I was having serious libido issues with 1mg of Fin orally a day from Keeps for a month. I got my hair back so I tried every other day but my libido was still crap after 2 months. I’m doing once a week now for 7 months and my libido is solid and no hair loss regression.
I suggest if the side affects are bad then lower the dosage. Fin stays in your system and keeps blocking DHT for a month so we don’t really need much. Just enough to keep it away from the scalp.

A childhood friend commented the other day… “who has hair like this over 50?” People are noticing….my stylist was even left scratching her head. She told me that when she started cutting my hair, I was balding and now I’m not! She is freaked out! She said she doesn’t understand how that is possible! Lol .I did not tell her about my treatment but instead gave her the credit since she started cutting my hair about 2 months prior to starting topical. I told her my old barber was the cause and her style of cutting must be the reason my hair improved….She bought it! 😎 The stuff works .

Matt the problem with this study is that they only measured systemic DHT suppression with 1 week of use. As shown in all other studies of topical finasteride, if you continue to use it for months and months, you end up having similar systemic suppression of DHT as you would from oral finasteride (minus the convenience of taking a medication orally vs topically).
Also it really doesn't seem to make a difference what the concentration of finasteride is whether it's topical or oral, the only difference is that with lower concentrations of fin, it will take a longer period of time for the drug to reach a certain saturation point to lower DHT equally as much as 1mg oral Propecia would.

Correct. I take oral finasteride 1.25 mg three times per week and the only side effect I've gotten was increased libido. Topical finasteride takes a lot longer to apply and you run the risk of uneven concentrations and mis-dosing. Also it's way more expensive.

Hy Tom, I think your doctor is probably pulling you more towards the safest side. According to the studies conducted based on the dosages even .005% is still effective in bringing down the scalp dht without even affecting the serum dht when used upto 2ml a day. .025% is an effective dose (when used at 1ml once a day) that can give you the best possible if not the greatest results with no huge alterations to your hormones. Keep in mind I am not a doctor or researcher.

I would not recommend mixing topical finasteride at home. Because it would be very difficult to accurately mix the tablets in an alcohol solution at home to achieve consistent concentration and even distribution of finasteride. We're talking about 0.005% to 0.02% concentrations. Chances are you're going to have inconsistent amount of finasteride in each ml that you apply.
Solution (no pun intended): reach out to your local pharmacy. Or better yet, find a compounding pharmacy where they have resources and equipment to make a legit and accurate topical solution.

side effects from finasteride are not due to lowering dht, the issues actually are unknown. Dht is just used a measure of how much fin is present in ur system to see the side effects profile. The reason why topical fin has less sides then fin is more likely cause it avoids the first pass, (liver) and has far less metabolites that way. Proof is that the dht goes back to normal after stoping topical fin faster then using oral even though when used for months both topical and oral have reduced dht by roughly 70%

You are right on the DHT and side effects. No body truly knows but one theory could be that since finsateride raises testosterone by 15%, side effects could happen because of the increased aromatization from testosterone to estrogen. The side effect profile really fits that which one has high estrogen in.
The goal isn't really to keep DHT, intact its a trash hormone and should be inhibited in adulthood regardless of whether you have MPB or not. The goal is to control estrogen and testosterone ratios and perhaps seek a way to lower est to healthy levels by working out and losing extra pounds

Thanks for creating this great content. I'm starting with topical finasteride (the Essengen 6 from MinoxidilMax, 0.05% fin).
I haven't found any reliable source of information about the "risks" of exposing members of your family (kids, partner) to finasteride when using the topical version. Do you have any recommendations on this? Are the risks real and, if yes, are there good strategies to avoid those? I'm not trying to have kids anymore (so I don't think there's a big issue using topical fin if my wife is around). Yet I have a 7 year old daughter and was wondering if using topical fin on a regular basis can expose her to it and if it can have repercussions later in her life. Any thoughts?

Trying to be as minimalist as possible since my hair loss is very slow and non-aggressive, and it may not even he hormone related, but still looking for a safety net just in case. I took it for 1.5 years and I had drastic results. My crown has completely recovered and my hairline saw improvement too. I'm one of those lucky hyper responders. Unfortunately finasteride has wrecked havoc on my sex and mental life. After thinking about suicide for weeks I gave up on it and am on minoxidil only. No more messing with hormones. I'd rather be bald than die in my 20s. 2 months in after quitting I feel much much better. No more nausea and vertigo. My semen is finally white and packs volume again and is no longer transparent empty liquid. That filter of constant haze and confusion is gone. Sleep is much more restorative now and I have more energy and motivation. Took me about 1 month after quitting to start seeing positive effects. Keep in mind I took topical fin only. And still it messed me up hard. It is incredible how unassuming the side effects set in. You don't really realize they're there until several months to a year in your body and mind start attacking you and telling you something is seriously wrong. Like a fire alarm in the background that gets louder the more you ignore it. Testosterone is already dropping hard in our current generation from all the gmos, plastic, pollution and radiation. Add fin on top of it and we're basically destroying our body. Testosterone effects both you physical homeostasis as well as impact how your neurons in your brains fire. The receptors that control motivation are heavily influenced by DHT levels and reducing it is the same as killing the will to live.

So I've just got Hims topical fin min combined. First thing I'm trying regards my own hair. The Fin is 5% and the Min is 5% labelled " Extra strength" is this ok ? also opted for the dropper form.
I presume the higher percentage of Fin is because it has a lesser absorption rate so to make it " possibly more" effective which is they are using a higher percentage?. I'm aware the 5% Min is the standard dose used .
    Any info welcomed!!

I'm coming to the end of the first week of my second bottle. Initial side effects that have subsided were very periodic mild palpation, immediate pressure headache upon application, tight chest but that's all settled pretty much.

Hi, can you please respond to my question.. Does Minoxidil also work using it like 2 times a week combined with topical finansteride 2 times a week ? Also using derma roller 2 times a week.. I only want to wash my hair 4 times a week.. see my weekly routine below? Is this a good routine ?
Monday : Derma roller / Minoxidil
    Tuesday : not washing hair
    Wednesday : Topical finansteride
    Thursday : not washing hair
Friday : Derma roller/ topical finansteride
    Saturday : not washing hair
    Sunday : Minoxidil
Only apply minoxidil or topical finansteride after I wash my hair.
Can you give some advice is it maby better to use minoxidil and topical finansteride together after I wash my hair ?

Probably better than nothing tbh. I use topical fin 3x a week and topical minox 5x a week.
I use 2% minox with my topical finasteride and I use .002%.
