  • The 2023 Acura Integra Prototype Reveal is insulting for me. If there's two words to describe it, it's "Marketing Manipulation". I can't believe that Acura (Honda) wants us to believe that this is the new Integra. I'll let you know what this new "Integra" really is in this video and provide further details on this new Integra and my speculation on the performance and Type-S. Let me know what you think about the 2023 Acura Integra prototype in the comments section below.

      A coupe was never going to happen. Most car companies aren't going to spend millions designing a bespoke chasis that has very limited market appeal. It makes sense from a business standpoint to make the car a practical daily driver so it appeals to the widest audience possible. I'm not super into the looks of it but it's in line with modern Acura's corporate front end design. All car companies follow a similar design philosophy for their entire line up so there's brand identity. They want you to know it's an Acura when you see it. As much as we'd like a coupe that's a driver's car, there's just not that much money it doing that anymore. Those segments are shrinking especially for fwd. Even if they made a coupe it probably wouldn't sell all that well because at a similar or cheaper price you could get a rwd coupe that's likely faster and better around corners.

    • @crxdelsolsir
      @crxdelsolsir 2 года назад

      @@ericpromisco2213 You do know the Integra shares the underpinnings with the Civic hence it is not a totally bespoke vehicle.
      Also, other car companies have either continued with the coupe or reintroduced them such as Mazda Miata/Mx5, Nissan Z and Brz/Ae86 as examples.
      Also, they are halo cars that compliment the company and not the bread and butter of the company and hence not judged on their own as you suggest. Much like the argument for the low volume NSX or Corvette vs Suv's etc.
      A coupe is what people wanted and would sell as shown by the overwhelming negative comments and votes.
      Even a company traditionally more boring than Honda also introduced the Supra on top of the Ae86.
      I think the thought coupes and cars are dead are over rated and inacurate.

    • @ericpromisco2213
      @ericpromisco2213 2 года назад +1

      @@crxdelsolsir yes, and the current prototype shares a platform with the civic hatch. Honda was never going to use an old discontinued chassis to build a new car. The Z is still around because it's based off an existing platform and uses the engine from the Q50. Nissan fans are pretty split on that car. The brz/86 is co developed with subaru so the costs are shared. Look, I wanted a coupe too, but it just doesn't make much sense in 2021 when coupe sales are in the toilet. Honda would still be making the civic and accord coupes if they still sold well. People online always moan and bitch that there aren't cars made that cater to them but the ones usually screaming the loudest either don't have the money to buy one or don't buy the car when it's released. Like it or not most companies are run by bean counters. They're not likely to make a car that sells in very small numbers.

  • @gallyun1
    @gallyun1 2 года назад +6

    Even though the 1st gen Integra started as a 5 door hatch, it's most recognized as being a coupe. Yes, this is would have better off being called a TSX or ILX. I think if they would have made a coupe version to fill the void of the NSX, they would have gotten a better response. But, I also think some of this "fake rage" is silly from the enthusiast community.
    If y'all were that hardcore about sport coupes, (from all brands) it would show in sales. A lot of people are just "window shopping" on the internet. When it came to buying, certain coupes sat on the lot. (like the SI coupe) I fully understand why Honda played it safe, they can't take their chances on a "flakey" enthusiast community. .

    People are hasty and wrong about the new Integra, here's why:
    Right away, we have no specs, show some patients.
    Everyone seems to forget the Integra was ALWAYS just a better Civic.
    The 11th gen Civic, on which it's based, is already being lauded for its chassis, dynamics, and capabilities.
    And the new Integra will be a serious enhancement of those proven characteristics.
    Many wanted a Civic Si hatch, if you're one of them, congratulations you got your wish.
    If you also wanted an automatic Si, congratulations to you as well.
    What could make or break this car in base trim is the automatic transmission though. If they keep the DCT from the ILX then excellent, if they bring over the CVT from the Civic hatch, that will be a shame.
    Styling wise, it's trying to be all things to all people, which isn't a bad thing.
    People also forget the original Integra was a 5 door.
    But this brings that liftback style hatch that made the Integra famous as well as practical, it's got four doors for the fast four door crowd (me), and it's got coupe lines for the coupe crowd.
    If you think it's too tame in the looks department, just picture it as a Type-S.
    Civic hatch is shaping up to be a really great looking Type-R.
    TLX made an absolutely sensational looking Type-S.
    Expect a similar transformation for the Integra Type-S.
    Speaking of, we know nothing about it.
    They're gonna gun for the S3, Golf R, A35, and 2 series to an extent.
    That's a reason to expect SH-AWD paired to the 2.0T that's already in the Acura lineup.
    A lot of potential in that for sure.
    So at least hold off for that.

They need mass appeal and this generation is fine with a regular looking car. If they can hit this out of the park, then they could bring bring back a coupe, and all that, but their business needs to thrive and if they can do that with a name like Integra to increase chances of re-solidifying the Integra name, then I'm in support of it. Forget the name, it's a decent looking sedan with a manual shift and peppy engine. As someone with an integra I'm a little disappointed but not surprised. Acura/Honda isn't going to spend millions designing a bespoke chasis that will very likely struggle in sales past the initial release. Not to mention the msrp would likely be much higher making it even more difficult for the average enthusiast to afford. I don't mind the design and hope the type s builds on this and uses the k20 from the CTR. While I'm not over the moon with the car thus far I'm going to wait until i see the car in person and am able to drive it before i make a decision. There's still so much we don't know.

      The main reason it should have been 2-door is that all of Acura's products are 4-door save for the outgoing NSX. Also, why buy this when the Civics (the car that shares this Integra's platform) is also a 4-door? Remember Prelude? Yeah, that was killed cause the Accord fulfilled the same wants and needs that Prelude offered. Overlap between different brands is fine, overlap within your own brand can be a disaster.
      All I'm saying is that the Integra should take the 2-door role if the Civic is no longer going to have it and it would be a more special car that would have its own identity instead of being a smaller TLX. Like how Dodge is doing extremely well with Chargers and Challengers even though they are basically the same car.

    Car enthusiasts are to close to the Integra. We know what it was like to drive and feel connected to the car and the Integra delivered it in a relatively inexpensive package. I did not feel as connected until I drove a Ferrari. Honda brought fun to the masses... few were smart enough to realize it. The new Integra was not built for the old car enthusiast it was built for the next generation of them. In the culture of Japan it is not good to stick out and the Integras of the past were chastised for this. If one steps back and really looks at what is on the table, and what the competition is offering, it is clear that Honda tried to deliver what we were asking for. LSD, Turbo, On and On... the car has great parts. It is a bit like having lusted after skinny women, or men, and then styles change and all of a sudden the full figure comes in vouge. The car is big and heavy, it is not light and nimble any one that has driven a GTR can attest you can still have fun with a little pork if it is combined well. I hope the new buyers of this car get a feel for the heritage of the legend when they strap their kids in the back and head off in to traffic. For those buyers the car is perfect and they will think it is amazing because again Honda has delivered. They delivered not to us but to the future generation.

The last great Hondas we had here ended in the 2000's with the S2000 and Ep3. We had to wait till 2015 for the FK2 2018 for the FK8 which have done well so far. Very few in the line up to talk about these days as pure drivers cars. Other manufacturers are still making great cars for the "future generation". One case in point, Toyota. They've picked up where Honda left off for the "next generation"....Yaris GR - a Homologation special like we've never had since over a decade with the Evo's etc. Toyota Can't make them fast enough to meet demand. Not to mention, there's the GR Corolla, GR86 and GR Supra still to come. Exciting cars for enthusiasts that preform as well as look the part for the "future generation"! It was a bad idea to call it an Integra. Otherwise, it is not bad as a cookie cutter jelly bean on wheels like all cars have become. So far no manufacturer is willing to cut out all of the tech bells and whistles to make the top task of the car the pleasure of driving it. Honda did the same thing with bringing back the NSX. The current car is nothing like the original model which is bad not only from a less is more standpoint but once tech support ends for the current NSX, it will vanish. The old models will still be around in 50 years. We kind of have to accept the fact that around 1990 to about 2005 is when Japanese cars peaked. The quality was superb, not drowning in tech that requires support, and most importantly made to drive instead of send text messages, post on social media, or stream music. Ever so often a fantastic car like the Lexus LFA comes along but it was not exactly affordable for most people so we will probably never see something great like an Integra GSR for below $30K in 1990s dollars.

    Listen, we common sense automobile lovers we know it’s not an Integra. But don’t think this marketing gimmick will not work. It could since the market that has the $$ and age to buy it, will just go along the name since they never lived along or drives the Integra. They will remember the Donut videos of the Integra and buy it. Anyway it’s a hatchback sedan which are very practical. I don’t like it, but it probably has a market we don’t identify with. Probably the aging Recent Civic Type R enthusiasts that over frowned the Civic.

    On paper it looks bland and appearance wise it looks like ILX 2.0. No doubt it is disappointing to look at probably for a lot of old fans. Acura knows this isn't going to be a high volume seller so they aren't throwing a ton of money on it. This forces the Integra team to make the best of limited budget and focus on things that we can't see like the tuning, suspension, chassis, etc. Like the old saying goes don't judge a book by its cover. I think the driving dynamics will reminiscent of the old Integra. Look at the new WRX, a lot of people aren't please with its look and spec sheet. However the early hands on reviews are saying the car is better than one it replaces when putting it through the paces.
    I think people will be pleasantly surprise once they get behind the wheel.

    Key word entry level for new buyers not pass grown ups who now drives an SUV. If they say its an Integra its an Integra. Is it the old Integra? No. Hardly anyone buy those two doors cars and would be silly to invest in such. yall did not complain when they renamed the 2dr integra the RSX and 4dr TSX which then moved to ILX?
