There is quite a resurgence of interest in these 'classic' hulls/outboards underway.... and not just for their lines/appearances/speed capabilities but also by young families for their versatlity in getting out on the water enjoy themselves without breaking the Bank ! THX for Sharing !
That's sweet man I got a sidewinder with 200hp mercury. She boogies. I can't wait to go back to the shuswaps. Maybe I'll see you guys there and make some new friends! Nice boats!
My dad used to have a CVX16... Lately I've been getting the urge to track that boat down, restore it, and put a fully-built merc racing 2.5 2 stroke v6 on there to push about 350hp... People keep saying it's sketchy at speed though, but like... What would be a safer hull to go with for trying 100+ with a single outboard? Looking for a 5-6 seat "cruiser" (meaning I don't care about fishing and would only do watersports if it was convenient) with classic speedboat/runabout looks like the CVX or one of those ole wooden speedboats. But, y'know... Stable at 100+ OH, also a bit of a bonus if it's decent in rough water, too. I plan for mixed ocean and lake usage. Hence the outboard.
I mean that cvx is definitely sketchy at just 50mph. That being said, you could put a hydraulic 6 to 8 inch set back box and some good/long trim tabs to stabilize the thing and it could reach some good speeds. Transoms on those things require some re-enforcing to handle big power!
@@adrenalinok9224 So what are some other options I might look at, then? What's stable at 80+ under 20ft with 5-7 seats and decent in roughish water that you might find in the gulf/Tampa bay area/not too far offshore of Miami/the east coast? I'm not gonna take the thing like 50+ miles offshore or anything, but I don't want it to be a death trap or just unbearable to run in the sorta-rough stuff. A high freeboard is nice, too. Don't want the steering wheel in my lap or my seats all the way on the floor, y'know?
The 150 and the 235 are acually the same block and cowl size! The differences are in the carb, exhaust, port, and piston size. As for :54, That prop is on there because I had borrowed that boat to my friend for the day. Cant risk a good prop lol!
Did you ever try more prop ? What kind of pace does the viper have ? I’ve got a cvx with a 150 v6. Had a 23” on her but needs a 25” to bring the rpm down a little. Ran a 66 gps but was pretty hairy at about 60-62 for sure.
Ahh theV6 3duce Johnson 235 had one on a 22 Revenge Whaler cuddy & do 55 my sweetheart brother not knowing just needing a water gasket took 500. trade toward a 225 Rude V-tec he was purchasing Ahhhhh!!!!

Where is this at? Beautiful and nice fast water!
Kalamalka Lake in the Okanagan valley BC
beautiful
Only Russ Roger's would think a rebuilt japanese motor would be better than a Big Johnson
:54 your buddy needs a stainless Raker, why does that 150 look the same size as your 235?

150 ,175, 200, 235 all same size i bought new in 1981 and still have a laser 18.5 foot with a 235
@@adrenalinok9224 I didn’t know that, very interesting!
@@jimmycline4778 1979 and older 150-235 where 2.4 liters, 1980 and up 235 and 2.6xp was 2.6, later 175hp XP/GT was a 2.6 all the rest 2.4
Nice boats & motors but sad how someone defaces nature and those cliffs @4:25.
Agreed! The entire area around the cliff is totaly littered too ☹️.
How does the cvx go ? She quick with that 150 ? How does she compare to the viper ?
51mph with a 21 tempest. That motor has alot of torque so I'm going to try a 23 or 25 pitch! Cvx sketchy at speed though😬

a 235 crossflow is pushing a 22' revenge to 36-38mph tops buddy... youd need a 300 to hit 55mph. or are we talkin KPH>?
That Yamaha, rebuilt, would be a MUCH better motor than the OMSeize.... SWEET BOATS though... I have a CVX-17 and love the old Streams.
Haha johnson
6 cylinder thunder bolt mercury came on my 68 Larson Lapine, could not imagine how it would have gone ,have 60 4 stroke honda still fun but o man!
