- Ever looked at a Tesla Model 3 and wondered about that intriguing matte finish? Stick around, and we'll lift the curtain on this mystery.
➡️ Dive into this deep-dive tutorial where we'll unwrap the secrets behind bulk installing a matte-finish Paint Protection Film (PPF) on the rear bumper of a Tesla Model 3. Now, we teased you into wondering about the difference between matte and gloss PPF, didn't we? Time for the reveal: the distinction is pretty stark. When you're dabbling with matte PPF, ensuring that every inch of that glossy paint is securely under wraps is paramount. But hey, don't just take our word for it. See for yourself as we walk you through the ins and outs of this process. We've got the matte magic down to a tee.
But remember, PPF application isn't just about slapping on a protective layer. A true master of the craft is someone who's also intimately familiar with the vehicle's anatomy. Occasionally, a perfect install might require disassembling certain sections of the car. And in doing so, three things are non-negotiable: Safety. Accuracy. Precision. Need a little more guidance on this? Our linked videos below will come in handy.
Let's roll up our sleeves and dive into the world of matte PPF on a Tesla Model 3 bumper. As we journey from the starting point to the grand finale, you'll notice that applying matte PPF isn't just about mimicking the gloss process. Covering all visible gloss sections when converting to a matte finish isn't just critical-it's an art. Join us as we unravel tips, techniques, and hidden gems during this PPF matte installation.

Like getdipped have said, you are helping a lot of people with your videos to get over the starting anxiety :). We talked over a month ago about installing a precut kit on a new RS6. The job went quite smooth, but since then i did a S5, a RSQ8 and tommorrow i'll start doing a X6M competition. So thanks again for doing this.
Thank you for the comment. You are getting some nice cars to work on. I remember that conversation. Are you taking a lot of pictures? How are liking installing PPF? It gets much easier over time. I still get cars that kick my butt from time to time. 🤣😂 I just did a Supra (for the first time) and the bumper took way more time than I thought it would. 🤦🏻♂️😁
@@EncorePPFtint how do I like it? It is a new challenge for me. I'm not 100% satisfied with my results but my clients seem to appreciate what I'm doing. I got over the anxiety of cutting ppf on cars pretty quickly. My detailing mentality and my lack of experience don't go really well together, but im confident that slowly, project by project i will get where i want to be.
What i see different between what you do and what i do is you somehow make the ppf stick effortlessly in concave shapes. I do not use xpel, and i just struggle to make it stay there. The ambient temperature has a role in installation process?
And i almost had e supra mk5 for a full front and roof, but life happened and the owner had to reschedule 😁
Happy customers are a great sign. Give yourself a break. 😁 It's never going to be perfect. Like any trade, the beginning is the toughest for sure. You'll get better. You being a detailer makes your expectations much higher than your customers. Mine are very high as well. Rarely is a customer more picky about my work than I am. I tell customers, "we're not going for perfect, perfect is unobtainable, but we are going for Damn Good!"
So... as far as the tacking without much tac solution, it is all about dialing your slip solution. Keep in mind that a tacky install is a whole new technique. It takes time to perfect it. You need to know exactly how much soap you are using. Then, start to dial it down until you get to where you want to be. Trial and error. If you see in the videos, I shake my hand(s) while they are flat on the material. That is technique to untack the minor pretacking so i can move the PPF into place. I also need to pull the PPF back a lot in order to spray more slip be hond the film. My solution causes a lot of pretacking, and those techniques are how i have adjusted to work with minimal soap in my slip.

The adhisive gets much tackier as it gets warmer.
If you watch my video on the dodge challenger hood, I use a lot more soap. That way, I can take more to during the installation. Same with the Tesla Model Y hatch in one piece. That also means I use a lot more tac solution and straight warm water as well.
I use PremiumShield and SunTek. We don't use XPEL either. 👍🏻
Great observations! Thank you for watching the videos and leaving comments.
I think it's a great pace, thanks for asking!
I appreciate the feedback! 👍🏻
I think the way you sped up some segments of the video works really well. It shortens the length of The video but doesn’t take away from the information you’re providing. I think most people tend to shy away from longer videos.
Great feedback Wayne. Thank you! :) I owe you a taco now!
@@EncorePPFtint two tacos 👍
Great tutorial - thank you! 🙂🙏🙏
No problem. Thank you for the feedback!!
Thanks for the videos! I think the speed of this one is perfect.
thanks for doing it from start to finish. this helps us new installer to tackle something like that
I'm very glad to hear that it's helpful! Are you working at a shop, have your own business, or are you learning at home?
@@EncorePPFtint I have a detailing business (part time) mostly ceramic and I just started doing PPF. Dont have a machine to cut templates so most likely i'll be doing bulk cut
Welcome to PPF. I think it will be a great addition to your detailing and Ceramic coating. Bulking PPF is a great skill to have. Very necessary. If you get around to wanting to spend the money on a plotter and software you'll find that kits are another skill that is great have. I edit most the kits I install in the computer before cutting them out with the plotter. It's a bit more of a hybrid install.
You've helped me learn a lot from your videos, these are obviously meant to be educational instead of entertaining. So I think going into detail is a really good thing, keep it up 🙏
Are you new to PPF, or have you been installing for a while? You've got some good points, and I appreciate the feedback. You are correct. The videos need to be educational. I was worried I might be speeding up parts that people needed slower so they could learn from them.
Matte finish look so nice, premium feel.
I agree. It looks nice. A bit muted or soft. I really enjoy installing Matte/Stealth PPF.
I have over a dozen bumpers so the 2X speed is better for me. thank you !
I appreciate the feedback. It seems like a lot of people like the mondain parts sped up. 👍🏻
Hey Brent, I actually enjoy the videos in real-time better. It helps to really see the techniques used. If the videos are too long, maybe you can divide them into part 1, part 2, etc. Thank you for the awesome content!
I appreciate the feedback. What do you think about the silent parts where I'm not talking. Do I need to add music to those spots, or does silence seem fine. I worry people are going to get bored, but I know they can just skip ahead. Maybe I can add chapters or put text in the video to tell viewers what time they can skip to in order to bypass the Squeegeeing and other more repetitive parts. 🤔
@@EncorePPFtint I personally don’t care for background music. I think it’s a little distracting. Silence is fine with me. Interjecting little comments, even simple ones can break the silence up a bit. Even if you’re just saying things like, “make sure you use overlapping strokes”, or something like that. Just my opinion :)
I do say that a bit. 😂🤣 Thank you for replying. Lots of time goes into making these videos, and I want them to be as helpful as possible. 👍🏻😁 I'm sure I can find some more things to say.
Thank you for this tutorial
Of course. Hopefully, you found it helpful
I love the long full videos
Well... that's perfect then! We'll be a good fit. 😁 Welcome to the channel. I look forward to seeing you in the comments. 👍🏻
Great video.thank you
Thank you! 👍🏻
Speed is great. Can you slow video how to do the final trimming. Thanks again. Great videos
Noted! I will go back and see if I still have the edited video of this install. Then I might be able to slow it back down and upload a new video about trimming ppf on a bumper or some thing like that. I write this idea down, thank you for it! 👍😀
I like learning and doing diy. What is the best place to buy bulk ppf with warranty? I’m looking for matte ppf. Thanks again.
I can help you get some PPF but I'm not sure what the warranty will look like when installed yourself. All on the PPF brands we can get will have a 7-10 year warranty on the material side.
you are very good and professional, thanks for video
Thank you for the feedback! I really appreciate it. 👍
GM thanks for sharing , Im a Tinter been in different ppf training and I like more to do PPF bulk and hand cut tha installing kits😅
Thank you for the feedback.👍🏻 How do you like installing PPF? Do you use a computer to cut out tint, or do you do that by hand as well? I also started out as a tinter (1998). I tinted for 5-6 years before getting a roll of PPF. They didn't have training (2004) like they do now.
I do enjoy hand cutting (bulking). Kits take some time to learn how to install. You are installing another person's design. Once you get used to it, you'd be surprised how amazing some of the newer patterns fit. CORE (Eastman) and DAP (XPEL) have the best patterns. 👌🏻 😁
@@EncorePPFtint Awesome I have learned a lot watching your vid, thanks, I have done pretty much full front nose mostly bulk , we just got a Graphtec with core on January getting used to it 👍
That's a nice plotter. We run GCC Jaguars. It's good to know how to bulk and install kits. Both are valuable skills. 👍🏻
Awesome job with the video!
Much appreciated. Thank you for the feedback. Welcome to the channel! Are you a PPF installer or just getting started?
Jack of all trades master of (1) one (electrical) 😊
great knowledge you are very professional thanks for share to everyone your knowlege
Thank you for the feedback! I really appreciate it. 😁 I look forward to seeing you around the channel some more. 👍🏻
Another great video, thanks!!
Can u make a video on I installing PPF on a Model Y front bumper, with a single PPF sheat??
I ask cuz I couldn't find one in ur videos.
Thank you for the request. I'm sure I recorded the front bumper on this install. Let me see what I can find. Sometimes, I mess up the recording, and then the footage is useless. 🤣😂 Also, if I remember correctly, I had to piece in a section in the middle on the bottom of the bumper because I didn't stretch the film from left to right enough. 🤔 Would that still be helpful? I might need to record a new video. I'll start looking around for a model Y. 👍🏻
@EncorePPFtint I watch the front bumper tesla KIT, but was wondering about an install without the kit.
Cuz using kits on a white car is not good, cuz it will collect dirt between the seams. Well that is what people are telling me (I'm a newbie!)
True, seams can hold dirt. I'll start looking for a model y I can bulk the bumper on in one piece. 👍🏻 It might take just a little while. 😁
Speed is perfect👍
Which PPF do you use?
Greetings from Germany
Ralph
We used the stealth/matte PPF by PremiumShield in this video. So, I can't say if it installs any better than any other matte. I didn't have any issues with the material though. 👍
I think it's awesome that we can interact with each other all the way around the world! 🌎
Hello, at the end of the video you said you would apply heat to the edges. Did you use a heat gun and why didn't you show it?
I have a video coming out this Sunday the 26th. It will go over finishing edges and the heat sealing process. Almost a full hour of finishing edges on one vehicle.
Yes, I do use a heat gun for heat sealing the edges. I don't finish the edges on each video because I think is a bit boring, long, and super repetitive. I thought people wouldn't want to watch it, but maybe I'm wrong? Maybe I should show a little of it.
There is also this video that goes over trimming and heat sealing the edges on a hood.
ruclips.net/video/wWwMDXjHy2c/видео.html
When you tack the center and stretch to each side, you don't get that stretch line from where the PPF is tacked?
Nevermind just watched the rest of the video lol. Smart thing to do to release the center after stretching👍
😂🤣😂🤣 You were right, though! It definitely would leave stretch marks.
As a joke, I was just about tell you to stop skipping the boring parts in my videos. You missed that step. 😂🤣
@@EncorePPFtint haha lol. I appreciate the informative videos.
Thank you for the comments. I'm happy the videos are helpful. 👍🏻
Thank you brother ❤❤😊
No problem 😊 Thank you for watching! Did you watch this for the Tesla install or the Matte PPF install? Also, would you like to see more videos on this matte install? I'm pretty sure I recorded the most of the install.
What size roll did you use for model3? Is it 30" for most and 60" for the hood?
Yes, I'm pretty sure you can get away with only using a 30" and 60" roll on this vehicle. We are starting a matte conversion on one next week. We are only using a 60" roll on that one. 👍🏻
1. What is the solution you spray on?
2. How much does the price and material needed to wrap this car ?
Here is a video that goes over my install solutions: ruclips.net/video/xGjn2rwh-W4/видео.html
I'll update this comment after looking up how much material is needed for this install.
Do you sell bulk ppf matte finish by xpel? To cover 2023 model y? Or how much for precut? Kit for whole car?
We have sold some bulk material and kits in the past. Reach out to us at my email address and my wife will get some pricing. 👍
Thanks for the valuable content! Greetings from Chile ❤
Thank you for the feedback. Welcome to the channel! 👍🏻😁
Thanks for the videos! Can you do video on how to do door and door handle (not Tesla tesla door handle if you can) in matt PPF? What brand do you use?
We use PremiumShield and SunTek (both owned by Eastman). I can Definity to a video on that. I did a full body Escalade recently. Let me see if the footage is good. 👍We do a ton of Tesla's, So a lot of the footage ends up being on those. I have a Chevy and a GMC truck coming in this week or next week for full body PPF. I'll get that recorded and then on the list to edit.
@@EncorePPFtint Thank you!
Did you want to see a bulk install or a kit on the door and handle?
@@EncorePPFtint Bulk install please. I am very curious about edge coverage.
Ok. I'll see what i can record next week. 👍🏻
Thanks for the video, Brent!! When do you decide to do Bulk versus Pre-cut? I've never done a full vehicle before, but a new customer wants to do his Model Y. Suggestions?
Hey, good question. I do it for the challenge sometimes. Lots of these kits are great now, but sometimes I want fewer seams on a bumper. I bulk almost every hood and sideview mirror. I think it is easier to bulk them and comes out cleaner. Some parts I bulk because I don't like the coverage the software is offering. With matte film, I want little to no seams. Lots of times, when I use kits, I delete parts and expand all of the edges. It is basically a lot like bulking at that point. I'm not sure if that answer was helpful or on point at all. 🤣😂 Kit VS bulking will also depend on the customer and expectations, as well as the price point on the project.
As far as the Model Y goes, it's pretty straightforward. Are you thinking about a kit install or bulking? The rear hatch is the most difficult part by far. I posted that video of a model 3 trunk where I installed the 2 piece kit from CORE. I've never 2 pieced the Model Y hatch. I think the Y will be a great first full vehicle. No roof is nice! I normally remove the plastic fender flairs and extend the patterns under them. Honestly, the Tesla kits are pretty sweet. I do make adjustments to them (not always), though, but that is only personal preference. I also normally remove the cameras, badges, tailights (sometimes), and the tow hook covers.
Toss more questions my way if I can be helpful. 😁👍🏻
Very good job brother. I like job
Thank you so much 😁
Hi great content, speeding up squeegee and normal speed of a tactics is great idea if you not a newbie thumb up
Great insight, that makes sense. Thank you for this feedback! 👍🏻 I guess it might be a good idea to do a little of both. Maybe I can label them differently so people know if a video is more beginner or advanced, more sped up (2x speed) or slower passed (1x speed).
Plus I don’t have to wait as long to see the swipe and hold and the swipe and chomp! 😂
You changer you profile picture! Work hat?

I have to use a lot of soapy water. Clean sammiches! 😂🤣
where to get the ppf
We install PremiumShield Matte from Eastman on this vehicle. 👍🏻
Hi, thanks for the info but not what I asked. Since your video has diy in your title, my question was , where do I GET THE film to diy not what you install.
That is a good question. I was letting you know that you can contact Eastman and they can sell you PPF. We might also be able to assist in getting you some film. Are you in the United States? Please reach out by email. Info@encorewindowtinting.com
@@EncorePPFtint thanks. Yes I am in the US. Do I have to be certified or authorized to buy ppf or can I do it without that ? Also Would be nice to get links to the tac solution and other things used for the install
