazy.
The legendary Kanon voet
I don't do fallacy, and I am not going to consider souled out bs. Hammer time.
Absolute howitzer of a kicker has to be in anyone's 23
1:30 the moment he hit it he knew it was over. They don't make them like Frans no more!
Best player ever
He was so handsome❤🥰
Then got old and fat
after danie gerber and naas botha the best rugby player in history
Start questioning the "officials".
What the hell was that drop goal... If players can master that, that's unplayable
And there's more... Wtf is this guy
@@jamesatkins7592For real! And that wasn't even playing at altitude. He could've slammed that thing from behind his own 22 and still landed it in SA
When Faf is big he wants to be like Francois
Faf can only dream😂
Have a good day.
Interesting to note, the first kick of this clip which was against All Blacks could have been caught by a lock of the All Blacks as the ball was just dipping over the post
Are you allowed to block it like in volleyball?
Who hasn't he played for?
Imagine now, with the new dropout rules?? You drop out from under your posts, and it goes to Steyn!!
Its such a shame he missed this world cup.
Dayimani deserves a tribute
Bro wtf drop goals from 50m out and 5m away from the touchline?😂😂😂💀💀
61 metres
While they are trying to convince us that kicking is not part of the game 😂
_Ek sal jou Frans-Steyn_ ..ek sal jou in jou moer in skop...😂😂😂😂
Imagen him as a soccer player. The goal ceeper would have no chance. He wouldn't even move
🌟🙊
And the easiest and closest kick he had in his career he missed which cost The Sharks a Super Rugby title 😂😂😂
"Dan Carter is the best kicker in history" 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Dan Carter behind AB pack but was now where in France where the pack was not dominant.
As a South African Carter is better than Steyn in terms of kicking overall, but it cannot be understated how unique and talented Francois was especially because you could play him centre, fly-half or full-back.
But remember Dan c was Only a flyhalf- Frans S Could play in "All the backline post"- he was a sensation in dropping
😂
Just saying, he's a great player, but that kick was not over. The evidence is clear.
not as good as Dan Carter
