      Dude, are you here to show the match between the two sports or are you here to make excuses for Judo? I hear you making all kinds of excuses for the Judo guy, but yet you never mentioned the advantage that the Judo guy had over the Chinese wrestler because of his larger size. FYI, if you ask those Judo practitioners they say the gi gives them an advantage because it allows them to grip their opponent better, especially when both guys are soaked in sweat. So stop with your crying! Christ, you sounded like a protective wife of the Judo guy because of the fear of witnessing your husband getting beat! You know why so many Judo guys choose to wear their gi in an mma competition? Because they believe it gives them an advantage, so stop your crying! Nobody wants to hear you crying the entire length of the video! Go challenge a Judo guy in a fight if you think his gi is such a disadvantage for him! Maybe you can show us how much of an advantage you would have over them?

    I love Shuai Jiao, its an awsome traditional chinese grappling system. It's very old and is to varying degrees incorporated in many Kung Fu styles. One of the schools I trained at taught both Shuai Jiao and Hung Gar Kuen and I loved it. I think a combination of Sanda (which also has a few elements of it of Shuai Jiao and is essentaily a style/sport that utilizes the fundamental techniques of chinese martial arts) and Shuai Jiao is for self defense and even combat sports like MMA. We have seen a few Sanda fighters. If I'm not mistaken Shuai Jiao is one of the oldest styles of fighting that there is physical record of (I think in the form of paintings)

    Points in Judo are determined by speed, power and technique. If you meet all three in a throw and they land on their back then its a ippon (instant win) no matter which throw you do. If its missing any of those or doesn't land directly on back you may get a half point.
    Also ancient Judo would have been called Jujutsu. If you look at Kosen Judo which came about right before 1900 it is much heavier in newaza, it was a different rules set from the normal judo we think of today. A good example of Kosen Judo would be Kimura Masahiko.
    If anyone is curious the throws he did were Tomoe Nage (circle throw) and Uchi Mata (inner thigh throw).
    Thanks for sharing! Great video.

  • @pierrebattermann3747
    @pierrebattermann3747 4 года назад +63

    The interesting thing here, more than the outfit difference, is the difference in the rule set of the two arts. For shuaijiao, you get points as soon as the opponent touches the mat with something else than his feet. You can see that he was pretty successful with this as in judo, these throws are not worth any points so they are not specialists in defending them (they don't care about being thrown to their knees). In judo however, when you make your opponent fall flat on his back you win the fight (even with a sacrifice throw) It is a oneshot. In shuaijiao, whether you fall on your knees or your back you give your opponent the same amount of points. Therefore, they are not specialists in keeping their balance while being thrown to try to land on something else than your back (since they are loosing the same number of points). Also, shuaijiao have a less good takedown defense since being thrown on your back get the opponent one or two points that you can get back very easily by throwing him again. Shuaijiao matches usually have a lot of action in them because of that. In Judo, the one shot (ippon) rule make them very cautious and you might just see one or zero throw in the entire match (because if you get countered trying, you loose the match directly). Under shuajiao rules, the judo likely would loose as he would get taken down to his feet for example. Under judo rules, the shuaijiao wouldn't stand a chance because he would be reckless trying and get "ipponed". Here, it seems judo rules were applied since they wanted to stop after the ippon. Maybe the shuaijiao guy prottested and this is why they continued. But either way, none of those two arts is supperior to the other, they are hust specialized in their own rulesets

I mean, it’s not like the gi is any benefit to the judoka outside of a few choking techniques or whatever, and not wearing one gives the shuaijao guy a huge advantage. Judo is a martial art that was developed from Jiu-Jitsu in the late 19th century by Jigoro Kano. It was later developed into a more sport-oriented martial art. ... Original Judo had throwing, grappling and even striking. "Jū" can be translated to mean "gentle, soft, supple, flexible, pliable, or yielding". "Jutsu" can be translated to mean "art" or "technique" and represents manipulating the opponent's force against themselves rather than confronting it with one's own force.[1] Jujutsu developed to combat the samurai of feudal Japan as a method for defeating an armed and armored opponent in which one uses no weapon or only a short weapon.[3] Because striking against an armored opponent proved ineffective, practitioners learned that the most efficient methods for neutralizing an enemy took the form of pins, joint locks, and throws. These techniques were developed around the principle of using an attacker's energy against him, rather than directly opposing it. From Wikipedia. I am not an expert just trying to help.

      @@timothyfreeman97 oh boy, the martial arts of east Asia don't have a origin in one place,some styles of SJ have influence from people of the steppe, the ming dynasty adopted Japanese blades and Japanese sword techniques for combat there are at least three surviving manuals that contain Japanese influence some of the few surviving manuals in China like this one www.chineselongsword.com/longsaber for example.
      jujutsu originated in the Muromachi period the oldest school has no connection to China ,only one school claims some connection and that story is BS, the person the school claims devoted his life to poetry, have no martial arts training besides studying boxing when he was 10 for a little bit, that story is also considering striking techniques which were already a thing in jujutsu.

    Really bad ref. At 0:40, there was no break of contact and no ippon scored, so the fight should have moved to ne waza. I guess you could argue that it was still tachi waza since the wrestler (I guess it's the same as Greco-Roman) was still standing, but at 1:55, they're both down, again no point scored (too sloppy even for a waza-ari), and the fight should definitely have been allowed to continue on the ground. At 2:18, the judoka clearly wins the fight via ippon, so it should have been called there.
    I'm not concerned about the gi though. If he didn't want to wear a gi, he didn't have to (since it seems like there's no standard uniform here). He easily won anyway, so I guess it didn't matter.

    “Unfair”, no, Shuai Jiao is simply far better of an art than Judo, it’s the grandfather OF judo, and because it was never “sport-ized”, it retains all the most dangerous and badass throws that were removed for judo. Shuai Jiao is more applicable in the street due to not relying on clothing to throw, but on the body itself. Don’t hate, join team Shuai Jiao.

    Chinese wrestling is much older martial art than judo (6000 years old). Have Chinese wrestling techniques influenced to a modern judo?

      The early evidence for SJ is Qin dynasty that's not 6,000 years ago and no judo came from the jujustu styles Jigoro kanō studied also try to look up a video named "lost techniques of Judo" or something because what most people think of judo is actually it's Olympic form outside that it's a pretty different beast.
