    Only Russ Roger's would think a rebuilt japanese motor would be better than a Big Johnson

    My dad used to have a CVX16... Lately I've been getting the urge to track that boat down, restore it, and put a fully-built merc racing 2.5 2 stroke v6 on there to push about 350hp... People keep saying it's sketchy at speed though, but like... What would be a safer hull to go with for trying 100+ with a single outboard? Looking for a 5-6 seat "cruiser" (meaning I don't care about fishing and would only do watersports if it was convenient) with classic speedboat/runabout looks like the CVX or one of those ole wooden speedboats.
    But, y'know... Stable at 100+ OH, also a bit of a bonus if it's decent in rough water, too. I plan for mixed ocean and lake usage. Hence the outboard.

      I mean that cvx is definitely sketchy at just 50mph. That being said, you could put a hydraulic 6 to 8 inch set back box and some good/long trim tabs to stabilize the thing and it could reach some good speeds. Transoms on those things require some re-enforcing to handle big power!

      @@adrenalinok9224 So what are some other options I might look at, then? What's stable at 80+ under 20ft with 5-7 seats and decent in roughish water that you might find in the gulf/Tampa bay area/not too far offshore of Miami/the east coast?
      I'm not gonna take the thing like 50+ miles offshore or anything, but I don't want it to be a death trap or just unbearable to run in the sorta-rough stuff. A high freeboard is nice, too. Don't want the steering wheel in my lap or my seats all the way on the floor, y'know?

    How does the cvx go ? She quick with that 150 ? How does she compare to the viper ?

      51mph with a 21 tempest. That motor has alot of torque so I'm going to try a 23 or 25 pitch! Cvx sketchy at speed though😬

    :54 your buddy needs a stainless Raker, why does that 150 look the same size as your 235?

    • @adrenalinok9224
      @adrenalinok9224  Год назад +1

      The 150 and the 235 are acually the same block and cowl size! The differences are in the carb, exhaust, port, and piston size. As for :54, That prop is on there because I had borrowed that boat to my friend for the day. Cant risk a good prop lol!
