  • These are a couple of troy bilt tillers I am working on, one wasn't too much of a job, just had a missing rewind clutch apart and the starter spring and rope messed up, a dirty carburetor and need a fuel line, it was bought at an auction so one can expect to have some problems a lot of the time, this one is probably somewhere in the 1980's. The other one is older by probably 10 years and it has a more serious problem, the rod was thrown and the crankshaft is messed up. it is fixable but might be pretty expensive. Honestly those are good machines but I find them very taxing to use at least for me, I like the one that's on the back of my garden tractor where I can sit down and till my garden.

Watching this video helped me figure out how to recoil my tiller's pull starter after it came apart. Thanks!

Thanks - I have a troy bilt with the Kohler engine; my rider mower has the Briggs & Stratton - so now I know how to repair both units - nice job.

Thanks much for the video. The bit at the end about the mad banshee war whoop is exactly why I came here. Good to know i might be able to just lube that up and carry on. Going to give that a try now. Would be nice if i could get to that lube point without pulling the entire cover.

that's one unhandy thing about the way B&S has their starter clutch, it works great but does sometimes get rusty or gunked up and it makes a bad scream and can throw the rope out and mess up the spring,, thanks for commenting.

The guy that owned the tiller elected to repair the original engine, I told him one of those Harbor Freight ones would be fine, but he spent over 300.00 to rebuild the one that was on his tiller. thanks for asking,

Could you or anyone tell me exactly what year was that 8hp troy bilt tiller was made. I have that same tiller but I can't get parts for it. Because there is no serial number.

are you needing parts for the engine or the tiller it's self?

Can you tell me what the bolts are for that honda clone (predator 212cc?) - Thanks for the video.

Honestly I don't know, I would guess they are metric but not sure if made for the US market.

Thanks OT... I found it - for anyone else out there CRANKSHAFT PREDATOR 212CC = 5/16" 24 TPI (NOT metric, made for US market). 5-16/24 thread
That's a fine threading (not the standard coarse, 18 TPI).
