The Last of Us tv show proved that it is possible and still enjoyable to make a tv show based on a videogame while still being very accurate to the game.
If I ever had the courage to make a true RUclips video about how I would've fixed the Halo Tv show, then here's a few things I would've done. Introduce Kwan Ha and her people as civilians living outside of UNSC control. She and her people dicuss some rumors about a few colonies going dark, rebels are joining or teaming up with the UNSC, and said military have created super soldiers. I'd put more in but my whole thing would be as big as a college thesis.

I actully keep forgetting this series exists. It was so boring and forgettable that without all the youtubers reminding me, I would have let this memeory die. And, I think that's somehow worse than if I hated this show and constantly hated it.
That does effectively say something when a show is that forgettable. Since a good movie can be remembered, just as much as a bad one. But a forgettable mediocre film/show? Being forgotten is the worst fate for anything.
ISTG unrelated rant but I am gonna save up as much cash as possible to bribe another Halo anime into existence. It was pure peak. The stories, animation, humor, emotions, hell the amv's too. WHY would they not make another???
WAIT...…That's not what Batman said! (lmao, great work and 100% onboard with ya!) Also, watch Dredd for a great display of how a character can act with a helmet and show more emotion than most who cannot in Hollywood atm.
I reckon they did look at the source material but were simply blinded by its majesty, missing what makes Halo, Halo. I mean while Infinite isn't the greatest story, 343 still managed to make Chief and the other characters real. Brohammer and Chief talking about failure makes Chief feel human in a very solid, respectful way to the character. Excellent breakdown, mate
Remember that the Spartans were a top secret (essentially illegal) program and their operations against the innies as well, the general public was only made aware of their existence after the breakout of the human covenant war, so the innies knowing about the Spartans and thinking the covies are a myth is yet another incongruence in the series.
Fantastic, well put together Video my guy. You've earned a sub. It's a travesty that we waited almost a decade for this show, only for It's creator's to completely neglect an IP that was the star wars of my generation.
I havent seen the show, only snippets of it, but I gotta say, the covenant's design is utter garbage. The elites look nothing like the incredible designs in H2A or H3, and I don't remember a single purple hallway. I can somewhat understand the elites not looking as good, I bet that the H2A elites would be a pain to make in cgi. But man does it hurt to only see the same blue-grey armor on 50 different guys. And why does chief just stand still with no cover while being shot at? He's is definitely capable of running and shooting at the same time, and he certainly knows that he should at the very least hide behind cover and not let his shields drain (still havent seen the show, I could be completely wrong)
Microsoft left too much creative control to 343 and everything they’ve created is derivative. Microsoft game studios never understood the franchise despite being built upon it, Frank O’Connor understood it even less despite working within the original trilogy and now key plot elements have been irreparably changed. 343 commissioned book after book and show after show and it was all derivative fan fiction, then each game after Reach set up a new story only to move on in an unsatisfying manor. The best piece(s) of Halo content beyond the original trilogy, ODST, Reach and Wars were the two live action pieces produced for Reach and 3. That would be the live action Reach trailer and the Landfall short by Blomkampf. The anime arbiter short, the prototype suit, the funimation and the package shorts in the Halo Legends collection weren’t awful but paled in comparison to Blomkampf’s Landfall short. I’d trade a lung for a Halo show similar to the Landfall short. God I hate Halo these days. Halo was my obsession for that first decade of its existence, but it’s just a crappy corporate money grab these days and I hate 343 (and Microsoft) and I hate myself for engaging with the original trilogy leaving me with this seething rage that has replaced my undying love for the franchise. I hope Frank O’Connor finds no success in life going forward. Edit: just want to add we are odst to the list of best halo content, forgot about that one.
When I first watched FuD I couldn’t get past the cheap aesthetic. To me it was glaringly obvious the show was made on a shoestring budget. This was such a naive time for everyone, when it comes to media. We were all so very spoiled. Nolan’s Batman had me riding high and expecting nothing but perfection from everything, always. I had no idea how dark things would get. Now, looking back, I’m a bit ashamed I didn’t give the show more credit. I may have to give her a rewatch one of these days. Oh, and I’d never disgrace my eyes by watching the current show. I knew right away it was going to be as far from a faithful adaptation as is possible. Frankly, I almost didn’t even watch this video because I don’t think the Halo show deserves any attention - even the negative kind. It deserves to vanish and be forgotten, never to be spoken of for all time. But I like your channel so much I figured I’d suck it up just to show my support for my favorite brainless lump. Good stuff!
Not over it but its turn into an ambient malaise. Now i just watch critiques, trying to piece together the aspects of the crime. It has a rich lore. :l
I thought something was different with the jellyfish! Ya changed the tie, idk i liked it the way it was, it looked better without it wrapping around the lump imo
I liked the simplicity of the original design. But too many people confused it for a mouth and black tongue. Following enough feedback I did some test and adjustments and I'm pretty happy with the new look.
I think the influence of the books is what is on display in these shows. While I enjoyed the Greg Bear series of books(RIP), which are proper military scifi (except for a few). The rest of the books are hot garbage melodrama. I also have the sneaking suspicion that today's "modern" writers are too "critical" to write anything that optimistically portrays humanity. Hence, why they downplay the covenant and their Jihad against humanity, which places humanity in the right to defend themselves against an enemy that is actively genociding them, and showing the heroism and bravery of those defending humanity against the darkening void. After all you can't let good story and morality get in the way of a political-quasi-religiously motivated narrative.
Would you count Eric Nylund's stuff as proper sci fi? I quite liked how he set up a lot of the groundwork for the setting in the Fall of Reach and First Strike books.
I was saying this to myself for a long time after watching tons of videos on this series, they not only poorly stole halos....well everything but they didn't even make a good sci fi show, or a good show at all, I could forgive them a little if they told their own story and told it well with some references, sorta like how the sonic movies take characters and other things from the games but tell their own story, but they failed to do even that, it's almost commendable how badly they fucked up, sure lots of people watched it cause it's ya know, halo, one of the biggest franchises out there even separated from the games but as far as I can tell, E.V.E.R.Y.O.N.E hates it, like how the hell do you even manage that?
It actually boggles my mind how these hacks manage to bungle a halo show. Next to star wars, it's the easiest thing to create good content for (even as a cash grab) because all of the work in both cases has already been done. The arrogance that these companies, publishers, actors , writers, developers, and showrunners, approach these well established stories with is staggering. To have such disrespect for the opportunity to create a story situated in either of these worlds shows the contempt that these people have for the material and the people who love it.
Master Chief took his helmet off in episode 1. It's such a simple thing to not do yet they did. As far as I'm concerned there is no reason to watch this show.
as far as iam concerned the tv show and the games made by 343 are all garbage and not cannon, you very right on all your points because iam pissed at how lazy halo infinite is and the tv show
I'm not watching season 2 or anything connected to the "silver timeline". Halo is teetering on the edge of oblivion and everyone involved seems hell bent on pushing it into the abyss.
To me theae streaming services hope you will go on to watch other programmes, i think they misunderstood we would all quit them when they ruin our favourite films/games etc
Can't remember something you never watched. 343i has mishandled this series so badly from day one. You asked if anyone else was over the fact that they couldn't get excited anymore and yeah... been way over that. Haven't been excited for a new Halo project since Halo 4. Passed way beyond anger and am just laughing at 343i's attempts lately.
The problem, or at least one major problem with adapting a shooter like Halo to TV or film is that in passive media like those having 95% of what happens be gunfights isn't really all that fun. It's great in interactive media like video games because *you're* the one controlling it, making dozens of tiny yet important decisions every few seconds. Without that, it loses a lot of the appeal. Not all of it of course, there's still the actual choreography, the background of the fight and how it looks (Halo in particular has some fantastic views and locales for its levels), etc. But a lot of it is lost. And since the games typically have relatively small percentages of them devoted to narrative that doesn't leave a lot for a show to go with. How do you stretch the story of John Halo in Halo 1 into twelve 45 minute episodes, 9 hours, when a decent player can beat the entire game in less than that? I think you either have to accept that it's going to be a shorter miniseries, or a film, and work with that understanding that 9 hours is just too long.... or you make new shit up to fill that time, fill that episode count. Have new things happen, introduce new characters and story beats. Establish a ~new continuity~ so that you can just do whatever you want, thus making fans ask the question of why you didn't just make your own original thing instead of butchering the thing they love. Clearly the people in charge of the Halo television series chose option 2. A real pity.
I just can’t understand how you mess up this badly there has to be writers and producers that actually played the games and had something half decent and canon with a master chef that doesn’t take his helmet off …. How
There was some talk claiming this was supposed to be a mass effect live action story... Then again it is so painfully generic and forced it could be any series. Humans invaded by aliens, but keeps forgetting the aliens to show that humans are awful and diversity always wins... Regardless of time, place, people, situation, logic, or even making sure the enemy trying to murder you all is defeated! Seriously they went out of their way to make master chief kill himself and not kill the literal leaders of the enemy just so a clone of a.clone and clone itself into his mind being based off a crazy lying power hungry lunatic in the hopes the exact memory clone will not become a genocidal AI set out to kill humanity. That is even more crazy than what happened in the freaking games!
I did not watch to the part where MC is digging a hole while Halsey watches. Who tf thought that was something anyone wanted to see in a Halo show? Looks like a crap sci fi like stargate with a halo paint job lol. Lmao even.
I really wanted to like this show and I think after a year there are some things the show got right… ish. Hear me out, the armor of the Spartans and the gear looks good, same with costumes, for the most part. The fight scenes (all 3 or 4 of them…) look and feel like Halo. The show falls flat with its plot and it’s writing as you pointed out, no steaks, plot makes little to no sense. They could fix it if they bothered to listen to the reception from “fans” but so far it sounds like they want to double down with their crap sort of like what Disney has been doing with Star Wars. With season 2 on the horizon they have a chance to fix a lot of the problems people had with season 1 and hey I’ll tune in for the first episodes and give it a shot, what else am I going to do to get my Halo fix? But honestly i feel like the Halo show will die before they even get to Halo
It has the look of Halo, some of the story bits of Halo, but wasn't Halo. Its someone elses crappy sci fi show with a halo coat of paint. And it is so very, very dumb. Prop designers did well though, I'll give them that. Like the best part of the show is in the first episode and then that weird dream sequence where Chief beats Kwan's ass over and over again, because wow she was such a hateable character, and as one of the main cast, thats very bad. If they wanted it modern or whatever, they could have just made a show about Johnson leading up to the start of Halo 1. Johnson as the main character would be fucking great, and theres a number of black dudes who could pull it off. We don't know that story so you have a good amount of free reign over a long time period.
I wasnt surpised in the slightest that master chief removed his helmet. And to be honest - im ok with it. That the reveal came so early just because of this annoying sidekick - that was the point, where i assumed the writers had no interest in halo at all - what made the big reveal kind of bleak and similar to the reaction of "the answer to all questions". For them, halo just served as a vessel to reach a bigger audience. I also dont think that farmes far away and their the lack of unserstanding that there is such thing than the covenant empire is incoherent. You could argue - that they have no clue whats going on, because of the distance and that they cant afford a passage to other planets who are aware of the situation. So all whats left are rumors. History shows what tyranny, fear and brainwashing can lead to...but than work it out better.

Silver timeline master chief is the 13 yo behind the controller, lol
Another thing I can happily ignore completely, but it is kinda entertaining to see just how badly they can fuck it up.
The currents of the youtube algorithm made me drift to your videos, and I've subscribed because I think you make interesting videos.
Welcome aboard, skipper.

@Working_Jellyfish Dude its like your reading my mind and projecting all my criticisms of this show. God Bless you man
God bless you and your work sir 💜💜💜
christian bale would have been a great master chief, and he sorta looks like the way john is described.
"Ultimate timeline for new fans"... So once we again we can say that it wasn't made for us. That's all good, I'll simply not be watching then because it wasn't made for me, I'll stick with the older, good stuff thanks, cheers. All good boss.
I just moved on to warhammer
@@derpherp7432 Yeah, warhammers pretty good, if you haven't tried apathy and self-pity.
@@Peak_AussiemanWhat does that mean?
@@LiterallyAWesternHognose It means I'm not going to consoom the Current Thing.
@@Peak_Aussieman Apathy and self pity is you say you won't consume current thing?
My mum (barely knows about)was disappointed with the halo show, she knew master chief doesn’t take his helmet off. Also was expecting more human covenant action and not sappy drama.
No and i don't want to remember.
New video
Praise the jellyfish 👏👏👏
ISTG unrelated rant but I am gonna save up as much cash as possible to bribe another Halo anime into existence. It was pure peak. The stories, animation, humor, emotions, hell the amv's too.
WHY would they not make another???
WAIT...…That's not what Batman said! (lmao, great work and 100% onboard with ya!) Also, watch Dredd for a great display of how a character can act with a helmet and show more emotion than most who cannot in Hollywood atm.
Karl Urban's a chad and we don't deserve him.
YESSS! Dredd is an awesome and badass movie that highly respects the source material.
I’m ten minutes into this video without a substantive critique beyond “it made fans mad.”
He can always cut out some time. hope he does later videos,
this doesn't take away the rest of the video though.
I hope there's a new renassiance. Halo has been in a loop for >10 years now. This new leadership and the shit state needs to change a lot
Great job
I'm hoping that the IP owners listen to your fair use instead of going full misquoted Arbiter.
"Asshole... You must be silenced."
I'm fully prepared to go to war with Paramount over season 2. 🐙
Welcome aboard, skipper. I agree, fans deserved better.

Gatekeeping is not an inherently bad thing. Keeping out the people that want to destroy it is absolutely justified and fair.
Ode to the Chief...
"Were it so easy"
I havent seen the show, only snippets of it, but I gotta say, the covenant's design is utter garbage. The elites look nothing like the incredible designs in H2A or H3, and I don't remember a single purple hallway. I can somewhat understand the elites not looking as good, I bet that the H2A elites would be a pain to make in cgi. But man does it hurt to only see the same blue-grey armor on 50 different guys.
And why does chief just stand still with no cover while being shot at? He's is definitely capable of running and shooting at the same time, and he certainly knows that he should at the very least hide behind cover and not let his shields drain
(still havent seen the show, I could be completely wrong)
30:35 and.... the Arbiter story?? bro is literally the Halo 2 protagonist
Reclaimers and Forerunners are the same species. I will hear no debate, 343i fanfiction is not cannon.
I just want to say: fuck this multiverse bullshit excuse.
I quite liked how he set up a lot of the groundwork for the setting in the Fall of Reach and First Strike books.
wait jon halo gaems have a story? WOW!
... We still didnt find dustin...
Keep the gate!
5:46 rip that elite
There’s nothing friendly about friendly fire.
13:06 what the FUCK is Susan Pevensie doing in Halo.
Could u do a deconstruction of each episode for season 2, please, and thank you
Good thing the leadership who approved this crap is gone, Kiki Wolfkill, Frank O’Connor and the KK of Halo Bonnie Ross
Pablo no charachter development
Huh?
A real pity.
love your videos, but I can barely hear you
Hmm
Heresy. Treason.
Then again, I'm not defending disney wars either.
I did not watch to the part where MC is digging a hole while Halsey watches.
Who tf thought that was something anyone wanted to see in a Halo show? Looks like a crap sci fi like stargate with a halo paint job lol. Lmao even.
And its not even a decent Star Gate comparison, they at least had decent stakes
"I love HALO."
*shows soulless MCC version of HALO 2 cutscenes*
I thought the work done by Blur studios on Halo 2 anniversary was excellent.
@@workingjellyfish Agreed! They brought a fun re-imagining of those old cutscenes and made them awesome.
I accidentally disliked this. I’m here to apologize before watching your season 2 review 🍻🎉 much love and appreciate the good quality critiques
