Exactly the info I needed. The rewinder wouldn't work on my trash picked motor even after hours of tinkering. I compared my motor to a good one and realized my starter clutch turned too stiffly over the crankshaft and the rewind spring wasn't strong enough to overcome that. Wiped it out and applied a light coat of hi temp grease on the shaft, but left the ball bearings clean and dry so they can bounce around the right way. Your video confirmed I did the right thing and can put it back together. Thanks.

Simplicity 5hp tiller from the '80's. Bought new and it's a beast. Forged tines. Thanks for the video. I didn't know how it was fastened. Came off with penetrating oil, a bar between the fins, and large channel locks. The ratchet rotor in the old one was worn allowing the ball bearings to fall out of place. I put some anti-seize on the new one.

It looks like a rugged tiller. Good to see it being repaired. Of course, having the right tools makes the job successful. Thanks J K

Nice job Jeff: I had a customer try to give me a box full of engine parts to put back together and I had to finally refuse to do it because so many parts were missing. Told him it would be cheaper to get another engine. Thanks for the video.

dear jeff there is a wide slot built into the flywheel you put a 6 or 8 inch cresent handel into this slot to undo the starter clutch by turning the slot with the cresent handel going down onto the solid part of the motor then undo the clutch with your impact drill the cresent handel holds the steel fly wheel

Dont put pipe wrench on out side on pulley, take spark plug out an feed some rope in cylinder so piston wont rotate, you can tighten or loosen of crank shaft

Thank you for the video! I did this on our chipper with a similar B&S engine, but when I pull to start, I notice it sucks thru the exhaust and blows thru the carb. Where may I have gone wrong?

Don't need a special tool. Pipe wrench or very VERY large Channel locks. To lock the crank, take a piece of old clothesline and wrap it around the SOLID portion of the flywheel a couple turn making sure to over lap at least once. Tie the othe end off the the handle.
