Great job on this one. Glad to see you took the criticism into consideration, but not regressing and still taking the content in the direction you wanted. @@matchimeow2859 But Starfox 2 was an actual game. Mario 128 was just a tech demo, and frankly it probably never was anything but a tech demo internally. They just kept working on the tech aspect of it until they saw, "Hey, this tech can be used in something" and that's when they made Super Mario Galaxy.
26:29 Keep in mind that animation still could've been from a Mario Tennis, just that the Galaxy model wasn't designed to be rigged with it and thus looks all fruity loops.
I think the “don’t make players want to quit half way” goal of the development team was pretty successful! When I was 4/5, I had no attention span or smarts when it came to video games. Super Mario Galaxy was one of the few games I was able to complete and stuck with to the end.
I still had the same quitting halfway through problem I have with all the Mario games, but somewhat for a different reason, usually it just got way too frustrating past a certain point but Galaxy only got a bit more frustrating and I just moved onto a different game. I have ADHD and tend to hyper focus on a specific game for a while, and Galaxy was no exception, and that hyper focus just ran out rather than giving up from frustration and then moving into something else.
Japanese is my second language, so I will weigh in on this. Regarding the unused enemy torimochi / 取り持ち 取り持ち in Japanese literally means to take possession of something. tori 取り can actually mean either Bird 鳥 or take / acquire, but in this context, it means to take or acquire in some way given the function of the enemy. 持ち means to hold in some way. If the function of the enemy is to take coins in some way, I can see my idea. However, on second thought, this looks nothing like a bird but the material of the creature does seem slime-like given the unofficial name "Birdlime" which may come from mochi itself, a Japanese food. I'm not sure what it is, maybe it was a bird originally or just a place-holder name or some unknown origin, but there are two meanings for this enemy and it could be either. Just wanted to give my insight.
Maybe Torimochi would have behaved similarly to a Like Like in some way. Maybe they were a stationary "hazard" type enemy that would trap Mario and drain either coins or star bits until he gets spat out or breaks free through jump-mashing or spinning. I can see Torimochi gunning for star bits, like a land-based counterpart to the whale enemy that has a "penchant for coins".

12:10 except that she’s still named Rosetta in the Japanese version.
also at 15:58 the second part of the sound effect kinda sounds like his lava burning sound effect from Mario 64.
15:58 It is.
Wow, this is definitely a step up from the last episode! Keep up the great work. I hope you give Sonic 06 a look one day.
“A new galaxy appeared!”
**Visual confusion*
Full respect goes to this guy! He went out of his way for over a year to make this masterpiece!
I always appreciate anything related to the best mario game, especially when it takes a year to create! EDIT: this video earned u a lifetime subscriber :)
SMG is the best Mario game (well tied with galaxy 2, but their two sides of the same story.
That burning sound effect is from Mario 64 - although I can't tell whether it was the ds version or the original
It must be from the DS one, since I've never heard it before and I've played the original (unless I'm just remembering wrong.)
It's definitely the ds version.
That’s not the og mario 64
It's the DS version, the original has a slightly lower pitch
I dont know what it is but seeing so many Mario's roll each other off a platform and throw boxes makes me smile
3:09 “Great Scott! It’s Scott! And its got a Wii U in its clutches!”
-Scooter Carrot, *Larryman Twice*
Finally watched this the whole way through and you've covered so much stuff I'd never seen before anywhere else on the internet! I was blown away when I saw you bring in those original level models. Great video. It's one of the best you've ever done!
4:41 I was like “the Beatle George Harrison?”

“We’re not even half way though the video”
*checks the time, see’s it’s half way through the video*
xD
No, it's 14.67 seconds away from the half point.
G.Z. MacLeod close enough
16:10 the sound effects Mario makes is from Mario 64 when he's burned by fire in from the N64 system. Nor sure about the boinging sound.
Probably someone already replied you but if they haven't now you have the answer.
I would say the brown and green Mario was a beta version of the rock Mario in Galaxy 2. In my opinion at least
Actually it's one of his alternate color palettes from Smash Bros, based on his appearance from the Japanese boxart of Wrecking Crew.
Possibly a hammer powerup?
I've been waiting for years and you got my boy scott in this!?!?
Hell Yeah!
Pop Star: Exists
Beta64: *”It’s a star...that’s a P L A N E T.”*
