For non-ladder characters only normal quality can be upgraded to exceptional quality, but if you're playing on ladder you may also upgrade exceptional items to elite. In almost every ladder season many of these items (found in nightmare difficulty) are sold for as little as a few perfect gems, if you ask around in trade. Upgrading exceptional to elites requires only mid-level runes that frequently drop from the hell difficulty soulstone quest. For example: Que-Hegan's Wisdom, a very powerful mage plate, can become an archon plate. This boosts the base (unmodified) 225-261 defense to 410-512. A good roll on a high defense percent QHWisdom will grant over 1200 defense. Note that the items requirements increase accordingly and so the new item would require a character have 103 strength and be level 63. For the cost of a single Pul rune (and a few other trivial runes), you have an armor that stands toe-to-toe with the likes of Enigma, and Chains of Honor, to help get you going in the mid game to early parts of end game. Do note that any etheral bonus is lost when doing this even though the etherial status is not. It's a glitch in the code that can't be fixed based on how etherial bonuses are applied. This allows you a great deal of freedom in getting gear, on many different types of characters. Your magic find character's Stealskull Casque over doubles in defense (to nearly 500) when upgraded in this way. Tarnhelm increases too, but not nearly so much due it's lack of % def (but has +1 all skills to make up for it). A high percent Goldstrike Arch will completely destroy a windforce in DPS, and an upgraded witchwild string is a terrifying thing to behold with it's up to 99% critical strike chance. Going from a short siege bow to a diamond bow provides a huge boost in power, but more importantly the damage range is tighter than other bows. (33-40 with 36 average compared to hydra bow's 10-68 with 39 average). Additionally, when upgrading belts the number of slots they hold is also increased to the base item's new amount. This means String of Ears, and Snowclash, both gain an entire row of potion slots (in addition to the huge defense bonus). Similarly, Goldwrap can be upgraded twice for the same effect on your magic find characters. Barbarian mace mastery applies to more than just maces: it also applies to staves, wands, and scepters. The Insight staff (with it's amazon Critical Strike out-of-class skill) or Ribcracker (with it's speed, damage, and crushing blow) are just two truly terrifying examples of outside the box thinking the class affords players. Hirelings can easily get crushing blow to 100% making most things trivial to kill, on any difficulty, regardless of how well geared the main player is. Lastly, there are two types of damage reduction in game: Percent Damage reduction (Shaftstop) and flat damage reduction (Gladiator's Bane). Having a mix of both will greatly improve your suitability in any situation. Flat damage reduction applies after percent damage reduction, and does not have a hard cap the way percent damage reduction does (50% IIRC).
This is awesome for characters that require highest base stats but only unique worth upgrading to elite base class is bonesnap maul imo. Others are pretty useless to upgrade i guess.

Of course it is a good armor for a noob player like me (i quit 6 years ago) but there are so much better ones. Especially when you mention insight - not that it is that hard to make, but players who make&use insight regularly certainly do not mess around with Goldstrike Arch. I would, 'cause it's fun, but so is a drummer barb. Those went away with nerfing cs because of...whining?

Whenever I play in Windowed mode and I click on any other window (Because I like to play multiple games at the same time) D2 force minimizes. I gave up searching sometime ago, and upon seeing this I though I might ask the question. Or does anybody else have this issue?
Clifford Merielle This happened to me when I was somehow incorrectly patched. Did you happen to be on a private server then switch back to battlenet? Try a fresh install and see if that helps.
Sadly I can't do a fresh install anymore I've lost Discs 1 & 2. I was only able to recover the game through my cloud. Edit: The same application is on my Windows 7 Desktop and works fine. The minimize thing only happens on Windows 8.1
Tips: -There is actually 4 differents easy patterns to learn for the countess. Once you are in the tower, the entrance of each level indicates you which way to go for the next level which makes runs really fast without maphack or bot. -Once you are on Nilataks level, you can find which way to go by looking at the walls. The walls are covered with something and looks white. It's the way to go. -When you end act2, once you talk to Jerhyn, you can go into the palace and make a portal which makes you go faster to Meshif.

That beach on your desktop background is Wharariki Beach in New Zealand near Golden Bay. If you ever get a chance you shoud go because the beach is AMAZING. Its far away from anywhere and the whole place is just huge with a beach that is a few miles long and around a mile wide with massive sand dunes and caves to explore. I tripped acide with my girlfriend on that same beach and we had an amazing day there. Runnung down sand dunes, watching baby seals, exploring the caves and climbing to the top of some of the other islands.
Never knew the Shift+belt potion can instant heal mercenaries, damn wasted so many gold and portal scrolls for resurrection after these 18 years because i'm not fast enough to feed them. Thanks the tips.
Quest weapons are very useful for starters since some have low/no requirements. A trick I also like to use is to die with the staff and ammy of act 2 on when I'm getting rushed by someone with other people. That way, you can complete the quest because others will make the staff and if you leave your corpse on the ground it will remain in it only if you pick it once the act is fully over. One more thing that I have to mention is that you have to be very careful if you want to keep it on that character and not transfer it to another low lvl alt so he can skip the longest quests in the game for example.. because if you drop it on the ground, you won't be able to pick it back up... EVER ! xD Also, I find it insane that if you cube the a3 flail on a lvl 1 by giving him the organs and the trav flail + a cube, he will be able to use the flail at lvl 1 because the final version has no req ! ( You cannot pass down the cubed flail though, the lvl 1 won't be able to pick it unless maybe he's rushed to act 3, I'd have to test that) Anyway enjoy :) If ever you make a video on this, let people know my jsp account is Aw_some, I did spent a few hours testing this out and glad to share this great secret with ya'll ! I will never know enough about Diablo 2 as it’s my favorite RPG. I often use the number 1 to drink a Healing potion while running among monsters. I assign this number to the Mousewheel buttion on my Nyth otherwise I don’t know of a technical tip that isn’t listed here but I want to thank the god who bent over the devil. Thank you.

Hey everyone, i only played Diablo 3 when it came Out and quit when the Expansion came. I had a Lot of fun with it so i wanna try Out Diablo 2 now. I know nothing about it so should i guess the Expansion? I guess so and will still find Players to Play with?
I know I am late. But did you try d2 out? It’s quite interesting and vast given that it was released 2 decades ago. Try multiplayer first. There are still a few reliable servers with awesome players and groups. Hats off to these dedicated people. And once you complete the game and get hang of it, you can always try single player mode and try to get all the uniques and set items. I’ve been trying to get all those stuffs (feels like eternity has passed) with my Magic Find Sorceress. Still need more than a dozen of uniques to complete.
Regarding the SHIFT key usage... instead oh holding shift and right clicking the potion to heal your merc you can just hold shift and use the numbered hotkeys for your belt

That's exactly where I was looking today, for every detail I want to start playing diablo2 allover this week, but is gonna be a pain in the ass to finish all the reward quests 5 stats 10 all resistence 20 life potions get myself to hell, and have at least a level 80, to mention the items, and I'm going for a barbarian since it requires cheap gear for the start, hope I can find someone who can help me, I would appreciate and much obliged.

patch 1.14 made it impossible to play at higher resolutions because it completely repacked the game files causing it to became incompatible with the multires mod, which was the only way to play at higher resolutions. The creator of the mod stopped working on it years ago, and no-one has been bothered to update or make a new one for 1.14 so right now there's just no way :(

hey does anyone know if i were to join a full baal rune game, then teleport around chaos sanc and spawn every group of monsters while in players 8.. then return to the run, can i now mf chaos sanc on players 8 basically with only me there once the run is done? how does everyone else do mf runs in chaos on battlenet and not have to be in players 1...? just try to squeeze it into the length of a baal run?
I don't believe so. In hell difficulty, Elite body armors are fairly common. Each sells for 35,000 each. Your money builds up quite fast. I come across more Elite body armors that any single rune by a significant margin. Keep in mind it might be anywhere from 8-20 Armors to 2 runes while the runes might be El, Sol, etc. Getting the Ort or Ral is harder than getting the gold from selling items for 35,000 each. The formula for helms/weapons that might matter are the Repair & Recharge ones. (Teleport charged) 1 Ort Rune + 1 Chipped Gem (any kind) + Weapon = Fully Repaired and Recharged Weapon 1 Ral Rune + 1 Flawed Gem (any kind) + Armor = Fully Repaired and Recharged Armor *None of the 4 formulas work on Ethereal which is what you would dream of using them for.
Armors take up 6 inventory slots. If, like most veteran players, you run with a lot of charms, getting 500k means you're going to be going back and forth to town a LOT. That's kinda inconvenient and time consuming.
Nope, not new just little known. Played the game from launch to like 2003 nearly every day and distinctly remember that, and also that shift+click potion in your inventory will put it in your belt if there's room as well

Potions for the merc is a new trick to me. I did not about that one. I have wondered about setting up hot-keys. I play on "Normal" difficulty most of the time. Will setting up hot-keys be of any benefit at that level? I may have to create a transcript of this video and save it to an MS Word document for future reference. Edit: I read The Arreat Summit often, but I think I will begin "studying" it in the near future. Combine that site with the "Breakpoint" site, (of which I was unaware, so "Thank You" again), and I believe my game-play can increase a bit faster that it otherwise would on my own. The "Attack Speed Calculator" is another new-to-me item.
It'll pretty much always be beneficial. As long as you have the motorical finesse to play with hotkeys everything becomes way easier. I myself always use hotkeys right from the bat. One for my main ability and one for tome portal!

LaddRusso91 I haven't tried, but apparently when you kill andariel for the first time in any difficulty, you go to second act and then you don't talk to anyone and immediately end the game. And repeat
Your lvling guide needs to be corrected. From 21-23, Tomb runs don't do anything. Do cow runs. When you reach lvl 24, then do Ancients. You can do Baal runs until at least lvl 45. I've done it with 3 characters and they lvled very well. As for the rest your lvling guide, good luck getting to the Chaos Sanctuary by lvl 41 without a rush (FYI, not everyone wants to rush a lower lvl character after normal difficulty. As for lvling when reaching lvl 60.......Rite Of Passage in hell difficulty? No. I know for a fact very few people will do Rite Of Passage in hell difficulty because its a waste of time. Most characters in Act 5 are bots and they usually do both Chaos and Baal runs in the same game.

there's a faster way of giving potion to your merc and that is to shift then press the number corresponding on what number is your health pots in

I will never know enough about Diablo 2 as it’s my favorite RPG. I often use the number 1 to drink a Healing potion while running among monsters. I assign this number to the Mousewheel buttion on my Nyth otherwise I don’t know of a technical tip that isn’t listed here but I want to thank the god who bent over the devil. Thank you.

Hey everyone, i only played Diablo 3 when it came Out and quit when the Expansion came. I had a Lot of fun with it so i wanna try Out Diablo 2 now. I know nothing about it so should i guess the Expansion? I guess so and will still find Players to Play with?
The Lord of Destruction expansion is a must. There is a considerable amount of players, yes. You should definitely try Diablo 2, man.

I know I am late. But did you try d2 out? It’s quite interesting and vast given that it was released 2 decades ago. Try multiplayer first. There are still a few reliable servers with awesome players and groups. Hats off to these dedicated people. And once you complete the game and get hang of it, you can always try single player mode and try to get all the uniques and set items. I’ve been trying to get all those stuffs (feels like eternity has passed) with my Magic Find Sorceress. Still need more than a dozen of uniques to complete.

For mac users, click cmd+m to play in windowed mode.
Also the potion thing.. you can click shift+1,2,3 or 4 to make it even easier to heal merc.
Regarding the SHIFT key usage... instead oh holding shift and right clicking the potion to heal your merc you can just hold shift and use the numbered hotkeys for your belt

u can stuck potions too. poison and cold resist for long time. +30 sec every potion use. that way i kill andy and duriel in normal

shift life for mercenary is something that i learned by the "thanks" that they say...
If was not by that, i wouldnt know what happened when i was pressing shift by error and sending life to my mercenary instead of ME.
You can sell a tomb of ID or Portal to any vendor and buy it back with full stacks for a fraction of normal price.

That's exactly where I was looking today, for every detail I want to start playing diablo2 allover this week, but is gonna be a pain in the ass to finish all the reward quests 5 stats 10 all resistence 20 life potions get myself to hell, and have at least a level 80, to mention the items, and I'm going for a barbarian since it requires cheap gear for the start, hope I can find someone who can help me, I would appreciate and much obliged.

How to play Diablo II with 1920x1080 res?
patch 1.14 made it impossible to play at higher resolutions because it completely repacked the game files causing it to became incompatible with the multires mod, which was the only way to play at higher resolutions. The creator of the mod stopped working on it years ago, and no-one has been bothered to update or make a new one for 1.14 so right now there's just no way :(

hey does anyone know if i were to join a full baal rune game, then teleport around chaos sanc and spawn every group of monsters while in players 8.. then return to the run, can i now mf chaos sanc on players 8 basically with only me there once the run is done?

Ort is really common rune man. It's easier to get Ort than for example 500k.
I don't believe so. In hell difficulty, Elite body armors are fairly common. Each sells for 35,000 each. Your money builds up quite fast. I come across more Elite body armors that any single rune by a significant margin. Keep in mind it might be anywhere from 8-20 Armors to 2 runes while the runes might be El, Sol, etc. Getting the Ort or Ral is harder than getting the gold from selling items for 35,000 each.
The formula for helms/weapons that might matter are the Repair & Recharge ones. (Teleport charged)
1 Ort Rune + 1 Chipped Gem (any kind) + Weapon = Fully Repaired and Recharged Weapon
1 Ral Rune + 1 Flawed Gem (any kind) + Armor = Fully Repaired and Recharged Armor
*None of the 4 formulas work on Ethereal which is what you would dream of using them for.
Armors take up 6 inventory slots. If, like most veteran players, you run with a lot of charms, getting 500k means you're going to be going back and forth to town a LOT. That's kinda inconvenient and time consuming.
You don't have to click on the potion to heal your merc, just hold shift and then press the number the potion is in.

Nope, not new just little known. Played the game from launch to like 2003 nearly every day and distinctly remember that, and also that shift+click potion in your inventory will put it in your belt if there's room as well
in diablo 2 reserected i hope they have full screen for wide monitors. or a background so i dont click on windows options on the windows screen when teliporting

Potions for the merc is a new trick to me. I did not about that one. I have wondered about setting up hot-keys. I play on "Normal" difficulty most of the time. Will setting up hot-keys be of any benefit at that level?
I may have to create a transcript of this video and save it to an MS Word document for future reference.

I read The Arreat Summit often, but I think I will begin "studying" it in the near future. Combine that site with the "Breakpoint" site, (of which I was unaware, so "Thank You" again), and I believe my game-play can increase a bit faster that it otherwise would on my own. The "Attack Speed Calculator" is another new-to-me item.
It'll pretty much always be beneficial. As long as you have the motorical finesse to play with hotkeys everything becomes way easier. I myself always use hotkeys right from the bat. One for my main ability and one for tome portal!

I always end up with extra ral and ort since they're so common. They take up inventory space and gold doesn't, so sometimes you can opt for the runes.

I had this problem for quite some time now when I revived my D2E on my Windows 8.1 Laptop.
Whenever I play in Windowed mode and I click on any other window (Because I like to play multiple games at the same time) D2 force minimizes.
I gave up searching sometime ago, and upon seeing this I though I might ask the question.
Or does anybody else have this issue?
Note: I only used Win XP/7/8 & 8.1 for D2E

Your lvling guide needs to be corrected. From 21-23, Tomb runs don't do anything. Do cow runs. When you reach lvl 24, then do Ancients. You can do Baal runs until at least lvl 45. I've done it with 3 characters and they lvled very well. As for the rest your lvling guide, good luck getting to the Chaos Sanctuary by lvl 41 without a rush (FYI, not everyone wants to rush a lower lvl character after normal difficulty. As for lvling when reaching lvl 60.......Rite Of Passage in hell difficulty? No. I know for a fact very few people will do Rite Of Passage in hell difficulty because its a waste of time. Most characters in Act 5 are bots and they usually do both Chaos and Baal runs in the same game.
