The 'bad guys pointing guns at the protagonists and have several seconds where they would logically open fire, BUT don't' is possibly my most hated cliche in any live action anything.
But everyone in this show is an idiot. Especially whomever designed assassin droids which announce themselves, announce they're self destructing, put a long fuse on said destructing and also let their databanks be unfried after they are destroyed.

The only logical defence I've heard for them announcing self destruct is for if allies are around them and need to escape, accept surely the droids would recognise their is none around to save and just blow up? And let's not talk about the nuke they have lmao.

It's sad because he could have been the perfect counter to Anakin and Obi-Wan. They could have made it to where, every time Grievous shows up on screen, you know the good guys are about to lose that episode. Any Jedi he fights either dies or is forced to flee, and any battle he leads, he dominates. Outside of a few instances when he's beaten back after a desperate and cataclysmic battle and escapes just as it looks like he's about to get caught. You know, treat him like the books and comics did and build him up for his ROTS showing. It would make the "ease" of Anakin and Obi-Wan driving him off and Obi-Wan's showdown with him that much more impressive.
They didn't have to make Mace Windu's quote in ROTS a face value fact.

The unfortunate reality is that a competent Grievous or competent villains in general aside from Sideous would have not only undermined Sideous but also made for a poor story. Grievous works in the original clone wars cartoon because it is intentionally edgy and exaggerated, Grievous would not work in the much more light hearted The Clone Wars series

"Witch" was just how the Daughters of Allya described using the Force, as they even thought you had to chant spells to use the Force in the same ways we'd always seen. It was never "generic magic" until Filoni tossed the Canon aside and completely rewrote them.
The Witches and Nightsisters also didn't have any unique skills, and were generally less powerful and skilled than your average Jedi Knight or Sith.
Also, Dathomir was a lush, green jungle planet and the home of rancors. The "Witches" were the regular Force-users that used the Light Side, while the Nightsisters were exiled subsects that used only the Dark Side. Oh, and they were all human, not weird human/Zabrak hybrids. Darth Maul was from Iridonia.

Honestly Thrawn was such a misused character that he was there in name only. After Rebels Thrawn should have made a tepid alliance with Ezra and bring him back to his home world to see it in shambles from the Chiss's enemies which Thrawn would find himself NEEDING Ezra and his emerging Jedi powers to level the playing field while also showing Thrawn as the genius he is, we could also see his limited perspective blind him to the possibility of peace which Ezra would discover and complete his journey to becoming a Jedi by bridging a previously unthinkable peace. That would have been awesome. Instead, we just get Thrawn being a bad guy again when the story and Thrawn himself called for something different.

Nobody is ruining Star Wars or the franchise. They’re ruining their own perspective. Their expectations of everything being the EU and Heir to the Empire has them all in a tizzy, but those weren’t written by George, by George!
They don’t realize everything that happens in the EU could have (loosely) happened before the sequels. They have no idea what Dave has in mind to connect the stories much like *The Clone Wars* did for the prequels.
The sequels follow George’s script loosely. He said LucasFilm won’t use his scripts, (not verbatim) but they did. That was the plan, but they didn’t bring Maul back for a third time and they didn’t use Darth Talon, a tattooed Twi’lek from the comics. They also weren’t going to inundate all the new fans with a deep dive into the Whills and Midichlorians. That can be done after they revive the franchise with new fans. That can be done in James Mangold’s *Dawn of the Jedi* or Prime Jedi movie.
It will all fit together. Have patience.

I began to hate Filoni's vision of Star Wars after how he handled ARC Troopers. In the original lore, they were specially bred to be more independent and hand trained by Jango Fett himself. I never got how they were any different from anyone else in the show when he kept making all the clones some Gi Joe soldier with their own marketable designs and personalities. Yeah, the humanization of the clones was pretty cool, but it clashed so hard with legends. I all but lost it when they introduced the inhibitor chip, being that the legends story was so much more interesting before it.

    • @thespanishinquisition4078
      @thespanishinquisition4078 Год назад +46

Yeah that was pretty much my experience too. I didn't mind the personalities and designs too much, because personalities do indeed change based on environment so the clones likely would have differences there from the training regimes, interactions with other people, different conflicts they took part in, etc. And as for the designs. Well, looking at past wars soldiers sure do love to accessorize.
BUT right from the start he overdid it. Sure the personalities would shift, but they would also have common traits. Sure the designs would change, but not that drastically, they're still in uniform after all.
But yknow... like all the other issues with CW I was willing to overlook it to some degree... and then the Arc troopers became meaningless, specially once non-Arc commandos popped up. But yknow. I was resentful but not too hurt. And then the blasted chips just. They just broke my goodwill. That was it right there. Not only do those blasted chips erase the humanization of the clones, they were just a terrible plot device in every way and a betrayal of prior cannon so astoundingly large I could not keep any hint of hope for Dave's redemption.
I could forgive many, many things. I could even tollerate the space whales... Not the chips. That crossed the red line for me.

How is maul definitive??? Cutting someone half is dangerous if you use a metal blade because they would bleed out but without the bleeding out, no vital organs was affected, I know you love your balls but it's not vital... So if we stop the person from bleeding out, the person would be perfectly fine because their organs weren't affected... Now, what cauterize better than a light saber??? The swing was fast so not enough time to broil something... It's more feasible than a stab...
These brainless people think stabbing someone in the torso with a light saber is more survivable than being cut in half at your waist because one looks bigger than the other because they only think with visuals... A stab to the torso gets something vital, it stays long in the body so the light saber is going to be broiling their insides for much longer and lastly, pulling it out causes even more damage... But they don't see this... They just see that one is bigger than the other without realizing that where maul was cut from won't be any different from being cut in half through your calf with an instant cauterization weapon... @omarbaba9892 In EU, there were 150 orders that clones were supposed to follow without question, to include order 66, and orders to arrest the chancellor should he be deemed unfit for office. Also, the clone wars series seems to romanticize the relationship between the clones and the jedi a bit. Sure, there was a respect between them, but it was also shown that the jedi were incompetent strategists and got a lot of clones killed. There were plenty of clones who hated their generals, and on top of that, from everyone's perspective, the jedi just attempted a coup against the chancellor and the republic. Being a sith wasn't outlawed, and there was no public evidence yet that Palpatine manipulated the clone wars. So there was a lot of good reasons for why the clones would follow order 66.

lets also not forge the world between worlds is not only time travel with an extra step but possibly 2 things far worse than time travel!
... WBW (world between worlds) by filoni's on words is where ALL OF TIME and SPACE connects... with that quote in mind!
all of time would include past, present... and future! which means!
      1) either the future is linear and that means that there is no such thing as free will or choice in the star wars galaxy. everything was predetermined long before you were ever born! meaning lukes willingness to sacrifice himself in order to try and redeem his father is not a sacrifice, for he never had the ability to choose not to do it! anakins redemption is meaningless because he could only ever of gotten redeemed at this very moment! so no free will means there is no stakes or tension, its all fate!
      or
      2) what yoda said and that the future is always in motion and never set in stone means that dave filoni's WBW introduces a star wars multiverse scenario into star wars! because the future is not linear it has countless branching time lines thanks to the wbw being where ALL OF TIME AND SPACE connects! and because the WBW is time travel with extra steps its now also multiverse traveling! and every portal in the WBW can lead to a different time line where another choice was made, or a time line where palpatine was a jedi knight during the purge....
and here is the thing, you can tell from my spelling and grammar that i am NOT a writer, only a humble vicitim of the american public school system... however, i can save ahsoka better than dave filoni can and i came up with this while on the toilet in a QT (a gas station)
when we see in rebels where ahsoka stabs the ground of the temple top downward with both her sabers it starts to crack and separate... instead of creating time travel to save her, have it to when vader does a series of heavy downward attacks the force of his impacts as she struggles to block them causes the now weakened floor to collapse causing ahsoka to fall right before the ancient sith super weapon explodes. the fall leaves ahsoka badly wouneded yet alive and also trapped on malachor until she is able to scout, salvage and repair mauls ship or one of the inquisitors ships to get off the planet or repairs them enough to be able to send out a distress beacon for an eventual rescue by people in range.
the above sets to do 2 things. 1) save ahsoka without breaking the star wars universe and 2) to explain why ahsoka was not around during the tail end of the galactic civil war in a lore friendly way. it is not perfect but it is far better than filoni option

That's the difference. George was a great creative. Sometimes he wasn't a great writer and his best works were often when he had help in that department. That's fine. But he had a clear vision and created a great sandbox for the world of Star Wars.
Dave's writing is generally derivative and extremely low-quality on top of that. It's to the point where even George's worst writing looks masterful when compared to Filoni.
Both are fairly good directors as far as visual go. Ahsoka looked like a great middle ground between the Prequels and OT. But at least George understood his characters and their motivations and the need to portray that even if he struggled at times on screen to get his actors to emote correctly or write less clunky dialogue.
Dave's writing and characters come off as cartoons. Which works for an animated children's show. But not for a live action outing that's supposed to be based in a in universe where people have average to above average IQ. 😂

Technically, George wanted to kill Ashoka for Anakin's build up for his fall to the Dark Side, but her original character prevented her death.

"Yes, a flaw more and more common among the Jedi. Even the old, more experienced ones."
Not to mention how Jedi are trained from infancy to master their fear.
And that's really the sense I get from Dave in regards to him being George's student. To quote Anakin from Legacy: "You know so much. You understand so little."
Also, saying Ahsoka being small would be a boon shows he has no idea how sword fights work. The difference isn't nearly big enough to make her hard to hit, and she's nowhere near agile enough like Yoda to make it somewhat believable. She should have been destroyed by Grievous.

That showed that if nothing else, he was a hack that had no respect for the work of other story-tellers. So I completely ignored TCW and basically anything else he did. He was lionized after TLJ and I can understand why but that Filoni has NEVER respected even Lucas' own continuity. He brought back characters that George himself killed in AOTC. That's apostasy in the highest degree as far as I'm concerned. You simply don't try and override G canon. If George said it happened. It happened. Eeth Koth, Maul, etc.

I mean the clone wars. Literally called the clone wars. Sidelines every single clone we as fans knew and loved. To promote new clones we knew nothing about. Prime example. Commander bacara. Remember that unique clone that executed potatoe head? Ki adi? They literally replaced him for jet? Why??? You could have seen the freaking marines!! What about neyo? Bly? Gree? Appo? Cody even! Even Cody is terrible. He's sidelined to say nearly nothing and be there for lip service instead of telling his story. Another example is bad batch. Who wanted a rag tag band of moron commandos? EVERYONE WANTS DELTA SQUAD. But no. He inserted his fanatic chars in and made a series about a bunch of mentally and physically disabled morons. The only decent thing I can say is I guess the clone wars did the jedi decently. But they felt too nice to me.

I may disagree on the specifics but agree 100% on the sentiment. The funny part is, I remember back when people hated Filoni. I mean back during S1 of Clone Wars, before KK destroyed SW cannon. Filoni was the biggest lore destroyer around and so many SW forums called him out repeatedly.
But now KK blew everything up suddently people treat him like he's the bloody savior. Which, to use SW as an alegory, is like praising Count Dooku for fighting against Palpatine! Just because we have a common enemy doesn't mean he's in any way right.
I don't hate Filoni that much. Even like CW despite being painfully aware of the lore mistreatment. But even at his best, he NEEDED reeling in. Needed to be put on a leash so he wouldn't mess up the lore. Much like Lucas, actually. We've all seen what happened when he escaped his leash. Jar Jar happened!
Instead people started acting like he could do no wrong, when he's a very flawed writer at best.
I'm still mad he gave the clones chips and made them slaves. To see a story about the clone perspective on order 66, and how they deal with the fact they were next on the chopping block as Palpatine would indeed eventually attack kamino and hunt them down too. To see the indoctrination fall bit by bit as they come to realize what they've done and where this is going. That would have been actually amazing. Instead we got braindead mindslaves that get slaughtered regularly by the couple defective clones that were never on board, pure good vs evil narrative with 0 nuance at the fact they're literally butchering their own kin.
That has to be the biggest waste of potential in the entire saga. And "wasted potential" may as well be SW's subtitle.

The fact that they didn't redraw the mural and actually tried to wring pathos out of the unfathomably goofy image of the animated Clone Wars cast plastered on a wall in a style totally divorced from any depiction of art in Star Wars really drove home the realization that this series has the depth and complexity of a McDonalds Play Place. The storytelling went from "rote Hero's Journey" to "toy commercial with literally no plot," and the weird thing is how few SW fans seem to notice the difference. The OG Star Wars series survived despite its stupidity, not because of it. The original trilogy (particularly a New Hope) kept you on this emotional knife edge where things were "fun" because they were intense, not because they were silly. Chewbacca threatening to rip off arms: fun because intense. The scene where C3P0 think he's hearing the cast screaming as they are crushed to death but in reality they are whooping with relief: fun because intense. The scene where Luke finds himself fighting a moon-sized battle station as his fellow rebels die horribly all around him: fucking incredible because intense.
The funny thing is, you can see that Filoni and the other writers understand this on some level, because they try to make every single encounter between characters this legendary event replete with high drama and cool poses and dramatic samurai fight scenes. And it doesn't work because you start to realize there are no normal people left. It's just this galaxy where EVERYONE is special. We got to see Luke Skywalker in his down time, making a fool of himself, revealing that at the end of the day he was a normal guy who had decided to do something important with his life. It wasn't just that he was "special," and that purely existing meant that he would naturally interact with all the important people and do all the important things. In some part, Star Wars was about this idea that you can live every day of your life without making a difference, or that you can spend every day until you die fighting for what you believe in, but first you must believe in something. Luke's a good protagonist because he understands the importance of the things he's doing, and because the option to fuck off and make it everyone else's problem is always presented to him as an option. He DECIDES to do things. He could have rebuilt his home, buried his aunt and uncle, and spend the rest of his days with the dim awareness that life was unfair and wondering if he could have done more, KNOWING he could. But he doesn't do that. He goes on a journey right in front of our eyes. He is vulnerable in a way no other character ever is because he believes in goodness, and that belief stands the test. He learns that there in good in him, and in the awful, cruel galaxy he calls home, and in many of the strange, alien creatures that seem so threatening at first. He makes sacrifices, he learns, and decides. And his decisions inspires others.
Luke's journey was never just his own, because he understood that being a good person means more than fighting bad people, it means loving them. He saves Han's life by giving him an ideal beyond survival. After an evident lifetime of deceit and fear, Han finally sees someone doing the right thing, someone who earns his begrudging trust and respect, someone who sees the good in everything, even him. Han's soul is redeemed, and he saves the entire rebellion. Luke doesn't fight Vader but he doesn't run away, that's his decision. He body-blocks the concept of destiny as it has been presented to him. He's there to stop a fight, not finish one. Giving in to the Dark Side was this tangible threat because Luke started the series going with the flow in a universe that needed people fighting for it, and because you knew his dad had done the same thing back when the Jedi were something he'd dedicated his whole life to. There were threats to Luke's character because he had one. He had a bad side, he had an impatient side, he had a side that told him he knew best. And those were FLAWS, because the writers allowed them to be.
Making Star Wars this safe place where everyone looks like they just stepped out of a salon and wields some legendary blade and was trained by robot ninjas makes it fucking SHIT. I liked Star Wars when it felt like a glimpse into a different world that could conceivably exist, not into the imagination of a 13-year old DragonBall fan

The main problem with modern Star Wars "fans" is this: The majority of them have never seen episode 4-6. I guarantee they haven't. They understand the story very glibly, and see the original films as "old", and only held up due to nostalgia. This has allowed Disney to simply do as they please because the current crop of Star Wars viewer has no attachment to the story to begin with because all they care about are the cartoons, Clone Wars and the prequels.

Yet as a kid, when the prequels were coming out I thought the prequels were much cooler. The theme and the world was more: richer in a way. I found the story of the prequels far better, I even used to like Jar Jar.
It was as a teen, when I rewatched the OT, that I truly appreciated the story, because I understood it more. It was then, that I liked and noticed the far superior acting present in the OT. It was in retrospect, that I found Jar Jar as an okay character, rather than a good one.
The PT is better on the surface, the OT is better if you take time to immerse yourself in it and have the ability to understand it. The world advances faster, because of this entertainment is also faster. Everything is faster, because it is preceived as fast=effective. In reality speed burns out over time, and what is quickly earned will last not long. This instant gratification culture will come at a huge cost... It's like in history, when the Axis quickly conquered Western Europe, but then attacked the Soviet Union and could not deal a knock out punch fast enough. The war machine stalled, and the Axis found itself in a war attrition which it could not afford. I fear the same fate awaits the West. It will find itself stuck in a conflict it did not prepare for and one it cannot adopt to.
At least Mickey Mouse certainly is in such a conflict, but I believe they are not out there anymore for profit, but for brainwashing, thus whether they make money or not matters little at this point. They can go bankrupt, it will not change a thing.

I think that while there's plenty to say about Filoni, one significant mistake people are making these days imo is assume that he has all the creative control that Lucas once did.
Lucasfilm is no longer one man's vision, it's just another small part of Disney. To blame him for all the problems, as if he didn't have to answer to execs at both Disney and Lucasfilm (including KK and her wonderful vision for Star Wars) is seriously misunderstanding the situation.
Ultimately whether he's good or bad, he's a small part of the equation. Star Wars is just one more piece of mass produced garbage that Disney is putting out, that's why it sucks.

One of the reasons why I as a DM never liked setting my D&D games in existing settings, is because I had to learn too much about said setting. They had "rules" which I didn't want to be constrained by.
At the same time, this is why you need Lore custodians, who can assist a writer and director into making a story that works within the setting.
I know for instance Warhammer novels tend to give certain chapters to a writer. Sort of making that writer partly the custodian for that chapter of space marines. Which is a great idea, since it limits the number of rules each person needs to learn at any given time

Gundam did something pretty interesting, there is the original continuity, Universal Century, and then several Alternate Universes with completely different continuities (Thunderbolt is AU UC but you get the point). This means you get different stories, structured a set of defining Gundam motifs, with specs, skills, technology and the like that differ considerably across the board.
This allows for the franchise to be full of allusions to other entries- a bit all over- while reworking some threads across these as well, while taking what works and dropping what doesn’t.
And this does not always work. At times, titles strive too hard to incorporate Gundam motifs even when they make very little sense, other times they deviate a lot and one wonders if they are not just “Gundam” because there’s a mecha by that name the main focus.
But it allowed the franchise, uneven as it is, to be revived even when it bombs very hard.

But even several years back, with Rebels essentially retconning her death, I became concerned about her continued presence in the franchise. I even began to argue that she should have died at Twilight of the Apprentice, but was somewhat hopeful that maybe, just maybe, she could find new footing.
Now, after this show, I have fully accepted that yes, she should've died in Rebels. And it's just for the simple reason that if she had, they wouldn't have had this opportunity to ruin her. Sometimes it is better that your old heroes and stories are laid to rest, otherwise they'll be paraded out like circus freaks.

Another possibility is to take different era entirely or big time difference so at best there would be only mentions of old characters, simply to establish the connection. Again KOTOR and SWTOR, its something like 300 years between them, so we got some fan service things, but mostly connections are thin and again SWTOR got 8 pretty interesting stories for 8 classes.
Most importantly - KOTOR and SWTOR shows that you dont need Vader, Luke, Kenobi, Yoda, Rebels, Resistance and so on to write a good SW story.

Felonis writing in Ashoka is some of the most pathetically contrived I've ever seen. At times stuff happened because the script said so. The most egregious example of this was when star destroyer turbolasers MISSED 3 space dogs at point blank range....because the script said so. Terrible.

Asoka is a character who reached a logical endpoint in the original Clone Wars run. She had a nice epilogue in the Disney+ season. Every other appearance of her including in her own show is superfluous.

dont forget they turned sabine into a villain because she was willing to sacrifice the entire galaxy to reunite with her quasi friend she sees as a brother out of nowhere?
or when baylen talks about how ahsoka was the reasons sabine wasnt helping during the mandolore purge and yet sabine has little to no issues with ahsoka over the fact that if she was involved sabine could of likely saved her parents from dying lol... she should be furious with ahsoka and border line hates her for not letting her go.
how did ahsoka keep sabine from going to help her famile from the purge of mandalore? and why did sabine let her stop her?!?
lets also not forge the world between worlds is not only time travel with an extra step but possibly 2 things far worse than time travel!

Considering Sabine’s actions, I fail to see how she would Ezra as a “brother”. Obviously, she’s clearly in love with that guy if she was able to do something crazy like this at this magnitude.

@@coletrain583 in case you did not actually watch the show rebels (ahsoka is a sequel/continuation of the show rebels...)
sabine had zero romantic interest in ezra and often saw him as her annoying yet sweet younger brother.... in the show erza had the hots for HER but SHE did not share the same feelings in any way, shape, or form.
in ahsoka her choice is a moronic and retarded one, the character would have never made that choice based on her history and her character.... this is filoni not understanding HIS OWN CHARACTERS yet again...

Dave Filoni need to reflect on the errors he made in Ahsoka and realize, that even George Lucas required help in making his universe
Like you said, him and Jon can be the successors of George together, but apart it won’t work

The Ahsoka show does prove that Filoni is at his absolute limit.
