I just wish you could just remake this episode with the formats of the newer episodes. The jokes here are forced and unnecessary. Not that I have a distaste for humor, I don't mind a funny joke or 2 but for a video series about learning the facts of a games development and it should be taken serious.
The first like 16 minutes was already known back story and at the end when he was doing actual beta and unused stuff he was rushing through it. Anyone else find that a bit weird?

It’s honestly so weird coming back to this, seeing what your channel could have become. I’m really glad you took the criticism to heart and listened to the fans. It’s a major part of improvement.
I find the audience here being extraordinarily disrespectful and childish and wouldn’t be surprised if this is why he doesn’t upload as much. It’s one thing to criticizes but people in the comments are acting like he owes them something and they have any say in the video making process.

Hey Andrew, I think it’s pretty imminent from the new intro that you want to take a more personality based spin on the show’s format and I won’t put anyone down for wanting to interject them self more into their work.
But I don’t think that’s what people have come to enjoy these videos for. Especially when your personality is taking so much front and center over top of the subject matter. Perhaps there’s another venue you could take to pursue that kind of content? A second channel, twitch, etc. I just think that this current format detracts from what your audience mainly expect from this series. To compare and contrast different builds of a video game.

Fun fact, the opening cutscene of everyone on the cliff in brawl is the exact same cliff in the opening scene of world of light, so in a way, the smash universe is connected.

If he only included unused stuff this video would be extremely short. it's all about putting the important stuff at the end, it's how people get to increase their watch time by making the viewers wait for the part they were actually looking for. If it was at the beginning people would watch like the first 2 minutes then leave.

i know i already commented twice but here are some miscellaneous smash bros facts since he didn't give any:
-snake ended up in brawl because kojima used to play smash 64 with his son and wanted one of his characters in the franchise
-sonic (in brawl) was the only base character in the franchise to have been added AFTER the roster was already finalized
-compared to any character ever cut from any of the games, the one furthest in development was ice climbers for smash 4
-ultimate is the first game where dr. mario's inclusion was planned from the start
-game freak wanted decidueye as the game's sun/moon pokemon, but sakurai ultimately had the final call and chose incineroar
-there are only two final fantasy VII tracks in ultimate because the game's composer receives royalties on a per-track basis
-rayquaza, petey pirahna, duon, and porky minch were planned as bosses but scrapped early in development

That’s exactly what I was thinking too.
I liked the video, but I sort of preferred when Beta64 was more educational. It didn't really feel like much "beta" was shown, and near the end when we finally start getting to the juicy details, you mentioned dataminers finding "lots of stuff inside the files," and...proceed to only really talk about Giga Bowser, Home Run Contest, and a fan sound. Like...what? What about the unused and unobtainable Rare spirits? Those weren't mentioned even once!
I noticed the larger focus on humor this time around, and while I really do enjoy me some good humor, I would have really preferred you focused more on the content I and many others likely came here for. I wouldn't mind the video being five, ten, fifteen, or even twenty+ minutes longer if it meant more beta material was covered. I eat that stuff up, dude.
Comfey, Destroyer of Worlds Yeah, this one was terrible. Beta64 is not Scott the Woz, MatPat, RelaxAlax, or PBG, and should not be screwing up his original style to copy them. We loved him for the information of his videos, and his more professional delivery. He does not have the comedic timing to pull off stuff like this, and shouldn’t be tossing out his original appeal to sell out like this.
I mean, it was irritating enough in his videos for Kirby’s Adventure and Kirby 64, but at least that only had jokes once in a while and was still highly informative! What do we have here? Lots of basic development history that is pretty common knowledge, at best a few minutes of the looking at beta builds that we know him for, and the rest is filled in with (gasp!) cringe-inducing live-action skits.
If he wants to experiment with his style, show a bit more of his personality, he should try it out on an alternate channel; if he doesn’t have enough material for a typical video on Smash Ultimate, don’t do a video on it!
I get it if he has other ideas for what he wants to do, but he has an audience with expectations for him, and judging from the comments, they’re pretty pissed! If he keeps making videos like this, his watchers leave, and his channel goes down the drain, he’s the one who started it!

It felt like I only got 5 min worth of information and 15 min of mildly funny to, cringe and straight up unnecessary jokes. I like the rebrand of beta 64 focusing on yourself and all but I think your trying to force it too much. Beta 64 used to feel like an extremely well put together documentary that was extremely interesting. Now don’t get me wrong, it still does feel like this but now it also feels like your attempting to force your personality and unfunny (sorry) jokes down our throats. I will continue to watch the channel grow and hope you will take my and everyone else’s criticism in to consideration. Thanks.

Yeah it could just be growing pains from the style change, but if I wanted to watch a slightly worse version of ScottTheWoz I'd watch any of the other quirky gaming channels.
I have no issue with the jokes (most gaming RUclipsrs have this style of humour) but when the actual beta content is like 20% of the video with 20% being cut to presenter jokes and 60% being the history the balance is off.
I can tell he worked hard on it which is why I feel bad saying this, but I hope it's more constructive than other comments I've seen.
Not to mention he has not uploded in months so he's trying to revive something that died so long long ago

i miss when he would actually analyze old betas also, but I understand that staying relevant on youtube is tricky soul-sucking business. he's already done most of the major old games, and there's much less beta information out there on newer games, so he was kind of required to reformat. so i am saddened that he is pretty much just another youtuber now, but that's kind of just the way this place is structured if you want to keep viewers and revenue.

Looks like most of these comments are saying the same thing. I'd just like to make sure you understand that they aren't trying to insult or belittle you. The reason people are disappointed with your comedy is because we all know you're better than this. Your videos have always been informative and high quality. You've gathered a decent following, and that following is satisfied with your style. If it's views you care about, sure go ahead and resort to those things, but a RUclips channel is so much more than just a bunch of numbers. It isn't necessary. What you do has always been unique and caters to a specific audience that doesn't have much else to rely on for content. That said, it's your channel and you can take it in whatever direction you choose.

I love you man, but this video sucks. It takes 17 minutes to get to the actual beta stuff. Those 17 minutes are filled with cringy jokes, and even during the actual beta facts you decide to throw in the cringy jokes. I don't think the fans are mad, I think they're disappointed that this is the content that we got after 8 months of nothing.

If they truly reused a lot of these assets... they did a damn good job hiding them. I’ve seen so many changes to the stages, for example, that I’m firmly convinced it’s not anywhere near a port. Bridge of Eldin, for example. After watching various comparison videos, I just started calling Smash4, “Brawl HD”.

You probably already have heard a million times about the live action stuff and honestly if done right it would actually be a breath of fresh air for these videos, but instead you try to appeal to pretty much nobody. But I will say that this video is still better than your Sonic Mania video.

But to be honest I also did not like the bits of cringy/tryingtobefunny scenes. :( RUclips is full with those kind of content creators and i started following your channel for the cool and interesting professionnally researched information. So this is just an opinion... You can do whatever you want to, i will probably still watch the videos as long as the cool documentary style informtion are in them...

Underrated comment.
This video isn't enjoyable at all you barely talked about the actual beta of the game at all it took 17 minuets to get to the segment that your show is supposed to be about, you clearly wanted to focus more on the live action segments but all those ranged from mediocre to wince worthy. I'm not exaggerating when I say that those "jokes" we're actually hard to listen to, most of them fell flat and I believe that it was you're delivery of them. I know that I'm being overly harsh but I'm only doing that because I really used to enjoy this series and I don't want it to end, but this in my opinion isn't the right way to handle it. So many other youtubers have this same style of "comedy" and judging by the vast majority of comments other viewers seem to feel the same way. I'm not saying you should end the show but this in my opinion isn't the right way to handle it.

So it’s been said recently that Sakurai making the game was his last mission from Iwata before he died. This is also why he’s putting so much work in the DLC.
I hate to say it, but I just don't really like the way this feels, between the mediocre jokes and general lack of your older charm. Maybe it'll be well-rounded by next video, but this one didn't really leave me with the same satisfaction that your older ones did. Sorry if this offended you.

I kinda noticed you were trying a new style of videos with the Kirby 64 one, and I kinda agree with everyone else. I'd stick to the more informative format. It's okay to stick a few jokes in here and there, but not throughout the whole video. DYKG for instance makes facts/trivia/information the focus, with jokes only slipping in if the trivia happens to be fairly silly.
It's mostly in the end where the person who is narrating talks about their videos

As much as I hate to say it, this didn't seem like your best work at all... Maybe it's my fault for being so obsessive over the details and general story of how Smash gets developed, but that part is all old news to me (and is most of the video). There was hardly any mention of actual differences seen in the demo, like costume differences (Meta/Mecha Ridley, dark-skinned Villagers and Pokemon Trainer, etc), gameplay changes/potential Smash 4 leftovers (not buffs/nerfs, but things like Bowser Jr's Smash 4 airdodges post-up special), and other tidbits like Link's Guardian Sword taunt (edit: check replies) that got removed/changed. Also a seeming lack of awareness for other general things like the fact that Jigglypuff's Pound has always used the Fan's sound, which means the sound filename is obviously nothing suspicious. I'm also left with questions like 'Is that fairy file just Young Link's?'. (also, not to beat a dead horse, but the live action stuff needs to be toned back a bit to work well)
I hope to see more good Beta 64 stuff in the future tho!

@@buttface6663 hey, so, I guess this is my bad and I'm a big dumb idiot. I have the CLEAREST memory of Link pulling out a Guardian Sword for his taunt, and it unfolds and everything. It's really unlike me to mis-remember something in this fashion, but I can't find any footage, so I'll just say this point is moot. I still stand by the rest of my comment though (including things like the Fan sound effect's note on TCRF, since I was only noting the easiest interpretation thanks to this seemingly lazy video style and I personally went to the TCRF page anyway). Sorry for the trouble!

It's alright to branch out with humor and stuff, like the intro skit and a few of the jokes were okay, but a lot of them distracted from the information, which is why people come down to your channel. Love your vids man, never stop trying! :>
Smash ultimate isnt a port. Just because they have refused assets doesnt make it a port! That's like saying Subnautica: Below Zero is a port because they reuse assets from the original Subnautica dispite the two having different stories and new features.

True. A port is literally using a game and rewiring it to fit onto whatever it's ported on. That seems forced.
Another thing that wasn't mentioned was that the trailer gave off different things in comparison to the full released game.
When they showed Pac-man, he used his down special, revealing the fire hydrant, and he could be able to punch the water out of his way, but you could not do that in the game itself even after all the patches the game has been through as I'm currently typing this.
Another thing that was different was that Villager's 8 color/costume variations were all gonna have be white skinned.
I believe it was due to Isabelle joining in smash, and the announcement of the New Horizons game, they made 2 characters have different skin color, to represent the variation of customizing your character with more options than any other Animal Crossing game had!
Nonetheless though, I really enjoyed this video a lot. Thank you!

Not enjoying this new style, you're trying way to hard. I used to love how calm you were when presenting facts plus I feel like I learned more interesting facts and information rather than common knowledge considering it took 17 minutes to get to beta and cut content. You're also walking a fine line now of being annoying.

Alright, I'm just going to say that the jokes feel forced. Also, you didn't really focus on the beta that much in this video. I know you're getting criticized a lot here, and I'm sorry about that, but please, just try to fix these, if you're going to do jokes, try to make it so they don't seem forced. Maybe show the clips with jokes to friends and see if they like them? If not, take them out, if they do, keep them in.
I would prefer you also taking a bit more about the beta of the game too.
