    I see how beneficial it is to keep vassals from owning all their duchy land at the cost of them being unhappy with roughly -25 per piece of land that they want (Idk if its different per character). Ive Also heard that when your selecting vassals its good to choose one with specific traits like craven or trusting over ambitious and deceitful and then look for vassals with high steward or high martial or both and give them all their duchy land so they r happy and the personality traits should keep them more in line from revolting.
    What I'm seeing is it can be good for both if u really want to keep ur vassals in check or if ur stuck taking someone else as a vassal then its more beneficial to keep them from getting strong

Can you please explain the warning "vassal is loyal to title/duchy/kingdom, not ruler (you)" red pop up in the suggestions bar? How do we correct this exactly? I ran into this as the King of Spain and I believe the vassal was from my brothers former kingdom, which i had taken over. Not sure if it was because I hadn't yet created the proper title or not...

    the best option is to keep it on the family. If your powerful vassals are your family members, its highly likely they won't have a bad opinion of you, in fact, they may already be capped at +100 since you probably gave them the duchy and the county.
    Of course the key here is getting High Crown Authority, to prevent family feuds and internal war. The bonus you get from them being family members, plus focusing on the Kin Dynasty Tree, means even with High Crown Authority they won't have negative option of you.
    At most they will form their own Cadet Branch, but generally that's not a problem. In fact this is an incentive to expanding, become an Empire and give them a Kingdom.

    • @LordForwind

    And then marrying the vassals or champions with my daughters with the marriages lineage to the women to keep them my lineage going.

    So is it wise to give dukes counties in other duchies exclusively, and then give them the dukedom of a different duchy. Or should you give them one county in the duchy, and then any other counties outside the duchy? I understand keeping your vassals weak, but I find that if they are too weak, they tend to lose the duchy to their counts and then one of their counts ends up with too much power xD.
    Also, do you recommend distributing duchy titles to relatives (cousins etc..) outside of dealing with partition succession, or is it better to keep them as counts? I tend to have trouble managing really large empires, and end up having to fight several succession wars whenever a new king / emperor takes over just to hold the land.

    • @LordForwind
      @LordForwind  2 года назад +1

      Giving title to non-sucession family is a good idea. I tend to give the dukedom to the strongest count to try and stop that. A 1 province duke tends to lose the title to another 1 title count, but usually they dont take the county and become a 2 title duke, which means they are manageable.

    • @LordForwind

    Or you can just destroy all duchies and manage them all by yourself. Also even if they conquer some lands, they'll lose it if they have some than 1 inheritable son/daughter. The disadvantage is sometimes your vassals are lucky bastards and they have only 1 hair and when they conquer too many land they start providing you some problems like fractions.

      @@LordForwind got it. Now aside from obviously rich territory or your starting territories, what do you think is best to aim for in terms of the direct domain holdings you should try to have? Should you try to fit your holdings in with the duchies you're holdings? I know you suffer opinion penalties for controlling counties in other people's duchies, even if they're vassals, but would it be better to take personal control of counties you grab out on your frontier to build them up? Actually, is it wise to pay for construction in vassal counties?, or is that a shoddy return on investment? Sorry, that's a lot of questions, but you seem to have a good handle on this, and while I think I'm doing pretty good, I wanna get into more efficient habits

    • @LordForwind
      @LordForwind  3 года назад +3

      okay, so you want to find a good large duchy, 3+ counties, like East Saxe where London is, then you want to find the county with the most baronies in it and build castles on them after a church and city. All holding should be in you capital duchy if possible. Focus on developing a core duchy and ignore any outskirt lands. Dont build up vassals unless they are making no money to build up their own lands, or you have tons of cash like 5k+. I dont mind the questions at all, I do have discord if you want to ask me questions there. Link is on my channel page, I think it still works

    1) I give the Duke a vassal who owns lands outside his dutchy? Wouldn't this upset the Duke of the dutchy that county is "supposed" to belong in? Also wouldn't I get penalized for this?

    actually it's not the best strategy perse to keep the vassals weak because this means you end up with a lot of vassals that all need managing. and all of them feel they earn a spot in the council too, i do start out this way, but later in the game i will have to give dutchie titles away, the way i do it, i will give the dutchy title and 1 county to the duke, the rest of the counties and if possible some holdings of the duke's county to other vassals, i also make sure the duke has no counties in other dutchies, this way the weaker vassals keep the dukes in check, i only have to manage the dukes basically and they manage the other vassals, otherwise you'll end up managing way to much vassals who all want a place in the council. but still successions can be hard to deal with.

    • @LordForwind

    It's not really on the topic , but i don't get one thing: My character died, had 3 sons. Other two turned on me, leaving me with no county (they usurped stuff and revoked my title on county). Then i saw Game Over screen. So what is the point in making your close family vasals or distributing land to them, if it's a game over even if game could easyly switch me to another family member. My point is - it doesn't matter that you had 6 sons - and you thought you are safe. You controll one of them after yours character die, and if other sons screw you over - you are done. That's a bit anoying - imo you should be able to switch to one of your brothers or something, if they revoke your land, and only if there are no alive people of your blood/family tree, than it should be game over.

    Africa.... well atm I'm an empire vassals are funny an they always have civil wars, if the vassal is to weak the others will dominate them .
    I had one vassal get kicked from 3 different places I put him then I realized they also need martial as well as steward to hold their own.
    I keep a wife two yrs two kids an marry again. I keep 3 to four lovers so I constantly have a good flow vassals flowing after 15 yrs .
    Prowess is the key 🔑 so you may wont to take an old reliable vassal/champion marry him or her to your children, grandchildren so the land is always in the family . Once your over 50 vassals it becomes impossible to keep all happy , even through befriend, seduce ,sway not enough.
    You kinda want to wait till your vassal limit making sure you place someone you wish to rule the duchie in each one . Create the Duchie/High chief the others vassals opinion should all change from negative to positive.
    Just things I've learned

    • @LordForwind
      @LordForwind  10 месяцев назад +1

      The danger with going to vassal limit before creating duchies is that factions can grow and form against you easier. If you only have 7 dukes each ruling 2-4 vassals, it's much easier to keep them happy, than keep 30 counts happy.
      Also you have reduced taxes without the duchies most times.

    I’m sorry but I think you missed the chisiest and most fun ways to manage wassals, the first one, if you are an emperore, do not have duchy level vassals, give away entire kingdom or even 2 or 3 kingdom at the time, this will make the single vassal more powerfull, but way less powerfull than the 3 kingdom separetly, in my expirience by a half. The second one, witch assure you way less revolt, is to give away kindom like chunk of lend, to a duke, so he is going to have 40 or 60 count under him, with are going to bee in costant revolt, so you do not need to worry about that vassal at all, so potentialy, if you use this second strat to all your vassals, your vassals are never GONA BEE ABLE to rebel against you, becouse they have to deal with their own revolts.

    • @LordForwind
      @LordForwind  Месяц назад +1

      Those strats are not good ones.
      Kings get a huge bonus to income and desire for independence. I just did a restore the Roman empire run and only had 3 revolts towards the end and it was only Kings, never had a duke join a faction except at the start for about 10 years. The last thing you want is a duke to own more than 2-3 provinces under them, a 30-40 province duke will create issues and usually form a kingdom under you and then will constantly try to revolt.
