If you go to see Les Mis and you do not cry at all, then you have no heart or soul. The writers and musicians and actors are all brilliant. I have seen lthis show at least 10 times
I first saw this in San Francisco. Now I live in France and want to see it in Paris. It will be in French as the story was written by monsieur Victor Hugo. I have the soundtrack in French and English. C'est magnifique!
When my high school did this musical many years ago, we had a packed house all three performances (I was in the ensemble) and from my corner in the wings, I could see people crying at the finale. Those were probably the longest standing ovations I remember.
This cast is by far My Absolute FAVORITE!! The movie cast was exceptional but I grew up with this cast and I just thought everyone did a Stupendous job on their character and their voices are perfection...
Lanaloo216 This is my absolute favorite cast also. My dad had gotten me an anniversary CD set that had a mix from different casts around the world. He thought I would like it better because it was a much more complete version of the show. I begged and begged and he finally got me the CD of this cast that had all the songs, but was missing small things. My dad doesn't like classical or show tunes which are my favorite, but later he sat with me and listened to both versions of a few of my favorite song. He admitted liking my favorite version too, but I didn't try to make him do that again. But for a few hours I had a dad that wasn't just all about sports...
Alfie Boe was too concerned with showing off his voice, rather than allowing his voice to become Valjean. Colm becomes Valjean physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Hanoi Tripper wdym not Salonga? Lmao. She made history as the first Asian woman to win a Tony and the first Asian woman to play Eponine and Fantine... and the first and only person to lend her voice to TWO Disney princesses. She also received the Disney Legend award.
"On this page,I write,my last, confession. Read it well when I, at last, am sleeping.. Its the story, of those, who always loved you. Your mother gave her life for you and gave you to my keeping." Balling, bawling, bawling....no one sings it with such poignancy, tiredness, hope and resignation than Colm Wilkinson. The harmonies of all rip my heart out every time. 10th Anniversary cast. Platinum forever.
Kim, THANK you for giving us those HEART WRENCHING lyrics to read over and over! The beauty of that moment as Valjean’s life draws to a close is just Stunning! 💔🌹
The part where Fantine sings "You raised my child with love" hits me so hard. Cosette wasn't even his child but he loved her endlessly! I just start tearing up
Hi Kahlynn.... im in the same spot. i've been isolated for 5 weeks now, and i spend all my time listening to musicals. i watched jesus christ superstar 4 times last weekend, and phantom of the opera is this weekends release on the YT channel "theshowmustgoon". These musicals are what is keeping me sane in this crazy situation.
The part where Valjean begins harmonizing with Fantine and Eponine is so beautiful it makes me cry every time. And then the ending chord where everyone comes back is the best ending to a musical of all time.
natalie soria I like the end because from this song it goes to do you hear the people sing but with the voices of the deceased students , eponine, enjolras and the rest . After the revolution France did become a free and democratic republic with the motto that is still there - egalite , liberte, fraternite ( equality , liberty , brotherhood )
I love how warm Ruthie's warm and motherly sounds in this song compare to how higher and younger she sounds in "I dreamed a dream". It fits both songs so well.
6:22 - 6:40 is and always will be one of my most favorite moments in music period. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to that chord progression over and over and over again. Ruthie and Lea's voices together are angelic and hypnotizing.
I love the line "on this page I write my last confession, read it well when I at am sleeping. It's a story of those who always loved you...." It moves me so much for some reason
I've always loved how it's only Valjean, Fantine, and Eponine who get to sing "to love another person is to see the face of God." The love that each had for another person in this place to the ends of their lives dying happily at last...
O ja, die drei sind für mich auch absolute Konzentration und Clou dieser wunderbarer Geschichte über lieben können und dürfen.Gottes Liebe verstehen.geben ist seliger als nehmen
The sheer joy and bittersweet lyrics that is "and you will be with God" always gets me, Valjean has been a living saint ever since he chose the road to redemption and he never thought that he would be forgiven; but he did, oh he did, he was forgiven and all of his sufferings and sacrifices will be rewarded, as it should be.
i love this musical. everything is so pure, that you can feel their emotion when they sing. Love the story, love musical and even loved the movie. great musical
And the Book and the movie and all the various TV productions of the Drama of Les Miserables....I have lost count of all the times I have listened and watched it Victor Hugo was a Genius and the musicals do him justice.
There was a youtube ad of a girl learning Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ on a piano in the middle of that famous ‘to love another person is to see the face of God’ phrase, and I have never been so upset in my entire life, at anything, ever.
Graham Williams so do I but sadly she’s the victim of bad parenting and never had a chance because apart from Marius no one shows her genuine kindness or affection .
“Take these children my Lord to thy embrace and show them grace” The entire musical points us to the unmerited grace of God, freely made available to all of us through the death of His son, Jesus Christ. In “Who am I” Valjean sings, “Can I condemn this man to slavery? Pretend I do not feel his agony, this innocent who bears my face, who goes to judgment in my place? “ What better picture of what Jesus has done for all of us? The innocent who went to judgment in our place....
My parents influenced me into enjoying musicals and les miserables was one of them. My parents got me to watch this production and that made me want to watch the real thing. The finale always made me cry and give me goosebumps
I saw this live onstage in London in 1996. At the point where Jean Valjean sings, "on this page, I write my last confession . . ." you heard people all over this huge theater start to quietly sob. I've never forgotten that.
No matter how many times I see Les Mis I always cry at this scene more than any other. I start crying at I dreamed a dream then when Eponine dies, but its this scene that really sets me going
I don't think when people say they want to believe is that they want proof. God being this formless but always present thing is the point. Faith in that it's actually there is the point in believing. We're searching for the faith. I'm searching for it still
So very true. In loving another we reflect the very nature of God. We become Gods nature manifest on Earth. This was our original purpose. This is what we are supposed to be!
Love the Eponine/Fantine harmony!!!!!!!! Take my hand and lead me to salvation. Take my love, for love is ever-lasting. And remember the truth that once was spoken. To love another person, is to see the face of Gd.
My wife and I have seen this incredible musical at least 4 X's. The emotion never abated.... it truly is magnificent......even to the first timers who swore they would not waste the time, nor the money, to witness the production. After inviting several friends to a performance in Atlanta, and a performance in Birmingham, they sat in silent awe and could barely utter a word afterwards. They even offered to pay us back! The DVD we bought is excellent.
I was there, high up in the cheap seats, mostly because I was such a huge fan of Michael Ball at the time and I spent the entire concert just focusing on him. Now so many years later I can appreciate just how fantastic all the cast were and that this was really a once in a lifetime experience.
And 300. And Dumas's original Three Musketeers (+ D'Artagnan), Ten Years After. And the 47 rōnin in the Akō incident (not the movie flop). Hugo knew, even back then, that yanking heartstrings sells. It's universal, across nations and centuries.
Colm is Jean Vajean... the beginning you can just hear the mix of sadness and happiness in his voice. He is letting go of Cosette, but he knows she is happy with Marius ❤
I only got into it last year when I came across the movie whole channel surfing and it absolutely blew my mind. It's much maligned but it opened my eyes to the musical and I was pay anything to see it live
no one could ever, ever dispute that he was more than perfect. which is sad for all those that follow, who are wonderful but no one will ever be our most perfect Colm. much love to him and hope he is safe in these strange times.x
I saw Les miserable for the first time live as part of my sisters 18th birthday in 2010, but I grew up watching this. I love this muscial, my ultimate favourite, Phantom is second favourite
I do understand what you're saying. I just always thought they had Eponine sing that part too because (1) the harmony with her & Fantine is always fantastic (2) the line "to love another person is to see the face of God" Fantine loved her daughter, and Eponine was in love with Marius. Valjean loved Cosette and Marius so now the "first" people to love Cosette and Marius show up to lead him to heaven, and them guiding him is a way of saying thank you for looking after the people they loved.
I remember I saw this for the first time in the late 80's in San Francisco. When Fantine first comes out and that bright white light follows her in that gown. I lost it. Then, by the time Eponine comes out, I was a wreak!! I have seen it four times since then and it never fails. It's one of the scenes that made me want to continue theatre stage lighting.
I listened to Wilkinson sing "Bring Him Home" for the first time a few weeks ago, and since then I've listened to many renditions by many actors in many shows, and Wilkinson is in a class of his own in every part of this play; even in the movie with the Wolverine guy, the only memorable moments for me was him playing the Bishop, and I didn't even know at the time that he had any previous attachment to Les Miserables (the movie was my first interaction with it). It's not that other people can't hit his notes, because they can. But he is the only one I have heard that has a depth and gravitas to make the songs real, genuine, as if they have physical substance and exist in reality. The others are talented, and they hit all the right notes, but they're just singing a song and playing a part. Wilkinson made the songs real in a way I haven't seen any of the other musicians or actors do, no matter how talented.
For those that have been through the experience of a parent dying, this is a very special scene. For those lucky enough not to have experienced that situation yet, watch this and know that one day it will come....if you can do it half as well as they portray this scene you will have done brilliantly!
My dad died last year and every time I hear the part: "You will live, Papa, you're going to live ! It's too soon, too soon to say goodbye!" "Yes, Cosette, forbid me now to die : I'll obey. I will try." I just start bawling my eyes out.
Was lucky enough to see this with Colm Wilkinson and Phillip Quast. Been 10 times since but the first was by far the best. Colm makes me sob every time
I love this song it’s one of my favourite songs from Les Miserables and my favourite bit of this song is when they sing take my hand I’ll lead you to salvation take my love and love is everlasting 🎶
I know the truth of this quote because I befriended someone that was picked on so much that he was murdered. I befriended him and cared for him and was proud to be seen with him when the world shunned him and persecuted him. I will know this truth deeply for the rest of my life
Having seen and listened to this so many times over the years, I wonder if it will ever be bettered. This story is a fairly faithful representation of Hugo's book. I've read the book twice but the stage show is something else; I'm lucky to get past the third song without breaking down. This summer my wife and I are off up to London to listen to Alfie Boe and Michael Ball in the presentation of the the music of Les Mis. I'm so looking forward to it.
I hope it lived up to your expectations. I'd give anything to have seen it live. Alfie Boe's voice is a miracle and Michael Ball is always a treat onstage. I am having trouble imagining him as Javert, though. What did you think?
Have just had the privilege of seeing Les Mis. in Dublin, truly amazing ! Was so glad it was dark in the theatre as there were a number of occasions , I was nearly in tears 😢 given the emotion in the singing.
Many years ago I had the complete privilege to see Colm Wilkinson perform in the Back Water city of Phoenix, there are some things that you must see at least once in your life, like the Stones or even the Ramon's and Colm Wilkinson, a complete privlage.
Dreamt I was singing this at work and now can’t get it out of my head. Just glad it wasn’t I Dreamed a dream because that would be far too self aware 😂
I have seen this on Broadway back in 1997, I have seen it atleast 3 times since at the local college when an off Broadway company toured. This February on my birthday I will be seeing it again!
If you go to see Les Mis and you do not cry at all, then you have no heart or soul. The writers and musicians and actors are all brilliant. I have seen lthis show at least 10 times

There have been other Valjeans but no one can hold a candle to Colm Wilkinson. His brilliance is unmatched.
Alfie Boe gives him a pretty good run for his money.

I just love how ruthie and lea’s voice harmonized towards the end. It complemented each other

I have a question how did this singers make me cry.!😥😥😥 they dont even act but thier souls are uplifting i cant describe..
The cast that made this the finest performance ever past and present IMHO.
Have been very fortunate to have seen performances in many countries. On broadway a lone I’ve seen it over twenty times. The best.
For those that have been through the experience of a parent dying, this is a very special scene. For those lucky enough not to have experienced that situation yet, watch this and know that one day it will come....if you can do it half as well as they portray this scene you will have done brilliantly!
THE FEELS ARE SO REAL RN I just got done seeing this on Broadway and Im kinda re-obsessing if possible
Callie Shepherd ...every time I see this (countless times) or listen to it (countless times a million) is like the first time. Embrace your obsession!
Makes me cry and want NEVER finish the show....... AMAZING... Amazing talent..... UNIQUE.. God bless ! Colm is a fenomen....!
My dad died last year and every time I hear the part:
"You will live, Papa, you're going to live
! It's too soon, too soon to say goodbye!"
"Yes, Cosette, forbid me now to die
: I'll obey. I will try."
I just start bawling my eyes out.
Aw, me too! May his memory be a blessing for you.
Oh my goodness, I absolutely love this song!!!! Les mes is two of my favorite operas!!!! The other one is Phantom of the operas!!!
This is an opera???
Was lucky enough to see this with Colm Wilkinson and Phillip Quast. Been 10 times since but the first was by far the best. Colm makes me sob every time
“Forgive me all my trespasses and take me to your glory.”
El perdón de Dios a todos tus pecados si realmente te arrepientes.
Colm Wilkinson. Aka the most amazing singer to ever live.
Brandon Giltz ...truth!
Absolutely
Yes.. sure.
That is the truth💕👏🙏
I love this song it’s one of my favourite songs from Les Miserables and my favourite bit of this song is when they sing take my hand I’ll lead you to salvation take my love and love is everlasting 🎶
Eleanor Smith
Exactly the same by me - the part you mentioned brings tears to my eyes. So touching.
Olorin yeah it definitely brings me to tears too
If anyone needs an objective evidence of beauty, they need to listen to this, Anyone who doesn't leave without a tear is soulless.
So I am souless
i have no soul :(
I'm actually soulless, guys I'm worried,
I know the truth of this quote because I befriended someone that was picked on so much that he was murdered.
Niagara Cliff: "I am stone, no power can break me."
Time Traveller with a smartphone: 6:22
Niagara Cliff: [becomes Niagara Falls]
The orchestra alone brings tears to your eyes...add the singing and forget about it. 😭
The very best Valjean of them all
Saw this on Broadway in 1997. New York was so clean and beautiful after Rudy Guilanni cleaned it up. Look at it now. Thank God I didn't move there.
I was fortunate to see the London cast three times in New York and it was my first broadway experience still listen to it as I walk
Have just had the privilege of seeing Les Mis. in Dublin, truly amazing !
Was so glad it was dark in the theatre as there were a number of occasions , I was nearly in tears 😢 given the emotion in the singing.
Wow I love this song and it melts my heart anytime I listen to it. Are you a music lover😍?
stunning..absolutely stunning..
Many years ago I had the complete privilege to see Colm Wilkinson perform in the Back Water city of Phoenix, there are some things that you must see at least once in your life, like the Stones or even the Ramon's and Colm Wilkinson, a complete privlage.
Every time is like the first time... brilliance.
I could watch this every day. Phenomenal
Dreamt I was singing this at work and now can’t get it out of my head. Just glad it wasn’t I Dreamed a dream because that would be far too self aware 😂
Brings me to tears every time.
Oh god.... first time listening to this version and I have NEVER heard it like this... I'm shook😥😍
Perfect tempo, perfect artists
Perfection
I have seen this on Broadway back in 1997, I have seen it atleast 3 times since at the local college when an off Broadway company toured. This February on my birthday I will be seeing it again!
I love how deep she sings "you will be with God".
I am absolutly addicted to Les Mis the music and the cast they are by far the best.
