We lost things like Streetpass, Face Raiders, and AR Cards. I really miss the activity log. @@ricln5464 The Switch as a console is also just faster than the 3ds. While the base 3ds could feel a little slow at times, I never found the Vita or New 3ds OS to be a bother when it came to speed... and the Switch would run those styles of UI even better.
You didn’t mention the best hidden feature of the 3DS, every 2/3DS console has a built-in GBA player, full on backwards compatibility with GBA that went unused outside of the ambassador program giveaways, those aren’t so much Virtual Consoles like the others, the GBA emulator was built-in onto the console itself and via hacking not only can you inject any GBA Rom to run as a VC title but you can even get the emulator to start from a powered off system and pick whichever game you wanna play that is located on the micro SD, in theory had the 3DS had a GBA slot it would have been fuuly compatible with the GBA similar to the DS.
I wouldn't say it was so much of a feature of the 3DS as it was a feature of the DS that was still in the 3DS as a likely initially unintended result of borrowed hardware to get DS games to run on the system. To be fair the ambassador games did have special text on the bottom screen denoting the hardware limitations while playing GBA games in that mode, but these games were not available at launch which is likely why it wasn't covered in the video.
The program he uses for injecting GBA roms is called NSUI (New Super Ultimate Injector, lmao). Not only can you inject your save file alongside the game, but the program also injects OG Gameboy, Game & Watch, NES, SNES, Game Gear, Genesis/Megadrive, TurboGrafX16/PC Engine, SG-1000, Master System, 32x, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Atari Lynx, Neo Geo Pocket + Pocket Color, Wonderswan + Wonderswan Color, Magnavox Odyssey and Playstation 1. Not that I'm complaining, but MSX/MSX2 would have been nice 😆
This video has made me SO nostalgic for the early 3DS days. The 3DS is BY FAR my favorite console, but of course, I'm heavily biased. When I got my 3DS in 2011, I was 10 years old and upgrading from the DSi to the 3DS was MIND BLOWING! The UI and all the little features like Streetpass went a long way in making it feel so special. I adore every little bit and feature the 3DS has. Going out shopping with my parents wasn't a bore anymore because bringing my 3DS and getting Streetpass was a lot of fun! And of course, getting those sweet sweet Playcoins too. Nothing will ever feel as special to the 3DS to me, thanks for the awesome video and all the memories ❤️
I got my 3DS in 2014 when I was 12 years old then upgraded to New 3DS XL in 2017. I can't describe how much it means to me! The New Nintendo 3DS family are the best consoles Nintendo ever made! You couldn't have said better too!
That was me when I was 7. Looking back it really did define me and who I'd become in my later years, even to now. Who would've thought a bunch of simple side programs on the system would spiral into me studying to become a programmer.
The DS may have been my first console, but the 3DS was the first console I purchased with my own money and truly fell in love with the world of video games. This video brought back some extremely fond memories I had of the system in its early days, especially seeing the footage of the built-in software and Nintendogs + cats. It was very clear that this video was incredibly special to you, and I personally think this is my favorite video that you've made. Thank you for this video and all of your incredible videos over the years.
Bonus thing: N3DS has the hardware to play GBA games natively, due to the DS mode being implemented. It's the reason why the GBA games that are available for ambassadors can't be put in sleep mode or do savestates, the system is in GBA Mode
I remember getting my first 3ds in 2014 for my 7th birthday by my grandfather. It will forever be a gem to me. There's something about the 3DS and the Wii U that the Switch is missing like a lot of Nintendo charm. And by Nintendo charm I mean by like Menu themes, or ambience to make it feel less lifeless.
@@shanerpressley I still have it lol...well to be fair it broke like 4 years later but I got a new one and managed to transfer my data. The problem with the old one was that the top screen and somewhat the bottom screen were badly damaged and the L and R buttons didn't respond. I'll still keep it with me though, broken or not. It was my first 3ds I've ever gotten. But anyways yeah the switch is missing some Nintendo magic. I saw the video on it by Nintendo hero and I 100% agree.
@@shanerpressley i bring my 3ds everywhere in my bag when i go out hoping someone out there is also walking around w streetpass on, and i still sometimes get streetpass encounters :D its always super exciting knowing people r still keeping their ds alive in 2021
I really appreciate the 3D slider. Because my other eye is partially blind I cannot see 3D effect and if I were to play 3DS with 3D on or even watch 3D movies my eyes would start to hurt pretty soon. With slider I am able to enjoy 3DS games without the 3D effect.
Theres also the Nintendo 2DS, which doesnt have the 3D effect by default. I still my old 3DS but i cant really appreciate the 3D effect fully since im visually impaired :(
The 3DS was the first console I did any serious gaming on. I had a Gamecube when I was little but I was too stupid to get past the first locked door in Luigi's mansion, so I don't really count that, whereas I got sucked into Ocarina of Time 3D and really grew to appreciate games as more than cool toys for the first time. I loved the 3DS so much as a kid, the 3D was always the coolest thing to me and I loved playing around with it and showing people how it worked. I adored all the extra capabilities the 3DS had. I used to print my own AR cards and I remember discovering the fact that bigger AR cards made bigger AR characters when I accidentally printed a card in A4 size. Then, not knowing how to print something bigger than that, I tried in vain to draw my own giant AR card. I had so much fun with the camera, with the voice recorder, all of these things are cherished memories for me and it's really cool seeing how hard won a lot of these features were. I'll always be grateful to the 3DS team for putting so much effort into that little console. All of those extra and, perhaps to some, "superfluous" features meant so much to me as a kid and even more so looking back on them now. What a special console. P.S. I upgraded from my old metallic blue 3DS to a New 3DS XL when i got into Monster Hunter, and moving my save data from one to the other almost felt like a betrayal. I kept the old one as a relic of sorts for ages before lending it to my girlfriend, who wasn't much of a gamer outside of playing Mario on her DS when she was a kid, and with it she also fell deeper in love with videogames. She also took to Ocarina like a fish to water and recently we've been able to enjoy a lot of games together, all thanks to my old 3DS acting as a stepping stone for her. Really, such a special little console (and Ocarina such a special game xD)
@@jennfreeman1962 I'll start by saying that the XL versions of the 3DS are identical to their small versions in performance. Old 3DS is the same as 3DS XL and the new 3DS is the same as the new 3DS XL, all that changes is their size. I personally love the tiny original 3DS for nostalgia reasons but they are absolutely uncomfortable and the L and R buttons always break, so I would definitely get an XL As for what is different about the New 3DS, it is slightly more powerful than the older models, which is great if you want to homebrew it and do some emulating. They also added SNES games to the eshop which you can't buy on Old 3DS (but you can emulate those on old 3DS if you homebrew it). They added a little nub on the right side of the console that acts like a second analog stick (like the circle pad pro on old 3DS models) which is super useful for Monster Hunter but not many other games use it. They added 2 more buttons at the back next to L and R, but most importantly if you care about the 3D feature, they added tracking to the front camera of the new 3DS so that the 3D can calibrate itself based on where your head is. On the Old 3DS you have to hold it in an exact position in front of your face or the 3D effect doesn't work, whereas on the new 3DS you can hold it whetever you want and the 3D will adjust to you, making it so so so much nicer to use. Small thing of note, because the new 3DS has it's own second analog stick, the Circle Pad Pro will not work with it, it only works with Old 3DS Sorry for the super long answer, but I hope this covers more or less everything. You can also find comparisons between old and new 3ds on youtube. I personally would recommend a new 3DS XL because of the 3D tracking and bigger screen, but all the 3DSs are great consoles I think. Ah, also to keep in mind, the 2DS is identical to an old 3DS in power but without the 3D, and the 2DS XL is identical to the new 3DS in power but without the 3D
@@jennfreeman1962 if you like the 3D effect I really really recommend the new 3ds. Whenever I try and use my original 3DS since getting the new one it feels like such a massive downgrade xD
The Nintendo 2DS (no, that’s not a typo) was my introduction to proper video games, with my first games being Tomodachi Life and Thomas & Friends: Hero of the Rails. I had so much fun playing with my 2DS for the first time and I still do to this day. The Nintendo Switch just doesn’t have the same amount of charm as the 3DS or even the Wii U.
The 2DS is the second DS I have had and still have. I had a DS before but I broke it when I was around the age of 6-7. I am really glad I am able to play DS and 3DS games on it. The first DS game I had was New Super Mario Bros. The castle music just hits different. I would say that I prefer the 2000s-early 2010s Nintendo devices like the Wii and DS’s. I’m getting off topic bc I am writing this comment at 12 AM but I am glad I have a 2DS to relive some of my fun DS memories.
the 3DS is one of the greatest consoles of all time. There are no other consoles that make me feel the way it does and I personally feel like it didn't get the recognition it deserved from all corners. I'll always remember my first experience with it and I'll never ever forget the pride when I purchased my own, and how much I still love it and cherish it.
Imagine being able to just create your own controller style just by swapping the d pad/circle pad like a cartridge. Actually doesn't sound that bad if you think about it.
So god damn weird to me that the 3DS/Wii U era is now nostalgia bait. Is this what getting old is like? My first games were on SNES, my first home console that was all mine was an N64, and I grew up in the Wii era. So the Wii U and 3DS came out when I was a young adult. Now I’m almost 30. Hate it man :/
this is my third attempt replying to you idk why it keeps deleting them. long story short, it would load mobile yt on a new 3ds, it still kinda works but not really. i also didnt type the comment on the 3ds bc the comment section wouldnt load properly when they moved it up to below the description
This makes me nostalgic, the 3DS was like my Wii’s right hand, I loved playing anything I had on it, and it’s my second favorite console just for how easy it was to pick up and play
Def agree. I bought my Special Pikachu Edition 3ds xl and didn't have a game for it for about 2 years. Once I bought that I couldn't afford a game for a while. Kirby Triple Deluxe was my first 3ds game. It's a really fun amazing game w lots of easter eggs and really cool use of the 3d. Planet Robobot has something really cool in 3d in the pool table levels those billiard balls look so crisp 👌
I was in my teens when the DS came out, and my 20s when the 3DS came out. Both systems accompanied me through many tough times and many good times. Thanks for the nostalgia trip!
This has been one of my favorites of yours. Being there for the whole launch and "death" of the system, this gives a lot of context and some cool facts. I love it. A heavy dose of nostalgia.
Aw yeah! The best console of all time! Also I love how you mention how the devs wanted the hinge to not slam down because well...my 3DS XL ended up doing that lol.
I’m so excited to watch this video! Nintendo’s hardware and OS design in this era was so great, and I’ve watched the Beta64 episodes on the Wii and DSi so much because of it! I think they even inspired me to become an Industrial Design major in college. Also, that scuffed red 3DS is remarkably similar to the one I have of the same model… really shows how time flies.
@@EPCOTFan82 bruh, you're called EPCOTFan82. Literally the Nintendo of every non-video game entertainment industry, but worse. But, yeah. Some say Nintendo was better during this era because the Wii U's failure put them on the defensive, but while product quality was better (there's no way they could get away with stick drift if it were happening on the Wii U) they also had that terrible RUclips policy and a lot of other anti-consumer things they're still doing were still happening.
@@EPCOTFan82 Yep, this. Bought a 3DS recently to redownload my old library and it shocks me how clunky and difficult it is to get games from another system (especially when your 1st system youre trying to take games from is broken, like mine was), and me realizing theres no refunds, as well as that whole Nintendo Badge Arcade thing, its all pretty slimy. Just kinda sucks they make great games and systems :/
I remember the year the 3DS came out, though I didn’t buy it immediately. I didn’t think it had any interesting games right away until Ocarina of Time 3D. Right around August, Nintendo offered two neat options. One for existing owners, the Ambassador program (consisting of 10 free NES games and 10 free GBA games all built in). The other option was just getting a price cut for potential new owners. Walmart accidentally combined both the price cut and the ambassador program. When I heard about that, I immediately went out to my nearest Walmart and bought a 3DS with both benefits! One of my most memorable purchases from Nintendo. I also bought Ocarina of Time 3D to go along with it!
The 3DS was the best thing that has ever happened to me, It’s so nostalgic and seeing those old Tomodachi life pictures on my camera roll always brought joy to me. I will always remember and continue to LOVE the system
Me too. There's a guy on RUclips if you watch on your 3ds I have the New 3ds xl not sure if that would matter, but he had thee best 3d videos I've ever seen the 3ds display. Stuff literally comes out of the screen really far. I've shown all my friends his vids and they're like so the 3ds could do outward 3d not just boring inward 3d. It's crazy not many games had any images coming out of the screen. There's a few in the puzzle swap if you complete a puzzle you get to view it in 3d and some of the characters do have spots that kinda clip out towards you it's pretty cool but nothing tops that dude on RUclips w the sword and other random stuff🙏💯👍it's really amazing to see
It’s bittersweet to see the 3DS have a BETA64 video. I love the 3DS and have so many fond memories with it and seeing start down the path of a dead console is sad to see. Just today I went to the Target that I used to go get my games at and just seeing that they got rid of all of the 3DS games made me sad. But, I’m still happy that you made this video going over in my opinion, one of the most influential consoles ever.
The 3DS Statistics(how long you played a game, when started, ect.) and Streetpass is still great to this day. I know everyone is into the Switch right now and stop caring about the 3DS Options, but man, i wish Nintendo would just copy paste those options to the Switch. Sadly... we are already 4+ years into the system and the Switch still don't have even standard things like Folders...
Hey man, found your channel thanks to Arlo and I have to say, your videos are absolutely phenomenal long form analyses and it’s evident how much work you put into them. I look forward to watching your older catalogue of videos as well as your future ones.
I know it's stupid but I appreciate you using so much music from the 3ds ost. Especially the pop music from the slideshow feature in Nintendo 3ds camera. It's so random but it was my favourite theme from that app and I would always make slideshows of photos I took of my old dog with that music. I have so many memories connected to the 3ds and it's music. I miss my original system. My mom got rid of it 5 or 6 years ago and I got a new model recently but is not the same
What an amazing video that has earned the 3DS some new respect in my eyes. You don't have to say that you appreciate it, you made that obvious in the rest of the vid with how much love was put into it :)

The soundtrack of this video really activated tons of memories for me; I was a 3ds kid, and anything having to do with the 3ds i love watching. I really do miss this era of gaming.
I'm much too old to have nostalgic feelings for the 3DS, and I also get the 3DS pretty late in its life time (2014). But I will say that I still use the 3DS quite a lot, almost every day. I find it so much better than the Switch in almost every way, and I still have a lot of games on it that I want to play. So the 3DS might be my favorite Nintendo console to date.
your style has increasingly become more and more natural and refined. i love to see the quality of your videos grow over time. speaking of, this was super elaborate and you got into so much stuff. love it. great work as always
Awesome Video! I didn't knew what big development process was made for this console, since i saw this as a improved DSi at first. Looking at this video, I can understand why the 3DS was an special type of Nintendo handheld & it's possibly for my latest experience becoming my favourite Handheld system.
dang, the development history behind the 3DS is pretty amazing, The DS family of handhelds remains my favorite to this day, the library, the friends I've made a lot of it just made it so special, I would give to have a special period of time like the 3DS era again
The DS's Metroid Prime title also used the StreetPass predecessor, in that game it was Rival Radar - passing anyone (or hanging out with/near them) would add them to a secondary friends list in the game. It was super fun!
i generally enjoy the switch, but I have so many memories of being young and booting up my 3ds and using every single app to its extent. Taking pictures and videos with the camera app, making silly voice recordings, playing nintendogs and tomodachi life, taking my 3ds to school and using my friends faces in face raiders, spending too many hours on AR games playing the fishing game to catch all fish. I even found out I had so many Streetpass friends in the mii plaza game, but many were just miis me and my sister would make to pass by our consoles. All around, great memories with me, my sister, and my elementary friends.
Hi Andrew! I wanted to say thank you so much for creating this amazing video! I’ve enjoyed every single minute of it! And it has brought me many nostalgic memories of my early gaming years as a kid! As always, it was really interesting to watch, and kept me intrigued! This time, it felt more special, personally. I spent a lot of time on my 3DS playing Mii Plaza, and other great games as a kid. I remember McDonald’s was huge for street pass! I’d get more than 5 street passes every time I visit McDonald’s! Heck, I even ask to go to McDonald’s without eating there, all just for street pass! Again, thank you Andrew and happy holidays!!! :)
Its amazing how this video got to be released 10 years after the launch of tge 3DS. Never experienced the original but went directly into the "new" line of 3DS and can assure its one of the best handheld systems ever made.
yessss thank you for this video. this is such a weird thing nintendo kept doing that nobody talks about. and i still believe they will make a vr system sooner or later.
wonderful video! i think it’s safe to say that Hideki Konno is a genius. streetpass is honestly one of my favorite ideas to ever come out of nintendo. it’s essentially a social media platform, but, with the assistance of the playcoin feature, encourages you to go outside to progress in the software. the playcoin feature wasn’t the most original idea (take the pokewalker for example), but streetpass itself was so original and fresh in the way that it was built into the console itself. it quite literally made the 3DS feel alive. i remember taking a trip to washington d.c. as a kid, being so incredibly excited to streetpass as many people as a could. i remember my jaw dropping after i ran into someone with the most puzzle pieces i’ve ever seen in puzzle swap. it’s just so insane to me that a built-in feature in a handheld video game console could make me so interactive with the world around me. and it’s so cool how it’s such a safe anonymous way to interact with people as well. not too much information about them, but not too little to be disinterested! if streetpass was on the switch, i would 100% bring it wherever i’d go.
I've learded so mutch from this video, never knew the background of the 3ds system. Compared to all Nintendo handheld systems, the 3ds is still rather unknow to me, as by the time I got one I was playing a lot less on handhelds than around the GBA / NDS days. Thanks and have a great holiday!
I loved those features too when I played the 3DS. I always made my 3DS like a pattern. I hate that it's not in the switch. It's those little things that made it special.
the 3DS, especially when Miiverse came along (RIP Miiverse), holds a special place in my heart. it was my first real handheld that i could play with friends and connect to people with, growing up in a rural place and being limited to school here and there. not to mention, the system itself was just. really cool, actually. i used that thing all the way up until the Switch was announced as the NX, and even then i still keep it charged and waiting for the day i decide i wanna take a crack at the ol' gal again.
3DS is the most innovative gaming device Nintendo has created for a long, long while. I absolutely love it. It's really shame that it got treated like just another handheld by majority of the developers, especially in terms of graphics and touchscreen. Only thing that has bothered me during years, is that the Beta 3DS models had TV-link capability that i actually had played on gaming conventions. But the feature was dropped of last minute. -It's kind of, they had "Switch", but decited not to release 3DS like that.
I still have all my 3Ds’s. Although I still miss when this little handheld was big and in the public eye. I miss stream passing with people at concerts.
thanks for watching the video, means the world to me ♥

I got my 3DS in 2014 when I was 12 years old then upgraded to New 3DS XL in 2017. I can't describe how much it means to me! The New Nintendo 3DS family are the best consoles Nintendo ever made!
You couldn't have said better too!
No no no New is better than old
That was me when I was 7. Looking back it really did define me and who I'd become in my later years, even to now. Who would've thought a bunch of simple side programs on the system would spiral into me studying to become a programmer.
I remember putting MK7 in and thinking "WOW! THIS IS JUST AS GOOD GRAPHICALLY AS THE WII!" which lol it wasn't but it did a good job convincing me.
My childhood…
all in a small, foldable package.
Yeap same here

I DIDNT SEE THE "HOOD" IN CHILDHOOD OH GOD LMAO

My teenhood, got one at age 12...
I’m very glad that he’s back with a new video. I’ve been rewatching his old stuff in anticipation for his return.

Bonus thing: N3DS has the hardware to play GBA games natively, due to the DS mode being implemented. It's the reason why the GBA games that are available for ambassadors can't be put in sleep mode or do savestates, the system is in GBA Mode
I installed ds games on my 2ds and it works completely fine
its not new 3ds exclusive
I remember getting my first 3ds in 2014 for my 7th birthday by my grandfather. It will forever be a gem to me. There's something about the 3DS and the Wii U that the Switch is missing like a lot of Nintendo charm. And by Nintendo charm I mean by like Menu themes, or ambience to make it feel less lifeless.
Finally someboy gets it! I hope you pick back up your system and try out some games that you missed
The 3DS is an engineering marvel and this video to me is an reminder of the level of innovation Nintendo used strive for: fun.
This video made me realize how much I miss Streetpass... I wish the Switch still had that, I liked seeing my friends' Miis.
Bring your 3DS out with you and try to get a tag at a mall or something
@@shanerpressley i bring my 3ds everywhere in my bag when i go out hoping someone out there is also walking around w streetpass on, and i still sometimes get streetpass encounters :D its always super exciting knowing people r still keeping their ds alive in 2021
True. The switch has Miis but it just doesn’t feel the same
Or an app for your phone made by nintendo with streetpass functionality
I have a question, sorry if you don't know but what's the difference between a New 3DS XL and a 3DS XL, besides certain games?
@@jennfreeman1962 I'll start by saying that the XL versions of the 3DS are identical to their small versions in performance. Old 3DS is the same as 3DS XL and the new 3DS is the same as the new 3DS XL, all that changes is their size. I personally love the tiny original 3DS for nostalgia reasons but they are absolutely uncomfortable and the L and R buttons always break, so I would definitely get an XL
As for what is different about the New 3DS, it is slightly more powerful than the older models, which is great if you want to homebrew it and do some emulating.
Small thing of note, because the new 3DS has it's own second analog stick, the Circle Pad Pro will not work with it, it only works with Old 3DS
Sorry for the super long answer, but I hope this covers more or less everything.
@@GenerallyBananas Thanks for telling me, I have a 3DS XL already, but I wanted to know the difference between it and the new ones, thank you!

Yeah
mine was 2ds too my first game was New super mario bros. 2
it was super magical when my mom got it for me

The 2DS is the second DS I have had and still have. I had a DS before but I broke it when I was around the age of 6-7. I am really glad I am able to play DS and 3DS games on it. The first DS game I had was New Super Mario Bros. The castle music just hits different. I would say that I prefer the 2000s-early 2010s Nintendo devices like the Wii and DS’s. I’m getting off topic bc I am writing this comment at 12 AM but I am glad I have a 2DS to relive some of my fun DS memories.
6:43 Hey look! Back when RUclips had dislikes shown still! This is some history right here! Those were the days...
I've been nostalgic for the 3DS for the last couple of weeks. Glad to see your videos ago, especially this one
the 3DS is one of the greatest consoles of all time. There are no other consoles that make me feel the way it does and I personally feel like it didn't get the recognition it deserved from all corners. I'll always remember my first experience with it and I'll never ever forget the pride when I purchased my own, and how much I still love it and cherish it.
I hope you've continued to play it into recent years, it hasn't stopped being great in the slightest ☺️
Hate it man :/
Totally valid Nostalgia though, 10 years is quite some time especially with a successor being out for close to 4 years
I'm "old" (30) and I have nostalgia for the early 2010s. I don't find myself enjoying things less as I get older, so maybe that's why.
you can easily be nostalgic for something 10 years prior, i saw alot of people in late 2000s being nostalgic about the 90s and shit
@@steel5897 you're doing everything right then!
This console was my childhood, it means more to me than I can put into words. Thank you for doing an episode on it :)

On the main YT? Or on Invidious/CloudTube?

This makes me nostalgic, the 3DS was like my Wii’s right hand, I loved playing anything I had on it, and it’s my second favorite console just for how easy it was to pick up and play

It feels like a lot more love + thought went into the 3DS than the Switch
Nintendo then: "We NEED to give the public our best! FIX EVERYTHING!"
Nintendo now: "Joycon drift? I have no idea what you're talking about..."
The sad part is that it was just 12 years ago...

Our boy Beta64 does it again. Definitely one of my favorite videos of yours. The DS systems played a huge role in my life
Man, Nintendo was such a great company. I miss them, they have gone downhill on my respect points and i want the old Nintendo to come back
Nintendo has never been a good company, they've always been anti-consumer, you're just old enough to see it now. Bad company that makes great games.

So many good memories with this system. I love you, 3DS.
Truly incredible and never completely forgotten
The 3DS was the best thing that has ever happened to me, It’s so nostalgic and seeing those old Tomodachi life pictures on my camera roll always brought joy to me. I will always remember and continue to LOVE the system
I love the 3d feature! I use it nearly all of the time and get sad when it doesn't appear in certain games.

Sadly... we are already 4+ years into the system and the Switch still don't have even standard things like Folders...

yessss thank you for this video. this is such a weird thing nintendo kept doing that nobody talks about. and i still believe they will make a vr system sooner or later.
wonderful video! i think it’s safe to say that Hideki Konno is a genius. streetpass is honestly one of my favorite ideas to ever come out of nintendo. it’s essentially a social media platform, but, with the assistance of the playcoin feature, encourages you to go outside to progress in the software. the playcoin feature wasn’t the most original idea (take the pokewalker for example), but streetpass itself was so original and fresh in the way that it was built into the console itself. it quite literally made the 3DS feel alive. i remember taking a trip to washington d.c. as a kid, being so incredibly excited to streetpass as many people as a could. i remember my jaw dropping after i ran into someone with the most puzzle pieces i’ve ever seen in puzzle swap. it’s just so insane to me that a built-in feature in a handheld video game console could make me so interactive with the world around me. and it’s so cool how it’s such a safe anonymous way to interact with people as well. not too much information about them, but not too little to be disinterested! if streetpass was on the switch, i would 100% bring it wherever i’d go.

Words cannot describe how upset I am how many features we're missing on the Switch that are on the 3DS:

the 3DS, especially when Miiverse came along (RIP Miiverse), holds a special place in my heart. it was my first real handheld that i could play with friends and connect to people with, growing up in a rural place and being limited to school here and there. not to mention, the system itself was just. really cool, actually. i used that thing all the way up until the Switch was announced as the NX, and even then i still keep it charged and waiting for the day i decide i wanna take a crack at the ol' gal again.
That's not a beta thing. Those were just dev units. All dev units have tv out.
I still have all my 3Ds’s. Although I still miss when this little handheld was big and in the public eye. I miss stream passing with people at concerts.

miyamoto looks so giddy in the 3ds trailer and i love it
It's always good to end a Sunday night with a Beta64 episode on the 3DS. A time honored tradition by many.
No matter what, i find all of these videos extremely interesting and like the vid before I even get through the ad 👍
