    Love that you started out with my favorite Slayer song. A few others to consider would be "Still I Rise" from Shadows Fall, "Native Blood" from Testament, and pretty much anything from the first few Fates Warning albums, my favorite being "Kyrie Eleison" which was on the River's Edge soundtrack.

    I'm sure I could pull together a list if I took the time, but the one that always pops up in my mind as an underrated riff is the opening one for "Under the Oak" by Candlemass. So meaty and epic!
    Another good one is the thrashy riff after the chorus of "The Chains of Power" by Kataklysm. "Reset" by Metal Church is probably another one that gets overlooked.

      @@peteplaysmusic will admit, when I heard it on the album, I instantly got the lyrics and spent the next hour or two memorizing them. God Hates Us All is such an important album for Slayer, it was almost a reaffirmation of Slayer in a new century, and really a great transition from the 90s.

      I actually had to go back and watch that again because it was so simple but bleepin' catchy. I did not expect that whammy-whack to give that harmonic so much eerie character. I remember enjoying Static-X "I'm the One" (way back before I picked up any guitar) and wondering how they got that uncanny harmonic sound in the riff. My Generation took that idea and whacked it up a notch.

    I've remembered 3 that came to my mind first at this moment
    1) Revocation - Chaos of Forms (that little catchy heavy riff around 53th second wich appears only once in the song, I rewinded it couple of times to relisten. Looks simple but colol and heavy as f..k)
    2) Submersed - To Peace (there's 2 variation of riff at 1-10 and 3-22 of that song, cool melodic groove riff)
    3) Insane little progressive riff of 7-10 seconds long with heaviest sound I can only dream to achieve. Mudvayne -" I Can't Wait" 9th second and 2-12 of the song. Remember this album was one of my favorite (and still is) - very heavy quality sound with amazing progressive groovy riffs here and there ( like the Beyond The Pale riff in second half of the song on that selftitled album, The Hate In Me ob previous The New Game album). But actually there is dozen of insanely underrated stuff in all of their albums.
    And ofcourse a lot of riffs of "Blotted Science - The Machinations Of Dementia" , underrated stuff that blown my mind, none of any other progressive stuff don't come close to Ron Jarzombek's "music for aliens" and have wondered me more, he has reconstructed my brain once and forever. Insanely heavy and progressive stuff that everyone should to listen in their life.

    My very first guitar was a gift from my father who was an amazing guitarist who actually played with a few famous bands. Anyways, my very first guitar was an American standard Stratocaster. Pearl white with tortoise shell pick guard... Im not a huge fender fan, but my favorite guitar right now in my collection is one of my cheaper ones. The Joe Duplantier signature Charvel!!!! That fender you're playing is SOOO F***ING SEXXXY!!!!!!

    I have a suggestion for a video Pete. Why not do a video about some heavy riffs you like that sound like they could be metal but aren't actually from "metal" bands?
    I think that would be pretty cool, bands don't have to be metal to get HEAVY! \m/

    • @peteplaysmusic
      @peteplaysmusic  2 года назад +2

      That might actually be pretty cool, maybe I'll work it into a video sometime. :)

    How does the Meteora play?

    • @peteplaysmusic
      @peteplaysmusic  2 года назад

      At the moment, not well haha. But I'm working on it! It needed a complete setup and the frets are yellow for some reason which you can see in the video. I like it a lot though and it sounds good, it just needs a lot of set up work.

    Abyssal by Fleshgod Apocalypse is so heavy it's stupid, but I don't really hear people talk about the Mafia EP in comparison to Agony, Labyrinth, or Veleno.
