Depending on what weapon you've been using it may not have beem pointless. Assassins can open locked chests without a key but it does require them to be wearing a katar.

The main reason they got rid of organs wasnt because it was gorey but because it was a disorganized mess. Your inventory and stash would be filled with a dozen different types of organs and multiples of certain organs for each monster type. It wasted alot of inventory and stash space and was extremely disorganized. David brevik stated this in multiple interviews.

If only they decided to make the stash a reasonable size instead of pruning content
that makes way more sense! thank you for clarifying. the explanation he gave felt a little strange since it's diablo, after all! why would they remove a mechanic for being "too gore-y"?
I can imagine. Carrying charms,potions and the cube already limits the whole inventory to carry atleast 10-15 weapons, items or armor.
Maybe it is the whole "system of inventory" that should be reworked for future ARPG games like Diablo, because as we can see it doesn't work well for even for newer games like Path of Exile or Diablo 3.

1) phase blades are not the only weapons that don't need repairing, there are also bows and crossbows
2) eth phase blades cannot drop, they can only be obtained from upgrading an eth dimentional blade

quite a few misses here ive seen, the bear druid escape death.... yeah the wolf still does this to this day.
In short: it isn't about easter eggs, hidden lore, secrets, or even the cain quest is the only quest you can fail to complete if you choose to leave him in his cage and go to act 2(he'll be saved by the rangers of the sightless eye and you'll have to pay him money to identified your gear). There are really some hidden things in the game that players never noticed and a lot are interesting that the developers went that far for this game.

It’s been a long time coming with this video. I never thought I would learn so many new things about Diablo 2 even to this day there is always something new to learn and discover that is why Diablo 2 is infinite. Thank you guys for the support these past 2 years this channel has changed my life in so many ways and I thank each and everyone of my awesome fans for supporting me.

this was an extremely good video, i didn't know many of the 40 things, your pacing was good and you hit 11 minutes without forcing it, best video i seen in a while.
#39 fun fact: the audio is from starcraft. You can hear the classic protoss line "For Adun"

Starblo sounds like it would have been awesome. It's too bad it fell through.
You should really play the game Freelancer ;) With graphics mod it even looks awesome. Good storywriting, awesome soundtrack, reputation system for all the factions, shoot down pirates or be pirate, trader, but most important of all: not sure why (I guess soundtrack), but the immersion in this game is great, you´ll really feel flying through and discovering space.

I'll tell you what, closing my eyes and listening to that music transported right back to the mid 90's. Of course everyone in my family is dead now so it's bittersweet. I really miss those days. That's life I guess.

Like another user said, Rare Ethereal Phase Blades cannot drop. You can however up an eth crystal sword/dimensional blade into a phaseblade.
5:55 wait what? that animation is used in D2 for the energy shield, if you watch when your attacked you can see the slit of lightning go from the orb to your feet, its a lot more noticable if you step into fire where it keeps hitting you per sec continuously - 9:25 the aura anims was reused eventually as the golden glow effect on your player when using a full set thats character class specific like Tal set, IK set etc. although im sure most ppl know that

I can also remember a old glitch can't remember when either right after release or right at end of beta. We're if you went into where everyone was then Portaled to town and stayed by the waypoint you'd get gold and exp from town.
Even though I played this game for years and years. Its like a true 40 things I didn't know about the game. Really good video! Didn't know about everything but the organs.

I think “Æstrel” would make an euphonious title for a Diablo-inspired space game.
I just ordered a laptop only to play this game again. Kinda was hard to find one with a CD-Rom drive though
You could've bought whichever laptop you wanted and just get an external drive. Also, you can assign your key to your Blizzard account and download a version of the game that doesn't require a disc.

It doesn't say that there are hidden or unknown runewords in the game. All it says it that you have to accept the loss of runes when experimenting with runewords unknown to the specific player.

The Greater Mummy sounds were present in the Diablo 2 vanilla but got removed when the Lord of Destruction came out.
Liked before I even started watching. This is the kind of stuff I want to see from these sort of channels. Shedding some light on all the easter eggs and secret stuff in Diablo 2. Even tho most of us know a lot of these already, there are always a few things we missed or forgot. Good stuff man :)
By the way, do you happen to have any idea how they made the audio files for all the spells? I mean the sound effects you hear when you put on an aura and so on. Or perhaps you could ask David Brevik if you ever get the chance? I produce music for a living, but I never got into sound design for games etc. so I would love to learn about how they did it, what type of synthesizers, effects, and samples that were used.

the 1 thing i would like to see thats missing is the stats / skills of the Mercenaries, back in the day there was general lvl areas that your merc would have a certain preset effect on their Aura or Ice arrow / Fire arrow skill depending on the merc, now in D2 lod after you can put gear on your merc and keep the same one through the whole game they now seem to have dynamic lvling skills, so whatever lvl you buy a merc at in D2 lod they always have the same lvl 1 aura effect and as you lvl them their skill lvls up, so you always wanna get a merc at lvl 60 at least so you have an easy solid 20 lvls to increase for your merc so their skill / aura will have max affect, if you buy a lvl 90 merc his stats will be correct but his aura or the effect of the elemental dmg in their Arrow skill will be lvl 1 in the same way the Paladin char or Zon char has lvl 1 - 20 of that skill
Greater mummies - in version 1.00 of Diablo II (which I played out of curiosity once) you can hear these unused creepy voices. They occur when the Mummy raises an undead.

Pretty sure everyone noticed they could open locked chests without keys on assassins, Also anyone that played shapeshifting druid (And sorc btw...) should know that they drop to 1 hp and cant die when shapeshifted.
The skill in 4:39 looks a bit like the "push away" effect of Sanctuary aura

Some facts for next video of that kind: `-N% to all resistances` on Necromancer's "Lower Resist" does not lover Magic Resistance.
The "Bone Spear" damage is said to drop to half after penetrating an enemy.
One addendum.. rare ethereal phase blades cannot drop. However, rare ethereal crystal swords and dimensional blades can be upgraded to phase blades, where they retain their ethereal status while being indestructible. Cool video!

Yo i got a video idea for you... maybe you know of one or already made one but how about the 'eras of battle.net'. Like back when sojs were rare. Then they were duped and became currency. Then the era of 290s. Then uber d and the anni. Maybe i dont have my timeline right but then there was the skill revamp and HRs coming in and finally the full uber stuff. Just a thought! I would love to revisit those old times! You could also touch on the old build metas when stuff like buriza and pierce would hit targets multiple times, or just pre enigma pvp.
How do you run the game in such a high resolution? I'm stuck at default with no obvious way to change it!

1:18 -- ok, you mention this, but don't elaborate further. WHERE is this purple health globe present? HOW can it be achieved? etc.
FYI, those Phase blade that are etheral will never drop eth. It's a dimension blade or Crystal sword that dropped with those stats and then were upgraded to phase blade gaining that indestructible mod from the base !

i remember i had a stupidly op weapon without a name, there was just code instead, so i guess it was a bug weapon but still had loads of fun with it :P well we did mess around alot back then like hunting highlvls with a group of lvl9 assas packed with bug runes on xp-off, stuff like that ;)
About the black tower key and Khalims will. I've always wondered why they didn't make quest item screens so you didn't have to carry around the quest items? It's annoying, cause specially the will takes up 6 squares of inventory.

I just realized today that sometimes Fallen shout Rakanishu, the Lord of the Fallen and Guardian of Tristram
And the Shamans, who rise the little bastards, occasionally will shout "Bishibosh!" who is their boss.
Phase.blades cannot.drop etheral, to acquire one you have to find an eth Crystal sword or dimensional Blade (rare) and Upgrade them to Phase Blade via the horadric Cube.
Body parts were to gruesome? Years later and we look at Zelda BOTW and you collect body parts off enemies...
but wait tou still get the jaw bone fang spleen quill and tail i have seen them in game
