    wow this did me wonders, the motor I was working with was a lot newer than this one early-mid 90s, and the fly wheel along with the ratchet bearing was VERY rusted and doing all the things you said made it come back around somehow. Thanks for the help. And I didn’t even use atf cause my workshop is a mess so I just used power steering fluid and it still worked

    I'll go try this right now on my gold dredge.

      I cleaned the parts and lubed the shaft. Noise is gone.

    Hello, You are missing a thin plastic washer that fits in before the ball bearings. A thin oil like 3 in one is recommended to lube the clutch.

    Dude, 120 grit? It’s a machined surface. Almost always, worst case there might be a little surface rust. 3M crocus cloth 1000 or 1500 grit with little oil is what’s called for. If you have to repeat this after just two years it’s probably because the scratches you’ve made give moisture a toehold, leading to accumulating rust. Just my two cents.

    MY PULL STARTER HAS A HARD TIME CATCHING, locking to the shaft, any ideas for me.

    do you have to remove the spark plug before twisting the clutch?

    I doubt sanding is actually necessary unless it's got rust on it... One of the reasons it is squealing is because of the tolerance between the shaft and the clutch has worn and it is vibrating along that small gap. Sanding can wear it down further, possibly making the problem worse over time *(though probably not within the lifetime of the engine). Just something to think about. The lube is important though!

    I need the recoil pack. Do you know the part number, thanks?

    Mine squealed then proceeded to unloop several loops of pull rope.PIA.

      Lol, mine actually shot the rope out with such force I got hit with the handle

    So, basically it just needed to be lubed up? Do they come lubed up?

      Can I use sae 20 oil?

    • @simplybeanjelly
      @simplybeanjelly 2 года назад

      @@mranderson5668 Yep. 3 in 1 is good for this kind of stuff, but you could probably get away with using regular motor oil no problem.

    See that little hole on the top? That's for putting 30w oil in the clutch. No reason to tear it all apart. You should have known.

      Good to know! But I do think that doing a bit of maintenance and cleaning the parts doesn't do any harm either ;)

      That doesnt always stop the noise. Sometimes it still needs to be taken apart. I tried that.

    It’s not called a ratchet clutch it’s called a starter clutch you don’t want to use transmission fluid either WD-40 is it someone needs to show you how to clean them is an ATL is the wrong thing I’ve been doing this for 58 years

    • @simplybeanjelly
      @simplybeanjelly 2 года назад +3

      WD-40 is not a lubricant and will not last. ATF should be fine, but may attract dirt. Ideally 3 in 1 is the best thing for this kind of an application.
