there is just something about working on small engines that just makes me so happy.
For real tho.
clean and balance my zx9 carbs then
That profile pic smokes rocks
It harkens back to HS auto shop.
I know what you are saying.
Who wouldn't love a little boat like that? Very small, doesn't require huge amounts of cash to operate, needs very little maintenance and so simple to work on. This is great for hours of fun on a salt river or freshwater lake or pond. You could operate that 30 HP outboard all day for very little money and can pull it on the road with literally ANYTHING! What's not to like?
Most fun for least amount of money! Now go finish cleaning the fence.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Just rip it down and start over
😂

Adorable, especially with a young couple riding it. Feels like something out of Jetsons or Futurama.
When I was 13 we went to Disney in Florida and the highlight of the whole park was renting the mini speedboats that looked exactly like that one. That was 42 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday.
Funny how things can take you back to a precise moment in time.
@@fastasfox true that, or a certain smell can have the same effect good and bad.. make you remember the little details of the day it happened or certain smells might make you think of your spouse man or woman it's all crazy how u remember things when certain things line right up
Crazy carts i remember then. so fun
When I was there around 15 years ago they still had those!
Good memories
Neat boat. Back in the late 70's I wanted one of these bad.
@Lteo Hrnt Me too. I'm 60 now in '74 I was 14 and we lived on the Ohio river water skiing . Little aluminum V haul and fiberglass tri haul runabouts . Life was wonderful .
In the late 70's my neighbors, at the cottage, had one of these. I wanted one so bad. Awesome little boat.
I had a 10 foot Veck speed boat with a 33 hp Johnson with Dolefins on it. It had the center front sear and steering wheel, and had a rear seat that was a 4 foot wife 2x6 with a cushion on it. We had a speed prop on it and had more fun with that that little boat than any boat
I've ever owned.
Neat! Used to water ski behind a 13.5 ft Boston Whaler with
a 40 hp engine. It used to top out at about 30mph. Your boat has less hp, but better aqua dynamics, so the top speed is probably about the same as the Whaler.
What I love is how only 30mph can still feel fast on the water
104 on a jet ski is terrifying if nothing else
About the fastest I've been on the water is 70-ish and that was more than enough for me.
30mph feels fast over anything when you're face is about 2 feet above it
Now try 50 on a tritoon
@@haroldgladysvanveldhuizen9110 50 isnt that much honestly my friend has an allison hes got to 92.1
Looks like there's a good bit of adjustment that can be done to the trim of the engine. With just the driver in it you should easily get at least 35-40mph
Yea, you can raise the trim when up to speed. Reduces drag I believe
Trim will absolutely help it.
@Memer Dreamer your experience must have missed the part of the video where he hits 28mph on GPS.
@Memer Dreamer that boat is for sure lighter than most zodiaks tho.....
@Memer Dreamer the rubber on the zodiaks makes them heavier than this boat ...... smaller zodiaks are generally not lighter than 80-90 pounds this tiny fiberglass boat weighs no more than that guaranteed..... It's comparable tho it's not like it's much lighter but fiberglass boats that small weigh nothing most jetski's weigh more than that tiny boat 😂
That boat is a GW Invader, I owned one several years ago it was a real hoot with an old 55 Hp Merc behind it. Be careful with the high speed turns, no keel, flat bottom, it can kind of get away from you. I did one really scary unintentional 180 once.
I wonder if you could put some sponsons on it like a jetski?
it actually looks like an Exhilarator 101b, Gw invaders dont have the extra hump in the middle. its a copy of the GW
Yeah GW Invater. Very cool!
Not a GW Invader but very similar, I had a GW Invader many years ago. The boat was absolutely insanely fast with the 70 hp old school six cylinder Mercury that I had on it.
Small block Chevy would fit
Looks like a tiny little fun boat to spend the day with.
i totally want one....i found a couple of early 70's Jame Bond Glastron GT's for sale in Florida, rebuilt for $4K
Let me tell you that in the world I live, this boat would be just for few that have money and admire real good pleasures in life, just because it is so tiny and completely worthy of being purchased. Don't say the day with - Just for an experience it must be a week !!!
I'm really impressed by how you work with those carbs so effortlessly, obviously evidence of lots of experience. The last time i tried working on a carb it was on a 1980 MGB. Tried rebuilding it myself, only to end up with little parts and screws leftover at the end that i had no idea where they belonged. Needless to say, my MG didn't run any better....well, not at all actually. I now own an older Evinrude outboard and am trying to get smart on this engine. Your videos help a lot.
::‑X:-(:-):-)
It's awesome how he just goes in on the carbs. No hesitation. I wish I had that level of experience
learned my lesson with carbs a while ago, just buy a new one lol
Oh hell, late '70s and '80s carbs are about as bad as they can get. Had you just went Weber SD's, you may have loved the little buggers.
my dad would call those left over screws, extras
the look of satisfaction on your face cleaning that fence, made the lifejackets being left in the boat ok with me.
You are not a poor man, you are in good company, the best treasure one can ask for. Cheers from Argentina.
Well said
It brings back a lot of memories for me. That looks almost just like my first boat 40 years ago. Same red and white color too. Mine was a 10 foot GW Invader. I had a little Thunderbolt 50 Merc on it. I had a lot of fun with that little boat. Good luck with her.
I had a 10ft GW Invader too Scott. Had a 45 Chrysler short shaft on it. Early 80's Sure brings back memories!
Had identical boat back in the 80s, had a 60 Merc on it, what a blast.
@John Higgs, these hulls are a little on the heavy side, so 60 was just right for jumping out of the hole and getting on plane quick, then very stable and predictable at speed.
There's no such thing as luck. Everything has a cause. Also how God's existence is proven. They've taken the proofs for the existence of God out of modern DEeducation but the proofs for the existence of God are a staple in any undergraduate philosophy tract. They're called St Thomas's 5 proofs. You can't get to Catholicism via logic alone but the sheer existence of God and that He must, for example, be One, IS proven. Here's one. You see that things have a cause. If you don't assent to this you're simply a liar. IF you don't have a First Cause of all Himself Uncaused you have an infinite regress of causes of effects and never getting to the First Cause you never get in reverse logic to what you see today by neccessary result of this infinite regress. The infinity (i.e. NEVER ending of causes creates an insurmountable gap because if its inherent infinity insurmountable gap because if its inherent infinity insurmountable to suffice for the existence of anything you see that exists and has a cause of its existence. There MUST therefore by neccesity exist a FIRST Cause that is Himself Uncaused Who is God. You're welcome
@John Higgs Why do you laugh at truth?
I wanted one of these as a kid! They were the grandparents to the modern Jet Ski!
Back in the day they were sold as GW Invaders. Still as cool today, as 40 years ago.
I do remember these as a kid, wanted one then, wouldn't mind one now. I'm sure you will enjoy it thoroughly👍🏼❗️
That's correct, JetSki came out and killed this quickly. 😑
I would rather have something like this over a jetski.
I will be honest I want a catermain mini-boat.
Put a 50HP Mercury on that transom. Same weight. You could do a prop stand around that whole lake. Boat has potential.
I was thinking 40 would be more than plenty! lol
i agree... a 50hp Mercury would be just perfect lol
this seems so satisfying lol having a boat and can be brought to the lake at any point of time for a relax ride... awsome
Or piston slap
Some lakes have restrictions on HP. Lake Nockamixon state park here in PA has a 20HP limit. Some lakes are only 10HP.
It looks like the Disney speed boats you used to be able to rent, (in the 70s, and 80s) by the hour at their resorts.
My marina neighbor has one of these for sale. He called it a Mickey Mouse boat.
They still had them in 2003 when I went not sure now.
I rented them a few years back
The "Water Mouse" was fun, I have always wanted one with a bigger engine
Exactly. That’s what I have been looking for. Trying to find this exact thing for my kids to learn on.
Imagine this with the transom reinforced and a 50hp Merc on the back. Step dad had one when I was a kid. Scary fast boat.

I had the same boat with a50 merc in the middle 70's, mine was a 1969, a gift from my parents as a teenager to enjoy when we were at the marina on the weekends. Lots of good memories. made by GW Invader in Indiana
We had a couple of them at our cottage in Canada, one with a 50merc and the other a salvaged 35 Chrysler (they should be ashamed) a 3 wheeler, lawn darts, minibike, bike ramps on the end of the dock. surprised any of us survived childhood. Good times.

I would love to have a boat like that again my mom got me one when I was younger now that my mom passed away just about a month ago it brings me back to when I had mine
Go with a 16 foot flat bottom. It would pass this boat.
A couple of suggestions:
-Don’t pull the machine around by the pressure hose or the electric cord,
- tie a zip tie around the trigger handle to keep water flowing through
the pump, it will last longer
I was thinking the same thing about the cord, though a lot has changed in 6 years, I am sure they know that now LOL

100hp on a fuggin 10ft boat????? *Christ*
Not a boat with a motor but a motor with a boat, not sure how safe but its got to be fun!!.
@OIF/OEF-0341 It's a GW Invader. There is no way his buddy ever had a 100hp on one. I know from experience as I've owned 3 of them. I had a 70hp inline 6 tower of power on one of them and had to put it on a 40hp lower unit to reduce weight. They are not particularly fast boats for the size and have flat bottoms so they don't turn well....they slide. Fun, though.
That’s just a lie... That boat wouldn’t float with 100 on it 🤦🏻♂️
The hull on an Invader was only rated for 55 horse max. And it was quite thrilling with that.

Tilt the motor up more especially when you get up on step. Cool boat I’ve liked these mini speedboats for a while
I noticed that too.
I was also going to comment this if You didnt :)
By trimming the motor more out the boat will get higher in the water and speed will increase.
I use to work at a marina on a state park lake in the 80’s and we rented them out. They will fly, even with a little 10hp outboard. They were super fun.

When I have had power trim and used it at full throttle, I have found that most boats go faster when trimmed pretty far out (up). I see that you are doing your speed tests with trim pretty far down, manual in this case but power in another. Try trimming up and see if you get more speed.
I'll guess it flies then ;p
Well mine will just start hopping if it’s trimmed to much.

I would maybe alter the trim a bit. I think it can get much faster than this.
I had the same boat which was most likely from the same mold with full windshield, built by Princecraft in Canada. It had a 1972 Johnson 25hp and I grew up learning to waterski behind it. I also learned a lot about propellers and various pitch and blade configurations. It ran very well and planed out around 25 mph. top speed was around 32mph. Mine was a beige colour with brown seats
That was a great find, I remember my relatives had boats like that but made out of plywood and if you had a 35 hp motor you was the speed demon on the water.
When I was a kid down in Corpus Christi, TX they rented boats just like this and you could run them around the bay down at the T-Heads. It was a lot of fun and watching you with this one sure brought back some good memories of my youth. Have fun with it; I'd like to find one just like it , just for chits and giggles. Good job. I went to buy one of those electric pressure washers but they are out of stock on Amazon...I need a small one just like that. Anyway, enjoyed it, thanks.

I remember renting boats a t the T-Heads, getting fresh Shrimp, and the tour boats guides that would take you around all the boats on the docks lying about their famous owners...lol.
I watched this with some high quality headphones and I've gotta say: that soundtrack starting at 13:29 really kicks a$$
Love that little boat. Had so many with souped up motors going back to the 30's... Real dinosaurs.
One thing... Study up on props, cavitation, and try several different ones. Usually just a cupped big 2 blade is most practical. (Choppers are touchy) Maybe a 3 blade for towing stuff. A good prop guy can adjust the pitch and cup to keep your rpm correct.
You absolutely must replace that plywood jack plate, it will break your old fiberglass hull the way it is. An adjusted set back jack plate with reinforcing runners will really keep things safe and solid. The runners will give you more speed because the bottom won't be flexing with waves.
The comments on here are .isleading. You will easily get 50 mph out of that same 3 cylinder... So many easy tricks. But again focus on safety. Get the prop height and angle correct and add trim tabs at the back for stability at high speed. Use a soft kill vacuum switch in case you hit something... That long shaft motor could really fly up, so dampers too. Sounds like a lot, but the costs are pretty minimal and you focus one at a time.
That’s the G.I. Joe “Devil Fish”. Every kid had one in the 80s.
The Joe boat had twin outboards if I remember correctly
I had a friend back in the 80s or early 90s? that had one of these, we took it down to Bullhead Arizona on the river, drove it at night, no lights that was fun😆
I used to have a similar small boat called a Merlin from the 60's. It had a deep-v hull and when it was on song (with all 18hp) it had a really small footprint on the water and handled amazingly well on a smooth surface. 9'6'' I think it was. Mine also had a carb issue, which in the end I think was the fuel lines rotting out and causing blockages in the carb jets.
I would call this the Red Roaster and I would have it out on the lake every week. Love it!
these boats were ahead of their time definitely want to see these make a comeback for sure

The St. Martin is a splash as well, they all came from the checkmate....St Martin offered 3 versions F-11, F-13, & F-15
I had a 10' EX-EL Blazer with a '62 Merc 45hp. It was a lot of fun.
Yep thats it!!!
I would be wearing some type of life preservers. I guess that’s ok if the lake is 6 ft deep in the middle.
It feels so much faster when you are down at water level like that. Fun!
Best time of day for a little skimmer like that is right at dawn, before all the other boats get out and make it choppy. And sometimes you get totally flat water. Such a joy to carve through.
damn if I ever find one of these on craigslist for next to nothing, I'd love to pick one up. what a neat little boat.
new there like 5k. You should be able to get one for $500 if that's in your budget.
Love that litty boat. Had one 10 years ago got stolen. Love to find one in that shape.
I like the way you explained what you were doing as you did it, I'm not a boat guy at all but found this really enjoyable to watch, thanks!
Congrats American homeboy. A real man is who try fix all his own stuff. Good job buddy
In my experience
far too many people take too long
getting their boats in and out of the water at every ramp I have been too
We're just going to give it a little quick rinse.
Proceeds to review a pressure washer. I'm subbed now. Lol
Goes just as fast pulling a sled larger than it is , and the ENG doesn't sound like its revving out . New prop ??
Probably just needs the trim higher. It looks like its pointing down a bit.
Or just that it's powerful or the shape of the boat, all power, no speed. But don't listen to me I know nothing about boats. That's exactly what I thought. With that engine, it should gooo.
I think I heard it hit the rev-limiter a few times with the tube behind it. Prop that ol' yamahammer up 2-4" of pitch and I bet she will fly...
@@repairandpreservation5649 engine is pointed down still when he gets on plane if he trims it right he’ll get some more speeds
@@benwan5425 Those 30hp Yamaha outboards are typically pushing larger boats than the one in the video. Additionally that particular one does not appear to have power trim. Personally, as far as I can tell from the video I still feel that it could pull more propeller with a tilt pin adjustment and raising it up a hole or two on the transom mounting bolts.
But what do I know....I am just a marine mechanic by trade trained and certified by Yamaha with 20+ years in the business.
And as I was watching I was thinking the high pressure jets were clogged. Because, once upon a time, my high pressure jets were clogged in my 115 Merc. The spark plug gaps weren't smashed shut thought. Even a yr later it's good to see you got it running.
