From My Review - Jean Valjean is magnificently portrayed by the opera singer Alfie Boe. It was widely thought that the 1985 version of Valjean with Colm Wilkinson and his signature song, Bring Him Home, could never, ever be supplanted. That conventional wisdom was obliterated by Alfie Boe’s tour de force in 2010. Boe got a 5-minute standing ovation after he belted out Bring Him Home, with him actually having to break character as the on-stage cast behind him were in tears. Boe’s performance at O2 was the greatest in the history of Les Misérables…bold words indeed.
I agree whole-heartedly
What’s surprised me the most is that he’s mostly a lower tone in vocals, so hearing this was incredible
Difference of opinion for sure. Colm Wilkinson is the GOAT. Periodt. He's 80 now but will always be the best in my heart
I was fortunate to be there…there wasn’t a dry eye in the whole place! The finale with all the Valjeans of the past and present was so moving, but when Alfie changed register it was just sensational…will never forget that night❤.
Nobody sings this like Alfie Boe. It’s a difficult song and the way he sings it is so full of emotion. And that last exquisite note…..
escucha la version de Geronimo Rauch tambien lo hace muy bien de los miserables del 2011 en español se llama salvalo pero tambien hizo una version en ingles
Best Jean Valjean EVER,, had me crying so hard I couldn't breath...
Colm Wilkinson will always have a special place in my in my heart. But he smashed it.
Colm is the king no one will take the crown from him. Boe’s pretty great though.
His reprise at the end with the 3 others was truly special. “The summers die one by one how soon they fly on and on” such a great delivery. But I do find this performance to be a bit too soft and high. When he pushes it just a bit he’s really amazing towards the end. Would be amazing if he could sustain that throughout the whole song.
Not his best performance of "Bring Him Home", but Boe is the best to sing it. I think you meant that you couldn't breathe.
Yes, I couldn't breathe lol... I still tell everyone. But not his best performance? Do I need to Google? 😁 I just loved his voice in the PBS special I saw.
LOL. BREATH BREATHE SO FUNNY

Anyone can sing....but it's when you understand the words, and you feel the words/emotions - that takes a special someone, and this is the result!! Alfie Boe is truly an angel from heaven
Correction: not ANYONE can sing!!
I've heard about Les Miserables since I don't know when, also love the song I Dreamed a Dream, but have never watched the play/movie in full. I've tried to watch the movie, but can't stand the singing so I only manage to watch around 20 minutes or so. But last year I watched the 25th anniversary concert with Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean and I was blown away by the story, the songs, the singing, the emotion. I shed tears countless times...
To bad u did not give the movie a chance. It is terrific. Forget the quality of what is pleasing to your ear as the singing is concerned. The styles fit the situations. The actors are exceptional. They sing as they would say the words for the first time. So, forgive what is not pleasing to your ear and to concentrate on the story. I guarantee, you will love the movie. You just have to let your go your expectations, and just listen. Listening is a lost art today, if it was ever an art, most people think about what they want to say, and are not really listening to who they are talking to. Go find on you tube, behind the scene of making the movie. It gives understanding to the making of the moving. All actors came out of the wood work and wanted to be in this movie. Watch it..Then you will understand. Keep an open mind. Listen. You will learn a lot. This is how we learn.
If you get the chance go see the actual show it's really Incredible. I agree about the movie. They sacrificed a lot of the singing for acting, which makes sense for a move but after having seen the Broadway show it really lost a lot of what makes it special.
Best Jean Valjean ever!
The emotion he brings to this song always brings tears to my eyes.
I got to see him on Broadway when Les Mis was on Broadway. Very likely the best show I've seen
Alfie Boe is my favourite stage Valjean, what a strong, powerful voice he has! 😍♥️
God on high
Hear my prayer
In my need
You have always been there
He is young
He's afraid
Let him rest
Heaven blessed.
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.
He's like the son I might have known
If God had granted me a son.
The summers die
One by one
How soon they fly
On and on
And I am old
And will be gone.
Bring him peace
Bring him joy
He is young
He is only a boy
You can take
You can give
Let him be
Let him live
If I die
Let me die
Let him live
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.
Thank you🎉
Thank you. I picture him singing this because you wrote this. Happy New Year!
Watched the show on tv recently, when Alfie sang this, the whole house stopped and listened. I had tears running down my face, my wife couldn’t speak for the pure joy this song gave us and have kept this track on you tube ever since and listen to this at least once a week and marvel at the sincerity of this man singing such a beautiful song with a feeling that I could never imagine!
It may be that I am the mother of sons, but man this song just pierces my heart! Bravo Angie, I can only imagine what it must be like to hear him live.
Alfie
I have had plenty of times to feel sadness and a lack of certainty. But Alfie Boe brings it all in focus and puts me in touch with a great sense of being.
Best Jean Valjean ever, really!
Colm and Alfie!!! Love both their versions.
Yes both are wonderful. You can see how important it is to Alfie to deliver the emotions and how much he is putting into it. Colm is special too.
An all time favourite that touches the soul and this particular rendition by Alfie Boe tops them all...there is no one better. He obviously puts his heart and soul into this particular "song" from Les Mis. I just plain love it.
Aural gold! This man is possessed of the most gorgeous voice.
Can’t tell you how much this show means to me. But ever since Colm Wilkinson I can’t help but compare. Alfie is by far the closest.
I saw him at the concert in Belfast in September;he was stunning.I still can't decide between him and Colm,I think on that night Alfie edged it
The best performance of the best musical.
My absolute favorite. Alfie Boes is the best ❤
Just saw this on pbs 😮wow he just absolutely kills it on one of my favorite les miz songs
TOTALLY agreed
I am speechless. I am completely healed! Thank you, Alfie.
Moving...Brilliant...Emotional
Beautiful!
Saw the film at the cinema absolutely amazing can't stop listening to the music
Always the best, and again I cry whenever I hear his magnificent, perfect voice😢!!!

La version mas bella que he escuchado de Bring him Home! Bravo Alfie!!!!!
Absolutely breathtaking!!!!!
Phenomenal voice!!!
Alfie Boe is one of the best
Love this, his voice is perfect. Making me cry 😭
I've just seen Les Miserables in Glasgow for the live arena world tour and Alfie played Valjean. I don't know how this man sounds better live than on recording, he has made this song and this role his. I've been wanting to see and hear him as Valjean since getting the DVD of the 25th anniversary and I'm so happy that I finally got the chance. Alfie delivers this song like no one else ❤
Simply beautiful.
Bravo! Bravo!
Incredible talent 🤩
Listening to this I'm always reminded we are more than only bones and blood...
This brings me to tears every time I watch it. ♥️♥️
Colm Wilkinson and Alfie Boe both did a great job as Jean Valjean!!!.
Love this!
It is the most beautiful song in the world
I'm almost singing it on the bus from WESTON SUPER MARE back to Bristol! I can barely hold off from doing so.
When one is sick it helps me to reize that God is with me every moment.
beautiful.
Beautiful!❤
Definitely the best!❤
One of my favorite shows. I've seen it at least five times! Makes me miss the "real" Broadway! (that and pizza)
Why in the world would an editor ruin the breathtakingly beautiful final note of this stunning performance by slapping the TUNE theme button sound right on top of the end of it? 🤨
It's so rude
I have never heard a more beautiful powerful voice than yesterday PBS 25th anniversary of Les Miserablis than Alfie Now. Never heard this name before.
ALFIE BOE. OBE
The best who sang this song
Anyone here in 2024, going on 2025? Literally one month away. I’ve loved Alfie Boe’s portrayal of Jean Valjean since high school
Just bought tickets yesterday
Went Sunday matinee in Mcr to see Alfie B as advertised however it was an understudy playing his role. Very disappointed as no announcement beforehand 😢
I always love the story itself...
Oh my.....❤
Alfie Boe amazing!!
Bring Him Home is my second favourite song from Les Misérables
What’s the first ……. Stars? Not gonna lie it might be stars for me
@@davidabramyk2999 Yeah, Stars is incredible. Have you heard Philip Quast's version? Knocks it out of the park.
@@christopherrichardbass-bar5727 I’d say quast is the definitive javert
@@davidabramyk2999 My favourite is One Day More
Juat beauitiful !!
Awsome❤
Amazing music
Just cut off the applause. Best ever.
What a voice
Allie Boe Rocks
wonderful...but they missed the part where the applause lasts so long that alfie acknowledges the crowd
The performance is obviously top notch but the response from the crowd is one of my favorite parts. They will not let him walk away without acknowledging how good the performance was
He didn't really have a choice other than to acknowledge the crowd because they absolutely were not going to let him go!!❤❤
Top man for me..xx
Best Jean Valjean ever
My vote is still with Josh Grobin💕
🎉🎉🎉
Remember, Hollywood passed over Alfie for Wolverine...
Hollywood needs to get their grubby little paws out of stage musicals
It irritates me to this day, I would love to watch this in the theater instead of them bringing back Hugh Jackman's version next month
He would’ve been a great Wolverine! Wolverine is supposed to be shorter anyways and Hugh is freaking 6’2. Alfie is shorter.
Can you post his performance of Valjean's Soliloquy from the same concert? It's my favorite version of it, and it's nowhere else on RUclips yet.
이런 저런 브링힘홈 듣다가 결국 마지막엔 귀 씻으러 이리로 온다.
2nd best Jean Valjean of all time!!!!
He is excellent but others have done just as good! The song is the magic
Anthony Warlow's version is beautiful
I will only accept John Owen Jones and Alfie Boe.
🐇🌟🐰🐰☀️
I never liked this song until I heard Alfie do it. I can't bear Colm Wilkinsons voice
Are you a fan of the John Owen Jones version? I think he’s the perfect of Colm and Alvie’s performances. Vocally, it’s hard to compare due to how different their voices are. It’s more about preference. These are three outstanding professionals who have their craft down pat. Alfie is imo, the most technically skilled with his background in classical opera (duh), but to me, something is missing from his performance of the song. It sounds stunning, precious, and pained, but it doesn’t quite have the longing that Colm and John bring to the table. Colm I think puts a little too much heart in sometimes but he’s the original so it’s hard not to love him and be bias towards him. I would say that John’s interpretation understands the character best. He sings a soft lullaby prayer, as Alfie does, but here, you feel not just the hurt and the pain, but the final plea as well. In Valjean’s mind, God has done so much already for him that it almost pains him to ask for Marius’ protection too. But he knows he won’t be here forever and accepts that Cosette will need someone else when he is gone. So he makes a desperate final plea to God. You can hear the desperation ooze through John’s performance as the song progresses and then he quickly calms himself to regain composure with his very last humble prayer.
It’s a shame he sings it like an opera singer rather than as a person. Colm wilkinson version has double the emotion
Why would you cut the applause!!!
Amazing music

You have always been there
